Not worth the cost. I gave Princeton saloon a six month. Try just to be sure. It is very noisy. It attempts to be upscale but fails miserably. On my last visit there I was charged for a procedure that I did not get. I asked the stylist call me so I can talk to her about it, and she has never done that. I was refunded the money, but a call would have been the proper courtesy I have since found another salon that charges a fraction of what Princeton did and does a perfectly decent job. read more

I am very hesitant to post this review as I don't really want for the salon to get so busy that I can't get an appointment anymore.........Simply put, if you need a good haircut, style and color........This is the place. I have been to some of the most renowned salons in New York and LA but this little salon in Gainsville is far superior. My stylist is Heather Duke and she is simply AMAZING. I had the extreme pleasure of having my hair FIXED by Kayla Senior. I recently had a bad haircut that looked a bit like a mullet that is being grown out. I have had it in a messy bun on top of my head since that cut. Recently have moved to GA and made an appointment with Kayla. She was so pleasant from start to finish and I left feeling so much better about my hair. I am in the car with my husband driving right now so I can't post pictures, but I wanted to leave a quick review to say that I couldn't be happier with Kayla and her wonderful skills. Let me preface this by saying that I've gone to Princeton about 4 times (maybe more) from 2020-2022. I've always chosen Princeton because it was convenient, however, I definitely won't be going back. I don't think I've ever truly been satisfied with the results. I used to get my hair colored but recently, I've just gone with a cut and style. I rarely write reviews but I'm so tired of the poor service. Friendliness: The people are usually ok. Not super friendly but not mean. Hair cut: the hair cuts are average. Style: every time I've gotten my hair cut here, I've had to repeatedly ask for my hair to be evenly parted in the middle. I always end up parting it myself. On my most recent visit, today, I asked for a blowout and was given a straight blow dry. I paid $65 for a mediocre, rushed cut and not what I asked for. This has happened multiple times. Time: stylists have almost always, if not always, late. Princeton isn't the worst salon but it's overpriced for what it is. Definitely wouldn't recommend going here unless you need a simple cut and don't care about styling. read more

So, This is a really good salon. They're very nice, prompt, and spa-like. However, I'm not sure if I understood properly but when I went blonde I told my stylist I wanted my hair to be ashy but she told me the bleach was gonna lift it however it lifted, so I don't think she toned my hair. Also my hair was more expensive than the appointment I set it up to be online. Which is fine, but a warning would have been nice. I gladly still had money to tip my stylist 25%+ read more

I've been using Chelsea at Princeton in Gainesville for about 2 years, and have been extremely pleased with the result of every cut & color I've ever had there. (Believe me, this is a HUGE compliment from me - I had the same stylist for nearly 10 years before relocating to Gainesville - a 5 hour drive for a haircut is, unfortunately, not very practical lol) Chelsea is and has always been very friendly and patient with me. I tell her what I want, or what I think I want, and we discuss it before starting anything - we don't even wash my hair until we're on the same page. She has even fixed an at-home hair disaster more than once. The salon is modern, clean, and cute inside, and the staff is always very friendly. I don't have any issues getting appointments for pretty much whatever day/time I need them. My only complaint is parking, since it is located in the downtown historic area with very limited parking. More than once I have gone in on a Saturday morning for a 9am appointment and still had to park either across the square or a block away. The salon is also a little pricey, but is an Aveda salon and the quality of work I get make this a VERY small complaint. I generally like to save money wherever I can, but my hair is NOT something I generally compromise on. read more

Clean friendly salon. Great shampoo! Went in asking for mocha and blonde highlights which i already get done every 6 weeks. Just add more blonde i asked! So the lady adds the blonde and no mocha then wait for processing and washes then dries. Well i turned out blonde and i ask where's my mocha? She tells me i already have a mocha base. No, i asked for mocha highlights as well. So then we add mocha and before doing so i tell her i don't want natural looking hair. I came in with chunky highlights and that's what i still want to leave with. My stylist says ok. So processing, wash and dry. Now i have brown hair and the stylist tells me that they do more of a natural look. I left clearly unhappy and she says I'll leave my manager a NOTE. read more

I asked for master stylist ( I have long curly hair). Scheduled for 1:45 with Seth. When I got there they put me with a newbie who didn't have the confidence to do the style I wanted. Before I let her cut it I felt so uncomfortable. Seth was next to us and said he got behind and couldn't do it. Hmmm I guess I won't return. Kind of haphazard way of doing business. read more

Great salon and service but I am a little sad about my preferred hair stylist not being with the company any longer.

I debated even taking the time to review, but I feel it's important. I got my hair cut on March 13th by Ashley S. I have very long hair, and wanted 3-4 inches cut off and it to be thinned out. When she sat me down, she mentioned my hair was still barely wet from me washing it and asked if I wanted it washed there as well. I said I prefer a wet cut, and she immediately said we could brush it out since it was mostly dry and cut it dry. She asked what I wanted done, I told her 3-4 inches (or more if it needed more to be healthy) and that I wanted it thinned out. She said she could absolutely do that. She began cutting, and had me stand up to cut the front of my hair which had never happened before - no big deal though. She then asks me to look and tell her if my hair is cut even. It clearly wasn't so she evened it up a little more. I have never been asked by anyone who has cut my hair to tell them if my hair is cut even, that's their job. If I had a wet cut, I imagine this would have been a lot easier for her to figure out without my assistance. My stylist was extremely not confident in anything she did, which made it a super unpleasant experience. She didn't thin my hair out at all. Their was still hair around her station from the person before me. This was no where near a $65 (+tip) hair cut. I thought about disputing my charge because I was so unhappy, but I think I will just learn from this experience and not return to Princeton. I wouldn't even pay half of what I paid again for this haircut. read more

Both registers were occupied so she came around to help me. Ashley, came around to greet me. She was very nice, down to earth and listened well to my concerns about my hair color. I'll preface this by saying I am ridiculously picky about hair salons. I was spoiled growing up with an amazing stylist, and I've had a very difficult time anywhere that I've lived finding someone who lived up to my expectations. I may be too picky, but this is one area on which I really have no space to compromise... The salon is located in the square, and parking is very limited especially during normal weekday business hours. So be aware that you may have to park and walk from a bit of a distance. It wasn't a big deal for me, but I wanted to throw that out there, as I know it can be an issue for some people. The ambiance of the salon is nice. Lots of stylists chairs, lots of people working, not too noisy, and seemed to be clean. It wasn't super bright, which looking back now maybe should have been an issue for me. They have nice chandeliers, but they don't provide a ton of lighting. I went in for a cut (locks of love donation), and style. I did not have any color done (I never ever have color done until I've trusted someone to cut my hair a few times and been pleased with it), so I can't attest to the color skills - this is strictly cut/style. When I called initially, they had three tiers of stylists. Since this was supposed to be a pretty simple whack 13" off, even out, and style - they were confident in the skills of their bottom tier (i.e., newly graduated from beauty school and not enough experience yet for 2nd tier, still under supervision of the top tier/managers). I went with this (I've had fine experiences at my old salon with new hires in this situation). When I arrived, the girl I was assigned to called me over pretty quickly - no long wait. We did the big cut first (all well here), then washed (fine as well) and began the shaping/trim segment. The stylist seemed to struggle a little with how to shape my hair, but her manager came over and gave her a few pointers and then moved on to his next appointment. When she finished, I checked the mirror, but between the fact that it was scrunched a bit with gel and such, and the lighting - it was hard to tell how it really came out. It wasn't until I washed it the next day that I noticed that it was pretty uneven. I trimmed the really long ones myself - the obvious ones - and the rest I left. With a scrunched look/gel, it didn't look terrible. And when pulled into a ponytail I could ignore the uneven. I probably could have gone back and asked them to fix it, but I would rather have someone I trust do that - so I waited until my next trip home and had my old stylist take care of it for me. Her first comment when she started to trim it was about the uneven cut - asking where I had it done at. I hadn't even mentioned the fact that I thought it was uneven yet. So that tells me that it definitely wasn't just me being over-picky. Anyhow - I guess lesson learned here is find a good salon first, then when you're comfortable, let the bottom-tier people do the easy stuff if you are comfortable with them. I saw plenty of people with nice cuts walk out of the salon, so I would imagine that the higher-tier stylists probably have a good skills, but I haven' t had the nerve to go back. Again - I'm skittish with new stylists. Sadly, I do need to find someone soon, so if I do brave this one again, I will update my review with the results of my return visit. But I haven't decided on that yet. read more

I called and got a same day appointment . Which I thought was great. Got there and the salon looks nice and modern. I like that. When my stylist came and introduced herself ( Amber) I showed her my picture. I was going from long hair to a bob with bangs. She seemed to understand. After the shampoo she said she started cutting. Then she said she would blow dry and finish cutting then. I said including the bangs ? She said yes. Ok blow dry over. She starts cutting again , meanwhile talking about my color over and over. I need my grays covered but I knew that and I do it myself. Which I told her. Another half hour of cutting , suddenly her next customer was there an she says done. No bangs, a hundred layered bob later I am done. Doesnt remotely look like my pic. The second worst haircut I've ever had. Sent my daughter there hoping it was just the stylist. Nope she had the same results. Steve did not remotely cut it like she wanted. Don't bother going here if you actually want a specific style . They will cut the way they want. I recently moved to the area and am still looking for a stylist with less than stellar results. I was dubious about trying yet another salon but liked the look of the place and so gave it a shot. I'm SO glad I did. They were able to give me an appointment right then with a Master Stylist - Nadene. She was amazing! She really listened to what I wanted and did a great job. At first she didn't cut enough off the back as I'd asked but when I asked her to cut it a little shorter she did. I'd rather have to ask for more to be cut than have a stylist whack too much off! She was very good to work with me and make the adjustment to get it just the way I wanted. It's a great cut, looks good and I'll definitely be back! The reception staff were very friendly as well and the atmosphere was pleasant. Parking on the square can be challenging depending on when you go but that's hardly a big deal for a stylist who listens and does such a good job!! read more

the first day i was scheduled, i came to the square early about 8:45 and went next door and spent $10.00 on a coffee and a snack so i would be there by 9. As i was eating i received a phone call saying that my stylist wasn't coming and i needed to reschedule. so i did that and went home. next visit, i explained that i wanted a perm which incidentally is on the brochure so i found it puzzling that when I requested one, so little is known about how to do one. Anyway, i had to sign a waiver because i had colored hair and there was no "guarantee" of the results. I've had many perms in my life and wasn't concerned about possible fading of my color or less wave. but i also thought that along with the perm, they would trim the ends. I ended up with a flat "perm" with no trim and my color stripped from my hair. I paid with a $90.00 Xmas gift card plus an additional $35 for the use of extra solution for the "perm" and then a $25 tip. The next two days i waited to wash it because it was so dry (i told my friends that it was like a broom). To my disappointment, after the money I spent, it was just as dry. I put real Moroccan argon oil in my hair in hopes of a better texture but to no avail. I called on Monday to see if there was any way to fix my hair, to help make it manageable at least. They got me in and did a "mask". I also asked her how much it would be to color my roots since they left me with patches and it would be an additional $45. I agreed to the color and then asked for a cut because I had originally thought it was a part of my perm. She said that it would be an additional cost, a "deal" at $25. I hadn't had it trimmed in a year and since it was not included in any part of what i was having done, I agreed. Now mind you, the total continues to grow. My "cut" consisted of have my hair cut twice across the length and twice on the frame of my face that was all- 4 cuts of the scissors. I left a $15 this time. It's not like i had a style? All together, 6 hours for a trim, a perm, coloring, and conditioning- totaling: $245.00. A perm that is flat and brittle, a trim that took 4 snips, a color I only needed because they left my hair spotted, along with my face from the dye. On top of the original perm that left my shirt soaked in chemical solution that ran down under my blouse and left my laundry room smelly. $245 for a professional service by "professional stylists" that did an unprofessional and extremely overpriced service that took a total of 6 hours+. Was my outcome worth that amount? Absolutely not, not even after the mask. Never recommending or returning to this salon. read more
