It's like a medium rare burger, it requires very little chewing. It's the combination of the French roll, the steak, the grilled onions, and Asiago cheese that truly make it just a great sandwich. Even after devouring it, it's still on my mind and I wouldn't mind coming back to try other items on the menu. Customer service is very friendly and attentive. First the staff. They are the sweetest people. I had a conversation with J. (I am so very sorry I wasn't sure on the name) She helped me decide what to have as I hadn't been there before she was so sweet. They had beef stew as the soup of the day. She kindly offered me a sample. OMG it was one of the best Ive had! I ordered the stew and a Panini. It was a roast beef and cheese Panini. So good. I like the atmosphere in there it's small with a long table to sit at and it's a warm family type atmosphere. I definitely enjoyed the food and the staff was wonderful. My coworkers from Vocamotive introduced me to this family-owned deli shop. It is located in the strip mall off of York and Ogden by Shell. The people that own the shop are very welcoming and sweet. Besides choosing from their great selection of meats, cheeses, pasta salads and Italian fixings, you can also order lunch. I've tried lunch items from their hot and cold options. For the cold lunch options, I created my own sandwich. The deli meat is freshly carved upon order. Very generous amount of meat and veggies are used for the sandwich. I also ordered a side of chicken salad, which had juicy grapes garnished in the creamy chicken goodness. For less than $10, I have a great tasting sandwich and side of chicken salad. For the hot lunch, I tried the NY Strip Steak Sandwich which came topped with caramelized onions and was served with a hoagie roll. Very excellent and a great treat-your-self lunch to have during the work week! My favorite butcher shop in the city closed abruptly a few months ago. I always got everything there, including my holiday prime rib roast every year. My searches for butcher shops that sell prime meat were not bringing up much but I finally found this based on word of mouth. After looking it up, I saw they did, in fact have prime meat! Of course I had to check it out. There are two main cases: one that has large portions (which they did say they can cut for you) wrapped and another that is a typical butcher case with precut and some premade dishes. They also have a lot of sausage that is made in house. They offer house made sandwiches, which I am anxious to try. In reading through some of these reviews, many people criticize the price point. What I would ask is what other spots they are purchasing prime meat (really, because I want to add it to my rotation) and how the price compares. You simply cannot compare the price of choice to prime. It is just not a valid comparison. I noticed a few people comparing to Whole Foods or Standard Market, neither of which carry prime. If people have purchased at other butchers that sell prime and can compare the price and quality, that makes sense but everyone reading should at least understand the difference before labeling a place 'pricey.' I first spoke to a young, blonde woman who was extremely friendly. After Dan Jr. overheard me discussing prime meat and cooking, he came over to introduce himself. We ended up speaking for quite some time. He was very nice and knowledgeable and advised that he can special order many things they don't typically carry, such as pork belly. I got two prime, bone-in ribeyes, hot Italian sausage and two HUGE all-beef hot dogs. They offered to vacuum seal anything I wasn't going to eat right away, but since I have my own vacuum sealer, I passed. But that is a nice additional feature that most butchers don't offer. The steaks were nicely marbled throughout, which they should have been given the prime status. They were unbelievable tender. I really enjoyed them. But what really pushes this place above and beyond are the sausages. I don't think I've ever had sausage this good outside of Italy. It was so tender and flavorful. The hot dogs, while very flavorful and which had an excellent snappy casing, were just too large for my liking. No hot dog bun would fit these. But overall, very solid spot that I will frequent! read more

I go to hunt out the best piece of beef known to man-not to mention the fresh turkeys that they have every Christmas and Thanksgiving! No-there are not racks of dead cows hanging in full view of the consumers- nor are there ducks strung up around as interesting decor. This is still Hinsdale, you know!! But this neighborhood butcher shop has everything and more. Prime Rib? Check. Tenderloin? Check. Prime or Choice cuts? Check. Giant cheese and vegetable stuffed chicken breasts? Check. Even their sides are amazing. Boursin cheese and prosciutto wrapped asparagus spears. Double baked potatoes. Giant portebella mushrooms stuffed with butter and bread crumbs! Absolutely delicious. We bought a Turkey, 2 Turkey breasts, gravy and a mashed potato casserole for our Thanksgiving dinner this year. The Turkey was moist and flavorful, the gravy was PERFECT, and the mashed potato casserole was more like a double baked potato casserole.... Also extremely delicious! O...M...G... this is Carnivore Paradise. Seriously. And being how I am a shameless carnivore, you can imagine how excited I was to see an offering on Groupon for this place. My haul from Prime N Tender Meats included ribeye steaks, mini meatloaf, homemade breakfast sausage, several cuts of swine, and... and... I forget, really. I was robbed of most power of speech and could only point and nod and watch as items were lovingly wrapped up. Occasionally, I remembered to wipe the drool off my chin before it hit the floor. It was kinda strange, because no meat counter EVER has elicited this sort of response from me. No display case of raw meat has EVER made me so effin' HUNGRY. My stomach growled incessantly the entire time. I could have blown my entire paycheck here. Luckily, lack of freezer space kept me focused. My family has been shopping at Prime n Tender for quite a few years now (how is this the first time I'm writing a review?!) and it's our favorite butcher in the Chicagoland area. First, the staff is top notch. They always greet you with a smile and a warm hello plus they are eager to help and answer any/all questions you may have... and my mom usually has quite a few. Personally I'm not a huge meat eater but when my mom brings home their italian sausage or brats I start up the grill immediately! I'm also a huge fan of their house-made tamales and enchiladas. They have both chicken and pork and they are amazing....perfect for lunch or cook up some rice and beans and make a meal out of them for dinner. When I moved away from Chicago my mom would bring these down in a cooler when she came to visit! I like them so much because they are simple, authentic and ready to eat! Another reason I really like Prime n Tender is the wide selection of frozen foods. They have everything from mini pizzas, pot pies, soups and even some dips! After breakfast in Gateway Square, my father said "Let's grab some meat!" so a quick stop to Prime N Tender was in order. I am not a huge meat eater. I love me some good chicken and the occasional cheeseburger but that is about it. My dad, on the other hand, picked up a tenderloin. The staff happily cut it into steaks and trimmed it for him. There is a huge variety of pre-made goodies. Chicken breasts stuffed with almost anything imaginable, bacon wrapped asparagus, and these fantastic cheese-stuffed portabella. I also grabbed some cheese stuffed shells from the freezer section. From what my dad said, their prices are pretty high on the cow bits. But... he said the meat was totally worth it for that $120 tenderloin. If nothing else, the variety of pre-made deli goodies will certainly bring me back. read more
