I was a homeowner a few times during this time also I am very aware of the responsibilities of an owner and as a renter. Roberts client, and defacto mother/tenant have made it nearly impossible for Robert to have managed my tenancy properly. I want to believe, given the appropriate opportunity, I would have experienced a more favorable outcome. Robert, to my knowledge, has not been directly involved in the nefarious actions of his clients. The turning off of my heat and hot water on several occasions in the past month. The hiding of my trash cans. The theft of my mail and subsequent use of my bankcard by a family member. The constant harassment, verbal assaults, physical threats and finally lying regarding my exclusive use of a patio and then in retaliation, excluding it as a punishment. I believe Robert was acting in good faith regarding his client. However I have and continue to suffer greatly at the hands of his client. I can only close my eyes, click my heels together 3 times and repeat, "there's no place like home," and hope a house falls on top of his client. After moving out of the unit at 3951-3056 Howard Ave in Los Alamitos, I completed a walkthrough where I was told I would not be charged for cleaning. The apartment was completely emptied out -- it's a very small 2-bedroom, 1-bath unit with no garage after the property removed garages to build ADUs. Despite this, they are now attempting to withhold my security deposit with questionable charges such as "junk removal" and cleaning fees. It is now day 22, and I still have not received my deposit back or adequate communication. Multiple calls and emails have gone unanswered. On top of that, tenants had to deal with ongoing construction, parking issues, maintenance problems, and constant disruptions while living there. At this point, I am preparing to pursue the matter in small claims court due to what I believe is bad-faith withholding of my deposit. I recommend future renters document everything carefully and know their tenant rights before renting here.
