We've shopped at this Bel Air a few times in the mornings and have had problems with items that are advertised to be on sale but aren't when scanned at the register. The meat and deli sections of the store seem to have the most problems with mispricing. This morning we bought two different cheeses that were advertised as being on sale but weren't on sale in their system after scanning the items at the register. The store employee manning the self service checkout machine seemed annoyed at having to correct the prices of the items and he had difficulty making the corrections at the register. Service in this store is lacking. There usually isn't an open check stand with a checker in the mornings. You'll have to use the self checkout registers which are tightly crammed together which makes it difficult to check out if you have a shopping cart and there are other shoppers at the other registers. The self checkout area is poorly designed! This Bel Air seems to restock the shelves in the mornings instead of at night when the store is closed. If you shop in the mornings you'll have to dodge food pallets and stocking staff while shopping. The store is fairly clean inside but the parking lot is filthy littered with garbage and debris. A nightly parking lot sweep might help? read more

I have been shopping here for quick items for 15 years because they are expensive. The latest thing I did not realize is that almost everything is a member price. What annoyed me is that the cashier did not mention that it would have been a savings of about $3.50. I only bought two things. Why does everyone need your info to just shop?. The store is clean. I shop at the Woodland store Bel Air. On Friday I went at 4:00 and there were hundreds of high school kids flooding into the store. I could barely get out of the parking lot to leave. There was only ONE checker and the rest of self checkout. I called the store to complain about the kids who I think shop lift and get away with it because the prices keep going up. The Manager told me to call the high school and talk to the principal. What an incompetent man running the store! thats his job to provide security for the store and have more staff to keep an eye on the kids who are shoplifting like crazy. Was turned away with 10 minutes to close when literally going in just to get a quart of oil and had explained this to the mid 20's Hispanic male with long unkempt hair who rushed to the door to rudely say "nope, closed" and proceeded to say "doesn't matter, closed" and shoved his hand in my face as he used his body to block the door. Countless times I've seen many walk in with less than 5 minutes to closing and not be turned away with other employees so I think he was just having a hissy fit and wanted to go home as it seemed the actual cashier was shocked at how I was turned away, a cashier that countless times has served me with a smile as I frequent this location at least 4 times a week. Unfortunately, the service here has gone completely downhill. Been shopping at this location since I was in high school. My family and I own homes in the area and the grocery store is very close. However, every time I leave, I am upset with the service I've received and how I've been treated by the associates. Some of the older employees are great and have been there for a long time but the new employees suck. read more

The cake we ordered for a special 30th birthday party was not worth the money. The top border of the cake was on the box and not on the cake. The Chinese food here is on point. Priced very reasonable with large portion sizes. Their broccoli beef is done right. I prefer this over other American Chinese restaurants nearby. Enough servings to last two meals with the three entre plate. read more

I've lived in Sacramento for about 20 years I never knew there was a Bel Air on Fruitridge. Came in for only a couple of items and not only was I followed around the store by a gentlemen who worked there until I headed towards check out, the cashier made absolutely no attempt to greet me back because I greeted her first but she was too busy keeping up her own conversation! Homeless were fighting in the parking lot, stalled cars being jumped and worked on in the parking lot. Way too much going on for me! smh I will continue to go to laguna blvd from now on! read more

So thankful for a particular person who helped me out at the self-service checkout. His name was Vincent, and he was so helpful. He cashed my coin receipt from the CoinStar machine (which i needed in order to pay for my groceries). he Helped a customer on the phone and rang up items for an employee all at the same time. It's a smaller store in a less affluent area, therefore they have much less organic choices than Raleys on Freeport. There are always lines due to not enough checkers. The African American guy that stands by and oversees the self checkout is a real creep. If he has to help you he very much resents it and is extremely condescending. If he does not want to work with people, which obvious he does not, why is he working here ! In all my shopping days he is certainly in the top 3 worse and rudest ! read more

I feel lucky to call this my neighborhood grocery store, as it used to be my great grandma's store as well many years ago. The staff are always polite and friendly, and my time over the years coming here I've only had one somewhat "bad" experience that was quickly made right. Less than a month ago, my husband and I got some sandwiches as we do a few times a month. These ones were less than stellar, as they were extremely smaller than the norm, and didn't contain all our ingredients requested. However, a quick phone call fixed everything. The employee took down my name and said next time I come in they'd make it right. Went on down there a couple days later, got my sandwiches, gave my name and the clerk saw the note and said they were on the house. This event happened at 10:20 pm tonight on 9/8/19. A checker named Rhonisia was extremely rude, almost militaristic in character, and stated that she wouldn't be able to let me use the wine carriers for my $5 bottles of kombucha. Rhonisia stated that the carriers were "very expensive and only for bottles of wine, period." I have been shopping at your store for many years and have always received great customer service, until now. When the confrontation came to a close and I was leaving the store, the female security guard jumped in to defend Rhonisia's position and stated that "the other clerks were being extra nice to you, Rhonisia is following the rules, and you should shop somewhere else." I was emotionally shaken by this behavior and treatment and exclaimed to the entire front of the store that this behavior will be reported to the highest level. The day crew has always provided nothing but excellent customer service, but Rhonisia's behavior is the antithesis of being a courteous, civil, or transformative leader. read more

Not at all like in the photos. Those posted must be from their flagship store somewhere else. This is a smaller store with a lot fewer options. Don't expect to find all those good looking things in the deli section, the demographic for this store is only interested in the fried section. No roasted veggies or herbed salmon. I bet not many know that the FISRST Bel-Air lays laid roots in the semi-hood... Luckily they've cultivated such a brand, that no one would know this. But the hood loves them just as much as those non-baller-on-a-budget-er's do too :) Growing up, I swear we stopped here every single day. I didn't realize it then, but in the midst of the so-so hood, lies a gem of boughie proportions. Now that I can understand the magnitude of the situation, I'm astonished that Bel-Air has survived and probably even thrived in this neighborhood. Let's reminisce for a second: prior to their remodel, I used to literally run though the door to the bakery where I knew I'd get my free cookie. I remember Harry, the awesome check out guy - who was always so happy, full of life, and made us all laugh - thankfully, he's enjoying retirement. This place is nothing but good memories for me. I used to love saving the recycling and bringing it here to cash in a whole whopping $5! Before I could discern better options in food, I'd love the nights we ordered Chinese food from here. It was a place my parents would let us wander the isles, I'm guessing they trusted the staff enough to watch out for us if anything looked wary. Coming back as an adult, I can appreciate the first Bel Air ever built. But, don't be mistaken, I do realize that the patrons are not quite what any other Bel Air/Nob Hill/Raley's go-er's are accustomed too. I'm pretty sure I learned what food stamps were from being in line here, that and WIC too! Logistics: To the right is the fresh deli, bakery, and Chinese food. Middle is all the junk isles of processed foods. To the left is the card section and produce, with the hippy, organic food too! The shelves are always stocked and they still sell the best of the best, even though not all their patrons can afford it ;) The store is still kept immaculate and the staff is and ALWAYS has been the best, to our family even more so. The cashiers know my parents by name and even recognize me when I stop by, which is very infrequent these days! My go to meat market and groceries, and this is where I discovered envy apples. THE best apples from New Zealand (currently out of season right now) and I told all my friends about it. They also carry noosa yogurt, but limited on variety. It's a new addiction. Is bel air pricey compared to other groceries stores within minutes drive of Stockton blvd? Yes. But the quality of their meat (particularly steaks and chicken) is better IMO. Their meat department offers free marination although I haven't used their services. Makes it easy for someone who doesn't know how or wants to try something new. The cashiers are nice and friendly. I usually carry a basket because I like to "limit" myself, and somehow I always leave with a whole lot more than i intended. They have a something extra rewards in which you accumulate points and receive a raley's coupon/check for x amount to spend on future purchases. It comes every few months. It's not much, but it's something! I came here for some yellow curry. Why oh why do they have red and green curry paste, but not yellow? oh wells. read more

I had to update my review as this is now one of my favorite grocery stores during COVID. The prices are still reasonable and this location has a better selection somehow than the new big (nightmare) Raley's. I end up doing most of my shopping here since it's closest to my house and their lines are pretty short. They have finally added a couple self-checkout lanes as well! Update: Purchased some pre made packaged pizza dough to make pizza for Halloween. I bought them on Sunday, on Tuesday when I opened them, they were moldy all over!!! Grossed out and enraged since I was in the middle of trick or treaters, I return to the store upset. The expiration date was 1-17-18! I caught a gentleman walking by that looked like a manager, and indeed he was, I showed him the dough, and he responded " you can get a new one" no apology, nothing! Very disappointed when I grabbed another on the shelf, opened it, and it was old in fact also!!! I left pissed at the fact that he didn't offer to compensate me or even apologize! Went today to get my dad a cake since it's his birthday. Waited like 5-7 minutes for someone to attend us. We told her to write happy birthday on the cake and so she went to back took little a good 10 minutes to come back out with this on the cake. It is literally a 30 second drive from my house but I will go out of my way to avoid this place, meaning I will go to the grocery store on Folsom or Safeway on Alhambra. This place is dirty. Bel Air on Fruitridge is our 'go-to' place because of proximity; it's our neighborhood store. The employees are really great and very helpful. My biggest gripe is that I feel this particular Bel Air drew the shortest straw in a game of "who gets quality produce." And then I wonder if it's because of its location ( South Sacramento) that they may only get the short straw anyway. (?) I would be so interested to know more about this. There have been many occasions when we have returned from Bel Air only to find the produce we just purchased is in a weird state. For example, I noticed this today as I walked in looking for strawberries only to see them on sale but half-ripened. (I also am aware that this is NOT strawberry season but it was on the children's' wish list) So, I bought kiwis instead because they were featured. When I brought the pack home and took them out of the container, one was already moldy and one had completely turned to soup inside the skin. So my take-home was 4 out of 6. Why don't you just take it back, you may ask. We have in the past, but it's always met with the Spanish Inquisition, like we need to argue our case. Oh my gosh, if I had a nickel for every time we should have... you get the idea. Tread lightly in the produce section and inspect everything before purchase. Good wine section. read more

This Bel-Air location is the closest to my house. Too bad that it is incredibly badly stocked. The last time I went in, I wanted two things: soy creamer for coffee (insert boring story about lactose here) and demerara sugar. Every other Raley's and/or Bel Air store I've ever been in carries both products. Not this one. Then there's the fact that the aisles are too narrow for two carts to pass each other. Woe to the quick-moving person who gets caught behind a slow shopper! You're going to be there a while, fella, better read the nutrition label on your canned tomatoes for something to do. Finally, the meat selection really stinks. Every single time I've gone in to try and take advantage of one of their weekly meat specials (which are about the only price-savvy reason to go), they are completely sold out. Forget it. Either go across 99 to the Raley's on Freeport (equally pricey, but much better stocked) or hit one of the Asian markets on Stockton. read more

Super friendly staff, community-friendly attitude and really, really good deli sandwiches (I love the "Santa Cruz, sans bacon"). I've been going to this store since I was a kid (born and raised in Tahoe Park), and I love it! I totally get Carolyn's complaint about the small aisles and relatively minimal stock - but it is one of the (if not THE) smallest "supermarkets" around! It was built back in the day, before we supersized everything in this country (including big box chains), and there is NO room for expansion, so there is a drawback there. However, for a quick trip to the store and some delicious produce, I love it there! read more
