The owner, Bill Pownall, is a great guy who knows more about bowling and what balls to buy than anybody I know. The place originated as a bar, but was turned into a bowling alley, which means that there is a whole ass bar up front with a huge selection of drinks and snacks that are completely underpriced. Bowling is super cheap too, at 4 dollars per game. If you are a bowler for another team having to play a match here against us, just know that you will lose by 200 pins because I know that you bowl on synthetic lanes and your ball is going to over hook, + your lines will wear down after one game and you wont know what to do about it. I recomend that you bowl with either a pearl, urethane or just use a plastic and put a shitload of revs on it.

We traveled from Maryland to attend a high school regatta hosted by CLYC. It was cold and rainy but…read morethat didn't matter because the club took us in like we were old friends. We were told to make ourselves at home in all areas of the club. They provided breakfast and coffee both days. They opened the bar at 11 am and gave us access to the snack menu all day. The food was delicious. The bar staff was warm and friendly. The regatta was run more professionally than any I have ever seen and the viewing was spectacular. Our whole group was extremely grateful for the hospitality. If I'm ever in this area again, I hope to sail out of this club. If I lived in this area, I'd definitely be a regular there.

When we went into the restaurant to relax and cool off, we found out there was no conditioning. Half the people were 60 and older. The employees told the bride that the air-conditioner was broken... I was told there was no air-conditioner and never was. You would think with over 75 people in that small space they would have had at least fans!!!! When most of the traveling people went back to the hotel, they were all hungry. I asked them didn't they eat at the reception... their reply was " It was too hot to eat." I would not recommend this place to anyone unless it is in the dead of winter!!!

I had one condition to go on this road trip, I wanted to stop and see the Scary Lucy Statue. After seeing it online a few years ago, I just wanted to see it in person. We mapped it out and found our way to this park. The park, overall, is beautiful and a complete asset. There are pavilions, a boat slip, a playground, restrooms, and plenty of seating. When you park at the park and start to walk towards the grounds you are greeted by Lucy. Not Scary Lucy, but the Nice Lucy. The Lucy that commanded your attention as she is about to make her skirt flow. Almost like she was there to welcome you into the park and tell you to enjoy yourself while here. Weirdly enough, this statue, the more welcoming statue, is the older of the two statues of the park. We then made our way over to the Scary Lucy statue. Oof, what a statue it is. Unveiled in 2009, I'm sure a lot of people had to do a double take. I know and understand that they were attempting to pay tribute to this legend, but they really missed the mark. Enjoy the picture as that was what I got to see up close. What made it a bit more scary was the amount of spiderwebs all over the statue. After we took in the statues we walked about the park and ended up by the boat slip and lighthouse. We walked out on the pier and I have to say that this is some of the clearest water I have seen in a while. While there, we assisted a couple in launching their boat, well, my brother did, I had my camera taking a tong of pictures. With the view taken in and statues seen, we decided to get on the road and keep on trucking down the road.

There is a big parking lot which makes it easy to stop and a large playground area right when you get out of your car. They also have benches and picnic areas and we spotted a small lighthouse near the water that we walked over to check out. It looked very cool. Our reason for stopping here however was obviously the statues of Lucille Ball. There are two of them. The newer prettier Lucy statue is charming and super well done. I loved seeing her in the classic polka dot dress! (My dog had on a cute little plaid dress that day so I had to get her in the photo as well) The older statue though that is referred to as the ugly one was honestly terrible. The nod to vitameatavegamin was awesome and honestly I think it probably wouldn't have seemed so bad had I not seen the pretty sculpture first, but honestly it's a little shocking. Unfortunately, it was overcast like I said so it was difficult to get good pictures of anything but if you're an Isle of Lucy fan or even just passing through the area, this park is definitely worth a visit. It only takes a few minutes to see the statues and you can enjoy some nice scenery by the water.

This is a very nice trail located in Amish Country which runs North and South of the small town of…read moreSpartansburg. It is named after the East Branch of Oil Creek, which it follows. The trail-head is located in town next to the Dutch Treat restaurant, and is also next to Clear Lake (There is a bridge so you can walk over and view the dam). The trail is not very long, but the natural scenery makes this a worthwhile visit. I have ridden this trail on numerous occasions, and have seen lots of wildlife, including one time, where I saw a bear cross the trail. Sometimes there are Amish horse and buggies using the trail also. P.S. I had no signal in the town of Spartansburg, so I was unable to check-in there, but near the end of the trail near Sportsmans Road I did have a signal, so I was able to check in there.

There are snakes and mosquitoes because you're near a murky mud puddle they (ironically?) call Clear Lake and a swamp. The length of it is paved. Alongside the pavement there's grass on one half and gravel on the other half of the length. There are a couple of benches. There is aggressive signage that's all kinds of pissy with buggy drivers about how "we'll close this gate if you amish keep using this trail for driving..." or something similarly sh*tty that seemed uninviting, prejudiced and unnecessary. There are no trash receptacles except at the very beginning of the trail so if you walk your dog be ready to carry your poop bag the whole way. Also, bikes are allowed on the trail so keep an eye out.
