What surprised me about Dr. Sahgal was that she seemed to take a genuine interest in my progress and well-being. Her waiting room is always full, but she didn't treat me like a number nor ever rush me. She treated me with compassion, empathy and care, and she really listened. I expect that from a psychologist but not a psychiatrist. She seems to see a lot of children and teens. Her office and staff at the Torrance location are very basic. Dr. Priti discontinued my medication when I needed a refill. This caused a disruption in my daily affairs. I have been treated successfully for ADHD for the past 20 years. I have never had a doctor refuse to refill my prescription. This is detrimental for someone with ADHD. Very disappointed. read more

Dr. Sahgal has helped me tremendously. She accurately found me the right medication and has helped me improve my lifestyle as well as what I had came in for. She has never cancelled on me and listens attentively to everything I have to say. I've never experienced rude people in the front office; they are very nice and understanding, they will also fit me in when I forget to make an appointment! I was a patient of Dr. Sahgal from 2018-2019. Getting to work with other psychiatrists after leaving this office was an eye opener onto how truly unprofessional and poorly this office is run. Whilst receiving treatment there, I had maybe 5 appointments. Each appointment I showed up 15 minutes early, as directed. There was not once I walked into an appointment and wasn't forced to wait a minimum of 2 hours to be seen. This over scheduling on the offices part was so consistent to the point that I began to expect to walk into a waiting room filled to the brim with double the amount of angry & waiting patients than there were chairs. All seats filled, children and adults sitting on the floor, and the visibly angry people that were forced to stand. The way that I would, without fault, walk into a waiting room filled with drained individuals who had been there for hours, was normal in this office. I thank god every time I see a psychiatrist now that I am not forced to deal with that chaos and waste my time just to simply refill a prescription that I require. Now, years down the road, my current practitioner has requested records from Dr. Sahgals office regarding my ADD. It was a week ago that these records were requested, and with no response to me or my current doctor, I called Dr. Sahgals office to see what was going on. After calling the crenshaw office 5 times and receiving nothing but a dialtone, called the Los Alamitos office and spoke with a woman who apologized for the delay and said I would have my records by the end of day and someone would call to reach out to me. Obviously, that never happened. So, I was finally able to get through to the Crenshaw office today. I let the woman on the phone know what was happening and that the lady I spoke with yesterday said I should've had my records by yesterday. She chose to only respond by correcting me (I told her the office I called was in Norwalk, she was kind enough to let me know it was in Los Alamitos, though I failed to see how out of all of this the location of the specific city of the office was the issue, just generally snide and unhelpful) Then, she informed me that my records would take up to 3 weeks to transfer. As a college student in the middle of midterms and in need of ADD medication, this was a huge blow. Considering the fact that I had been told I should already have my records by someone in their Los Alamitos office, to then go to the receptionist in the Crenshaw office to tell me it would be 3 weeks from the date of my phone call even when the records had been requested a week ago? All this does is prove once again the lack of professionalism and sense of urgency in this office. What a place to get "help" for your mental health. Note: also think it's important to note that Sahgal put me on an insane cocktail of drugs for a 17 year old at the time. She switched me from 30mg of vyvanse to 40 within a month, when that started to lose effect she prescribed me 15mg of adderall to take around mid day. When I quite predictably couldn't sleep as a result, she prescribed me Xanax to help me sleep at night. Never even filled the prescription, as a 17 year old I even thought it was too much. read more

I'm 17 and have talked to Dr. Sahgal one time a few months ago to discuss depression and anxiety medication. she talked to me for about 10 minutes after making me wait 30 just to connect the call and prescribed a completely unnecessary medication to me which i never ended up taking. I had a follow up appointment for today to discuss other medication that i had been on and was in the online waiting room with my mom for over 45 minutes. we tried calling their office and it went straight to voicemail every time, after about 10 failed calls we gave up. this appointment was made over a month ago and my mom and i now have to find another local psychiatrist. read more

I like Dr. Sahgal but I think her staff in Torrance are hustlers. The office hours is trickey and questionable. No one ever answers the phone. I am so suprised. Dr. Sahgal is a good doctor. Dr. Sahgal offered to complete disability documents for my daughter. Due to Dr, Sahgal schedule, vacations, and unexpected events . It took almost two months for the documents to be completed. We tried several times to pick up the documents but no one never answer the door during office hours and most of time did not answer the phone. After several phone calls and visits to the office someone met us at the door and told me I would have to pay $60.00 cash to them directly before they could give me the documents signed by the doctor. If I did not have $60.00 then give them something, $20.00 would work. I explained I did not have the money but could pay in a week. The staff memeber refuse to give me the documents even tried to give a different blank document. I got so mad and left. No One in the office or Dr. Sahgal told us it would be a fee of $60 .00 for thr doctor to complete the forms. Hustlers!!!!! As of today we do not have the documents and my daughter has been a patient of Dr. Sahgal off and on for 10 years at the los Amotis office. What is really going on ?! read more

I wish I had read these reviews before I booked. My pediatrician had recommended my family switch to Dr Sahgal. Ours was often late or wouldn't meet people in person. We had an appointment booked a few weeks ago and then when I checked on it, they said they had tried to call me to tell me it was cancelled. I asked what number they had called and they didn't know. So we rescheduled for today. We showed up today after getting my daughter out of high school for a 1pm appointment. We got there early and were greeted by a sign saying they were out to lunch and wouldn't be back until 1pm. At 1:05 they finally opened the door. We were asked to sit down and then the office staff chastised us saying they tried to call us and oh by the way we didn't send in the paperwork, so we couldn't be seen. Then they said that she hadn't come to work today. I told them to write down the number to show me what number they called. It was not our phone number. We had sent in the paperwork weeks ago for the first appointment they cancelled. There is something really wrong going on here. Shame on this office for demoralizing folks just trying to take care of their mental health. I felt awful for my daughter and it will now take several months to get a referral and appointment set up. read more

I've seen Dr. Sahgal for about eight years, and I brought my mom in to see her, too. Keep in mind when reading this review: I am a psychiatric social worker. I have worked in psych hospitals for many years, and I've worked closely with 25+ psychiatrists as a mental health clinician. I have never -- NEVER -- found a better psychiatrist than her. Yes, the wait time can be annoying. Yes, sometimes the office staff doesn't return calls (although if you ask for Marissa, she is AMAZING!). Yes, she has cancelled appointments when she's had a family emergency. But trust me -- she is worth it. After taking my mom to several psychiatrists and seeing her continue to get worse, I finally got her in with Sahgal. The care, attention, and precision with which she treated my mom (and me) are unmatched. Within a few months, my mom went from barely functioning to stable and productive. With every appointment, this doctor is attentive and spends time with you (which is probably why she's late sometimes). She is genuinely concerned about your well-being and makes changes when needed. She also knows that I have an addiction history, and she takes that into consideration and avoids addictive medications for me. After seeing so many psychiatrists -- both as a patient and as a clinician -- I can confidently say that you will be in great hands with this doctor. If you're looking for a quick RX for Xanax, this is not the place to go -- but then again, if that's all you're looking for, then you probably SHOULD see her for medication management and an addiction treatment referral. She is the best I've found -- and, in my job, I've seen more than most people ever will. read more

Having much difficulty getting a psychiatrist for my daughter I finally found Sahgal. Unfortunately the only next available appointment was for 5-6 weeks out. I accepted the appointment and moved on with life. 2 days before the scheduled appointment I call the office to confirm address and copay information and I'm told there is no way I could have an appointment that day as the Dr is not in the office. I am then put on hold only to be told that they don't even have a record of us at all. DO NOT GO HERE. I have read several horrible reviews so perhaps we are lucky it didn't work out after all. read more

My daughter was referred to Dr. Sahgal by a therapist and we are so disappointed. The very first office visit was only a 10 min conversation in which she then prescribed medication. After three weeks to see if the medication was making a difference, we waited over an hour and Dr. Priti was in the room with her for 2 min. Saying to make an appointment in three months. This is a hard step for anyone to take deciding to see a doctor, and then to be treated so insignificantly is a real blow. We will not be returning. read more

I understand the negative reviews, but in my experience, the good outweighs the bad. I brought my teenage daughter to Dr. Sahgal because she was virtually the only psychiatrist on my insurance who sees adolescents. She first saw us together, then had me leave so she could speak privately with my daughter, which is a good idea with teens. She's a woman of few words, but seemed competent and most importantly, my daughter liked her. We've since started seeing her assistant Roy, who is more openly warm and caring and more talkative. The negatives: It's a blah office in a dingy building, though parking is free and plentiful. They are unwilling to work by phone with your pharmacy -- it's paper prescriptions at the time of the appointment only. Also, the doctor flatly refuses phone conferences and her appointment schedule is very tight. As for the office staff, the more friendly person has apparently swapped positions with the less friendly person, so it's more pleasant now. Though both seem to be doing their best to run things efficiently. The wait isn't bad compared to other doctors -- usually about 15 minutes. read more

I think the bad reviews are unfair. This doctor knows her field. Many doctor appointments have long waits, especially when they are private single doctor locations. The trick is to be the first patient in the morning or after lunch. As far as the time she spends with us, sometimes she is brief, other times she takes a while. I like her much better than the first two psychiatrists I tried. She also really knows how to talk to kids. She gets them to articulate their thoughts and feelings. Keep in mind, you don't see her for therapy ... that is for a behavioral therapist. She is a psychiatrist, not a psychologist. I highly recommend her. read more

I noticed the negative reviews and I simply had to write in. When we first went to this office, I was not impressed. We had to wait a couple months for an appointment. When the time came, they cancelled our appointment last minute - TWICE, due to car trouble. On the day of our rescheduled appointment, I was annoyed at the 1hr wait and started to look for another psychiatrist. I met another patient in his 50's, who told me Dr. Sahgal "saved" him with the right medications for his depression, anxiety and ADD. He told me the wait was unpleasant, but it was worth it because she was the best psychiatrist he'd ever had. Honestly, I was thankful I decided to stick with Dr. Sahgal! My son has Aspergers with ADHD and was previously on 3-4 different ADHD meds. He reacted terribly to all of them, ranging from depression and unexplained anger. Dr. Sahgal had him do the gene sight and Tova test and with the results, she prescribed a different medication with dosage that was 75% LOWER than what was previously prescribed. I was very skeptical at first with a 5mg prescription and thought it was way too low. I did not believe her, but I was wrong. My son's focus improved, with almost zero side effects!!! Several months later, I complained to her about my son's incessant lying and uncontrolled temper when provoked. She gave him a low dose of some type of OCD meds based on the gene sight test and literally within a week, he is a different kid. My son now focuses in class and is more even tempered and smiles more. His constant lying literally stopped overnight. My son says he feels a difference...he doesn't get upset easily like he used to. He also said that when he feels like a lie is rolling out of his tongue, he is able to monitor and stop himself. Nonetheless, my son have social issues that we still need to work on, but Dr. Sahgal has given us the tools we needed to feel less overwhelmed. We moved out of state and I am having a tough time finding another psychiatrist. Cons: Wait can be long, office and staff are impersonal and not sophisticated . Communication outside the office can be very frustrating - even with the doctor. Pros: Staff can be nice, Dr. Priti Sahgal is very knowledgable on medications at the lowest dosage. She does spend the time to listen to your concerns and never rushes you. My son likes her too. All I can say is this...if you or your child is struggling with finding the right medications, Dr. Sahgal may be the best thing for you. read more

Probably the worst psych doc in the southbay. She will never return a call. She does not even have voicemail that you can leave a msg for her. Her office is run by a very spiteful and vicious woman. You can wait up to an hour to be seen. In her cattlecar like sleezy offices. The office staff nor her - will ever return a phone call. Your pharmacy has to call at least 3 times to get a prescription filled. After you call 3 times yourself. Just the worst experience ever with a doctors office. I will never go there again. I was forced by my terrible hmo. Do yourself a favor. Avoid months of aggravation. And drive another ten miles to see someone else if you have too. read more

I see this doctor at her Los Alamitos location and have been with her for over 5 years. Expect to wait well over a hour and then spend around 5 minutes of actual appointment time with her. She double and triple books her appointment times (obviously to increase her profit) which makes for ridiculous wait times. If you want a quality doctor, pick someone else. If you just want a refill every 3 months for meds, then expect to suck it up and be annoyed while you wait. read more

My twenty year old son who is severely autistic, was initially referred here by his long-time pediatrician. After being dangerously overmedicated by his previous physician, finding a doctor as competent as Dr. Sahgal, was quite a welcome relief. True, her practice is run in a manner very differently than what we have experienced with most other doctors. However, I believe very strongly that Dr. Sahgal is extremely knowledgable about medication, and the potential side effects associated with each drug. Just finding a psychiatrist (or any medical doctor for that matter,) who is able to treat complicated cases such as my son's and mine, is nearly impossible. Therefore, instead of all the complaining I have read about here, I think people should get realistic and be grateful to have found such an exceptional doctor to oversee their care. I genuinely feel that Dr. Sahgal is trying to help as many people as possible in her practice. And, that she and her staff do the best job they are capable of to accommodate the needs of her patients. Although wait times can be longer than optimal, and the policies of the practice take some getting used to, I would much rather find a way to "go with the flow" to be seen by Dr. Sahgal, than have an incompetent doctor roll out the red carpet for me, and end up wasting even more time being given an ineffective or inappropriate, course of therapy. read more

He put me on meds that you can't just quit taking, and then was completely unresponsive to me and the pharmacy when I needed a refill. A call to the office explaining the situation resulted in no response at all.
