I've been a supporter of this place for years, have always gone here instead of choosing Guitar Center and always recommend people going here. That said, I think now I'll do my shopping online and recommend others do the same. Since last year I've noticed Pro Music go way downhill. Every time I go there the employees seemed way more concerned with taking smoke breaks and having conversations they shouldn't be having around customers. Nobody greets you, all the guitars have a layer of dust. I've even heard a conversation in which they're complaining that the shop is failing. If that's the case they're doing a terrific job at making sure that happens. No wonder your business is failing, how much do you do in gross sales vs how much is being paid to the excessive number of employees? I counted SIX people working last time I was there. All of them as useless as the next and I wonder how many of these people actually play guitar, or are just there to keep everyone high on meth? ​ I mean seriously,this place has the vibe of an alley in the middle of the East side. If I wanted to get totally ignored and hear some stupid conversations that should be private I'd go to guitar center. I'll do all my shopping online from now on. Screw this place. I highly recommend you do the same. read more

I haven't played guitar in decades. But after watching Stranger Things, I began to feel the itch. I am so happy to find myself in this store. I explained that I am feeling the itch to get back into playing guitar after not playing for a long time. I mentioned that I am a old metal-head. I found my first super-strat! Charvel San Dimas pro-mod. This guitar is awesome! I was really shy about trying it out at first. But they boosted my confidence and very encouraging. And closed doors and left me alone. 30 minutes later I am walking with my dream guitar. This is going to be my go to spot, looking forward to my next guitar adventure there. read more

Understand that my experience with Pro Music goes all the way back to Fred Boresi when his store was in two houses near Drake. My very first musical gear was bought there. My first good cymbals when I was playing drums. My first really good electric guitar. I moved away for a long time. Fred retired, Trent bought the place, and moved it out to Clive. They have been our go-to for years now. Both my wife and I play, and I know they will always have interesting things in stock. I know that they know what I like and need. They pay attention to their customers. When I get a new instrument, Ian knows how I like to have my guitars set up. And is wildly amused at my penchant for multiple tunings. And they know their gear. They all play. When we need something, they will be the first place we go. If they don't have it, they'll get it for us. They are, by a fairly large margin, the best music store in town. read more

This place has kind of gone down hill. Every guitar I picked up was either really dirty, out of tune, had a bowed neck...or all three. Many of the guitars have very high, uncomfortable action, including the "primo" guitars in the upstairs acoustic room. For the amount of time that the staff spends hanging around, eating carry out food and talking down out loud about other customers who they had to "deal with" recently, there's no excuse not to have them tune, clean and take care of the guitars. Honestly it kind of wrenches your gut. This place used to be a great store, and I remember the Last Chance days. There is a large selection of guitars here, but only a handful of them are guitars that you would likely consider life-long instruments or instruments to invest into, and even a smaller fraction of those are guitars that are set up properly. That's kind of a long way from the namesake - "Professional Music Center". read more

Professional Music Center is a fantastic choice for any musician whether you are a beginner or playing at Hoyt Sherman tonight. The selection of guitars is one of the finest I have seen in any mom and pop shop in the midwest. They also have a huge selection of guitar effects pedals and processors. They have an acoustic guitar room upstairs where you can fingerpick in a nice quiet room, because down stairs somebody is bound to be rocking "Iron Man," on a Marshal half stack. Professional Music also has a nice selection of drum, recording, and keyboard gear. They will also order you anything you could want. Also if you need lessons or your guitar neck set up, this is your one stop shop. Prices are right on, with most mom and pop shops and if your looking to buy a used guitar which I have done there, they even let me barter with them a bit! A place for beginners and pros alike! Electric and acoustic guitars and basses, ukeleles!!! And pedals. So many pedals. Electro Harmonics at decent prices, TC electronics, new and used, interesting small boutique pedal companies, and a very knowledgeable staff. If you describe what you need, they will put you in front of the equipment that will get you what you want. No upselling, just good quality equipment. And they special order! I went to Professional Music Center this week looking for a particular guitar that I had wanted for a while and heard that they had a couple of. I walked out with the guitar I was looking for and felt really good about the whole experience. The place has a funky fun vibe to it and the staff was great. I felt like they were motivated to sell me a guitar. I don't know how else to explain it. They were friendly and attentive and wanted to make a deal. They also know their guitars. In the mean time my wife found a strap for her guitar that was exactly what she has been looking for. Win win, we'll be back. read more

Friendly and knowledgable staff with a wide selection of products. From mid range beginner items to super high end professional series guitars costing thousands they have it. Really unique shop, love the strange taxidermy everywhere. They keep their products really well. Very nice store and they carry a great variety if accessories as well. Music shops are a tough business and really have to work hard to compete with Craigslist and Reverb.com The crew at Pro Music show you why a brick & mortar store is best when shopping for amps and guitars. The staff gives great respect to all customers. The kid buying his first guitar gets the same attention as the musician with all the money and knowhow. The selection at Pro Music is great. A great variety of lots of different brands (new & used) and all the accessories. His vintage and collector guitars are also quite impressive. This is not the big music store but is big enough. I have made this place my go to place for music equipment. If you were not happy they're not happy and that is really good in the business these days. I bought my Martin guitar as well as my amp and other equipment. Flynn and Trent are both stand up guys and will see to it you are satisfied. You can spend as much or as little as you want and you will always be treated professionally as opposed to other stores I have been to. If you are in the market for some pro gear give pro music a try. If they don't stock it they will order it. read more

I got my guitar amp and a surprise present of a Höfner bass for my husband here. The staff is outrageously helpful and really takes their time to help you find what what you want. Despite the fact that I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to electric guitars they smile and nod along and answer all my weird questions. I've been buying guitars, amps, and strings from Professional prior to its moved to the new location. Trent(owner) has done a great job reinventing it since it's move. Though I do miss the hallway leading to the basement full of amps and guitars, don't forget all the old oddities that had been there for years. I mean years! Moving forward, the selections of guitar/bass/banjos is simply amazing!! Either electric or acoustic whatever your preference is. Ranging from a lower end nicely priced around the camp fire choice to high end I got a paying gig tonight piece. I love dropping into the show room and playing new and used guitars, while I'm there to pick up strings. Professional also has the largest selection of peddles I've ever seen. They will even work out trades with some of your peddles you don't use for anything they have on hand. I'm a huge Martin fan and Professional has a huge selection of Martins in all price ranges. I don't think the name is by chance this is where DeMo professional musicians shop. Sure, you could purchase online, but I really like to play an instrument prior to purchase. Plus it's locally owned and operated! I know they give lesson in the rear of the store as I see people going in and out in the evening when I've stopped in. I've never taken a lesson here, but I'll bet they only hire quality tutors. It would be a place, if asked, that I would send someone. I almost forgot, Professional also has a large selections of drum kits, cymbals, and sticks on the second level for the foundation in anyone's band. read more

I have had really nothing but positive experiences with the store. They have good honest prices, they are definitely knowledgeable about instruments especially Guitar's, and super nice guys. Andrew has been very helpful setting up peddle boards, and seems to have a lot of knowledge concerning pedals as well. He helped me find the perfect acoustic pick-up for my live guitar setup. I know Ian personally, and there's something to say about a person who enjoys their job, which is working on Guitars. His work is excellent, and sometimes they run a great special that includes setting up your guitar and cleaning up the frets nicely. Not to brag on Guitar Center, but these guys are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Highly recommended! read more

Updating this review as I had a not-so-great experience trying to buy a guitar at Pro Music. I don't want to make this a long explanation so let's just suffice it to say that I was shopping for a specific guitar that would have to be ordered. I visited Pro Music on a few occasions leading up to gathering information, left my name, phone number, guitar I wanted, etc and was told I would hear back "pretty quickly". That was Friday at noon. After not getting any callback by late the following Tuesday, I called them and spoke with the same person who I gave the contact and guitar information to. It was as if I had never spoken with him. I had to remind him about the conversation we had specific to the guitar I wanted to buy, my name, phone number, etc all over again. I was told he would have someone call me with the information that I was after. I received a phone message later that evening asking me to call them back. They didn't leave the information I requested in the message. Just call them back. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I have made my guitar selection elsewhere. It arrives Friday. read more
