I debated writing this but I if you're here - keep reading. .. As a curly girl from NYC I was very stressed to find a good Curly/Deva certified stylist that has GOLDWELL color since I had my color formula mix from NY. After many calls to different salons and speaking to stylists/receptions. I chose Angela at PRIMP. 1st appt was eyebrow wax, color and consult for a curly cut. Angela was very nice and sweet, we spoke about my hair routine and products etc etc .. but she seemed frazzled during my appt. She struggled with my color formula and just overall handling of my hair. Salon is cute, clean and all staff very nice and welcoming. I wasn't happy with the method of product application and prep for curly style either - she did not section my hair to apply products or brush thru to create curl clumps - she just applied products and comb thru and then diffuse dry - I left very frizzy, i was leaving to Miami the next day so I refreshed my hair for my trip. My 2nd appt was last week for color and curly cut/style. At the start of color application Angela did not brush/detangle my hair so it was an extremely painful and annoying process to sit thru and then be washed creating a bigger tangled mess! As professional stylist, a client should not have to tell you to brush out their hair prior to color! Then came time for the cut - I showed Angela a few photo inspo for my new look, asked for my ends/back of my hair to be "V" shape. At this point, I was so anxious because I didn't feel any good vibes or confidence or seeing a natural flow that I expect to see in a tenured Curly/Deva certified stylist with scissors and my hair in hands, I just hoped for the best, In the end I was not happy with the cut, or curl product application or style/clumping or lack there of - once again! $300 including tip, I left the salon holding back tears UNSATISFIED & FRIZZY. Angela said to come back after I style my own hair to cut more off the top for layers. it's a NO for me - I'm letting it grow out and going to someone else. read more

I was long overdue for a haircut... like a year and a half overdue. Putting your curly locks in someone else's hands is stressful and takes a lot of trust, but the many raving yelp reviews helped make my leap of faith in Angela. When I booked my appointment I had asked a question in the comments section and they answered back within the hour, great communication and first impression. The salon itself was a little confusing to find because of the "Primp- coming soon!!" sign from the side of the building and no other indication that it was the right location from the direction I was coming. But the actual front of the building has the business name. Angela asked me questions about my routine and what I would like to do with my hair, then she gave me her advise of what I should do for the best results. I had no idea what to expect from a Devacut but it's actually a very cool process of cutting each curl dry so your natural curls all work together. By the end of the appointment she had educated me on how to treat my curls for the future and different methods to get different results. It was a great learning experience and my hair is 100x better than when I started. One thing as a side note that I liked was the washing stations room, there was a water fall wall with dimmed lights and soothing music. My only complaint was that I was sweating it was so hot (in the main salon area- the wash room was cooler). And under the drape plus wearing a face mask was almost unbearable. read more

They totally transformed my hair even though it lightened up a little within the month since I colored it. As you can see by these pictures my hair was discolored and very dead. I have been going to Primp in Winter Park for facials and facial treatments since the salon spa opened. I see Helena. If you just take one look at her skin, you'll know you're in good hands. Helena is a perfectionist & by her own admission " slightly obsessive " so whatever treatment you get, you'll have the best result possible. I get facial peels and derma-planing regularly. I have had IPL for skin rejuvenation. I have just completed my most recent dermapen microneedling on my face and chest. I was past due, having had several sessions last year (it's recommended to do a series of three, then maintenance treatments once a year. Thanks to Primp and Helena i have a very youthful fresh face for my age, & I couldn't be happier with her. They sell Glo Minerals products and she can advise you what's best for you. I highly recommend the tinted moisturizer!! I also get my hair done by the owner, Yvette. She uses Euphora color products which are earth friendly and give such long lasting, non oxidizing color. I have fine, straight hair and she gives me great cuts and color. I love this place, my stylist, and the hair products. It's a gorgeous and relaxing setting conveniently located on the corner of Fairbanks and 17-92 with ample parking. If I could give 6 stars I would!! read more

I only go to Primp for one person: Helena Morton. She is the best aesthetician in Central FL. She does waxing, facials, chemical peels, etc. I mainly go for eyebrow and lip waxing but I have gotten two facials from her as well. The reason why I love her is because she is detailed oriented (more like an OCD). She will not leave an eyebrow or blackhead behind...even if your appointment run over, she will keep plucking or picking until your face looks amazing. She is lovely! read more

I had my second visit to this salon. I was new to the area and after doing lots of research to find a salon that offered the "Deva Cut" I found Primp. I have thin, fine, 3b/c hair. My first visit didn't turn out good at all. I had Mallory. Mallory was very, very sweet but also very, very new. I actually left with a mullet and did not get a Deva Cut. After going back to read all the reviews at naturally curly.com, I realized that I needed Angela. So I gave Primp another shot. OMG...Angela. If you have curly hair...you need Angela in your life! In another state I had been getting my hair Deva Cut, or so I thought, for about 8 years. I'm thinking I was getting "sort of a Deva Cut" previously. Angela was able to fix the mess the previous girl had done and also make my curls look like they have never looked before! Small critique for the salon-it's a tad dirty and could use a good cleaning. The shelves have that dust that's just kind of stuck on, the stations and walls need a good wipe down. Oh and LOVE the shampoo room. Usually I have a hard time getting the shampoo because of herniated discs in my neck, it's always painful. Not here, they have very comfortable chair/bowl combo! Calming spa music, water feature, and you also get a relaxing hand massage. read more

Primp is wonderful! I see Kimmy every two weeks for facials and massages, and she's super awesome. She's one of those massage therapists that can actually do hard pressure but can also be gentle if you're too sore/sensitive. Not only that, but I occasionally get microdermabrasions with my facials, which she makes feel really soothing. I also get brazilians/legs waxed by Megan and Kimmy; they do it so well that I never get breakouts and somehow their techniques are way less painful than other places I've been. I have ridiculously curly, "ethnic" hair and avoid getting my hair cut because cosmetology schools simply don't teach students how to handle my hair. As a result, I get stylists that either try and straighten it or cut it the traditional way...which leads to horrible shapes and lifeless hair. I did some research on salons in the area that had people trained with DevaCurl and Ouidad (two of the top curl stylist methods). Because this is more specialized, the stylists are often hard to book and snobby. Yet another reason why I avoid them! Then I found Primp Salon and Angela! I was able to book a same-day appointment and hurried over. I was a little late, but she was waiting and SO friendly. Upon seeing my mess of a head, I simply shrugged and asked for help. I had no style in mind, but it has been over a year since my last cut and there was so much dead. All I knew is that I wanted it healthy, easy to style, and have a cute shape. Most stylists would putter around and be confused, not Angela. She looked at my hair and face, asked some questions about my care routine, and went to work. When all was said and done, I was so pleased. NEVER IN MY LIFE have I had a haircut that I loved, always one that I could tolerate. I've never had it *really* styled with my natural curls. I was thisclose to crying (might have been pregnancy hormones, but oh well). I just felt GOOD about myself. Angela was like a curl miracle worker. Even my 6 year old son was shocked at how shiny and springy my curls looked. Even better was that she didn't push products on me or make me feel bad for past hair mistakes. She also took the time to answer any questions I had and made sure that I was confident in replicating the look at home. Its been nearly two weeks and I'm still in love with my cut! I went to Primp for a DevaCut after doing more research than I care to admit. Judging by past reviews, I knew Angela was the person to see here, but, as a first-timer, I didn't want to pay the extra for a cut I wasn't sure I would like, so I booked an appointment with Izzy. I couldn't be happier with my new hair! I went from extremely long hair that was relatively healthy, apart from some dead ends, to a much shorter, almost bob-length hair. After years of having to keep my hair in long layers, straightened, and battling Florida humidity because other stylists wouldn't cut it short for me, I'm so happy to have found a stylist who actually LISTENS to your concerns and your preferences. I know most people don't opt for short hair, but Izzy was able to replicate the EXACT look I was going for without going too short. He took his time to explain the Deva styling process and gave me tips on what products to use and how as well as how often to come in for trimming (mini Deva as needed every 3 months and the full Deva every 6 months). The salon has a great atmosphere and the shampoo chairs are SO comfortable. I have 2c thick, wavy hair and I'm excited about how bouncy and fun this cut turned out. My Devacurl stylist moved to Pennsylvania so I was stuck! My curls had suffered from the neglect, but Angela reigned them back in. I went with a color as well, since I am going prematurely gray (I'm only 29). Angela explained that we needed to go with a demi color to avoid damage and took me back to a much "younger" color! She was very patient with me in selecting a color that I would like and explained how I need to condition my hair every day, even if just with a spray bottle with diluted conditioner. From the moment I sat in her chair, I knew I found someone who knew curly hair. She used the Deva Curl method and cut my hair dry getting rid of this lovely shelf I had going on in the back of my head as well as getting rid of volume where I didn't need it and evening out the rest of my curls. I have been getting my hair highlighted and colored by Angela for 3 years. I am stopped all of the time and asked where I get my hair done. I believe Angela has found her home at Primp Salon in Winter Park. Primp is an intimate, cozy house that's been converted into a salon. It is across the street from Winter Park village. it is warm, quiet, and a refreshing time of pampering. I also love that I do not have to wait from over scheduling. I did like the cozy, intimate atmosphere of this salon and while most of the people working there were very nice and helpful I did have a bad experience with the person cutting my hair, Angela. I had been to her several times before at other salons and had always loved the cut but did usually get annoyed that it took much longer than it should because she'd be trying to see too many clients at once. This last time at Primp was the last straw for me though. I showed up 10 minutes before my appointment and ended up waiting an hour and 10 min. When she finally did come out to get me she apologized and said she had slept in that day and was way behind. A phone call would have been nice so that I could have gotten some other things done and not just sat in the waiting room for an hour. I wanted subtle foil highlights and a cut. I loved the cut but the highlights came out bright orange. She looked at me just kind of hoping I would like them and I said "is this how you envisioned them turning out?" to which she said "no I should probably tone them down." My appointment for a cut and partial foils and a toner to town them down took 4 and a half hours (in addition to the hour I waited in the waiting room), again because she saw about three other customers and ate lunch at the same time. To top it all off, she ended up charging me for the cut, color, and color correction! I couldn't believe it. So as much as I love how she cuts hair, I just can't spend an entire day getting my hair cut and then pay twice as much because the stylist messed up. I gave two stars because the salon itself seems nice and Angela does cut hair well, but I had to take three off for the horrible service and highlights. read more

The people here are deceiving. I called asking how much a Deva cut cost and they said 75...nothing else was said. Then I get there and I get a mediocre hair cut by Angela, who I told I just needed my ends trimmed, nothing more than that, I didn't want an elaborate hair cut or anything special, just trim my ends, and Angela just snipped a few curls and was done in like 2 minutes with the hair cut. Then when it's time to pay I was charged 90 instead of 75 like they said on the phone. She explained that another hairstylist there is the one that charges 75, she charges more because she's more "experienced". And okay, that's fair, but if someone asks on the phone how much a cut cost they should say "Depends on who is the stylist. This person charges 75, this other one 90. Who do you want to have your appointment with?" Instead of giving you the low ball number and then surprising you with a higher amount. All I did was get my ends trimmed. Who cares about all you "experience", Angela, if all I want is my ends trimmed? I would have booked my appointment with the less experienced stylist had I known of this, since I'm sure she would have been able to do just as good of a job if not better. I could have trimmed my ends myself and done a better job. I even mentioned I was told 75 to Angela and she didn't honor that. She should have made the exception, gracefully charged the 75 as I was told, and then taken it up with whoever made the appointment on the phone. Way to lose a client over 15 bucks lol. Never going this over-priced salon again that didn't even do a good job at trimming my ends, I still have dead ends on half of my hair. What a joke and a rip-off. read more
