We've had two chairs repaired by Howard at Professional Furniture Services and couldn't be happier! One was a kitchen table chair which my aunt's dogs had chewed and ruined the bottom rungs on, but he made it look like new. It matches the rest of our chairs perfectly now. The other chair was a wooden chair with a wicker seat from around 1900 that felt like it would fall apart when I sat in it. (The chair is so old that it had handmade nails in it!) He took it apart and put it back together better than it has ever been before in my lifetime. It's now a solid chair that people can sit in without worrying that it will splinter under them. We have a couple other chairs that need various levels of repair and we'll be bringing them in soon. PFS came to my house to repair our new kitchen cabinets after the countertop contractors damaged them during installation. The guy that arrived seemed professional enough. Before the guy started I asked if he needed to me cover the floor. I explained that I was in the process of putting in new floor and I didn't want it scratched by his ladder. He said he has a blanket he will use. I left him alone to the work and he called me to let me know he was done about an hour later. I came in and immediately noticed a decent amount of overspray on the full height backsplash. I pointed it out and he wiped it off with some cleaner. I tried to ask him what the cleaner was because the Silestone has specific requirements for allowed cleaners. Harsh chemical will ruin it. He didn't answer. He then proceeds to spray another section of the cabinet I had noticed wasn't done. No taping, no protection, nothing. He then finished up and left and I started looking around. THERE IS OVERSPRAY ON EVERYTHING. There is about 2 square feet of white overspray on our dark grey $8000 tops and backsplash, overspray on the floor, and some small scratches on the floor. He obviously didn't use the blanket or any other method of protecting any of my stuff. This guy is working on $25k worth of cabinets and tops and can't even take time to mask it off. He also sanded the work without any kind of cleaning or protection. Now I will have to spend an hour or two getting paint off of my brand new tops/splash and floors and cleaning up dust throughout the kitchen. For people that are supposed to be detail oriented and careful they sure didn't pay attention to anything in my house. I would look elsewhere. read more

Howard did a beautiful job refinishing the dining room table my grandfather made many decades ago. I had not taken very good care of it and it had discoloration, cup rings, etc. I called around and got three estimates. Not only was Howard's the most competitive, he got it done in 2 weeks (as compared to the 6-8 weeks I was quoted elsewhere). Howard also went to great lengths to match the table to the other mid century furniture I had in my house so it now looks like a set. He generously helped me load it into my u-haul van when I went to pick it up. I can't say enough good things about Howard Freeman or his work. After letting friends sleep over with their little dog, I noticed a missing corner of an antique headboard that belonged to my folks. I immediately panicked however, went to yelp to find the best reviews on furniture repair in the area. I called several places and after sending photos of the damage, I got quotes as high as $230 and some of the professionals even told me the repair would be much too difficult for them to take on. I brought the drawer from the headboard to Howard who looked at it briefly and quoted me significantly less than the other quotes I received. He also completed the work much more quickly than I expected. When my husband went to pick up the headboard drawer, he could barely tell that a repair had been made. To someone who did not know there was damage in the first place, they would never realize that a corner of the headboard drawer had been replaced.Had I known that the repair would look so fantastic, I never would have fessed up to my folks about the damage in the first place. I attached a photo as well so you can see what a wonderful job Howard did. Now I am looking around my home to find all kinds of other furnishings that he can restore for me. After an exhaustive search for a furniture restorer in the Metro West Boston market area we landed on Howard Freeman w/ his company Professional Furniture Services. We dropped off high end dinning room chairs for restoring the structural integrity but one had come completely apart w/ a chuck of the teak chair cushion support rail broken off completely and miss placed. When I picked up the chairs I asked my wife to tell me which of the 4 chairs had the the chair cushion support rail patched with a 2 part epoxy, molded and sanded, stained, wood graining applied to match the existing patina and chair reassembled. She could not, WOW! I only knew because I put a small mark on the underside so I knew which one. Howard is a Master Craftsman w/ an Artistic hand to boot. Howard's services are very reasonable for what he provided and we feel very fortunate that we have found the gentleman going forward for our next restoration project w/ our kitchen table top. Howard has refinished a number of our pieces and I wouldn't trust anyone else. We started with our Hendredon dining table and leaves which had been abused over the years, and he suggested also improving our sideboard. This wasn't because he wanted extra business, but because he wanted everything to match. Then when our new dog chewed the leaves, he fixed those as well. When I asked him where the repairs had been made, we couldn't tell. Howard has a significant amount of furniture to browse that is not refurbished. I noticed a great table and he was very willing to refinish it. It is mahogany and walnut and is perfect for the spot I had thought about. The price for the table was clearly in line with others I have seen. Overall, I find Howard to be very reasonable with pricing, and great on timing for both refinishing and purchasing great older furniture. read more

I had received an antique candlestick side table from my mother's passing that had been glued years ago, and my cat launched off of it to get to the window. Off came the top. Well i tried to re-glue it back together, but that only lasted about a year. I brought it to Howard, who advised me that wood needs to be able to expand and contract with the weather, so screws are the way to go. He cleaned up the glue and carefully filled in old screw holes and secured the top. He had offered to completely refurbish the piece, but understood after I explained I just wanted functionality. After less than a week, the work was done (cash or check -btw). He says he has a lifetime warranty on his work, and considering the solid table, I can say I should not have to test that warranty. Howard restored a wood rocking chair that has been in my family for over 100 years. By the time it was handed down to me, there were dog chew marks on one of the feet, a spindle was completely broken, and the whole thing was loose. It was a mess and you couldn't even sit in it. His price was lower than competitors. The finish he put on the pieces was not thick and plasticy, but complemented the fact that these pieces were a more than a hundred years old.
