Absolute terrible work and zero craftsmanship. There should be a column for no stars. The contractor is an absolute fraud. Mohammed the owner came to our property in Manhattan. The job was estimated and work was agreed. The scope of the work was to remove and repair the main staircase and waterproof the outside of the building. The teardown went as planned. The renovation did not. The workmanship was poor and no attention to detail. A color was chosen and agreed. The color applied was a completely different and had a deep pink look. Mohammed continued to say, " It will dry and change colors." Not a year later, the color is still the pink and the final coating are falling apart. Mohammed and his team brown stoned our stairs upper and lower and re-concreted all our pathways at the end of 2024, so this a review for a year later. Almost everyone in our block had the pre-covid sidewalk violations including us so we had already had a dry run of selecting a concreting / brown stoning vendor then. We came into this job having an especially clear idea of what was actually important Vs what most over rate. We got six different written quotes, massive crazy range, Mohammeds was second to the lowest. What we prioritized based on that experience was first of all price (its essentially a commodity). Second was communication (its too much money, time, moving parts to risk even one miscommunication) these guys were tops here and next was everyones unprompted description of how deep the concrete would be, plans for reinforcing, timing between coats etc etc is it built to last. You get progressively more informed when you add all these together and what you want is the best/most solid build of all of them.The final question/criteria followed on from that, was, what does both the follow-up and the work quality guarantee look like - several wouldn't offer anything "its concrete you know it cracks", needless to say he was easily the strongest of the three finalists here too. Whats not so important is all of their references and pictures of great work, I'm sure the very worst option can point to five great examples. What we didn't factor in and in retrospect we should have was all the small and sometimes very significant touches and improvements that his team either made because it was obviously a better design and look. We hadn't thought or asked for a number of these aesthetic choices which clearly involved more work at an already agreed fixed price and maybe more than anything the positive surprise that you were not expecting spoke best to his Mohammeds honesty and professionalism. A year later it all looks great (ie the same no signs of any ware etc) a couple of minor things I wished they did differently (I'm stupidly detailed) but on absolute balance across a six week job from someone who reads reviews, try's to synthesize the objective truth in them, speaks to the DM's and try's to read how they will behave and of course compares them all using our own most important criteria above. I can't recommend Mohammed and his team highly enough. Picking vendors especially on the big and expensive jobs is totally stressful, we are grateful that we got this particular decision very right. I am sorry to say this but progressive contracting is no good anymore when we first hired the team to do one of our properties they did a good job so we moved forward with our other properties to ne done unfortunately his guy that did an amazing job died working on another building. And the team that ended up doing the rest of our building's was terrible we waisted almost $100,000 now we had to hire another company to fix all the water damage we are still dealing with bringing our costs to almost 200,000 now. Mohamid didn't want to take any responsibility at all and not even pay some of our money back totally dismissed the botched job done by him and his team. If i was you id look elsewhere. Where to start. First I shopped about 4 different contractors to restore my crumbling brownstone stoop. A couple crazy expensive estimates and one suspiciously low. Progressives price was right on target, and Mohammed was super responsive. The team they had working on my stoop restoration was respectful to me and my neighbors, clean, and did an impeccable job. I recently just finished a full Brownstone Facade Replacement. I wanted to detail my experience so that others can benefit from it. Property Address: 313 Hancock Street, Brooklyn, New York 11216 I purchased the property on August 11th, 2014. The paint on the Facade was peeling very badly. It looked really bad and one part of the windows had some cement that seemed as though it could fall off. I decided to hire someone to power wash the facade so I can see if it was worth just repainting it or if the Facade as really bad, have it replaced. Well, after the power wash, I couldn't believe all the holes which had appeared from years of deterioration and layers of paint. It was a complete mess and it really looked dangerous. I knew it was time for me to look for someone to do a complete Facade replacement. For about 1 month, I had several contractors come over to give me estimates. That included A. Malek, Excellence, Abbedin, etc. and lastly, Progressive Contracting run by Mohammad Hossain. The location is 88 Church Ave and his phone number is 347-341-3808. After speaking with Mohammad for a while so I can understand the process which included removing all the old Layers of cement until we get to the Brick, then apply the Rough Coat, the Slurry Coat, the Scratch Coat and finally, the Brownstone Coat. It was at that point that I decided Progressive Contracting with Mohammad would be the best to use not only because he came in a the most reasonable price, but also because he really took the time to explain to me the details of the entire restoration/replacement. I negotiated to have the entire Facade and Stoop restored, the Cornice scraped and repainted, the iron gates scraped and repainted, the inside of the stoop redone with Brownstone, the front yard concrete redone and also to repair any damage which eventually revealed itself such as very large gaps approximately the size of a rectangle around 1 foot by 3 foot hole in the facade which was covered up by paint. I can't even understand how that gap could have happened, but after the old layers were removed, I am so glad that I had hired someone to make these repairs. The first thing that Mohammad did was pull the permits for the Scaffolding. It's really key to make sure that you have all the permits in place. He then showed me the Insurance. I bet that there are unscrupulous contractors out there that won't even bother protecting the owners from liability. So I was glad that Mohammad showed me all his Rigging Licenses, the Scaffolding Permit, and the Insurance that he took out on the job. By Early December 2014, Mohammad put up the Scaffolding. He then had his crew begin work on removing the layers. Sometime at the end of December, the Scratch coat was placed on and the waiting time for the Scratch coat to cure took us to Spring. The crew then started the final coat. Because the old Facade was so warn out, the Crew had to use the next door Brownstone to see the details. They immaculately reproduced the details into the final coat. Once the Facade and Cornice was finished, the Scaffolding went down and it revealed a really awesome Job! I can't tell you how happy I was with the job! Anyone can come to my place and see it a I posted the address above. Mohammad then worked on the Front Cement and then I also hired him for the Sidewalk. Everything was done a few weeks ago around June 15th. I have to say it was a real pleasure working with Mohammad and his crew. They worked hard and did an excellent Job! My picture sizes are too big. Mohammad was the 4th contractor I invited to examine my roof leak and he was the only one who made me feel confident. He is prompt, professional, and very knowledgeable. He laid out the options and took time to explain the possible causes and the ways his team would investigate them. Mohammad and his team were always on time, cleaned up after themselves, and generally acted in a very respectful and professional way not often common with contractors in NY. After the initial fix, he and his team came back twice when I noticed that there was still a little bit of a leak on the side of the main affected area (which is super common with roof leaks). This is a WARNING to customers that Progressive Contracting will run away with your deposit and not perform any work! Progressive Contracting received $2000 deposit on a job consisting of installing a new roof, resetting the gutter and performing pointing work on the back wall of a building. The check was cashed immediately; however, the job never started. Mohamed kept making excuses for not starting the job. One excuse was that his truck was impounded, on the following day my calls were not answered. His final call was to say that he was in the hospital and that he would return the deposit. We had our Park Slope brownstone facade completely restored during spring/summer 2019. The work was done by Progressive Contracting under the supervision of Mohammad Hossain. The final result in terms of color, texture and masonry technique is everything we hoped for. Progressive also patched, primed and painted our wood cornice and it too looks great. There is no question that this type of restoration is a huge/messy project. It typically takes 4-6 months (for us April until mid-Oct.) but our final result is stunning. Even though we are not a landmarked block, I had read the backgrounder provided by the Landmarks Preservation Committee prior to deciding to go with Progressive. Also, another neighbor had used them and I was very impressed when their house was completed. With this kind of huge commitment, the homeowner must be available and communicate any concerns immediately; Mohammad and his team were responsive and immediate in their feedback. The scariest part of the job for me was selecting the color for the final coat of brownstone. So we took our time and asked for additional color patches before making our final choice. Another concern was our neighbors' properties on either side. Everything was washed down every workday. And at completion of our job, Mohammad personally oversaw the touch-ups that were required at my neighbors' homes (some patch and paint). read more

Like others, this guy just yanked me around. I actually got him to come out and walk through the the job, and he seemed legit. Granted this isn't a small job at all. Work on a roof, interior work, waterproofing, restoring masonry. I've gotten quotes from others and I expected a substantial quote. So this guy, Mohamed, came out, walked through the job. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about, broke down how he would address each issue. Fine, I say give me a quote. He seems like the guy to go with, actually. He says he will send me a quote. I sent him a thank you text with my address, and then.... Nothing, radio silence. I called, I e-mailed, I called and e-mailed. Crickets. What kind of business this guy runs, I don't know. Ive read others mention they thought it might be the size of the job, but I don't know. Maybe he's just a crappy business man? Whatever. We hired Progressive Contracting to apply aluminum coating and fix a leaky roof. They also power washed our floors and applied concrete coating. The floor looks great! I called Mohammad and team to work on multiple house repairs. They gave me a reasonable price and scheduled me within a few weeks. The team came and each specialized worker was assigned to specific repairs. The team completed the brick pointing, painting, and weather proofing. They installed a door and two new staircases. One staircase is a new limestone and brick staircase that looks amazing. They also replaced rotten wood columns holding up the roof to the vestibule with new brick columns. It's also no easy task to find a quality contractor that understands the importance of maintaining the integrity of these beautiful pieces of Brooklyn history. There were several improvements I sought to have done in my home within the next few years and I started with the brownstone and brick work on my stoop. I found Mohammed and his team on Brownstoner and gave him a call. He took a full inventory of the work I was requesting and gave me an estimate the next day. Before agreeing I also asked to see his previous work to ensure it was of the quality and craftsmanship I was looking for. We drove around Bed-Stuy take a look at a variety of projects and it all looked professional. In summer 2014 Muhammed completed work on the brownstone of my stoop/steps, pointing of the entire front facade and repainting of the window frames. Later in the Fall, when I was having trouble with the hinges on my front door, he and his contractors reframed the door and scraped/stained the wood. Can't recommend Progressive highly enough! They are polite, professional, easy to work with, and affordable. Mohammad is incredibly responsive and was able to work with my crazy schedule. They did excellent work repairing my leaking foundation, and are now my go-to with everything from custom woodwork to painting. I see some reviews saying it's hard to reach them - I never had that issue, but I always called their number directly. Mohammad actually tends to respond to calls and emails within an hour or two, so I'd recommend just calling directly instead of through Yelp. We were really hoping to have our sidewalk replaced this Fall and it was getting kind of late in the season. Mohammed scheduled an appointment with us right away for an estimate and came even earlier than expected. His team did a beautiful job. I arranged to have Mohammed come to see about a job at my property. He had given a price and I mentioned it was important to get started before I had painting performed. The job was for brick pointing surrounding my main steps. He quoted the price to be $1500 and told me "it was the minimum he could charge to come out for a day and a half". We agreed and he was supposed to send me a contract by email. Its been over 2 weeks and he told me he would call me thursday. I sent a text to still try to arrange this job and he blew me off. His customer service stinks. He knew it was important to get his part done before the painting on the interior. The painters are done and he left me hanging. My impression is that he might do decent work, but he's only interested in the big jobs and blew off my job. He didn't follow through with his contract, he didn't follow through with scheduling the job when needed, and he did not follow through on his word of getting back to me. read more

I hired Mohammed to replace shingles and repair window framing. The work was unprofessional and of the poorest quality. Roof shingles were applied without paper and without flashing but instead with huge amounts of caulk. Rotted wood window frames were not replaced but simply filled and covered with huge amounts of caulk. The team painted over lumpy unsanded work and even painted over window glass (no tape). Mohammed himself never showed but sent his "brother" instead. The entire process took 3 months and was never completed (After losing enough money, I fired him). The shingling that was actually completed still leaks rain inside the house even today. I have to hire someone at greater cost to remove the entire job and redo. I am not seeking reparation I am simply saving my fellow humans this team's horrendous workmanship. It borders on criminal. I agree that Mohammed returns calls promptly, offers excuses, and apologizes profusely but he cannot actually do the work. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY! read more
