After much online research, calls and conversations, we landed on Hunter Douglas Shades, these are super high quality. These are not inexpensive but in reality, you DO get what you pay for and spending a little more to get this quality feels and looks really good. In our previous home, we used another local vendor that made many mistakes and seemed to never measure correctly, which caused issues and problems, so this time we wanted to find a new vendor. After a few attempts to get information and estimates, we landed on Steve the Drapery Guy and things went really well. Once you make some decisions and decide to order, they have a Professional Installer/Contractor who personally comes out to re-measure and review everything a 2nd time and this is a VERY important step, if nothing else, to double check and fine tune the order before it's placed. In the end, everything really went well and if i had to do it again, i would not hesitate to choose or recommend this business. We've previously tried some others and cannot say the same. The saga started November '24 when the 25% Black Friday discount offered some pricing relief. We…read moreordered 9 shades, 4 roman and 5 solar shades. They were delivered early February. The Roman shades were a disaster - see the pictures rolled up. The refrain was "they will eventually develop memory and not look like that rolled up." No such thing. They did not look that great rolled down either as the wrinkles remained. And to put salt on the wound, one of the four roman shades malfunctioned within a few weeks. The "Customer Experience Manager" wrote one email saying they will replace them. And it took many emails to get one back. I am reluctant to give them credit for agreeing to replace them but given how bad they looked, cannot imagine any customer being satisfied. So we ended up with regular vinyl shades which are not ideal in a set of south facing windows as they get very hot and also have no insulating properties. And, roller shades cost about 20-25% less than roman shades, but they actually wanted to charge us extra for the downgrade - and did I mention we had a 25% discount which evaporated? And the 5 solar roller shades in the bathroom - they are the highest grade of solar shade they offer and all I can say they do a worse job in keeping the heat out than the 20 year old natural fiber shades we discarded. The moral of the story - the Shade Store is living off a legacy reputation that it can no longer support. Maybe it is because they were sold to a PE firm? The Shade Store is not worth the price premium.

When we were finally helped, the guy was polite and like oh well since you're only interested in those and pulled these books out the back (like old crates lol) which were the different colors and material types of vertical blinds they have (limited). There wasn't much conversation /education on the vertical blinds and no options or advice outside the couple books we'd been presented. If you are a homeowner looking to do some plantation shutters, etc. and spend a lot of money, this maybe the spot for you. During the initial visit they came out to take measurements. I let the employee know that I specifically wanted the mid rail of my shutters to line up with the mid rail of my windows (they are the type that slide up to open) so he took extra care to make sure everything matched up. A few weeks later they returned to install the shutters. I've had them for about a year now. I recently called them for a warranty repair (a couple of the frames were rubbing together, likely due to settlement) and they came out within a week and fixed them free of charge. Overall just a very solid experience. They're a responsive, no hassle company and their products are well priced and good quality.
