Professional eyebrows? Check. Professional service? Does it even exist? Apparently, not here. I've been actively searching for a new place to get my brows done, after a bad experience with my old place of a few years. It's not easy, I tell you. I gave this place a shot, figuring it's much more convenient, and the timing was right. A long-haired lady took me in, and having my last threader insist that thick, bushy eyebrows suited me, I made it clear to this lady since the beginning that I wanted thinner eyebrows. She first cleaned up, then went on to shape it. It took her 3 times and a lot of sighing and whining to finally get it right. I mean, I even showed her a photo of what I wanted so she can make it as similar. In all of my years of threading, I've never had to pull out a photo to make it any more clear. Needless to say, the customers that were waiting were gawking over because this lady made such a scene of how she thought it looked fine, blah, blah, blah. Sorry, but just because you're charging only $5 for your service doesn't mean you can just bullshit service you/your company set the price for, and your customers should not have to feel any embarrassment--there is plenty of competition around. After I gave her a tip, she didn't even bother to say "thank you" or acknowledge it, and didn't give me a stamp card. Absolutely horrible. My brows turned out nice--after THREE times of tiredly holding my breath and nicely asking her to clean it up a little more. I would never want this lady to touch my face again. She didn't sanitize, didn't rub aloe lotion/gel, didn't clean the hairs off my face (which I'm okay with, but it shows her work ethic/efforts). I don't know if I'll come back again, and it's probably for the right reasons that I've only come once after all these years they opened. Some advice: next time, don't throw a fit in the event that your client is unlikely to come back again. read more

I'm very particular about who does my brows. I used to go to 74th street because it was the closest so when this spot opened I was really excited. Before I sit I make sure to tell them, "Clean up, not too thin." and it's only for $5 dollars AND they give you a card that they stamp each time so the 10th one is free. I've been coming here ever since they've opened and go about once to twice a month. They have always been sweet and caring so I'm not sure where these unprofessional reviews are coming from. This is my first threading after coming back from the long winter break and I'm once again happy with the service and always recommend my neighbors to come here for their threading needs. I've been coming to Professional Brows for eyebrow threading since I was in high school and you really can't beat the price and convenience. Located right next to the 61st Street subway station, the salon is conveniently situated and the hours are fairly generous. There are usually two chairs for eyebrow threading, one or two for salon services and more private rooms downstairs for other types of waxing. The wait can get a little long at peak times, like weekend afternoons, but it generally moves very quickly. The ladies are good about shaping and cleaning up eyebrows. During busy times, however, they do tend to rush so it's a good idea to take a peek in the mirror before you leave to pay. If there aren't a lot of people waiting, the ladies often give you a mini-face massage when you opt for lotion after the threading. I usually tip ~$1 or $2 depending on what I have handy. There is also a rewards card that gives you one free threading session after 10 visits. In general, Professional Brows is a good and reliable salon for eyebrow threading but if you want a very specific style or are extremely particular, you may want to seek services elsewhere. read more

Oh. my. god!!! What the hell was this lady doing?? I've had multiple brow threading jobs at different locations, and NEVER has the pain been SO excruciatingly bad (not even the first time). Oh wait, no wonder it hurt so bad, it turns out it was bleeding on both sides... Wait, WHAT?? Bleeding from a brow threading job?? How the hell does that even happen?? I'm not even talking about dots, but actual dripping of blood! They say beauty from pain, right? Not even. The end result was a pair of sloppy, uneven brows with plenty of hair left over. Come here to get my brows done by the lovely Fareeda. I don't let anyone else do it! And for 4 bucks! Sometimes I have a henna tattoo done as well. I hadn't been here for a while, so I was surprised when the manicurist Mimi was replaced by a Peruvian woman whose name I can't remember. Fareeda is an excellent eyebrow threader and the new woman (sorry!) is a good manicurist as well. Last time I went I had my brows threaded by a younger employee and it was considerably more painful than it should be. WARNING: ONLY LET FAREEDA THREAD YOUR BROWS Plus she always gives you a brow massage. Love this place. You hear all kinds of languages at once. I can speak Spanish without getting funny looks and I like that a lot. The staff is very friendly, they remember your name, ask you how you've been and I love the prices. --------- Edited this review to inform everyone that the staff at Professional Brows is pretty much perfect now. Now I let Fareeda AND Tanu do my eyebrows. They're both wonderful. Love 'em. A very nice woman named Sylvia is the nail technician now and she does a good job. She gives nice foot massages. The hairdresser Esteban wowed me when he first started working here. Every time I'd come by, a bunch of people would come in asking for Esteban. "He works here now, right? Oh I need him! Where is he?" A bunch of loyal customers followed him from his last job - seemed legit. And it was. This man pulls no punches - if your hair sucks, he'll let you know. He told me once "Tell me what you like, and I'll tell you what looks good on you." I like Esteban. Maybe it's not fair to judge this place just on one visit, but I'll just say that I'm reviewing this place based on waxing experience only. First, there were a bunch of people in line ahead of me waiting to get their eyebrows threaded. One of the ladies who does threading was finished, and called the next person in line up, but BOTH people in front of me said they were waiting for the other woman. I guess there is definitely a difference between the two, so I'd say figure out who that is before you go. I was getting waxed, so the less-desirable woman took me downstairs into the waxing room. The room looked clean enough, so that was good. Before I went downstairs, I asked if they had sugar wax, and she said yes, and once there, she let me try two different waxes that they had - the sugar one, and another one she said was for sensitive skin, which was considerate of her. However, I've had sugar waxes before, and I don't think this was sugar. Additionally, it was PAINFUL. I mean, brazilian waxes are never pleasant, but this was exceptionally painful. She waxed huge areas each time, and she was definitely double dipping. She didn't use new sticks each time. That alone is bad enough. Cut to a few weeks later - ingrown hairs galore. This may be a great place for eyebrow threading, but I'd recommend finding somewhere else for waxing. read more

I go here every two weeks to get my eyebrows done by Frieda and get my nails done by Dulce. I really enjoy this place cause it is small, inexpensive and clean. Also if you come during the daytime it is relatively quiet and easy to get all of yourself in and out. In addition to doing nails, eyebrow threading, and waxing Professional Brows also has a hairstylist who cuts/blows/styles and they perform facials downstairs. They thread eyebrows GREAT. Everyone there does. But when it comes to waxing - WATCH OUT. The only time I was satisfied with waxing was when this young girl who looked like she was in her early 20's did it. The middle-aged (boss?) lady is terrible at waxing. Every other nail/waxing/threading place has no problem wherever I need work done, but she NEVER does a clean job and it's SUPER noticeable! I had it done twice by her, and the second time, she told me she couldn't do it and I had to come back another time. And she charged me for it. What the f---. Yikes, I'm reading these reviews and I guess I'm thankful I had the "good woman" working on my brows. I am praying I remember who it was next time I'm in. I went on a Friday morning before noon and there was about 3 other people there. In Queens, thats a crowd and a good sign. There was still no wait and I was in and out. This was only the second time I've had my caterpillar eyebrows threaded but two things she did extra and for $3 less will keep me coming back. First, after threading, she trimmed the rest of my brows. Definitely helpful, they can get out of control. The second thing was the way she massaged the lotion on after. It was like she was pushing the stress out of my brow and it felt refreshing. I will remember to be selective in 2 weeks when I go back because I'd like to have another wonderful experience. read more

CONTEXT: I live nearby and come here out of convenience quite often. I only go to get face threading. --THEY RUSH. If anyone is waiting, especially if it's more than 1 or 2 people, they will do a rush job. I just went, and there is of course a rush for NYE and the place was packed. I got my eyebrows and upper lip threaded in about 5 minutes (which is very quick!). Not only did this particular woman not do a good job, but the ferocity with which she was threading was not good for my skin. --THEY DON'T LISTEN. -----When I ask them to fix something after they feel they are done, it is a hit or mess. On this particular New Year's Eve Eve, I asked my person to make one side look a little more straight, which resulted in her taking off a lot of hair from that side instead (even though I specifically told her not to beforehand), and now my brows look uneven. -----I ask for threading each time, and once or twice, one or other of the women has waxed my upper lip instead, presumably because it was quicker/easier. Threading and waxing affect people differently, and this should not have been done without permission. On at least one occasion, they applied the wax while my eyes were closed (cause my eyebrows had just been threaded and I was tearing up) and did a strip before I could say no. --On a couple occasions, when I have gone during a slow period, and my person took her time threading, it was done relatively well. EVALUATION: It's pretty much a gamble. Try to go at weird times when it won't be busy. If you think one person is better than the others, then try to get her, even if it means waiting. OR, just go to a better salon. This one is cheap though! DISCLAIMER: Particularly grumpy at this point in time, because not only did they rush me, but my eyebrows came out uneven for the first time in perhaps five years. The 3rd time, Tina aint around in sundays so there was another lady who did my brows and wax. She regularly works at their Long Island branch and just happened to be there on that day and amazingly, I love how clean she did my brows! just finished getting my brows done here. i laid back on the chair and was still getting settled (i had on a baseball cap and my eyeglasses to remove) and as soon as i took my glasses off she started going at it with the thread on my face. like it was the fast and the furious. it seriously like she was lashing at my face with the thread. this was not my first time doing my eyebrows. i have been to plenty of different eyebrow places within maspeth elmhurst jackson heights and woodside. and this was by far the worst experience. the one i usually go to is right across the street from the roosevelt ave/broadway/74th street train station. and i like going to them because they try to be gentle as possible, they take their time, they clean off the stray hairs off my face and give my brows a soothing massage at the end. "professional brows" on the other hand shoved thread on my face aggressively and quickly. so in my perspective it almost was as if they were threading all the hair off randomly. whenever it was time for me to hold my skin taut the woman would constantly tap on my face even when my hands were in the process of getting there. i dont understand why this woman was in a rush. i was literally the only customer there. another woman was working with her and the both of them were chatting the whole time-- which i would not have minded at all if they werent speaking in full volume. i barely heard the music in my own earphones because of how loud they had to talk to each other. the massage part at the end was NOT gentle, felt rushed, and did not feel smooth at all. i dont know what she massaged into my brows but it was way too dry and not cool and smooth like lotion. my brows ended up being clean but way thinner than i wanted. she left all the hair on my face, gave me no tissue, gave me no mirror to let me have a good look at it. and when i left without leaving a tip, the two women started raising their voices in whatever they language they were speaking privately to one another. it was a terrible and disappointing experience from start to finish. i would not recommend this spot to anyone unless you dont mind having your brows handled roughly read more

My little sisters started going here as well! Location is right on the block of the 7 train. They wipe down the chair after every client. Clean place and friendly staff. I went in to have my upper lip waxed and yet the woman was so focused on her conversation with another worker that she somehow put the wax on my cheek? And when she waxed it half of the hair on my cheek was gone and the other half was still there. It looks absolutely horrible and I wanna cry every time I look at myself. She didn't even have the decency to apologize and went on to say that I took the risk of going there and that there was always a chance that it could happen. Instead of apologizing she suggested getting a full facial waxing for $20 but that wasn't my intention when I came in. I only wanted my upper lip waxed. Was she trying to just get money out of me? I feel nauseous just thinking about my experience here. This isn't my first time getting my upper lip waxed. Terrible place. My mom came to this place very excited looking forward to do something new to her hair and left very upset. She spoke to one of the workers, a young Colombian woman with highlights, telling her what she wanted done to her hair and asked her if it would be possible. Instead of the worker being helpful, the worker criticized my moms hair and told her, "you have three different hair colors and let me guess, you're one of those who colors their hair at home and picks the first box you see from the pharmacy"... a woman who knows absolutely nothing of my mother, had the audacity to speak this way to her and be so rude. Absolutely terrible service and very unprofessional! The first few times i went there, service was ok and i was able to get what i needed - a clean up of my eyebrows. This time, i went for my usual clean up and the lady rushed through the service (it was not even busy)! After rushing, she missed quite a lot of hair and i asked her to clean up the top. She did but in a very harsh manner that made it quite painful. I asked her to clean some more of the bottom of my brows and she said "'miss it's too short"! it's absolutely not too short, i understand if it were stubbles of hair that she couldn't thread, but there's several that you can see. I asked the lady to wax my eyebrows cause I'm not really comfortable with threading but she insisted to thread my eyebrows cause I guess she's not a pro at waxing so I was just like whatever just to get it over with. So then I asked her to arch my eyebrows and as I was about to show her a picture, she forced me to lay down cause she said she was supposed to leave and I must get it done already. Worst customer service from a person named Simran or at least that's what she told me her name was. I had a major abdominal surgery about a month ago and I asked her if the chair could be adjusted since I cannot lean back flat all the way, her response was "this is how it is" in very standoffish tone. Instead of helping me lean back, she just watched me struggle to lay back. She was very rough threading my cheeks and didn't even thread my cheekbones even though I had asked her to remove hair on my cheeks too. When she said she was done, I checked my cheeks and still had hair. Upon asking, I was told it was extra charge. Normally, if estheticians see hair on inappropriate places, they ask if they should remove hair. I'm usually a great tipper and I never walk out of a place without tipping the estheticians at least 20% for their efforts but I couldn't tip her because of her attitude towards me while she was polite another client who was not a minority. I was happy to see a threading salon open in my neighborhood so I can swing by here after getting off the train and not bother going out of my way to somewhere in Manhattan or some other place in Queens. For the most part, I am satisfied with this place. It is $4.99 for threading which is a steal. They also offer a buy 10 get one free card. I was a little disappointed a while back when they got rid of the buy 10 card because they were having an anniversary sale. They told me they no longer take the card and took my card and threw it out. This was fine until months later, after their anniversary sale, they were taking the card again. I explained what happened and they gave me two stamps on my new card in addition to the one I was getting that day. If you can, go during the week because for some reason they only have one person doing eyebrows and waxing on saturday mornings until the other person comes in and when I was there, she was late, so I had to wait 20 minutes and then ultimately leave because I had stuff to do. But in general, this is a small and clean salon and I am happy with their service. read more

This place is extremely unprofessional. Every time I go there, the employees care more about the conversation they're having with each other as opposed to their client. They will have me wait on the chair and mid-eyebrow session they'll stop to finish their conversation. It's unbelievable! My time is valuable but apparently to them it's not. Also they do a very bad job, whenever I get my eyebrows done I have scars and if it's my upper lip there's always hair left over, the only reason I even go is because of the vicinity to my home, or otherwise I always go to my go to salon.
