My concern was their door-to-door marketing. As I said before, a representative came to my door and asked me if I would be interested in a roof inspection. The reason was that there was a recent windstorm (and she showed me a past weather report for my neighborhood showing a wind speed greater than 55 mph., which is the definition of a wind storm). She explained that if the roof had been damaged by a hurricane, there would be a large deductible, but if the roof is damaged by a wind storm, the deductible is much smaller. I was initially curious, and allowed her to go up on the roof. She brought back photos that she said confirmed damage. She said that her roofing company would handle all the correspondence with my insurance company, and that I would get a replacement for my 12-year old roof. I said I would think about it. I asked two other roof compainies for an inspection, and both of them said that there was no evidence that the roof needed to be replaced. One company said that the lowest six lines of shingles adjacent to the flat roof over the lanai could be replaced for loss of many of the roofing granules from foot traffic. Based on this, I decided to not replace the roof. The thought of a new roof with only a low deductible payment is might initially be attractive, but the insurance company will likely get their money back in the long run by raising my rate for making a claim. Further, it seems unethical to me. I will raise my rating from 1star to 2 star to acknowledge that the owner called me to explain things from his point of view. However, I would advise persons to be cautious of this door-to-door windstorm pitch.

The costs are high, the work is challenging and the end results are unknown. So due diligence is paramount in this quest. As it turns out, I put in the work, took several bids and made my choice. I went with Tadlock Roofing and while the result in the end was satisfactory, I can't help but think I might have done much better. I will cover the good first and then the bad. The good. The sales person was very personable, her manager was very knowledgeable and I felt at ease and comfortable. All my questions were answered and I felt confident that I could go forward with enough information to compare their product to others and make a reliable decision. The product was of good quality and promised to last a great many years. The Mexican installation crew were focused, speedy, professional, jovial and detail oriented. They worked carefully in order to limit any surrounding damage to plants and property. The post work clean up was encouraging since the ground was covered in debris and nails and I have grandkids who play out there. They were meticulous in their efforts to leave the yard safe and clean. Now, the less positive aspects. Those friendly faces that promised to be with you every step of the way, did a vanishing act. The half dozen or more documents you are forced to sign that release Tadlock of any responsibility should ANY damage be done to the home or surrounding area felt downright menacing and impart a feeling of helpless doom. A huge laundry list of things for which they would take no responsibility, a virtual cornicopia of small print to indemnify themselves was extremely worrisome. Shingle delivery workers who ignored my many many requests to spread the shingles weight on my roof for safety, downright aloof and nasty was their attitude. The delays in schedule were abundant. Leaving the heavy shingles on the roof an extra week. They left the roofing plywood on the ground in the yard to get wet from the rain for nearly a week. A dumpster sitting in the driveway an extra day. The gutter work was not even scheduled until the roof was completed for more than a week and then days went by without any contact or word regarding the installation. And remembrr those smiling faces promising to be with you every step of the way, still missing. Found out later that Mr. Tadlock sold his business to a national company that fired about 80 employees in our state and closed one or more locations. The girl who came to our house in the beginning was gone. The manager now splitting time between Tampa and Sarasota. It's all downhill from here, with all the cost cutting the company is making, the skeleton crew that is left, it would be wise to consider carefully whether you want to hire this once great company. To be fair, in the end over 2 months later I did have a new roof and gutters. It was quality product and MY installation crew was awesome. Viva Mexico. There are several crews however, you have to make sure you get a good one.

BEWARE OF JAC BUILDERS ROOFING After Hurricane Milton, I…read morehired JAC Builders Roofing to replace my roof. They quoted me $28,700, and completed the job in February 2025. From the ground, everything looked fine... until I had to climb up in July to clean out the gutters near my pool cage. That's when I discovered something shocking: They only did part of my roof. The section over the pool lanai -- which is fully attached to the house -- was completely untouched. Even worse, my old roof is tan and the new roof is black, making it painfully obvious once you're up there. How do you "replace a roof" and leave part of it off -- without telling the homeowner? ________________________________________ More Issues I Found: * While installing the new drip edge, they cut slits down the backside of the gutters, almost to the bottom of my gutters in 4 different places. * In one section, they nailed the gutter through the drip edge 3 times -- leaving two exposed holes. * Their "solution"? Someone came out and smeared caulk in the slits. That's it. The Response (Or Lack of One): I contacted Chris, the person who gave me the estimate. He tried blaming the insurance company. But let's be clear: JAC gave me the estimate (Nowhere mentioning flat section was excluded). My insurance paid the estimate -- in full. In fact, they paid $37,240, including $8,540 for two tarps that I never got to keep and my deductible. When I sent a detailed letter directly to the owner, Joshua Colon, I received no response at all. My Take: As a homeowner with no background in roofing, when I'm quoted for a full roof replacement, I expect the whole roof -- not just the parts they feel like doing. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. To say I feel misled is more accurate. Final Word: In my opinion, JAC Builders Roofing is dishonest, unprofessional, and lacks accountability. I urge fellow homeowners to think twice -- or better yet, run -- before trusting this company with your home. Don't let what happened to me happen to you.
