Came here with the family for lunch and we do not regret it. Brick oven pizza was delicious and didn't take long to get. It was nice and hot and the cheese stretched for miles, so good! Inside, it's really something anyone should explore. You really get the prison feel with the photos and decor. Services was great, everyone was nice and friendly. We ordered two pizzas (they're about 12" or the size of a frozen pizza). Not very expensive and it's brick oven so you get a real good flavor compared to oven pizza. It's definitely a place someone who's visits should check out, I'd strongly consider taking my friends or family who are out-of-towners to this place. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip and that was very good. Lots of chips and everything was warm. We didn't order drinks this time but we'll definitely do that next time we're kid-free. I hate leaving bad reviews... but this was such a huge bummer, and I so wanted to like this place! I'll preface it with the note that this was the afternoon of the total solar eclipse a few days ago, so they were probably busier than a typical Monday afternoon--but you'd think they would have planned for that and staffed up?! Anyway, we were camping in Missouri with our dogs so after the eclipse my boyfriend and I decided to get food somewhere to go and take it to a park... and we love to support local breweries so this place sounded perfect. The beer was pretty good (we sampled a couple while we waited and also brought three crowlers home), but our takeout food order took FOR. EV. ER. I didn't actually keep track of time but it had to have been at least 45 minutes... for a fish sandwich and a prime rib sandwich! (I wish I had ordered the pizza... their pizza oven looked cool.) Additionally, when I placed the order the bartender asked me how I wanted the prime rib cooked... which threw me off because I've never known prime rib on a sandwich to be cooked to order, so I just said, "uh, however you normally do it?" It was seriously awful--the beef had big chunks of fat and gristle I couldn't even bite through and the whole thing was overcooked. In addition, after the food was ready it sat around for a while (my boyfriend actually saw the to-go containers stacked in the kitchen and had to wave down the bartender and ask him to check and see if they were ours) so the bread that was on the bottom was disgustingly soggy and falling apart. The whole thing was just gross and tragic and I could barely eat any of it--and I LOVE food and am not a picky eater by any means. Thankfully I had mac and cheese as a side, and that was pretty tasty (and thankfully not the Kraft version another reviewer was given!), otherwise I wouldn't have had a lunch even after the brutal wait! I'm hoping we just caught them at a really bad time... but if we end up in Jefferson City again I think I'm too traumatized to go back! read more

Excellent beers, except the smoked porter was over the top smokey. Beer bread is good. Meat lovers pizza was excellent. Not too busy for a Saturday night. Glad we ate and tried new beers here. Certainly will return if nearby again. read more

It's a little pricy, but it's so worth it! Each time I have been there the food has been correct and hot and fresh. The staff is always friendly and listen to everything that their customers say. The variety of brews is amazing, and for the kids the homemade root beer is a great choice. I wish I could go more often, but it's a special occasion place. This place has been one of favorite places in Jeff City for the last 6 years. We walked in the back door tonight. We were rudely greeted by the hostess. She asked if we had reservations which have never had to have here. Once I told her no she then stated that it was homecoming and good luck getting in anywhere. My party of 5 then walked out. We were out in the back lot for 5 minutes before I went back in to ask about a wait time would be for us and a different person sat us right away. I went out and told my party that we were being seated. They asked how I got seated I then stated that the hostess didn't know what was going on. By this time she was outside and heard me and started mouthing me about she does know her job and that she came looking for out party with was a lie. She never came out looking for us. She kept going on mouthing about how i was just running my mouth this is where I told her to keep her mouth shut and stop mouthing. I then talked to the manager about this and he told me it would be handled. Not sure I will be coming back for a long while. Sad that people in the service industry think they have the right to talk to and lie to customers that way. She ran into the wrong one today. read more

I was driving through this town randomly when we came across this spot. It did not disappoint. We were seated very quickly the service was nice. I ordered the sampler beers and it was great! Really nice flavor infusions. To eat I ordered the steak and cheese sandwich and my husband has the applewood bacon burger, both cooked to perfection. It's about a 3 hour drive from where I live but I will most defiantly be back when going to Missouri. read more

Prison Brews was an unexpected surprise! The waitress was FANTASTIC. She kept pur drinks full, brought extra ice for our tea before we even realized we needed and brought crayons and a color nook out for our kiddos. The foid was good, fresh and quick. The manager was visible and checked on tables as well as helped expedite in the kitchen when needed. The restrooms were clean. We live about an hour away, but we will definitely be back again. Hopefully next time we can try the beers! read more

We went here for dinner with some friends from out of town last night. Very fine experience and wonderful atmosphere and food. It's a very unique experience and the menu is very good. I had a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich (so moist and delicious) my wife had the grilled salmon (cooked on a wood grill or so it tasted) and our friends got a pizza and prime rib sandwich. We got two beer sampler flights and some appetizers. The experience was amazing and everything was delicious. I highly recommend that if you are in the Jefferson City area you try it. The pizzas are delicious and are cooked in a brick oven. Fantastic job guys! read more

Good place to watch the game. The beer is pretty good and the food is good too. They have an Australian Pale Ale which is really good and I don't particularly choose to drink Pale Ales. It was quiet on a Monday. I'm disappointed that I didn't order a pizza because I was at the end of the bar that was in clear view of the pizza oven and the pizzas they were pulling out of there looked legit. I have eaten here before while riding the Katy Trail. I came back this evening expecting to enjoy a few brews and wings. After being seated, as soon as my food was served, employees started breaking down, spraying cleansers all around me, putting chairs on the table tops, yelling at each other as if there was not a customer in the room. No fewer than a dozen employees bumped by chair hard while yelling and running around getting ready for an employee meeting. In Jeff City for the weekend and love to visit microbreweries so stopped by in late afternoon on a Saturday for late lunch/early dinner. Love the inside design concept of barred prison cells. Outside there is a nice large patio for warmer weather with some of it under cover with fans and there are 2 boccie courts with lights next to the patio. We shared a beer flight - each 7 oz/larger than normal! We shared a yummy Greek pizza. Staff was friendly but service was a bit slow initially but once we got our beer flight, service picked up. Pizza had lots of toppings and was very tasty. Limited beer choices but we found ones we liked and all were good. Would recommend. read more

The food is sub-par. The two times I've gone the burgers were bland. A lot of people go there for the Bocce ball courts and tournaments. I'll pass. The home brewed beer isn't much.The service is total crap; be prepared to wait a long time and get cold or burnt food. I give this restaurant overall 4 stars. The food was good, but not excellent. The service was great! My rueben was over dressed causing extremely soggy bread. My sweet potato fries were over seasoned with the sweet seasoning and were not crunchy even brought to the table. The beer cheese was over powered with a spice flavor (maybe jalapenos) making the beer disappear. The chipotle ketchup really kind of tasted line ketchup with siracha and maybe a liquid or paste chipotle...not eBay I expected to compliment the fries. Despite all of this, the ambiance and the freshness of the food combined with great service Erik keep me going back to try new things on their menu. I've always enjoyed this restaurant.
