The Grizzly Bear tour is far more than they let on; with fantastic locally sourced lunches, engaging hosts, and several stops to see whales and bears, this was one of the best "tourist attractions" I've spent money on. Our 7 hour excursion was truly amazing, especially once the sun came out. Doug takes the time to stop where the whales are and give you information about them, from the different types to the history of the resident orcas to the transient orcas. We travelled up and down the channel to see bears, plus he air drops the photos from the very same day to tour phone, because trust me his are better. I think what really stood out for me was the quality of the fellow passengers. Everyone is sharing in the excitement, passing around binoculars, and swapping spots to share the view. It's rare to see this type of camaraderie with strangers and I appreciated that, especially as you neared a bear that is happily munching while lazing. Today I had an outstanding experience as a guest of Prince Rupert Adventure Tours, going on their 4-hour afternoon whale tour! It totally exceeded all my expectations!! The tour on the beautiful, roomy, 3-tier catamaran began from sunny Prince Rupert harbour and followed the beautiful coastline northward through calm waters to the head of Work Channel. There we were treated to 1 and a half hours of a pod of 8-10 huge Humpback whales seemingly performing for us! They are simply amazing creatures, magnificent and unforgettable in their movements. Our guides were lovely, providing just the right amount of description of the sights along the way and a bit of history. The vessel is very safe, with two pilots, and all the expected safety equipment. Snacks are available, or you can bring your own provisions. There were several children along who were enjoying themselves, with close adult supervision required. I would say it would appeal to ages 6 and above. Hats off to this company!! DO NOT MISS THIS!!! When in Canada, what do you want to see? Bears? Whales? Bald eagles? How about all of the above! I went on the grizzly bear tour in the summer of 2015 and still think about how amazing it is extremely often. This all-day leaves early in the morning and takes you up to the Khutzymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary and it is worth every penny and every second! The big yellow boat is custom designed to get extremely quiet. That means when you see a grizzly on shore, the boat can pull up so freaking close without scaring or bothering the bear away. So close! I'm pretty sure I cried I was so moved at seeing these majestic animals in their natural habitat so close! The tour guides are great at spotting the bears and making sure everyone gets a chance to see them, they're extremely knowledgeable and friendly (well they're Canadians, of course they're friendly). In addition to seeing bears, we saw whales (I want to say grey? Sorry it was a couple years ago and I went on a separate whale watching tour a couple days later to I forgot which was seen where), seals, and on the way back they threw out some (chicken? some sort of meat) scraps and drew dozens of bald eagles to the boat! They were so amazing and beautiful! Just a note, the grizzly tours aren't always in season; sometimes they do whale watching tours instead.
