The meat and deli sections of the store seem to have the most problems with mispricing. This morning we bought two different cheeses that were advertised as being on sale but weren't on sale in their system after scanning the items at the register. The store employee manning the self service checkout machine seemed annoyed at having to correct the prices of the items and he had difficulty making the corrections at the register. Service in this store is lacking. There usually isn't an open check stand with a checker in the mornings. You'll have to use the self checkout registers which are tightly crammed together which makes it difficult to check out if you have a shopping cart and there are other shoppers at the other registers. The self checkout area is poorly designed! This Bel Air seems to restock the shelves in the mornings instead of at night when the store is closed. If you shop in the mornings you'll have to dodge food pallets and stocking staff while shopping. The store is fairly clean inside but the parking lot is filthy littered with garbage and debris. A nightly parking lot sweep might help?

But I still continue our loyal shopping endeavors, now on my own. I find myself more dependent on this local Grocery Outlet even more than ever! They carry so many items that vary from day to day. This is not a place that I can count on carrying my favorite products to return to when I run out. Often times I buy something I really like, and then it is no longer in stock. As their interior banner says: "stock up now, because once it's gone, it's gone!" However, on the bright side, I can almost always depend on certain staples that they make a point of being consistently available. Such as fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, snacks, baked goods, drinks, and even wine. Including self care products, supplements, cleaning supplies, household & gardening stuff, pet products, and even toys. I also find lots of frozen, canned, and prepackaged foods that are easy for me to heat and eat. I lack the enthusiasm or the energy to cook for myself. After all, my late fiancée loved to cook and was good at it. I guess I took advantage of that... But I still enjoy wandering up and down the aisles, usually finding new food items that look appetizing enough to try. It's not that often where I have been disappointed in making a purchase. Grocery Outlet has an app that you can download on your cell phone and once you register, they will (if you choose), email you their specials and daily bargains. During check out, enter your phone number at the register, and they keep track of what you have saved after your shopping experience. They even enter you into their "Free Grocery Shopping for Life" drawings. I like to believe that I have saved money here compared to shopping at other grocery stores, which is often the case! I'm not saying that everything in stock is that cheap though! Just like browsing a flea market, you'll never know what goodies you may discover! I also appreciate that this Grocery Outlet is conveniently located near my home, they are open at 7:00 am daily, (so I can avoid the crowds), and they are also open 7 days a week until 9:00 pm!! I had almost run out of shower soap and did not want to wait one or two days for an Amazon delivery. I was also looking for a better option than the liquid soap I normally use, something more natural and free of unnecessary chemicals. I first went to Target on Fulton Avenue and spent about 15 to 20 minutes looking, but I could not find what I wanted. Then I remembered that I had purchased an oatmeal soap at Trader Joe's before, so I drove a few more minutes to your store. I had just come from the gym, so honestly, I was stinky and in desperate need of taking a shower with a good soap. The bar of soap was the only item I grabbed. When I came to the cashier, I realized that I had forgotten my wallet. I tried to use the electronic payment app on my phone, but my card was locked. I had locked it for security reasons, and the app had changed the way to reopen it. I struggled with it for a few seconds. Without a second thought, K. Ervita pulled out her phone and paid for my soap. I told her, "Oh, please, you don't have to," but she said it was okay. I was embarrassed and grateful at the same time. I was so surprised that I even forgot to ask her name, but thankfully, I found it on the receipt. We are all going through different struggles. She did not know my situation. I could have been going through a truly difficult time and not had enough money to pay for that soap. Still, this kind lady simply saw someone who needed help and paid for it. I could return to the store and give her the $5.00 she paid for me, but I feel that might defeat the purpose of her random act of kindness. Instead, I plan to intentionally look for someone else I can bless and continue what she started. I also want to thank you for helping create the kind of work family where an employee would do something like this. Her act made my day and convinced me to become a more loyal Trader Joe's customer. No amount of marketing or advertising can accomplish what one sincere act of kindness can do. When a company encourages employees to treat customers with empathy and care, people remember it.
