It's very difficult to get to and from the train station/Ferry Port without a taxi. I was lucky enough to hitch a ride both ways. The owner does do pickups if you call her, but if it's really early in the morning (when the train leaves) good luck. It does not free lockers, which I think should come with the room.

This hotel is way past its prime and is about to cross the line from shabby to seedy. The place is filthy from top to bottom. The exception was the linens; the bedding and towels were clean, but the cracks and crevices and edges and corners were filthy, from the elevator to the rooms to the bathrooms it was bad. The lock set on the bathroom door was falling out, the edges and corners of the floor by the tub were gross with accumulated dirt and grime, the edges like the doorways were just packed with dirt and filth, the caulking in the tub wascovered in mold and mildew, the bathroom fan vent obviously hadn't been vacuumed in ages The electrical outlets are worn out and loose; our cell phone charger fell out several times, scary There is no AC and the one tiny 8"x16" window that opened to allow some ventilation didn't even have a screen The restaurant attached to the hotel has awful prefab food and was a huge letdown Sadly there were not many available options in Prince Rupert but I would NEVER stay here again and I would discourage anyone from staying here I will say the maids and maintenance people I spoke to were much more friendly than the zombies at the front desk, but it's obvious they aren't doing their jobs

(one time I ran out of toilet paper and they didn't change it) Note that floors 5 and 6 have been renovated. Anything below 5 really need some love.The bathrooms in rooms below floor 5 are outdated and the floor and walls are laminate with a bit of mould. Any time you are staying on the floors 5 and 6, it is super nice. Tiled bathtub, granite tables and bathroom counter and etc. Also only floors 5 and 6 have microwaves. If you need to use the microwaves on the other floors, you would need to go downstairs. Too bad no poke gym here. I highly recommend staying here. My favorite is getting the chance daily coupon.

The only disappointment was no guest laundry facility, resulting in me walking in the rain across the street to get my laundry cleaned. This hotel would be 5 stars if guest laundry was provided. conveniently across the street is Tim Horton's, Shoppers Mart, Dollarama, Good location.HIghly recommend, but beware of the large tour groups from the BC Ferry. Sitting on the aged house decks and soaking up the view is the attraction here. But there are some caveats. The worst is the train. Diesel trains come through at all different hours of the day and night. The tracks are so close to the cabins that it's a real atmosphere spoiler. They make talking difficult and shake the rooms. Next is the Wi-Fi, it is pretty bad. It's got a short reach so you can disconnect in the rooms easily. There is no cell service. For some that's an advantage, for others it's not. We were also asked to put our phones on airplane mode if we didn't need to access the Wi-Fi because it uses up their satellite data. Not really my problem. And lastly, the taps are connected to a creek and the water is discoloured. They provide bottled water, however. If these points don't bother you, you should be pretty happy. It's a unique location.

Since our rooms were across from each other we opened the windows and hall doors and got good air flow. But at night it was pretty warm. The other issue was the breakfast area. Pretty small and with no a/c it was a bit toasty, so to speak. But it was great other than that. We'd stay here again.

Our 7 hour excursion was truly amazing, especially once the sun came out. Doug takes the time to stop where the whales are and give you information about them, from the different types to the history of the resident orcas to the transient orcas. We travelled up and down the channel to see bears, plus he air drops the photos from the very same day to tour phone, because trust me his are better. I think what really stood out for me was the quality of the fellow passengers. Everyone is sharing in the excitement, passing around binoculars, and swapping spots to share the view. It's rare to see this type of camaraderie with strangers and I appreciated that, especially as you neared a bear that is happily munching while lazing. Truly worth it, so glad I spent the time and money on this.

There are two departing flights and two arrival flights every day. Basically the same plane goes back and forth between Vancouver and PR. So, I landed at the airport and first thing I did was to grab my checked bags. After grabbing the bags there was a shuttle bus that was waiting for me. Loaded my luggage onto the giant truck/van and then got onto the chartered bus that went onto the ferry and took me to Prince Rupert downtown. My baggage was waiting for me downtown. It was definitely a long journey. Also don't think about swimming from Digby island to Prince Rupert. Its too far to swim..... The ferry ride took about 20 mins. Make sure you ate before coming to the airport. There is no food for purchase at this airport. I flew in from Vancouver and the flight took about 2 hrs plus getting my check bags and getting on the shuttle bus and onto the ferry and to downtown it some how equated to about 3 hours in total. WOW what a trip to get to Prince Rupert Island.

If your next door neighbors -- the nice ones, not the neighbors on the other side -- ran an airport, this is what it would look like. Brick, one story building. One gate. Two flights a day. A vending machine. Very clean. The security lady probably has to restock the vending machine when she's done scanning the passengers.
