I don't know how many times I have found backpackers inn's or hostels just plain disgusting to stay at, but this place is a gem! I would call it a B&B. Chrissy the owner, has just renovated a large section and it is super bright, tasteful and incredible value for your money. Honestly whoever goes to Prince Rupert and wants incredible value and be around youthful people of all ages this is the place. it is not a party house, return drunk from the bar sleazy pad. I rode through the rain into Prince Rupert around 3:00pm, bought a ferry ticket, and started thinking about shelter for the night. The Manager at the ferry terminal recommended a couple hostels, and mentioned that the Pioneer Inn had been recently renovated. After a drive-by of the hostel, it was clear this would be the place to spend the night. The hostel has a clean, welcoming look from the outside, especially when contrasted with the gloomy, rainy, and cold September weather. Things got better once inside; there was a comfortable living room, and most importantly for me, a professional kitchen available to guests. I checked in and opted for the shared dormitory option on the top (3rd) floor. The rate was fair (~$30 all inclusive), and the room was cozy and well appointed. There was no bathroom in the room, but there was a recently renovated one a few doors down on the same floor. The hostel is located off of the main street in Prince Rupert, and is very close to groceries and restaurants (Safeway and Cow Bay). Right behing the building there is a community garden worth looking at, where one could easily read or relax (weather permitting). The people working there were mostly helpful, some very nice, and others business-only. Overall, the Pioneer Backpackers Inn is a great find, and worth staying at if one visits Prince Rupert. read more

Yep this place is super comfy and nice. And oooooooo so clean. I was a tad creeped out by the CCTV cameras. Not sure what's up with that? Also, no pick up service from the airport bus drop off. Great location close to adorbable cow bay, and % off businesses! Hooray. All the people that I talked to were very friendly, and helpful. read more

Pioneer is probably the cutest building I've ever seen. I felt at home for the three nights I stayed here. It's very quiet and daytime nap friendly, which was good for me because I am a bit of a night owl! The bathrooms were cleaner than my own and the views of the mountains are pretty nice. I hope I have the chance to stay here again in the future. read more

I haven 't stayed at a hostel since I was in my 20s, which was in the last millennium, so I was a bit cautious about staying at this one which, I agree, is perhaps better characterized as a B&B. Not to worry: it was clean, quiet, well-managed, and the other guests were courteous and polite; in fact, one was even older than I! I had a private king bed w/ a bath en suite, on the ground floor, and I was never disturbed. TV and WiFi were good, shower was strong w/ plenty of hot water, kitchen facilities were ample, and everyone did their fair share of cleaning up after themselves. The discounts offered to other businesses in PR were a nice touch. The grounds are nice, and it's w/in stumblin' distance of most anywhere. I did not mind the CCTV cameras, in the sense of either noticing or objecting to them, at all, and appreciated the pains the hostel took to make it clear that it is NOT a "party hostel." In all, a very nice experience to which I'd gladly return. read more

Pioneer is a well-kept, clean hostel with an owner who cares for her guests. She helped me navigate the beautiful city of Prince Rupert and even gave me a ride to the BC Ferries station since she wasn't able to pick me up the previous night. The beds are comfortable and the shower room is clean and proper. I recommend it highly. Don't forget to save your receipt for a discount from the local coffee shop! read more

One of the most warm, welcoming, and stylish hostels I've stayed at. We checked in at 3am after arriving on the ferry from Juneau. After hours check-in was well described at time of reservation and easy upon arrival. Had a private bedroom with shared bath. Bed was quite comfortable, bedroom was cute, and shared bath was clean and beautiful. A lovely place to rest! read more
