As a patient of Dr. Immoos for many years, have great confidence. However, her support staff is rude and untruthful. I ordered a pair of simple black framed glasses and they arrived with gold marbeling. They insisted that I got what I ordered. They would not let me speak to the doctor nor refund my $250 co-payment. To make me go away, I was provided a $129 pair of wire frame glasses and they kept my co-pay plus the insurance contribution. Was so excited to book our entire family here but everything changed once I was transferred to a second staff member. They pulled all of our insurance information (dual) gave them all my information because I was told they can see us in two weeks. Incompetent, lazy staff. Not sure what happened. They used to be great. They filed with Medicare instead of my vision insurance. They didn't want to wait on the phone to verify my vision insurance - they actually told me that! I told them I would but the doc was ready to see me so I waited until after seeing him to call my vision insurance. When I got some one on the line, I handed my phone to the front office girl. Afterward, they didn't have time to do the other part of my exam. They kept the charge to medicare and wouldn't change it. After months of fighting it. I got great treatment from the doctors, but the customer service was so bad on 2 occasions that I won't return. I have been using Primary Eyecare for a few years, and I had no problems until about a year ago or so, when I tried to reorder contact lenses. I had enough to last me two weeks, and I thought that would be plenty of time to reorder. I didn't get my contacts for a month. Their computer system was down, which I was very sympathetic about. They told me repeatedly that it would be back up "tomorrow" and they would call me immediately, taking my information over and over again. They never called. I think I called them six to eight times. They never even called once my order finally arrived. Shockingly, they also never offered me any sample lenses, even though I know they have them at the practice and they were aware I was out. I remained polite through all this, and when I went to pick up my lenses at last, I asked to speak to someone about it. I relayed my story, and I was given 10 percent off, which I appreciated. However, it was 10 percent off an order they had accidentally doubled. I had tried to order two boxes of contacts, and they took that to mean two boxes for each eye (my eyes are the same prescription). I decided to take them all so that I wouldn't have to go through all this again for a long time. After the discount, I paid well over $400. Recently, I have been wanting to buy a low-cost pair of backup eyeglasses. I own professionally made glasses (from before I started going to Primary), and I wear contacts often, but I have several friends who have had good luck with Warby Parker and Firmoo, and I thought I'd give it a try for some cute, cheap glasses. I called Primary to get my prescription info and pupillary distance, which you need to order glasses online. The person on the phone told me she didn't have my pupillary distance because I hadn't gotten glasses there before. Understandable. I asked if they could measure it for me quickly, which I didn't think would be an issue as I spend hundreds of dollars there on contacts and get regular checkups. But no, I was firmly told they do not recommend people order glasses online because they are much lower quality and could cause headaches and so on. I told her I understood but I thought it was OK for people who accept the risks to purchase glasses online. "That's your prerogative," she said, before reiterating she could not help me and hanging up. I work in medical marketing and am very familiar with the issues that can arise from ill-fitting or poorly made glasses. I also am very careful about my eye health. That being said, I have no problem spending, say, $36 on Firmoo for a pair of glasses that I would use every so often with full awareness that they may not fit or function as well as a $300 pair from Primary. That is hardly an unpopular opinion these days (Google "online glasses reviews" to confirm), and the staff at any optical shop should know and accept that. My request seemed to have been met with swift defensiveness, which I imagine has to do with the business loss Primary and other brick-and-mortar optical shops are struggling against with online competitors doing so well. However, they would do better to accept the change and respect their customers, especially those who still spend a lot of money there and know what they are talking about. The doctor whom I saw was Dr. Tackett. She was always helpful, funny and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my appointments with her and honestly feel bad that I won't continue to patronize her. The people in the front office and opticians were just so inconsiderate, condescending and rude that I'm moving on. read more

I don't have enough positive adjectives to adequately review the Primary Eyecare Center on Santa Rosa Street in SLO. I will, however, make a solid attempt at covering all of the reasons why they're exemplary. 1. Customer Service I mean, really, truly, the art of true customer service IS NOT DEAD, as evidenced by my first phone call to Primary Eyecare Center to set up an appointment. To be fair, this was a place that WAS recommended to me by a co-worker, but I still can't say enough about their ability their warmth, professionalism, responsiveness to questions and issues (and yes, I DID have an issue, but thanks to the knowledge and care of the staff, it was not only resolved, but made even better and in a timely manner, no less!). 2. Technology They offer that super-cool option for retinal imaging that not only means you can avoid the trauma of dilation, but you'll also get to see an amazing photo of your retina that basically looks like a crazy sunset-hued hurricane in a magical galaxy far, far away. 3. Product Selection Sure, their product selection isn't the most expansive ever, but what they **MAY** lack (as perceived by some) in QUANTITY, they certainly make up for in quality and variety. They have a really great mix of frame shapes and styles, and carry quality brands for pretty much any style palette. 4. Expertise From the office/admin staff to the Optometrist, I felt confident that knowledge and expertise was their primary goal, and it was clear that they put lots of care and effort into training their staff to be knowledgeable experts in their scope of work. I have a difficult face to fit frames to, but her staff had no problem finding multiple frame choices that would work for me. More importantly, service after the sale was excellent... I had an incident where my glasses were left inside a hot car in Paso Robles, causing the anti-reflective coating to melt and distort my vision... but the warranty on the optics covered replacement! My 40 something eyes finally needed glasses. I was thinking drugstore, but I'm so glad I went to see Dr. Immoos. My prescription was quite different for each of my eyes. I used to be a big fan of Primary Eyecare. I got excellent glasses and service from them. The last time I went there, however, was a nightmare. They couldn't get my prescription sunglasses right. They tried three pairs; the first was painful to wear and the tint was way too light. The second would fall right off my head if I nodded. The third pair's lenses are off so my vision through one eye is always a little out of focus. And I paid over $700. Oh, and the attitude they had that my complaints were frivolous. Now I'm facing the prospect of starting over and eating the cost just to get some sunglasses that aren't massively defective. Incompetent. Avoid. read more

I walked in and in a friendly manner said hello. I was "greeted" by a woman who frowned and said "can I help you?" It was as if I had, unannounced, walked in to her living room! I stated that I was referred by the Varilux website (a lens company). I told her that I was shopping for new frames and progressive lens. She again just frowned and rudely lectured me that Varilux is there only progressive lens provider. Great that's why I came here, I thought, no need to lecture. "Is it ok for me to look at some frames in your lobby?" I did not ask for assistance, just merely "permission" to look at their stock. "I guess," she responded, "but we will have to kick you out if a patient wants to look at some frames!" At that point my wife and I said thank you and left. I would be remiss if I did not mention that their office and lobby are on the small size but that is not an excuse to be rude and unfriendly. It doesn't cost anything to smile and show some courtesy! They are obviously so busy that they don't need $400+ worth of business from me. Don't waste your time!!! Rude and snobby staff. I hope the doctors know that a staff member is turning away business! This is a good dilations center; very thorough exams and comfortable environment. They offer alternative equipment to eye dilations. Sometimes their office staff needs a little work with call backs and information.
