They asked us what we like to cook, what we already have, and what would be the most useful for us. After they made a few suggestions, we picked what we liked best. When we left, we felt very confident in our purchase decision. We ended up with a knife for chopping veggies, one for doing a bit of finer work (ahem, removing skin from a peach for my 9 month old), and a bread knife (seriously, I didn't realize you don't need to smoosh bread every time you slice it). It is such a joy to have these new tools in our kitchen! We've also had a few of our knives sharpened -- I would highly recommend Strata for this service. It's not worth using dull knives!!

Mr. sharp is so convenient and did such a great job on 13 knives I brought to him plus a hedge clipper! Be careful though! They are sharp, and I cut myself (nothing fatal) almost immediately.
