I was very satisfied with Danyl, she is a excellent colorist. She colored and "trimmed " my long layered hair that was butchered by another professional shop almost 2 yrs before. I have tried to grown out the 1 side that was butchered with a razor but Other stylist insist on getting everything even, which always takes me back 6 months. Danyl listened to me and just trimmed at nice ling angles and it was perfect. Highly suggest Danyl and this salon. read more

I saw Maddie and she ruined my hair. I went in for a highlight to go lighter and ended up darker and my hair was absolutely FRIED!!!! It has been almost 4 months and my hair is still breaking off and I can't seem to recover it. I have spent over $1,000 dollars on new hair products and treatments to try to get my hair back to normal without falling out. I was charged $250 to have my hair destroyed and I can't even look at my hair in the mirror anymore. I absolutely am damaged emotionally. The owners tried to give me a conditioning treatment but that did not help. No one has offered to return my calls and messages now regarding a return of the $250 I paid or retribution of any of the costs that I have had to incur because of this one visit. It is going to take years to recover from this. read more

Great place, and yes, Ashley is fantastic. I will have to stop going here though as they have trouble keeping appointments. I just sat in their waiting room, after my appointment time. 3 folks came in after me and were rushed to the wash area. I had to reschedule after waiting 20 min and will now cancel as I had to get back to the office. Again, great place, just not for the tight scheduled professional who has to adhere to a calendar. I have had my hair done here since I was in college. It doesn't matter how far away I live, i always drive back to Dawsonville for an appointment. The location is easy to find and the building is beautiful! Staff is always gracious and what can I say Bout my stylist, Ashley?? Of course I'm partial but she can do ANYTHING! In fact I have people take pics of my hair all the time so they can try and re-create it at their salon! The salon is clean. Which goes a long way with me. I don't have to shuffle through strangers' hair when loving around. And staff is always kind ans friendly. They also have a great selection of products to buy including straighteners and shampoo/conditioner etc. They are also available for up-dos for special occasions. I come in with a vague idea of what I want and Ashley works her creative magic and makes my hair look INCREDIBLE. I've recommended numerous people here and almost all my family goes to Ashley, too! This picturesque little cabin is right off of 400 a bit up from the outlet mall. I had my hair cut and colored here recently. It has a reputation as one of the nicer places to go to in North Georgia, and the cost was great for the reputation. Very professional staff and atmosphere. I walked in without an appointment (even though the parking lot was overflowing) and didn't have to wait very long. I was pleased with the results. Just loving J Thomas Salon! Last week I discovered that my hair dresser of 20 years retired and I was in search of a new salon. Ladies, we all know that our hairdresser is the most important person and to be valued as well! I had always noticed J Thomas Salon on the way to Dahlonega as their parking lot is always full. That is always a good indicator ! Booking my appointment was a breeze, and Anna was prompt and already had my color numbers from the prior salon. She and the owner, Johnny, made me feel right at home. The atmosphere was so upbeat, ladies talking and laughing, and most importantly, the big smiles on everyone's face as they were leaving! Now, I have to tell you that I have blonde hair and extensions. I only color the front portion of my hair, and the trick is to match the color of the extensions. They did an excellent job of matching! Perfect color ! And speaking of color, the customer across from me walked out with drop dead gorgeous grey hair and the most stunning hair style all by Kirstin ! The salon is so beautiful, very clean and organized but the blessing is the quality of service, the hospitality, and the talent of the people! I had a fantastic experience at this salon! It is located near the outlet mall in Dawsonville (about 5 miles away right off 400). It is appointment only and they looked busy so I would call well in advance just to be safe! Jaime was my stylist, and she was PHENOMENAL! I explained what I wanted (blonde balayage) and she explained how we would work to get there. She was really great to talk to, and I could tell she really knew what she was doing. I already had a friend of from work drive almost an hour from her house to come see Jaime and this salon, and I would recommend the same for everyone! The prices were very reasonable which is not something I can say for most salons around here. I can't wait to continue working with Jaime in the future! My mom and I have been loyal customers of them for years, we followed one stylist out of J Thomas until we floated back. Well when we went in a week ago, I wanted a perm touch up (for my roots) as well as a trim and my mom wanted whole colouring with lowlights. The perm was finished fast, but even with a master stylist she still did not trim as much of as I'd like. I thought 'oh well maybe my hair is going to scrunch up when it dries, but no still too long'. My mom's hair was even worse, at first the haircut looked fantastic only to look kinda disappointing when we left, but we were too happy to notice. When my mom brushed it, the colour turned awful. It seemed to smear and fade. It turned from an amazing look to a I-got-a-box-at-Walmart. Well between work and snow, I could only book it a week later. I convinced my mom for one last trip, but between being kept waiting to arguing with my mom's stylist who kept insisting it was my mom's fault to finally having my own stylist instead of cutting my hair immediately she instead sat there acting like my mom was a petulant child when she refused to let them touch her hair after they refused to admit it was their fault. I sat waiting for at least 10-12 minutes for a simple trim. A appointment there for a simple dry cut lasted 1 hour due to their poor customer service and time management. The only saving grace was that they did not charge me for the trim, but even so I am beyond done with the salon. read more

I recently moved to the area and needed to find a new salon so after reading reviews I went in with a photo of the cut and color that I wanted. I saw Charli and explained in detail what I wanted which was to trim my hair, add a few layers and leave my overall color dark but to add a few neutral to ash balayage highlights. My hair has a tendency to pull orange so I explained to her that in order to get the color I want, she has to use ash. After three hours in the salon, I left with copper highlights which was the opposite of what I wanted. I didn't even realize they were copper until I got home because the lighting in the salon is so terrible. They are closed Sunday and Monday so I called on Tuesday and made an appointment for a color correction on Wednesday. I took her outside, showed her the color in the sunlight, explained again that I didn't want it to be light overall but that I wanted it mostly dark with just a few very neutral to ash highlights and to add some lighter blonde pieces into the existing highlights - NO WARM TONES. She added lowlights throughout but then instead of adding a few blonde pieces into the existing highlights she foiled stringy blonde pieces randomly throughout my hair. After a toner, I checked it only to find that the blonde highlights were bright, neon yellow so I asked her to tone it again. After the second toner it seemed like maybe the tones were better (again, I could't tell inside because of the lighting and it's hard to see with a hand mirror outside) so I left. When I got home and checked the color, it was once again copper and yellow and looked nothing like the photo I showed her. I should also mention that the cut is nothing like the photo either. Shorter than I wanted, overly layered and doesn't look like a modern cut. Plus, one side is an inch longer than the other. Because I am still unhappy after I spent nearly $140, 6 hours in the salon and 2 hours driving there was no way I was going in a THIRD time so I called, politely explained the situation and asked for a refund so I could pay to have it fixed at my old salon. They replied telling me that they would not refund my money. In short, I paid for a service, they were unable to deliver even remotely adequate results and then they kept my money anyway. No integrity and completely dishonest business practice. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this salon. They do not value their customers' time or satisfaction and were willing to let me be unhappy with the result rather than refunding my money and keeping my business. read more

I love j Thomas salon. Tanya did my hair the first time I went a little over a year ago and I was so happy with my haircut that I continue to go back. I described to her exactly what I wanted and that is what I got. She is very sweet and friendly and always good about making sure that you are getting your hair done the way you want it from the beginning to the end of your appointment. She also always asks if you need any products when you visit and the salon always have the widest selection of the best hair products. Everyone else at the salon is also always very nice from the receptionist to all of the other stylists. I have recommended the salon and Tanya to many of my friends and I will always keep coming back no matter how far I move away. I had an appointment scheduled for an all over color with Danielle and when I get there I show her a picture of an all over Auburn color and tell her I want it exactly like the picture. She says okay and proceeds to give me a balayage that I said I didn't want. Why would I schedule an appointment for an all over color if I wanted a balayage?? I was trying to get rid of the previous balayage I had done like 6 months prior...And the color she put on my head was not auburn what so ever but a vivid red that may I add only lasted a week and now my hair looks just like it did before the appointment. After paying $185 you would think any color would last more than two washes. And the color only took her an hour to do which is not long enough to do even a balayage. She basically mixed up the color in a bowl and applied it in the sink before washing my hair, no actual application process was used. Not to say that Danielle wasn't super nice because she was, she was super friendly. She just didn't give me anything remotely close to what I asked for. I would not recommend this salon! Ashley flat-ironed my hair (I don't understand why, since my hair is already straight). She ruined my hair! The first time I washed & dried it, I could see broken off pieces all over my head. Some are not even an inch long! It will take years for my hair to look healthy again! I'm so utterly disappointed. I have NEVER had my hair colored in my entire life and wanted a change. I also wanted to treat my mother to getting her hair done and us having a day together, which is a rare occurrence. I went in FIRST for a consultation with Robert to show him my hair type and know that he understood what he was working with. I paid for a blow out so he could see how thick my hair was. He even made comments on how much hair I have while blow drying/styling it. I booked myself with him and my mom with Joel for the same day to get our hair done. The day I pulled up to the salon I got a call from Robert telling me he double booked us with another client and that he booked us for the wrong monday. So now, the stylist I booked my mom with wasn't available. He said he would call the other client and just do both my mom and my hair. Okay, no problem, honestly. Then I had this Clay bleach put on my hair that stopped processing after a certain amount of time. Mind you, I have RED hair, I have redish Auburn hair. My worry was that I would end up with orange or yellow hair having bleach baliaged into my natural hair. I showed him a photo of what I wanted, after he asked for one. My mother also showed him photos of what she wanted. Now, when he was washing my hair out, he kept saying "wow you're hair is strong." And I was worried that it didn't take. Then when he styled it, he made comments like he didn't even remember how thick my hair was when you blow it out, going from wet natural hair to styled. I wasn't liking the way he was styling it and tried to tell him that's not how I like my hair styled. He kind of got a little huffy about it. I felt like he wanted to do my hair how he wanted rather than how I wanted it. He did say my hair would look yellow in the salon lighting, but that it wouldn't turn "Puerto Rican blonde." So when I saw my finalized hair I did feel it was a bit yellow but I didn't mind the placement of the baliage and I kept in mind about what he said about the lighting. I had to get to work so I left, and when I was in my car in the natural light I wasn't liking it at all. It's very orange and yellow mixed in with my natural red hair. It looks like I bought a boxed bleach and did it myself, honestly. When I paid and my mom was still getting her hair done, we agreed to come back in for lift and to make it how I wanted it. I had to book an appointment 2 weeks out because of how his and my works schedules were conflicting with one another, which is no fault to him. BUT when I showed up for my second appointment the door were locked and the salon was closed. I texted him and he told me he had texted me telling me he wouldn't make the appointment. I NEVER GOT A TEXT OR CALL FROM HIM THAT DAY. I booked the appointment on an app, I booked two in the same day and let him know, because I didn't know how to delete the first one and set both of them in my phone calendar. When the first one went off I called him to confirm the appointment and to make sure I wasn't accidentally bailing on him. He said he NEVER missed a call from me that day. Now as for my moms hair, she got a chunk of tinsel gold looking highlights on the side of her head and a few stragglers of highlights in the back. It looks horrible. Her greys weren't even covered and she honestly didn't even get a hair cut. Her cut looks the same as before she went in! Robert and I had a conversation over the phone which was mostly him talking on and on and when I tried to talk I'd get interrupted or told how offended he was that I thought he wasn't being honest about not seeing and call from me and not actually texting me when he said he did. I was told I needed to get on Google and read about how cell phones work. I was honestly so frustrated that I couldn't even talk because I was trying to hold back blowing up on him. NOW, he said he would refund my color, it's been TWO WEEKS. I messaged him last week asking if he was going to refund my color and he told me he had contacted the merchant and that it should be refunded by LAST Wednesday. I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN A REFUND. And it was for ONLY MY COLOR. Not even my moms. We were both charged for a cut and didn't even barley get a damn hair cut. I'm so beyond livid and mad that my hair is now ugly with this being the first time I've ever changed or colored my hair. I should have just left my natural Auburn hair alone! Because now I literally have the same hair color as a calico cat. And now I can't even book an appointment to have it corrected because I set that money aside for the initial color hoping this WOULDN'T HAPPEN. BUT it did, and I just have to deal with having ugly hair until I can afford to have it fixed or chop it all off, which makes me mad because I was planning on growing my hair out. I shouldn't have ever gone to that salon you get my hair done. And I feel that ALL my money should be refunded fully for both mine and my moms hair, but I know that's never going to happen. read more
