A popular spot and I can understand why. It's an unusual theme for a restaurant, can border on the creepy, but once you get past that, you'll find some good food and nice people. I stopped for a late lunch one day and found it nearly deserted. I was fully expecting the one employee who approached to tell me they were closed or closing until the evening, but instead she led me to my table, took my order without even a hint of being bothered. Shortly thereafter, she stopped by my table to tell me her shift was ending and introduce me to the person who would be taking over. I appreciated that consideration. As I waited for my order, I took note of the booths with brick wall accent decorated with cell bars and cell numbers above, the cell/jailhouse bars around the bar area, the menu of microbrews on tap carrying names that keep with the theme. I could see this being a go-to place for Halloween parties. I ordered a special, a brisket sandwich with their house made bbq sauce. I'm torn on this -- the meat was good, tender and flavorful just as brisket should be, the roll it was served on was good, the bbq sauce had just a hint of being a day past its prime, though. I still ate it, scraping around the sauce where possible. I chose the sweet potato fries as a side and was not disappointed. They were so good I could have ordered more. They were served with a side of cinnamon icing/dipping sauce that was very light on the cinnamon taste but allowed control over the level of sweet. It wasn't needed for my preference but was a nice touch. Overall, I'd like to try this place again.

Not a bad spot for a quick meal! Our server was fast and friendly. I got the sweet potato fries and was surprised they had cinnamon all over them, so heads up there! I'm more of a salt girl. I enjoyed my sandwich, and the stuffed potatoes were unique! Not life changing, but good!

One of the highlights in Jefferson City is the prison and this isn't it. This is a prison-themed restaurant and brewery and it's a couple of blocks away from the Missouri State Penitentiary Museum. With tables set up to look like jail cells and beers named "Go To Jail Ale" and "Deathrow Oatmeal Stout," they go all in. At 8pm, my friend and I popped in for our last drink of the day here. I chose the "I Ain't Your Honey Wheat" which was quite tasty for a pale wheat. Our waitress stopped in often to ensure we had what we needed and all was well. With all that beer, I had to check the restroom... clean. [Review 19754 overall - 231 in Missouri - 726 of 2023.]

We had a birthday lunch at Prison Brews before exploring the rest of downtown Jeff City. The food was delicious and there was something on the menu for everyone. Top favorites at the table: supreme pizza, pulled pork sandwich, and the bratwurst. We also enjoyed the nachos and onion ring appetizers at our big table. Service was great! The food took a while to come out but we came at a very busy time and the food still tasted amazing. The entire place is decked out in prison decorations/themes. There is plenty of seating inside of the building as well as outside on the patio. They even have a couple fire pits and a bocce ball court! You must visit this restaurant if you are planning on going on the prison tour. Highly recommend order the Prison Brews draft..tasty!

Nice concept for the atmosphere. About to dig into the food but looks good so far. Food came out fairly quick for a big party like ours. The server has been pretty nice and attentive to our party. The pizza could have been cooked longer but it's tasty. The wings are good as well.

I am super into a theme to the extreme when it comes to a independent business- this place was right in all the ways that make kitschy cool! The brewery selections were great- the food was vegetarian friendly and I was very pleased with the service too! I don't make it to Jeff City that often, but when I do- I am adding this to my must visit and drink a pint or two places!

The food was tasty and the prices were SO reasonable. The decor is themed, and fun. Location was so convenient for the penitentiary tour.

Great place to get beers and appetizers and hang out. They make their own rootbeer. Highly recommend the Warden's Buffalo Dip.

But, inside you'll find a warm friendly bar, a basic restaurant area off to the side, very friendly staff and excellent food. You can sit and enjoy a fresh poured Irish beer out of a tap, excellent Irish pub food all while browsing through one of the Irish books on a shelf in the restaurant. Parked on street saw they had a busy beer garden out back but only went to the bar. Got bangers and mash. It was awesome. Two big brats, kraut, onion gravy. Like 2 lbs of mashed potatoes and huge portion of mushy peas. All of it was awesome. Got a cup of chili it was very good as well. Paired with a black and tan and noticed they had a great selection of Irish beers. Bartenders were nice and personable. Service was good and quick and would highly reccomend it to anyone. Planned to go back for fish and chips but ended up eating at my hotel which was a mistake. Be back in August so I'll be back again!

It's the kind of joint where the atmosphere is thicker than a Sunday morning fog and the hospitality is warmer than a radiator in July. Since we're right there in the shadow of the fort, you'll find yourself rubbing elbows with all sorts of folks. They say you ought to eat where the locals eat, but in a military town, "local" is a relative term--most everybody there is from somewhere else, and they're all just passing through on Uncle Sam's dime. But at Hopper's, for an hour or two, everybody's treated like they grew up right down the street. If f you're looking for a cold beer, Hopper's has their own house brew on tap that's colder than a mother-in-law's stare. It's a sports bar in the truest sense--wall-to-wall TV screens making sure you don't miss a single down or a checkered flag. When there's a car show in town or a big game on, the place gets livelier than a porch dog with a new bone. Speaking of dogs there is a semi-permanent guest that stops by name of Norman. Pet him and you will have a friend for life. They aren't feeding birds here, friend. We're talking Burgers and fries of with tons of flavor. Sliders, cheesesteaks and wings, make sure you got extra napkins. I am not sure why but I think he also have vegetarian options. The staff is politer than a deacon on Sunday. They're attentive, friendly, and they treat travelers like they've lived in Waynesville their whole lives. Keep in mind they are pumping out a ton of adult beverages and food. A cold beer and a good burger are worth a five minute wait. Whether you're just passing through or you're a "local" who's only been in town since your last PCS, Hopper's is a solid bet for a good time and a full belly. It's family-friendly, high-energy, and highly recommended. And if you happen to be there when they break out the Bingo, hold onto your hat. They've got a unique set of calls and responses that'll frighten and amaze you the first time you hear 'em--it's somewhere between a drill sergeant's cadence and a tent revival, and it's worth the price of admission just to witness the spectacle.
