I visited Primos Cafe in Flowood, Mississippi [2323 Lakeland Dr] on Wednesday, 06/03/26 around 3 PM. I was so excited to come here because this is a duo restaurant + bake shop, serving Southern favorites. Upon entrance, I was greeted by the staff members in such a warm, hospitable manner. Since I traveled across the U.S. and flew in from California, I was quite famished. I ordered the following: * Hamburger Steak Entree (angus hamburger meat, mushrooms, onions & gravy): Selected the two sides - Mac & Cheese and Turnip Greens. Also came with a green salad (added boiled eggs) and a bread roll. A soft drink was even included with the entree. * Bowl of Seafood Gumbo All of the food was beyond palatable. Everything was super flavorful, and I enjoyed it all from the start to the finish. I was especially quite impressed with the taste of Turnip Greens and Seafood Gumbo (top favorites). The portion of the meal was generous and filling. I was feeling full and satisfied after consumption. I wasn't able to try any of the desserts. However, it was nice to know that there was a variety of freshly-baked sweet treats available. Options included cakes, cookies, pies, pound cakes, and breads. The ambiance of the restaurant gave it a family-oriented, neighborhood diner. The dining room was spacious, with a lot of tables and chairs available. The overall feel was cozy and inviting. From the pleasant customer service of the staff to the delicious food, Primos Cafe definitely delivers. I highly recommend stopping by. read more

My wife and I are en route to Florida and Jackson was a good mid way locations. Primos Cafe was close to our hotel so decided to check it out. I had the Friday special of fried catfish and my wife went with a burger. You order upon entering then get your own drink and choose your own seats. My two sides were mashed potatoes and turnip greens and my wife subbed mashed potatoes for fries. Our meals arrived quickly and we dug in. My catfish was excellent with a crisp cornmeal coating and delicious flavor. Mashed potatoes were also outstanding. The yeast roll was so fresh and tasty and paired well with my meal. My wife really enjoyed her burger and stated it was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were very fresh. She also loved the mashed potatoes. Today's pie was peanut butter but we had no room for dessert. Apparently Primos has other locations and I would strongly recommend this restaurant read more

Same menu but food has changed. Had to wait 30 minutes to be served and had to go to counter to check on our meal. We ordered Pop Shrimp and Shrimp Remoulade. The pop shrimp had a fishy taste. The shrimp remoulade was ok, but served hot and every other time in the last 35 years served cold(the way it's supposed to be). Have been ordering pop salad since the restaurant was on State Street. Primo's is definitely not what it used to be. I tried to get Mac and Cheese, just a medium size and the employee's looked at me as if I had 10 eyes on my face. A training program needs to be implemented by management very soon because there are other choices to dine at. Today I am choosing to dine at Kenova Smokehouse due to lack of customer service and knowledge of product that the Primos illustrated. read more

Stopped by Primos after a doctors appointment for a quick breakfast. Broke from my norm and ordered the egg scrambler with toast and hashbrowns. This Primos has the BEST buttered toast! Always! The hashbrowns, from first glance, looked overcooked but they were ok. Didn't taste burned. I didn't care for the scrambler too much. The eggs were a little too soft for me but nothing for me to complain about. I also got a piece of lemon pie to go for later. Some of the best lemon icebox pie around! read more

The food, prices and atmosphere were great. Just what I expected for a good causal dining experience.

First time here, and it already gave off a bad vibe. The place looks great and has a nice ambiance, but the staff are just not up to standard and seem very uninformed about what they do or offer. From the moment I entered, things went downhill. There was a line that wasn't too long, but it's for ordering at the counter. Once you order, they give you a number to display at your table, and they drop off your food. Yes, "drop off" - the presentation was terrible, and the quality of the food was not worth what they charge. This place is frequented by elderly patrons, and they should be seated and given a menu to look at comfortably, rather than having to stand in line. At the counter, the person who took my order seemed completely clueless, making me wonder why she was hired. She had to ask her colleagues simple questions, like where the hot chocolate was - which turned out to be just a packet of Swiss Miss served with hot water. When it came to ordering an omelette, I asked for a meat omelette, and she added meat to a basic omelette order, which ended up costing more than the all-meat omelette. Ambiance ruined by lack of table service. Food mediocre. My Reuben sandwich did not have slices of corned beef. It had a sprinkling of chopped bits of meat. The bread was inedible. Pickle not deli quality. Only saving grace is availability of fresh hot coffee (not Community however). Jason's makes a much better Reuben, but no midday coffee. Will not return for lunch/dinner. We stopped for lunch while traveling. It was around 12:30, and the restaurant was busy, but we were able to find a seat without too much trouble. The line to order moved quickly. Much to my older son's delight, Primo serves Pepsi. My husband got the chicken fried steak. It was served with brown gravy, which we aren't used to (we expected cream gravy), but he said it was good. The fried okra he got with it was crispy and fresh. My older son got the large chicken finger basket. It came with eight huge strips, and they were hot out of the fryer! My younger son got the chicken sandwich with mac and cheese, and the sandwich didn't skimp on chicken or toppings. I took advantage of all-day breakfast and ordered the Scrambler with sausage, grits, and a biscuit. Delicious! The grits were creamy and tasted like they maybe had a slight hint of jalapeño? All I know is, mine was dang skippy good. Don't miss the bake shop side of Primo's! We grabbed cookies on the way out. The pecan crunch cookies were a perfect finish to the meal. If we're rolling on I-55 in the future, we'll go off the beaten path a bit and head to Primo's again! read more

We ate lunch on May 8, 2025z. The counter lady was super nice as was the rest of the staff. We ordered the blue plate specials with two sides and cornbread. The cornbread was super dry and we made the mistake of putting it in our chicken and dumplings making it too grainy. We were delivered the wrongs sides that were quickly corrected except we are still trying to discover what the dark brown dry beans were called. read more

Primos sits prominently on Lakeland Drive with a light just to the west of it if you are going the opposite direction. There is plenty of parking in the nice parking lot which appears impeccably maintained. I walked into a scene out of the 1920's with Art Deco design. Having never been there I looked for a hostess stand, didn't find one and found my own booth. I waited for about 10 minutes wondering if I were going to be served to realize that I was sitting 10' from the order counter. This place is so pretty that I didn't realize it was fast casual. There weren't a lot of options for breakfast, but I found one that worked for me. I was offered either a mug or a To Go cup for my coffee, which was at a beverage bar with your normal sodas, a regular and decaf coffee selection. My meal was delivered within a few minutes. It was good. The breakfast potatoes were freshly made and my empty plates were immediately picked up by a group of roving wait staff. I was offered coffee fill-ups, thanked and asked to return for a visit again. Pluses all around. The price was average for the meal. The only complaints were, I am sure, related to Covid; there was no salt or pepper on the tables, and no butter or jelly was to be seen for my toast. The eggs are from a carton! You have to ask for shell eggs. I ordered a shelled egg vegetable omelette that came raw runny with huge rough cut veggies. Everything was bland with no taste. The fried chicken was hard and dry. The macaroni and cheese was tasteless and mushy. The pancake was Burt and crunchy. I talked to the manager who shouldn't be managing. I talked to the cook who doesn't care and blames everything on "It's what we've been doing for 40 years." Three other tables heard our complaints and started complaining about their overcooked, dry and bland food. They paid but left it all on their tables. I ran after them to say "complain" The gentleman said we just won't be back. Neither will we! Stop paying for and eating NASTY food! They don't care! read more

The best gift of the year arrived today. Born and raised in jackson Mississippi and now living in Georgia i felt as if a piece of home arrived on my doorstep. A dozen beautifully packaged Gingerbread men!! The packaging was perfect. No damaged cookies. A sweet card (person used by my sister). When we are in jackson we always eat at Primos. The food is just like home cooking. The lovely restaurant on Lakeland Drive is our go to spot. We enjoy a meal then walk to the bake shop area to pick our a treat for everyone in our group. We were invited to dinner at a relatives house the next day so we offered to bring dessert. When in Jackson we try to stop by Primos for some cake so we stopped there and picked up cake for everyone who would be at the dinner. While there I had a taste for pancake so we ordered breakfast for dinner. It was good. Pete's Omelet was a winner. We both added a couple of pancakes and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Love both the Flowood and Madison locations. The food and customer experience are great.

On the 'plus' side, the bakery products are all excellent. The egg scrambler at breakfast is also. So are the chicken strips! On the 'other' side, if noise bothers you, if clashing plates being jammed into the 'bus-boys' tubs, you'll hate the place: there's no more jarring, annoying noise than this, in my opinion, and these boys seem to KNOW what awful noise they're making. read more

It was pretty busy and loud but overall the atmosphere is just fine. If it weren't about 3 hours away we would Definitely visit often. You order at the expansive counter (and try not to be distracted by the amazing array of baked goods-like the biggest gingerbread man cookie I've ever seen) and get your own drinks before finding a booth or table.
