Prima hair and day spa is wonderful. The issue is with the businesses / stylists that rent the booths. That said i find it odd that the salon will take credit for 5 star reviews for the independent contractors but have quite the attitude when they get 1 star reviews. If they aren't your employees you need to respond to each one and say that while you're glad they had a good experience, so and so doesn't work for the salon, they rent the table and are their own entity. Prime hair and day spa upholds their Groupons while the contractors don't. Again. Prima hair and day spa is lovely. The contractors... not so much. Sucks that such a lovely establishment would keep these contractors when it could cost them new clients based on reviews. The way Prima responds is also not respectful and quick to "fight back". That's why a 4 star, their replies should be better because everything reflects back on you as a business. read more

Orhan and Rosa operate here under the name Maxime hair salon- but they are hair stylists at this location. They sell Groupons but refuse to accept them. I purchased one. Immediately called and they said they only take first time customers though the fine print says you can purchase 1 every 365 days, so once a year. Because of their refusal to accept the Groupon, and the dishonest language included in their rules I was scammed out of $110 I can't get refunded from Groupon. I tried repeatedly. And the issue is with Orhan and Rosa- who is the one who refused the Groupon over the phone. I'm reporting this business to the BBB and contacting the AG because I doubt I'm the only one scammed by this business. read more

I went to see orhan because my old stylist recommended him (I believe they're friends or whatever) but worst service ever. I have never in my life gotten my hair pulled so much in a hair wash. At one point he even got my earring, he was washing it like he didn't wanna do it or was just trying to get me out asap. On top of that I went for a balayage (even showed him a picture) and he did highlights saying I didn't show him any pictures in the beginning. He tried fixing it but still looked like crap. I walked out because they pretend like they don't understand or it's the customers fault. He also charged me separate for the toner??? I thought this is all included in the service when they give you a price. I understand charging extra for haircut. On top of everything I never said yes to styling, my dumb butt thought he was doing it as a gesture for pulling my hair so much and messing up the service. Noooo, he charged another $60 for styling, ridiculous. He kept saying the service was an $800 and that he's 40 yrs into the industry. Whatever service I got is probably worth $200 and that is only for his time not because I was happy with the work done. Lastly he still wanted a tip after ripping me off with everything. He didn't even show me the machine where I tapped my card until I asked for it to make sure I put "no tip". If you go here make sure you try someone else. read more

I am not the biggest fan of getting haircuts. As a matter of fact I dread them and avoid them because I rarely walk out feeling happy- either bc of the cost, too much hair cut off, not enough cut off or some other reason. This was the first time I walked out feeling happy and confident with how my hair looked! Oneida- my hairstylist- was absolutely amazing! She was respectful for what I wanted to do with my hair and gave great feedback. She actually discouraged me from cutting off 3 inches but gave me the rationale behind why- my balayage (pre done before this haircut appt) would have been compromised. She was not pushy on purchasing products or adding on additional charges- simply honest, creative and passionate! The staff was very friendly and professional. What I also absolutely loved about this salon is the collaborative space this place was. One of the hair stylist noticed something with his hair and made it a teaching moment and let the other hair stylists practice on him as he continued giving instruction. Loved it! It's not a cut throat, I must succeed over you type of environment. The salon is encouraging their staff members to grow and continue gaining their confidence in tackling different hair related challenges. Also, ladies with long hair, the BS rule of charging extra for longer hair which is rarely defined ahead of time- Not a case to worry about here. Prima is super transparent about that. WARNING, Please read this review. Recently I experienced the worst costumer service in my whole life in this salon. I have healthy hair and I always treat Keratin my hair once a year from Groupon. And, I never saw a frustrating, rude, and unprofessional behavior in any other salons like here. I bought the Keratin treatment from the Groupon for this salon and I drove 40 miles to go there with an appointment with Matt (Matt is his nickname and he is the only guy who works there), he suggested me to pay more to do Brazilian Keratin, I told him based on Keratin experience on my hair, I know that the regular Keratin stays longer and nicer on my hair to compare to the Brazilian. Without saying anything he left me in-front of the mirror and started working on another customer's hair. He was upset like a kid and I surprised, but didn't tell him why he left me as a customer, so, I went to him and told him "Ok, if you are comfortable with doing Brazilian Keratin on my hair lets do it and I will pay more". He asked me to go to the corner with him and he told me that "I don't like to touch your hair". Then when I wanted to talk to his manager, he refused and the front desk told me he doesn't have any manager !! But at least the front desk said so sorry nicely for what he did to me and other Groupon customers (I still don't understand if he doesn't want Groupon customers why he send the ad to the Groupon with his contact info) Other employees were quiet and nice but all of the sudden one of the ladies who worked there (she works in the fist seat) jumped in and she introduced herself as the owner (but she refused to tell her name when I asked her name) and she talked to me very laud and said "Matt is not comfortable to do your hair and he has another customer at 11:30, and you need to leave my salon immediately". When I wanted to show Matt's text to her on my phone that he gave me the appointment at 11:30 as well and I already paid, she didn't say sorry for the conflict and she shout on me (based on another customer review I realized Matt did the same before), also she mentioned "if you don't leave the police will make you to leave, this is my place and I don't want you to be here .... Matt doesn't want to do your hair". I took a video of all her. I shocked and left the salon and I am so sorry for whoever is in charge to let Matt and that lady to talk to the clients like this. Matt sent his friend/coworker to shout for him to the customer, so, he could easily ask his friends to write positive reviews for him. So, please trust my review and other one star reviews on Google, yelp, and Groupon (I attached 3 sample reviews from other real customers here). Matt did not raise his voice like that lady, but still his behavioral was not acceptable. When I was leaving the salon and even when I was in the spa area next to their hair salon, other spa's costumes and I could hear her shouting, she wanted to humiliate me for no reason. She sent her front desk to kick me out of the Spa while I was sitting there and she pushed my shoulders which I was not comfortable with her physical contact. My understanding was that they gave appointment to 2 customers at the same time and instead of apologizing and telling the truth, they decided to get rid of their Groupon's customer in the rudest way. I got a groupon for this place, scheduled an appointment that was for 12.15. So I got there at 12.14 and I was told to wait after a few people talked to the receptionist. It was kind of busy I was called by the hairdresser at 12.38, and I guess she was busy with another client when I came so she said I came earlier. But that day o called and receptionist told me that my time was 12.15. But that is ok. My appointment was with Monica. And she was very easy-going and sweet person! She gave me advice on my hair and was very talkative in a good way. I would definitely go back to Monica, but I hope next time I will not have to wait. This salon was the bomb!!!! I have been to high end, low end, medium end salons and I have never left any of those places feeling like I was the total AWSOMESAUCE!!!!!! This place is a hidden gem in McLean. I grew up there and I never knew this place existed. It was like the friggin holy grail of hair and days spas was in my back yard for the last 40 years and I was just NOW discovering it. Ok why is so this place so awesome!!! I was preparing myself for the usual, "ok another Groupon cheapskate eye roll" Nope she was happy to see me, gave me a tour of the salon, a glass of water. (coffee, tea was also offered but i was dehydrated) I had three appointments, with three different professionals and they had them timed perfectly, I went from one professional to the other without any waiting. That in itself was a gem. All the technicians had a excellent chemistry with each other and spoke highly of each other, no one talking smack or gossiping, all positive, optimistic talk. I loved my hair cut, it was the best haircut I have had in years, We had a consultation, I spoke she listened, I got exactly what i wanted and she even knew how to style my hair!, Now that is a first. I have super fine hair, but a lot of it, Usually they give up and sit there with limp wrists fluffing it wondering how they are going to get me out of their chair. My eyebrow wax was quick, painless and beautiful! My pedicure was relaxing and private. It was nice to have an engaging person to speak to. Rather than no conversation because their English is a stinker! They have shampoo people who take their time and care and massage your scalp, they are not rushing to the next person. This place was really clean all the technicians were nice, uplifting, full of compliments, they made you feel like family and were all smiling and having fun with their jobs. The only possible pitfall I could see for a person, is their layout is kinda funky because they are in an office building and it looks like it could get a little cramped, However, I don't care about that. I went for a Brazilian Wax. I was charged for a Brazilian wax but received a regular bikini wax. I was told my hair was too long to wax and that I should've trimmed before I arrived to my appointment. The room was cold, bright lights and un-inviting. As the aesthetician ripped away, she did not ask if I was okay or placed her hand along the area she waxed to keep the pain from traveling along the nerve. This is my first and last visit. I found this salon on Groupon bc they were having a deal. I met Oneida and she took really good care of me. When I went to this salon, I had rose gold hair (faded out) and she redid my whole head and added highlights. After a few weeks, I got a keratin treatment. Then after a month, I went to get a root touch up, but I ended up going a little lighter and touched up on my highlights to go blonder. I've only seen her 3x and she always does an amazing job! This is this worst hair cut I have ever gotten. I waited three years to grow out my hair so I could donate it and I ask for only 8 inches and she put the hair ties where she wanted and cut. I couldn't see the back until she held up my cut ponytail and it was 18 INCHES!! My mother and I both measured it when I got home and it came up to 20 because my hair is a bit curly. the last time I got a haircut I was really upset because the guy gave me layers when I never asked for them (this was at a different place), so when we got there we made sure to tell her 100 times exactly what I wanted. I'm happy I was able to donate my hair but this is WAYYY shorter than I wanted/expected, even the lady who originally seated me said that she had cut my hair shorter than it should have been. And on top of that since I left the salon, two people have already told me the haircut is uneven (not including my family). The only reason I'd even give one star is because most of the staff were friendly. Update: I went to a different salon today to straighten my hair and the guys takes one look at my hair and says, "WHO THE HELL CUT YOUR HAIR! This is awful, I can't believe that!" The salon is beautiful and most the staff were lovely and funny to be around. That's where it ends though, my hairdresser didn't introduce herself and didn't talk the entire time the cut was taking place. I booked in there via a groupon, I was looking to get bangs and a one length cut just to remove any split ends. The bangs look great and I was and am still super happy with them but that's it though, she absolutely butchered my hair to the point where I had to book in a hair appointment somewhere else and have over an inch off my hair to have all the hair level again, unfortunately there're still pieces shorter again that are still noticeable. When I left my hair was slightly curled under from being blow dried relatively straight, it wasn't till I got home that I realised how uneven the cut was and how so many pieces of hair were at drastically different lengths. I'm really sad because I was so ready to have finally found a good solid salon to stick with but I don't want to go back on the off chance I get that hairdresser again. read more

Go see Farah! As a dude, I've never had a facial but my wife kept telling me that I needed to go see Farah. Best decision I've ever made - I'm an instant regular. She did a micro dermabrasion which is basically a diamond tipped vacuum that she uses on your skin - felt like I had a new face afterwards. Also - being my first time, she could tell I was a little nervous and talked me through the entire process and explained everything before she did it so I could actually relax. Had an appointment with Gina Ferrell, Owner, and asked for an Ombre color style. She did a magnificent job but after having a solid color for years, it was a shock to my system so to speak! I called same day and let her know. I was very nervous thinking tge stylist wpuld be irritated after spending hours on me but she stayed late just for me and was SO compassionate, re-did my whole hair and free of charge! This salon (and Dila and Gina in particular) is great. Dila has done my hair for years and always does a terrific job. My hair is very fine and once I'd told Dila I disliked hair spray (I call it glue), she immediately stopped using it. I don't go as often to her as I would like (time is scarce) -- but she always remembers that I don't like glue. She also did a short cut on my daughter's hair that so beautifully framed her face it made her look stunning. The front desk at Prima is very knowledgeable and friendly -- and Gina is incredibly gracious. I love the feel of this salon and the care they give you. Someone else posted here that they were charged $1000 for a color and cut -- and while Prima can be pricey, I cannot believe those numbers. I've never come close to that cost -- so if you're worried, ask the front desk before you book your appointment. I have been getting my hair done at Prima since 1998. Although it is pricey, you always get what you pay for. I always get a great cut or treatment, whether its color, keratin, etc. They have robes available for you to change into so your clothing does not get wet or ruined by chemicals. They are always kind about asking you if you would like something to drink and making sure you are comfortable. The current staff is extremely friendly and on top of their game. read more

The staff didn't treat me like a "Groupon" customer, and I have continued to use their services for waxing (she was great!) and occasional facials. They aren't cheap, but they are quality and it shows. I have been numerous times, and didn't notice any of the sanitation issues that the other reviewer mentions. read more

She is fantastic, has great ideas, honest and tells it to you as is. She is patient and gets to understand exactly what you need and want. She will express herself, after all she is Italian. They do not sanitize their brushes. My hairdresser was going to use a brush on me that was full of another person's hair. None of her other brushes were clean and there was no barbicide or other sanitizing solution to be found at her station. I had to make her clean out the brush, and water alone will not kill everything. There is no reason to charge 60 dollars and not follow basic sanitizing rules. read more

I went to Prima for the first time today and used the Groupon for the Partial Foil Highlights. First of all, the receptionists are very kind and knowledgeable, and they represent the rest of the salon very well. I came in for my appointment with Gina and I had photos that (little did I know) were NOT of hair with partial highlights. Gina took the time to explain to me why they weren't, and also what we could do with partial highlights to get the same affect so that my Groupon was still able to be used. Not once did Gina or anyone else in the salon make me feel like a "Groupon customer".
