Who knew that furniture disassembly and reassembly was a thing? I certainly didn't until I treated myself to an extra cozy Boston Interiors sectional and the sofa portion wouldn't fit up my front or back staircase. Whoops! I had already been waiting two months for delivery, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Then the panic kicked in. Since it was a custom sectional, I would get majorly dinged if I returned it. But what other options were there? That's where Melo and Sons came in. The delivery guy put me on the phone with his manager to talk it over. Yes, returning the sectional was an option, as was taking out my dining room window to bring the sofa portion in that way (hell no!) Or... I could have some pros disassemble it at their warehouse then reassemble it in my living room. Of my three options, the third was the winner by a longshot. As I was the first delivery of the day, I patiently waited until Melo and Sons opened then gave them a ring. Joanne immediately answered and put my nerves at ease. It was obvious I wasn't the first numpty to purchase a too big piece of furniture that needed saving by them. After providing her all the requested information, I had a delivery date for about three weeks out. By the time my Boston Interiors salesperson called to discuss the failed delivery, everything was already tucked and tied with Melo and Sons. When the big day finally arrived, Mike and George showed up right on time and quickly got to work. They laid down moving blankets to protect the floor then brought up the disassembled sofa in several carefully wrapped pieces. Aside from being the consummate professionals, they were funny to boot. It took them less than two hours to reassemble the sofa and at long last reunite it with its other half. We were distraught when we discovered that our sofa wouldn't fit up the stairs in our new apartment (on moving day of all days to learn that). With how long it takes for furniture to come in these days it's so disheartening when something doesn't fit (I promised I measured!). This has been the worst experience with a service provider ever! I chose this company because of yelp reviews and recommendations from a parent group. Two men arrive to disassemble my couch. After doubting my couch is from Boston Interiors(it is!) they begin working. I live in a two family house, second floor. They are down by the garage(right below my bedroom, I can hear everything they're doing and saying). Not long after, I hear struggling in my front entryway. They are trying to get the couch upstairs, forcefully! Ummm....didn't I pay you so this didn't have to happen?!?! They can't get it up. They go back downstairs to remove legs. A little bit later, couch is upstairs, reassembled. Now, during this time, one of the men is very unprofessional. Berating the other one, yelling from downstairs, while the other is in my kitchen, unbeknownst to me. I thought it was my son until I got up to see. I guess he was looking for an outlet. There's several in the living room. The whole ordeal was haphazard! I point out the the rude one, they damaged the couch, he proceeded to ask numerous questions, which were irrelevant and non of his business. Pretty much insinuating that that was previous damage. This couch was in pristine condition before they got to it. I'm so appalled and disgusted at this point. They leave and I immediately call the office. I related to Joanne my experience and sent an email with photos and video of the damage. By the way, Joanne has been amazing throughout everything. She apologized and said she would send a tech out and we'd talk about a partial refund. A little over a week later, the tech(owner) arrives. As I started to show and tell him of the damage, he cuts me off, yelling, telling my I'm lying, his guys have worked with him for 30 years and there's no way they did this, etc. He's irate! Never apologizes for my experience, inconvenience, nothing! Just accuses my of lying. My husband is getting upset at this point because he's screaming at me. I'm trying to calm them both. He says he doesn't care about the client, just that his guys are not liars and he's been in the business 30 years. I try to show him the damage in the entryway, again he says he doesn't care. He tells me to take him to court, it's going to take forever anyway. I never mentioned court, not once! I just wanted him to calm down and assess the damage, repair and provide a refund. He went to get his tools to start the repair. I asked about the refund and he's says he's not giving me anything. At this point, I refuse the repair and say, well I guess I'll see you in court. He grabs his things and storms out. I'm so upset! It's beyond me that an owner of a business would behave in such a manner, in a customer's home! My son came out his room after he left, he gave me a hug and said "I'm sorry mom, you didn't deserve to be treated that way". This guy should be ashamed! Now I have the headache of going to court! I forgot to mention, he said he docked the guys pay. Why do that if you believe that they did no damage? He also said I wasted an hour and a half of their time. Excuse me! I paid them for their time. Melo & Sons was a life (couch) saver! We had already purchased the couch and our incredibly small, narrow, Boston stairs were not allowing it up under any circumstances! That was when Melo & Sons saved the day! They were really friendly and upfront, the price was more than reasonable considering we just paid a decent amount for the couch and REALLY needed it in the house. Also, they picked it up from where we bought it because we had to send it back to the furniture store when it was first delivered (attempted). Absolutely amazing service. I called for an estimate just this morning for their Knock Down Service. We have a sectional that we attempted at bringing in to our place yesterday but it just would not fit. We live in an old apartment in Boston where the door frames and hallways are very narrow. I called and spoke to Joanne, who was super helpful. She was able to give me an easy flat rate for our sectional. I informed her that our sectional was currently sitting outside because we had no other place to store it. She was able to add us into their schedule today! Here's my Story... I had bought a new living room set .. new couch and chair and I had purchased before I was moving and didn't know where I was going to be moving to yet. End up finding great place... a nice old building... with nice small hallways. Of course it was delivery day and when the day came they could not get the couch into my apartment.. so of course I cried a little and watched my new couch that I LOVED go back to Jordan's Furniture... when lo and behold Jordans said... wait... we deal with this company Melo and Sons that can take apart the couch and then put it back together inside your apartment ! I was like whattt??? I didn't even know that was an option! I left a voicemail with them on the same day and first thing on Monday morning the FABULOUS Joanne called me back and we got a scheduled appointment! As promised the day before she called to confirm and let me know that Mike and George would be coming.. and again as promised she called the day of the appointment to let me know they were 1/2 hour away. Mike and George arrived with my couch in pieces ! Two VERY nice guys ! Nice and entertaining. I just moved into a house which was originally built in the 1890s. The doorways are 23-24" wide and since we're renting it from my father-in-law (who wants it to stay exactly the way it was when he grew up in it) we're not allowed to widen anything (windows included, they're the same size!). But we have a GORGEOUS antique leather couch that we got pretty much for free that won't fit! I refused to give up on it and started searching the web to find a way to get the thing inside. There are a ton of businesses that disassemble/reassemble furniture in NYC, and I contacted a few of those companies to see if they would travel to NH with no luck (one company said they would come up here for $2000! No thank you!). Finally one of them suggested I contact upholsterers. So I started looking up upholsterers without a lot of luck there either, since many of them didn't appear to work with leather or just flat-out refused to disassemble/reassemble. Finally one gentleman agreed to come out and give us an estimate. He said it would cost $80/hour and it would take 12-16 hours to do the job!!! :( We sent him away, discouraged. Luckily a day or so later I heard back from JP Upholsterers, who suggested that I call Melo & Sons Upholstery. Well I called them and told them my situation, and without any hesitation at all they scheduled an appointment to come take care of our couch the following week. I was so relieved!!! They arrived today and promptly got to work without a moment's delay. It took them less than two hours to pull all the leather off the back of the couch and take it apart. And in doing so they found a car key that I thought I lost years ago! :D The couch was brought inside and reassembled without any problem. They even cleaned it for us! They were extremely professional and friendly and obviously knew what they were doing. I was so impressed! They even told me that the couch is older than I thought (60 years old!) and custom-made. I doubt my review will be as exciting as the Ghostbuster's remix, but I couldn't have said it any better: Melo & Sons provides a terrific service. Basically, couches from Texas don't mix with apartments from Boston, unless you call Lino and Mike from Melo & Sons. It was a great experience start to finish. The lady in the office who answered our call was super helpful and very informative. When the guys showed up (on time) a few days later, they walked me through the entire process before they began, putting me right at ease. They also explained from the get-go that there were no hidden fees, no matter how long it took. They took apart our couch and put it back together three floors up in about 30 minutes. They were artists! Our couch has never been stronger or looked better. Moreover, I've had couple bad experiences recently with service providers during our move, but these guys made me believe again that nice people do great business. Being from the neighborhood, the guys were extremely welcoming, even giving us restaurant recommendations. I can't stop raving about how good they are. I spent Wednesday night, along with a few other people, trying to get my new couch into the house. We gave it almost 2 hours, with the heat still in the 80s and the mosquitoes feasting on us. I got the couch at Jordan's in Avon in their clearance center. It had scuffs on one side from where someone else obviously tried to get this fairly long couch into their own house, but failed, just as I had. Those scuffs saved me almost $600 off the leather couch, but that's not much consolation when the couch is left on the deck under plastic and tarps. Thursday morning, I called Melo & Sons around 9:15. They were busy, and might be booked out until Saturday, Joanne said, but it was still early and she'd call me back, something like that. At 9:35, she called me back and said they could have people here (West Roxbury, MA) between 10:30 and noon, for $275 cash or money order. This was a no-brainer, considering the rain in the next day's forecast. I agreed about as fast as I could. I also had feared a much higher number, so I had no issue with the price at all. At 10:40 AM, Joanne called again and said they were 20-30 minutes away. Paul and Paul got to my house around 11. They left a little after noon. In the meantime, they were cool and friendly, answered any questions I had, but I don't think they ever stopped working, despite the 90 degree heat outside. They came with a single job to do, and they did it perfectly and quickly. Within half an hour or so, the arms and back of the couch were all separated from the bottom, and brought right into the house. In the next half hour, they put it all back together right in the room it now sits in. They left my house just a little after noon, I think. I believe the older Paul said he taught upholstery for about 20 years at a school in my area, and that type of experience shows. Quick and confident work. An easy recommendation. From the first phone call to when the 2 Pauls drove away, everything went perfectly. They accomplished something I had no chance of doing, they did it within hours of my asking, and they left no trace that they had ever even been there. Mighty impressive. Melo & Sons did an amazing job! My over-stuffed Jordan's couch would not fit up the front or back stairs. Without demolition, we did not have a window large enough for the couch. I called Melo & Sons for an estimate, and the price they offered was great. For reference, they quoted $275 to disassemble, move and reassemble my fabric couch. It was going to cost double for a moving company to hoist the couch, or to use a "medical sounding" competitor. For an extra $50 they also moved a loveseat upstairs for me. They showed up on time, and worked very quickly. They explained the process and took impressive care to keep the couch and my house clean. After they were done, they wrapped up the moving blankets in such a way that they did not leave a single staple or thread behind. They were polite and professional from start to finish. I can't believe how quickly they got the job done. Best part of the job is my couch doesn't squeak any more. I guess they put it back together better than it started. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! These guys are great :) When we opened our new real estate office inside of an old mansion, we soon found out that our large leather antique sofa & chaise lounge was too big to fit through the door into our office space. Most of the suggestions online said that sawing off the feet was the best option and either glueing or adding fasteners to it would do the job. There was no way that we were going to ruin the integrity of these pieces. Then we found Melo & Son's. After a brief phone consultation, I was instantly at ease. After literally tearing down a wall in our downtown apartment, we still couldn't get a new couch past through our entryway. Our couch sat outside for two days until we came across Melo & Sons. Two gentlemen arrived on time with little booties over their shoes, proceeded to disassemble the couch out in the hall and re-assemble it in our apartment. The process took no more than 30 minutes. Not only did they re-assemble the couch, they also made a point to tighten the joints and structure so that the couch was actually in better shape than before! I spent a while trying to find this "knock down" service in the Boston area. To save you time doing research, let me just say this type of service is hard to find in Boston but is more readily available in NY. If you do find a service online, it's likely a business based out of NY that contracts out the job to someone local. Support your local Boston businesss directly by calling Melo & Sons. Later on when the springs of the couch came unclipped, we called them again for help. They came out and fixed it quickly and didn't charge us anything for it, considered it a follow up to our earlier business. We really appreciated that. My only complaint about these guys is they are so one of a kind that they are incredibly busy and it took us over a month to get them to come out to our house and look at the couch when it needed to be fixed. Last year I moved from Brookline to Cambridge and all went very well, until my couch - my fabulous Mountbatten purple/pinkish, high backed, high armed couch - wouldn't fit through the front door. I almost cried as the moving company packed it up and took it away to some unknown storage facility (for a hefty fee)...I pictured a dingy, rodent-infested pit. Then I called Melo & Sons. They went to the storage facility, which was about an hour outside of town, picked it up (read: saved it), drove it to my apartment and brought it inside...one piece at a time. When I saw all of that fabric, stuffing, and bare wood I thought there was no way it would ever resemble my fabulous couch again. I am thrilled to say that I was very, very wrong. We live in Back Bay and if you know the brownstones in back bay, its really hard to even get a single chair into the apartment, let alone a pull out king-sized couch. We bought our couch from Crate & Barrel and they recommended melo & Sons to us, and thank GAWD they did. These guys came in and were complete pros. They picked up the couch from Crate & Barrel, and re-assembled everything piece by piece, shrink-wrapped the cushions so that they didn't get dirty, and even laid down a blanket on the floor so they wouldn't scratch the wooden floors. When it was time to move again, we called them again because we knew there was no way to get the couch out. They came on one of the hottest days of the summer, broke the couch down, and moved it down 2 flights and up 5 flights of stairs, and put everything back together.
