I did want something fresh and updated since the fence it was replacing had been about as plain as fence could be. The owner of the company is the one that came to design and quote. He was friendly and creative. We designed a horizontal fence with a multi height design since it goes uphill. The price quote was very reasonable so I signed up and a couple of weeks later I had a beautiful fence in place. They built it in about 4 hours. I will admit I was a bit worried as my tulips were sprouting right in front of where the fence goes. They were very careful and the tulips survived!

They replace both my neighbor's gates as well (one wood and one chain link) as they were attached to the original fences being replaced. My neighbors were happy. I have since had storm damage to one side of the fence. They were out in one day after looking at the fence to repair. It is amazing how the fence looks. It looks like there was never any damage. We recently acquired a puppy, and this was the main reason for needing to finish our fence. It was not a simple job though. Our yard service needs a 5-foot opening to get their equipment to the back yard. So we needed a gate. To make matters more interesting, it's on a pretty steep slope. I had a few companies providing bids. Most of them were way too complex and expensive. Tom came up with a fix that looks nice, didn't kill my pocket book and is extremely effective. He measured the slope of the area, and had a custom gate fabricated to accommodate. Once the gate was built, they came out and installed it. It looks great (see pics), works perfectly - and they did a great job cleaning up the job site! I have been so impressed with this company. If you go to their website, you'll see that HD Fence specializes in large projects (many of them are commercial). They can really do just about anything related to fences. The benefit to be had from this is that they do everything on a professional level. All communication was timely and clear. I believe they treated my small project with the same care and attention that they give to their top clients. Here is the icing on this cake... Before they came to install the gate, I mentioned to Tom that there is an area on the other side of the yard where the top pole doesn't quite reach its connecting hardware. So this 40-foot pole has just been dangling for years. He came up with a solution in about 10 seconds, and said he'd take a look when they come to do the gate. So at no extra charge, he fixed that other problem. That is great service! I would highly-recommend Tom and HD Fence to anyone. They are a top-notch company with phenomenal service, and they do fantastic work! I am very pleased, and so is Rosie (the pup).

That said, if I had seen a review like this I certainly would have made a different choice. I contracted in January with Burge to install a new fence and paid them half the price at that time. The installation was scheduled to start the first week in April. They contacted me in late March to tell me that the materials were on the way and they would be starting on time. I arrange my schedule accordingly as I thought it would be good for me to be there when they did the install. When it came time to start they told me that the materials were in town but they could not get to the truck to have them unloaded which delayed the start by a few days. After a few days they notified me that the installation will once again be delayed because they forgot to mark the property for utilities. When they finally started the installation there were at least five times when the crew said they would be there and did not show up at all. This included leaving my old fence piled up in my yard for several days. This was without any communication whatsoever. The job was further delayed by incorrect measurements for the gates that were to be installed and when they did deliver the gates they didn't work. During this entire process I tried to talk to the owner of the company to discuss the issues, but he continually ignored my messages. The final product is fine, not great. No fence is going to be perfect. The end product would have been acceptable but for the awful customer service. The communication was terrible and there were numerous days well I was wondering whether they would show up or not. I kept him updated every step with my frustration and gave them a chance to make it right when it came to the final invoice. They offered a very low and unacceptable accommodation. I told him it was unacceptable and that I would pay the full invoice and proceed as an unhappy customer. I am sure there are other fence companies who can install a similar quality fence with much better customer service. I have texts, emails and photos to support all of this. Again, I am sorry to have to leave this review. If anyone wants more details(yes there is more) please message me.

I was a little nervous given the recent reviews of Burge but they had the product I was needing, they had the best timeline by far (we were desperate to get it up!), and price was still competitive. Chris was great to work with. We had several bumps with our HOA but Chris was patient and worked through it with us. Really nice guy and finished product looks great. Give him a try!
