Since my first review I thought I'd update a new review to write about how they've done since opening. Well it's been a great success I think as a client. Every time I come for my appointment I'm greeted with a friendly face, always offered something to drink and it is comfortable temperature inside. You know how HOT it is in Bakersfield, but it is always cool in here!! Big plus!! And I never have to wait past my appointment time as I said they run a really tight ship here, keeping all the appointments on time. Nothing worse than having to wait. They remodeled their color room to make it more roomy which was a nice touch. I really like the fact that when you book your appointment that you get a text giving you the details of you appointment and then the day before you get a confirmation for your appointment. Nice!! Why it took me 3 years to go back here when it is so close to home, I have no idea... But, I found Jaime and she is just the greatest! Super personable. So talented, I feel that she could cut and highlight my hair with her eyes closed. Front counter, friendly-ish. Overall, the salon is clean and seems very drama-free which is a nice change. And, I was taken in on time for my appointment. At other places, at times I was left sitting waiting 45 min to be seen as the stylists ran late most time being double and triple booked. Nice products at the front(they sell Skinceuticals skin care!) and low pressure sales felt. I bought a really good L'Oreal shampoo in a peach colored bottle that Jaime used on me. It was at a great price point. The cost of the appointment was very reasonable although there was a $15 treatment done that I had not Ok'd but I feel it was an honest mistake. The only other thing I would change is that we lost 75 cents making my appointment on line. What, why? Weird. Will call it in next time. I really liked my results/the overall feel here so see ya in June, Privato! Wee update - fast forward to June. I did not realize Jaime would be unavailable for much of summer so.. enter Jeanette! This is my go-to spot for cuts and color, and I definitely love this place. I had a pixie-cut, and to maintain my hair, I had to go to salons almost every month because my hair grows REALLY FAST. I kept that type of hair for almost 2 years, so I went to many. This salon is the best one I've had out of what I've experienced. I am a new client of Privato and can't speak highly enough! Adrienne gave me a manicure with dip powder and I was hesitant at first BC I've never had the dip powder but I absolutely LOVED it. She was so thorough at removing over grown cuticle and hang nails my hands look like a new person. I also needed some hair product too which I was glad to find such a wide selection to chose from. I wrote my first review a couple years ago and felt it was time for a much needed update. After coming to terms with the fact my current stylist at another salon just didn't regularly result in a cut I liked, I decided it was time to switch. I tracked down one of Privato's stylists (Kim) I saw years ago just once at another salon and loved. It's terrifying to want a big hair change, and even more so to ask a stranger to do it. Add in the fact my hair had changed after a couple years of health issues and I was pretty protective of my locks. I figured I could at least eliminate the fear of a stranger cutting my hair by visiting the stylist at Privato. Unfortunately, some snafus occurred on Privato's end that resulted in scheduling changes leading up to my appointment and Kim no longer being available before I needed to leave town for an extended vacation. I won't go in to detail, but it was enough to warrant a complaint. Enter Lisa, Privato's owner. She handled the situation with nothing but class. The end result was my favorite haircut in years and 100% certainty this is my new go-to place. Better than a good cut, I listened to Lisa explaining her techniques to her assistant. It wasn't anything major, but hearing her do that made me feel confident not only was I in good hands with Lisa, but her entire staff would be expected to meet that standard as well. It's hard to find a good salon and stylist. It's even harder to have a good experience after raising an issue with something that's gone wrong. Still, Lisa and Privato did that with ease, proving they know not just how to style great hair, but to run a class act business along the way. I'll be back for more than nails and facials now, and suspect I'll be encouraging friends to join me. read more

I have curly hair (3a/b) and I have struggled to find a stylist that I like in Bakersfield. Lisa was fantastic! I came in with my hair styled as usual and talked her through what I wanted for the cut and how I didn't want my hair straightened to be cut either. (I just don't get that... Never had a stylist be adamant about straightening my hair just to cut it until I moved here. Heat is the devil when it comes to my curls!) She just smiled and said ok. Lisa was awesome, she did exactly what I asked! She didn't style it like I do, but how often do you go to the stylist and experience that? I like my curls defined and she pulled them out a bit. After getting my hair done in LA for several years, I had very high expectations when finding a hairdresser in my hometown of Bakersfield. Thankfully, I quickly found Hope, and she is amazing! She fixed my over processed, damaged, mess of hair and took me from a black box dye to a gorgeous brown/blonde ombre. It took two sessions because my hair was a complete mess, and Hope made sure to get me the color I wanted without damaging it at all! My hair is much healthier than when I first came in, and I have ombre/balayage now. It looks gorgeous, Hope is a great listener and detail oriented. I highly recommend her. read more

My first impression of this salon is that it has a very classy, sleek, and immaculate presentation -- which is very pleasing to the senses if you set out to treat yourself. I've only used this place twice, and only for haircuts each time, but I did enjoy my experience here. Tip -- if you do select a stylist, be sure to ask if she is a junior stylist, a master stylist, and so on b/c the price for a basic cut (and any other service) is different depending on the expertise of your stylist. Privato has a website that prices everything for you, and the site also designates the level of stylist you are selecting. My first time here, I had a junior stylist, and my cut was $35. I didn't think the cut was anything special. However, I must admit that it was my fault, b/c what I asked for was more of a trim than anything else. The second time, I asked for a more robustly different cut than what I had from a master stylist, and I was very satisfied with the results. She gave my short layers lots of sexy texture, which I loved, and it costed $50. I thought it was worth the value of the cut. What I thought was cute was that all the stylists have matching smocks -- like Privato's own adorable uniforms. They were also very obliging and sweet, so you feel like you can talk to them. After your service, they also call you to ask for feedback, so that's always nice. I loved my experience here, and I brought a friend back as well. I followed my hairdresser, Gracie, to this salon a few months ago. I am always greeted nicely and offered a drink. The salon was nicely redone (it used to be House of Colors salon). It's very organized and neat. All of their products are nicely displayed on one wall and there isn't clutter everywhere. The chairs at the stations and shampooing area are very comfortable. I love that they do everything "electronically." I get confirmation emails/texts the day before my appointment and my stylist now "checks me out" on an iPad and Square immediately after service and my receipt is sent to me via text or email. No more going to the front and possibly waiting to pay because the receptionist is greeting other clients or on the phone. Genius on the owner's part! read more

Horrified, disgusting, and extremely depressed after leaving my appointment here. My reason for booking a salon visit was to have my balayage refreshed and after an extensive search on yelp I decided on Privato because of the positive feedback they receive here on the page. After leaving the shampoo bowl and having the towel removed at the chair it took every ounce of strength I had to not start sobbing in the chair! My beautiful, and healthy hair that I had walked in with was now a shriveled, chunky, and bleached mess. At this point I knew that my stylist Keasha would not be able to fix the mess as she had already taken it way beyond the point of damage than if I had done the process myself at home but was wanting a day of feeling pampered, but instead left the salon feeling ashamed and horrified. The emotional distress I felt of having grown my hair out to the length and softness I wanted (knowing the possible damage that could be done) but leaving with fried, fizzled ends was enough to have my sobbing in the parking lot not wanting to return home to my loving husband who would except me for who I am regardless of whether or not there is hair on my head. But in that moment I felt so much shame I went home and wrapped my hair completely from sight in a knot wrap and stayed like this for 2 weeks until I could be seen at opulent where my color correction would cost $250+ to give me something that made me feel decent. The salon refunded me but only after harassing me that "I got what I paid for" and "I don't see anything wrong with this". My money was returned but what cannot be returned is the 4 inches of hair I had to sacrifice and the weeks of sadness and uncomfortably of having to constantly hide my hair because of the shame and sadness that came with it. I have attached photos and please know these photos were taken 30 minutes after my appointment at Privato. ALSO this company claims to use the French brand "KERASTASE" (very expensive) so when my stylist started claiming she was an endorser for the cheap brand "L'Oréal" I was completely taken back because I was paying a price that would have constituted me getting the higher end products. Jami Highfill is my manicurist and she is amazing. Always making sure my comfort is top priority. Her art is fantastic and she takes her time. Once you enter the salon the polite receptionist offers a refreshment which is very classy. Will also be looking into making a hair appt for my daughter. I have been shopping around for spas these last few months and this is the first one I've considered going back to. I had the signature facial done by Linda and loved the results. She took her time and was informative about what she was doing, customizing treatments to my skin type and needs. Other staff was also friendly and helpful. I had an amazing experience at this salon. It was my first time getting a service, Rick was AMAZING and made me feel so comfortable about my transition to medium hair to a long pixie . I've always cut my hair short but never got as short as a pixie. He talked me through the process and made sure this is what I wanted. I was a bit nervous about it because I've never gone that short but he reassured me and that calmed my nerves. His calm positive demeanor made me feel confident in the decision I was making. The salon is beautiful, clean and very friendly but my biggest praise is for the wonderful owner, Lisa. She takes great care of me and my precious hair every time I come in. She won't brag about her own skills so I'll do it for her. I am PICKY. Like, pain in the rear picky! I know what great hair looks like and I am not ok with settling and with Lisa I don't have to. She knows her stuff! I consistently have great blonde hair with no bands, bleeding or funky tint. I've gone to others that have occasionally got it right but it seemed like just a fluke.
