Professional, enthusiastic, accommodating, patient, friendly, humorous, educational, convenient,…read moreeconomical, reliable... I started this review with a list of adjectives which immediately come to mind to describe Scuba Dan, and the fantastic service and value that he delivers.Suffice to say that if you are exploring scuba diving certification in the area, Scuba Dan is your TOP CHOICE. I recently found myself searching through options to get my 2 daughters, ages 12 and 14, certified before our big trip to Curacao. I had been busy with work, and time was fast running out. I had reached out to several other local options, and of the companies that actually responded, the options presented to us vs the cost just weren't working. Then I called Scuba Dan. I was immediately impressed with his quick and agreeable responses. For us, what he offered and delivered was exactly what we needed, and he exceeded expectations through the whole process. WHY CHOOSE DAN'S SCUBA? PASSION & AVAILABILITY: First of all, Dan clearly loves this sport, and he has a clear passion to share this with everyone he can. He will do his utmost to accommodate your needs in every manner - be it scheduling class time, pool time, or certification time at a local quarry. Dan makes himself available, when possible, any day of the week, during most of the day. With our family's hectic and convoluted schedules, this was invaluable. CRAZY FLEXIBILITY: Dan was incredibly flexible to adjust days and times when a couple unexpected situations occurred. We were able to get my daughters start-to-finish certified in about 3 weeks from the 1st call to completion - and we were only limited on our own end. EXPERT WITH TEENS (and basically everyone tbh): Dan's friendly, welcoming personality immediately puts you at ease. I work with the public, and I instantly found myself happy with our choice to work with Dan. I excitedly told my girls they were in good hands, and they would like him. They were dubious, but once they met Dan, he quickly won them over. He is so good at relating to people; to anticipating their needs, worries, and concerns before they need to speak; and when needed he will instantly adjust in the moment with no hesitation and never a sign of frustration. He truly wants this to be an amazing experience. NO STRESS PACING: Dan will move at your pace, no matter what it is. He even was kind enough to schedule a last-minute bonus pool session. This allowed my girls 1 more chance to brush up skills before their quarry certification dives -- but more importantly, he allowed my wife to join them in the pool to get a quick scuba refresher alongside them since it had surprisingly been about a decade since she had last dived. Her words: "Thank goodness I did that. I was actually struggling at the beginning. I was having a hard time catching my breath with the regulator in my mouth. I can't imagine doing that with a stranger. EVEN THOUGH TECHNICALLY, I GUESS, SCUBA DAN IS A STRANGER, IT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE IT. He was very patient." Having not seen the girls yet as I had been taking them, she was furthermore beyond impressed with how confident, capable, and educated the girls were with their gear, terminology, and diving skills. This was all in the span of about 1.5 weeks. My girls bragged to anyone who would listen about how great, funny, helpful, and patient Scuba Dan was. It was a hugely positive experience for them. CONVENIENT TRAINING SITES: Practice sessions were right in the Twinsburg Fitness Center pool, where Dan is clearly well-known and liked. We quickly knocked out their 2 days of certification dives at Nelson's Ledges Quarry Park, so they would be ready to go ASAP once we were in Curacao. The cost for the certification dives was only about $200 more. Plus, Dan includes all the gear you might need at every step, at no extra cost, with zero attempt at upselling or pushing you to buy gear. Fast forward to Curacao, and my family was clearly well prepared. We went diving on 4 different days, at 5 different sites, and it was such a beautiful and amazing experience to share as a family. I cannot recommend Scuba Dan enough. Stop waiting, stop debating, and give him a call!

This is a detailed review:…read more Only one positive: We appreciated the instructor named Marina. However, I cannot recommend this facility, and I strongly advise people to look elsewhere. For context, our 12 year old is aspiring to become a marine biologist, so he plans to become a licensed open water SCUBA diver, and the rest of the family plans to follow through with dive certication because we want to support him. His grandmother paid for a PADI Exploration class, and he has been excited to take part in this for months. While speaking with one clerk at Davey Bones, we had such a terrible experience that we nearly cancelled. This clerk criticized the PADI course, telling me it was a waste of money. I responded by explaining that we had a certificate from Christmas, and he changed his tune when he knew we had already paid. We were then met with unexcusable treatment. On Thursday, disorganization was evident immediately when the clerk could not find his own forms on his desk in folders that were not labeled. He then proceeded to point to different areas on the form, asking me to fill it out. This included the name of his store which was not pre-filled. At one instant, the moment where I almost walked out, he told me to fill my son's name on the top of one page, and then as I filled it in, he started to shout the name of the class my son was taking while pounding is finger on the form. It took me a moment to realize he had changed his mind or not realized what he had asked me to write, and so I asked for clarification about what he wanted me to write on the top. He then said, "Should I have your son fill this out since you can't follow directions?" This was of course in front of my child. In short, I gave him an excessive amount of grace because he had previously mentioned, and then proceeded to tell us in detail, that he served in the Special Forces. As our family has served in multiple branches of the military, during World War II, in Korea, and beyond, we understand that veterans can be going through things. However, this was not a typical behavior from a struggling veteran, in my experience. This was absolute disrespect. After my child was fitted for the various gear he needed for the dive, the clerk asked us to take home all of the gear, bring it to the assigned location for the training, and then to bring it back to the shop the following week. We neither complained nor questioned these requests even though they were not specified when we first signed up for the course. They reminded us, multiple times, of the location and the course would start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. When we arrived at 8:40 a.m. on Saturday morning, we found that there was a swimming competition for children which was booked for months; a security guard asked me to leave the pool deck where I had brought in the air tank, and the YMCA manager told me under no uncertain terms that no dive session had ever been booked. I called the shop, furious but calm. The same clerk answered, just as insulting and belligerent as ever. He blamed "a girl" at the the YMCA for incorrectly scheduling the event which was a lie; the YMCA pool manager is male. Then, the clerk DEMANDED that I drive for over 45 minutes to another location, but he couldn't give me the address. He told me he'd call me back with the address. We waited for 20 minutes. No call. I called the shop again. The clerk insinuated that WE were at fault for not seeking out the SCUBA instructors at the YMCA to ask for the address. He yelled so much that my child could hear him through my phone. I lost patience. The military certainly doesn't teach excuses or a lack of personal responsibility. Later, I learned that they didn't even have a backup plan. the pool we were using belonged to one of the adult students who showed up that morning... The short version: I demanded the address. My son enjoyed Marina's instruction, but I informed them we would NOT continue coursework with their facility. I also refused to take the gear with me, and I handed it to them there and left.

She explained everything clearly and provided a supportive learning environment during the two day in water testing. The training dives were unforgettable, diving in Gilboa Quarry was a highlight to swim through sunken busses, truck and motor cycle. Seeing the marine life up close and gaining confidence underwater was incredible. The equipment provided, well maintained, and instruction was professional with process very well organized and enjoyable. I highly recommend this certification program in SCUBA diving whether a beginner or looking to expand your SCUBA adventure skills. Thank you Davey Bones Dive Shop!

Do you want a SCUBA dive tour provider that is ok with forcing their clients to travel against CDC advice or lose their money when covid-19 cases are worse than during spring 2020 shutdown because it is too inconvenient for them to rebook tours that are rebookable with no or low costs (and doesn't bother to ask client's their opinion?) Do you want a travel SCUBA dive tour that is ok with risking their clients and their families and the tour operator's lives (and wrongful death lawsuits for these people)? Do you want a SCUBA dive tour provider that doesn't have a contract? Do you want a SCUBA dive tour provider who organizes a dive trip oversees and then fails to ensure that it is actually possible to fly on the day the dive boat leaves to the airport where their tour promotion says you can be picked up and transported to the dive boat, forcing you to spend an extra night to fly when flights actually happen? Do you want a dive tour operator who failed to correctly license their business with the state for years? Then based on my experience, Sharkbuds is the company for you. Otherwise 2-star; there are tour providers out there who care about their client's safety and long-term business far more than this company which seems to be just a hobby for the owner's travel desires.
