Prison Brews has never disappointed and is one of my go-to recommendations for family or friends that are coming in from out of town and looking for a bite to eat. They offer a wide variety of food from meaty sandwiches to tasty salads. I love getting the pretzels for an app. One of the coolest aspects of Prison Brews if of course the beer! On an average day they have 6-7 Brews they make in house. I've had a number of tap and they all taste great. Only complaint is that I wish the pours were colder. I'm a fan of very cold beer, or at least beer poured in a chilled glass. Great spot, love the patio, good food. read more

I've tried this place three times. Disappointed each time. The service was terrible all three times. It seems to be a place everyone wants to try which is how I ended up there 3 times. Ive tried the beer sampler and couldn't find one I loved. I had a pizza two times and it really lacked flavor both times. The crust was crispy and good but a pizza is more than the crust. I also had a club sandwich once. I was pretty disappointed. On our last visit it was over 90 degrees outside and the ac was down. They should have closed instead of continuing to try to serve people. We noticed it was hot when we entered but the staff didn't mention the ac was down. We didn't realize how bad it was until after we ordered our food. The waiter was sweating so bad that his sweat dripped on my husbands food as it was served. Definitely ruined our appetites. What's worse was that no one ever checked on us. We had to get up and find someone to find our server so we could get our bill. Due to the wait for our food, the poor wait staff and the unbearable heat we paid and left without complaining. We didn't see anyone that appeared to be managing the place anyway. My husband didn't touch his food and I had one bite of mine. We ended up going somewhere else just to cool off and actually eat something. read more

My girlfriend and I rushed to check this place out after driving around the lakes, we unfortunately made it inside 30min before closing and got seated right away. We felt horrible being those people and just ordered some beer, the big house IPA and go to jail ale both excellent, the staff here are so nice and friendly, they reassured us that it was perfectly fine to order food as well and suggested that the pizza would be very quick. We got the meatball/meatlovers pizza and that came out really fast and was awesome. We were absolutely amazed by the staff, the food, the beer, and the theme of the place was really cool. This place is so cool! Definitely not been to any place like it. Based on its proximity to the haunted Missouri State Penitentiary, it is prison-themed. The booths are like jail cells, and the bar is literally "barred". Aside from the really unique decor, the food and drinks are good at a reasonable price. Definitely recommended. read more

We keep giving this restaurant a chance and it continues to decline in food, beer and service. First of all the beer is flat and we had 3 different brews at our table. The hamburgers were over cooked and dry not to mention came out of the kitchen lukewarm with cold soggy fry's. The server could of cared less when we complained which we did about the beer with no responce so why try complaining about the food. We went to Prison Brews passing through Jeff City. Beer was delicious, 100%! The food however, was a little off. I was super excited to see mac and cheese listed as a "premium side" on the menu. I asked the waiter if it was good, and he said yes, so I took a gamble and decided to pay the extra $2.25 to upgrade. When my meal arrived, I received a bowl of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese with some cheddar sprinkled on it. I asked the waiter if this was from the blue box and he said, "no, it's actually the little microwavable cups." I expressed my frustration and sadness with this "premium side" but his response was, "it's still pretty good". Major disappointment. The rest of the food was decent but fair warning- don't be deceived by the "premium mac and cheese" unless you want to pay $2.25 extra for a lil' Kraft cup. read more

Wasn't here for long but I loved the experience! I came in with a group of girls for the first time tonight and we sat on the patio. It was a great patio to just sit outside and relax. They also have a bocce ball court which I thought was cool, they also serve food and have a full bar! So this place definitely caters to lots of people. Loved the way they had the booths labeled/set up like jail cells, it was cute and very creative. The service was very good, the only tiny issue I had was that my beer was a little warm but I will definitely be returning next time I'm in town! read more

I have always enjoyed the food. But the staff today was completely unprofessional. We came in with a party of 5 and at first they told us they would not have any tables due to reservations. (We have been here when it was much busier no parking available, tonight the parking lot was almost empty.) They said all the open tables were reserved and the hostess was basically trying to convince us to leave. So we asked if the entire restaurant was reserved and she told us we could sit outside or wait for 30 min (which is fine, but only after we asked if it was the whole restaurant.) Each other customers that came while we wait (2 couples) were seated immediately but other groups were also almost discouraged to come at all. Like the second they walked through the door yelling guys there is going to be a huge wait. Then as it turns out the two parties with reservations 40 min after arrived and 50 min after we arrived showed up 40 min early and worked to try and seat them, while we were still standing there. I have done food service and usually do not post neg reviews but we clearly were a huge inconvenience to them. A server also came right to we're we waiting and yelled about another server calling in so now she was going to have to close. I get it, I have been there, it stinks, but you work through it and stay professional. read more

The place seems really nice on the inside. They have Bocce Ball in the outdoor area. We had planned on having breakfast and spending the afternoon there. However, we walked in just a few minutes before 11am on a Sunday for breakfast, and they told they would not serve us breakfast because they stopped at 11am. I understand places have to have time limits on menus and such, but 11am seems a bit early for a Sunday. Then to have absolutely no flexibility when we walked in just before 11am was a bit off-putting. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

Stopped in for lunch after a Tour of MSP. The server Ryan was friendly, the food was great (Steak Sandwich, Pulled Pork Pizza), we enjoyed the Micro Sampler. Everything was great until I see my account and seen that another $1.00 was deducted from my account over the bill and tip that I left. It was only a Dollar but it is still theft! Had a group outing here for a party size of 15 people. Appetizers were good especially the fried green beans! Had the Buffalo Chicken wrap it it was excellent!! Chicken was tender with just the right amount of sauce. The service was prompt and accurate and the server was able to split the orders into 15 different checks without any confusion. We stopped in for a late lunch and some beers on a Saturday afternoon. The vibe inside is cool- jailhouse bars separate the restaurant from the bar with concrete floors and edison bulb lighting. It's dark, but not too dark. We chose to eat on the covered patio in the back where there are two bocce courts. My SO and I split a prime rib sandwich (surprisingly good!) and each ordered the flight. We didn't realize the flights were 7oz pours- 49 ounces of beer!! Some of the beers were better than others, but overall it was more than I expected from a tiny town like Jefferson City. The bocce courts out back are great too, although they won't let your children play. Apparently its an insurance issue. read more

Nice historic place to grab a pizza with friends. Brews their own beer so be prepared for tasting before deciding. The one thing I can vouch is the green bean fries, one of the only places in Jeff offering these, and not too bad at that. Location is a little sketch, and definitely more seating than staff can accomodate, so bear this in mind, as waiting could be what you're doing given the time of visit. read more

Pretty solid brew pub in Jefferson City. It was busy the entire time we were there so must be a good sign! Lots to choose from--standard grill fare like sandwiches, salads, apps, burgers. After leaving a nice tip for service that was just okay I find that the card I used to pay for my meal has been compromised...not even 15 minutes after leaving, someone had run up nearly $600 in online purchases. Food was pretty good. But service was HORRIBLE. When your waiter asks you if you need anything else when they deliver your food and you say "yes may I get some mayonnaise " and he never comes back with it......wow But then when he shows back up and asks if he can get refills for your drink and you say yes, thank you. And then he NEVER returns with refills, or the check. Something is WRONG! We know he was still working because he brought food to the table behind us, and then tea refills to the table to our right. NO not excepting this. Get take out here. Service must be better. read more

This is a beer only review as I did not eat their food. Visited this place after touring the Missouri State Penitentiary. It's a pretty neat bar with a nice patio. Prison Brews actually brews some of the beers they offer in house, so of course I had to try one. I decided to have a tasty of their Maximum Sentence IPA and I was not disappointed. It is hands down one of the best IPAs I have ever had. I also was a big fan of their prices...can't really beat $4 for a glass of beer. The bartender was really friendly and I was very pleased with their selection of beers. read more
