I wish I lived around the area because I would come here all the time! They have 24 soft serve flavors along with other ice cream and water ice flavors. Keep in mind they only accept cash though. My boyfriend picked the red velvet cake ice cream in a small cone. Good thing we picked small because they really stack on the ice cream it's like 2-3 scoops. There were even chunks of red velvet cake in his ice cream not just the flavor. I got the mango gelati with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was very creamy and rich. Since last year, Primo has been the love of mine and my sister's lives. From the Cookie Monster, a delicious hard serve flavor, to the Arctic Swirls, Primo Water Ice is always there. There are a plethora of topping choices, let alone types of cones! And while at some parts of the year it may be difficult for them to find work, the employee or employees that is/are there work vigorously, all while serving with a smile on their faces. For example, one time I entered with a large group of 7 or 8 people. One by one, the worker asked us what we wanted and got it to us in a timely matter. Along with this, while Primo's may appear small, there is actually an entire dining room in the back for people to sit and enjoy their delicious water ice or ice cream cones. And let's not forget the very low prices, affordable for most teenagers and adults alike. So with all of these delightful qualities, why wouldn't this seem like paradise? ive been coming here for many years and it was always great but tonight I tried to go in at 10:36 when they close at 11 pm and as soon as we pull up the girl is sweeping and starts shaking her head at us and checking her watch. she kept sweeping and didnt service us. after 5 mins of standing there her coworker finally came and helped us and we were out one minute later. I WANT to like this place but with so many other ice cream and dessert options nearby, I find each visit somewhat disappointing. First, it's SMALL and there is hardly any space inside to order. There's almost always the same two young girls working (and they work very hard), but that means it takes forever to get your items. All it takes is one large family with a few kids ordering a random assortment of things and you can guarantee that you'll be waiting forever. The place could truly benefit from one person taking orders and several people making the ice cream, but space likely prohibits this. Another issue is the cleanliness or lack thereof. The whole place is sticky and run down. I always leave there feeling icky which is a turn off when dealing with food. Ice cream is stained all over the counter where you pay and the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned, let alone deep cleaned, in a long time. Also, the people who make your ice cream will touch your dirty cash and the dirty register and then continue to make food, which is just not sanitary. Also, as others point out, it's cash only. In 2022, that's an easy way to lose business. I've stopped by more than once and forgot that you can't pay with credit card or Apple Pay, and I've left to go elsewhere. That being said, if they did start accepting credit it would likely only slow it down more than it already is, so maybe that's a good thing. All in all, it's fine for a really simple ice cream cone if you don't mind stickiness and don't mind waiting outside (next to a liquor store). A little money by the owner to spruce the place up, and adding another employee or two could go a long way towards rising this up to the level of some of its nearby competitors. read more

All flavors I've had are sweet and fruitful but not quite is corn-syprupy as a certain big box brand across the street. That's why we come here. The Custard is also a flavor of my childhood and I return regularly for that creamy goodness. That's why the gelatis are so perfect. The Bad: Well, it's staffed by high schoolers who are about 90% good and 10% indifferent. They're generally fine. Similarly, the crowd can include a lot of high schoolers and local families which is fine, but makes for a crowded little joint and some annoyance. Hard to blame Primo for being so popular! I am currently 39 weeks pregnant and they have an awesome maternity card program where you get free ice cream your last month of pregnancy. The best! The water ice has a similar consistency to Rita's, but is sweeter and rarely has ice chips. Their black cherry bordeux is loaded with real cherries and will spoil you for anything else. Chocolate peanut butter is pretty darn good too. Location is outstanding. Lots of neighborhood kids passing through, but its still a real family environment. Around graduation time, the local seniors decorate their cars in the primo parking lot. Much fun to see. Sometimes I need to catch a break, so I walk over haddon ave and sit on the benches while i eat my water ice. there is an interesting mosiac on a butcher's to look at and, if your lucky, somebody will be cutting hair at the salon (its no clip joint - its like watching a true artist give somebody a make over on tv). Its family owned and opperated. The water ice is home made. The owner - an italian woman we call her the primo lady - is constantly sweeping the stoop, naturally giving the place a south philly feel. This is a really great place. The prices on everything are so incredibly inexpensive that I don't understand how they earn a living. I've gotten ice cream cones and water ice for myself and family of 3 fro under $5. It's pretty impressive how they sell such quality products at such low prices. The Rita's down the street is more expensive and has much less menu variety than that of Primo. I have been a customer here for over ten years. I have noticed that Primo does an excellent job of employing young people in the community, oftentimes for their first job. This is an excellent customer service, problem solving, teamwork experience and it helps a young person grow and learn, which in turn helps the community. With 4 ice cream type places within 1 square mile I figured the local shop has to be good and why not support the locals. Well I requested a banana split which was pictured on the wall as the traditional kind. The girl seemed bothered that I was ordering but she then asked me what kinda Toppings I wanted? I said give me the traditional kind with strawberry, chocolate & pineapple, she looked at me oddly and said we don't have that.
