Before you have your car detailed, be sure it is completely empty of all personal belongings or that portion of the car will not be touched.

Maguire isn't a dealership. It's a lead-farming operation disguised as a dealership…read more I called ahead to ask about a test drive and was told, "Just come in." No name, no appointment needed. When we arrived, there was no receptionist, no welcome, no engagement--just a showroom full of sales staff glued to screens. No one looked up. It felt like walking through the Borg Collective--if you're not pre-scanned or tagged by their system, you don't exist. Eventually, I politely asked a salesperson (who was texting at her desk) if anyone could help us. She scolded me for interrupting her texting. Not a joke. When someone finally did help us, she launched into a checklist-style interrogation--what trim? who did you speak to? how much can you afford?--before even offering a test drive. She actually said: "We just want to make sure that if you fall in love with the car, you can afford it." I half expected her to hand me a feather boa and call me Vivian from Pretty Woman. I told her we'd already done the research, knew what we wanted, and just needed to sit in the vehicle and drive it. She didn't like that. We didn't fit the script. She got visibly irritated, tried to talk us out of test driving more than one trim, then left the desk without a word. Just walked away. We left. Later, a "manager" called. She sounded young, inexperienced, and totally unaware of what went wrong. She defended everything, including the texting salesperson, saying I had interrupted her. Her version of an apology was an excuse. They don't see a problem because they don't care. Their whole model is built around trolling the internet for leads and jamming people into a rigid, impersonal sales system. If you don't cooperate with their funnel, you're not worth their time. Maguire isn't set up to sell cars to people--they're set up to mine online clicks and process you like data. They're not interested in relationships, needs, or experience. They're fishing for suckers, not building trust.

WOMEN AND GIRLFRIENDS WATCH OUT…read more.. I had an experience with RJ WEST that works at that dealership, we saw each other for two weeks and then he bailed out. I started seeing someone that he knew of because he worked there years ago. My new man brought his truck there for servicing to get more oil put into his truck it took forty-five minutes for it to be done, in that time he had an employee place TWO AIR TAGS, and FOUR GPS TRACKERS in his truck for a solid two weeks RJ was stalking the man i am dating. There have been several other instances that he has gotten away with major inappropriate behavior while an employee there. He has been known to sleep with women on test drives, and majority of the time most of this gets swept under the rug and kept quiet. This employee is now facing suspension and there isn't a guarantee of him being terminated. Standing up for the women in the world that will be vulnerable if they end up on a 1 on 1 situation with him. Take your business elsewhere or ask for a different guy if you end up with him.

I…read morebrought my Subaru to Maguire this week to get one of the seat belts fixed, because its was twisted and stuck. The person at Maguire told me they could fix the seatbelt, but they also recommended that I change out the air filters. I knew the air filters were unnecessary, because I just had the car inspected at Midas, and they didn't mention anything about the filters. But the Maguire people said they would do it all (seatbelt + filters) for $135, so I figured it was worth it just to get it fixed and get out of there. I made sure to confirm the price, saying, "$135 for everything?" The person confirmed, "$135 total." Here is what they ended up charging me: Labor to untwist the seat belt: $100 Cabin air filter: $32.35 Labor to replace cabin air filter: $45 Engine air filter: $36.25 Labor to replace engine air filter: $40 Total, including tax: $273.78 Is it unreasonable to assume that "total" includes the price of labor? It felt very dishonest to me. I'm giving two stars instead of one, because they did fix the seat belt at least, which Midas wasn't able to do.

You bring your car for a 9 AM appointment, the car is not done by noon. And this is just routine maintenance, not rebuilding the engine or something. Maybe it makes sense to drive to Syracuse...

I'd be…read moredriving along when my vehicle would suddenly shift from Drive into 2nd gear (or sometimes Neutral). Within a day or two, I had an appointment with my main auto mechanic, but they advised that my make/model of car has a closed transmission and I'd need to take my car to a dealership. It would have taken more than 4 weeks to get my Hyundai into Simmons-Rockwell Hyundai in Elmira, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it all the way back to Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse (where I originally bought the car). I (begrudgingly) made an appointment with Maguire Hyundai of Ithaca because I was able to have my appointment quickly. I dropped my car off in the parking lot of Maguire Hyundai on the day of my appointment and went inside to leave my keys and have final discussions about the issue my car was experiencing, as well as the 2 recent recalls I wanted to have tended to. I specifically asked them to *call me* with a result of transmission diagnostic testing AND what they were thinking after a test-drive of the car... ... but I never got a call about the results of either. Instead, I got a call a couple hours after dropping my car off saying the car was done and could be picked up. Um, no? That's not how this works, because I was very clear with what I asked for and that didn't happen. I asked to speak to a service manager so I could get more details on results of testing. When I was finally able to get someone on the phone, I was told nothing came up on the diagnostic testing and they couldn't get the issue to replicate, so they didn't do anything. Given that I had experienced the issue twice in the short drive from where I had been staying to the Maguire Hyundai location, that wasn't a sufficient response for me. I had done some additional research, and had come up with a couple possibilities of what was likely given what I had been experiencing... including issues that would be fixed with a transmission flush / new fluid (something that especially made sense, given I had never had the fluid changed and it *is* a closed system). I was told they would try and get it done before the end of the workday, but it would be ready by 10am the next morning at the latest... and they'd call when it was ready. Cut to the next day, and no call by 10am. No call by noon. No call by 2pm. I called, but got no call back. I hopped onto their website and chatted with a customer service rep via their messaging system and asked for a call about my car... nothing. Finally, I drove a friend's car down to the dealership from where I'd been staying, and I was told my car would be ready within an hour. I go back to the house, pick up my friend who will drive their own car back when I'm picking up mine, and we head back down to Maguire Hyundai. I get BACK down to Maguire Hyundai and I'm told that oops... your car won't be able to be picked up until morning. After a transmission flush, the dealership wants to let it sit for a bit and then test drive it to ensure all is well. Okay, BUT WHY DID YOU TELL ME MY CAR WOULD BE DONE WITHIN AN HOUR? I head back out without my car, but a promise from the dealership that it'll be ready for pick-up by 10am the next day. The next day, they actually call me back by 10am (9:52am, to be exact), and they tell me that my car is ready. I head down, pay, pick up my car, and head out on my way... relieved to finally be done with the experience. The big takeaway from my experience with Maguire Hyundai? The communication - whether between team members at the dealership (service counter and mechanics, etc), or service team members and customers - needs a LOT of work. Like, A LOT. Also, my car would not have been properly tended to without my pushing for it and specifically asking them to take additional steps. The fact that I initially got a flippant "your car is ready" - when I was very specific about the issue and what I wanted - isn't something I consider acceptable. TL;DR Giving 2 stars instead of just 1 because the issue DID get fixed, even though I needed to be assertive with what I wanted done / checked. The entire experience was way more to deal with than it should have been... and again, communication needs major improvement.

I'm not 12 years old. This was not my first car, nor was it my first decade of driving. Anyway, I test-drove a Jetta. (This location has VWs as well as Toyotas.) I couldn't tell you what color the it was, although it did handle very nicely. A sales associate rode along during the test drive and told me repeatedly what a great job I was doing at turning left across traffic and thinking to test the brakes on the car I was test-driving. I would like to once again emphasize that I'm an adult, with a driver's license, which you'd think would have been obvious to this sales associate. It's also worth nothing that I'd told him truthfully that I was looking for a replacement for the Jetta I'd already driven for 150k miles. When I said I wasn't sure looking to make a purchase that day, the sales associate said "is there anything we can do to win your heart, honey?" and -- when I continued to refuse -- added something about car buying being an "irrational decision." The 2023 Jetta did impress me, which is why I drove 90 minutes to the VW in Vestal and bought one there. Funny enough, this is almost exactly what happened in 2013. I test-drove a Jetta at Maguire, had a sales associate who only spoke to the male friend who had given me a ride to the dealership (even after my friend repeatedly tried to leave the conversation), and drove all the way to Rochester to buy the car I wanted from a sales team I actually trusted. Anyway, the 2023 Jetta's a great car: nice handling, excellent balance of torque and efficiency, and extremely safe without sacrificing a sporty feel. Buy one in Syracuse, if you're in the market.
