DO NOT EVER USE PROGRESSIVE! Worst insurance company I've dealt with in 22 years. Progressive requested four photos of each side of my vehicles, plus registrations, to verify my policy. I sent all required documents as standard .jpeg files (which their system explicitly listed as an approved format) and received a confirmation email. That exact same night at midnight, I received an automated email stating my insurance had been canceled because they "never received the photos." When I called underwriting, they initially claimed they never received my email. Once I pointed out my confirmation receipt, they shifted their story, claiming the files were "corrupted." To test this, I forwarded that exact same email to five different accounts, every single one opened the .jpeg attachments perfectly. Progressive acknowledged they received the email and the attachments, but refused to help. They stated nothing could be done, the policy was canceled, and I still owed them $250, despite being on a month-to-month plan. When I offered to provide screenshot proof of the successful transmission, they said they don't accept screenshots. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the agent attempted a transfer and hung up on me. I called back and was told a supervisor would contact me within 24 to 48 hours. I've had Auto and Homeowners insurance with them for 2 years. My vehicle has been in 2 accidents. The first accident was a 1 car accident. They told me my policy didn't cover it so I had to pay out of pocket to fix it. The second, last month, it was struck by lightning. The lightning fried my computer system and caused my ceiling airbags to deploy. Progressive had it towed to the dealership, but refused to move forward until I could send them a video proof that I wasn't driving my vehicle with the airbags deployed. The lightning strike caused it to become inoperable and deployed my airbags, so why are they trying to separate the two and focus on the latter and not the whole picture? Homeowners Insurance: So in 2023, my policy was paid thoroughly by my mortgage company. Somewhere in the mix, they didn't receive my home security certificate from ADT, so I was charged $77. So my policy was canceled, then reinstated by my mortgage company, I'm thinking everything was taken care of. Then my policy gets canceled this year, I called to inquire, I'm told they took the $77 out of the reinstated amount which then left my policy short of $77. I asked why didn't they add the $77 to the reinstatement fee since that's the reason it was canceled? I left USAA for the increase on my policy, but they have NEVER been as outrageous as Progressive has. As a Disabled Navy Veteran, I should always stay close to military friendly companies anyway. I was a Progressive customer from 2020 until July 2025. They referred to me as a "Platinum+ Level" customer and gave me special treatment such as going to the front of the line when I called. I believed that meant something until I made the mistake of asking for a quote to combine insurance policies with my partner to see if we could save some money. That simple inquiry turned into a nightmare. During the quote process, when they found out my partner lived with me, Progressive took it upon themselves to unilaterally add them to my policy (raising my premiums significantly) without my consent. Despite my immediate objection, they refused to remove them claiming it was required by Utah State Title Code 31A-22-303. The problem? That law only applies to individuals related by blood, marriage, adoption, or guardianship. My partner and I are not married or related! In the eyes of the law, we are effectively roommates. When I pointed this out, Progressive backpedaled agreeing it was not the law, and had to admit it was their policy. So much for honesty! They were caught in their lie and now they were deflecting. They finally gave me the option to "exclude" my partner, but to do this, they demanded signed forms they would send by mail and proof of his separate insurance. This is none of their business! This is MY policy, and I will decide who I am going to pay for and insure under that policy! People provide proof of insurance to their lienholders and to the state. I am not responsible for providing proof of someone else's insurance to another insurance company! But it didn't matter anyway! Despite the exclusion, they still raised my premium! Their justification this time? If they were ever a passenger, they would cover their medical expenses. That coverage was already included in my original policy! So, either they don't understand their own coverage or they're deliberately lying to and misleading customers. Neither is acceptable! Let's be clear: Progressive's policy of forcing household members onto your policy is not about protecting you; it's about extracting more money. My partner has an older car that they are comfortable driving. They refuse to drive my car because it is newer, and they are scared of it. You cannot force me to pay more for someone who does not use my vehicle and is already insured for theirs elsewhere. That's not protection; that's money grubbing and piracy! Unfortunately, their corporate ambush gets worse. I shopped around and ultimately secured insurance elsewhere combined with my partner. Progressive could have had our business, but instead I canceled on July 17th. While shopping around, my payment of $99.50 to Progressive was charged on July 8th, so they owed me a refund. When the cancellation was processed, they offered me a laughable $38.50. The $99.50 was for a month of insurance! How can they take well over half the funds for a week of the service? When I demanded an answer other than it is prorated, they blamed the unauthorized addition of my partner. I never added them! They did! I objected the whole time, and now they are charging me, again, for someone already insured. That is not a prorated refund! That is THEFT! When I asked if they thought it was right to steal from me, their supervisors admitted it "seems wrong" but hid behind the policy. They explained that in other states they are required to do business differently but in Utah this is how they do it and they claimed no one in the company, no matter how high I go, could override it. That is a lie! Policies are written by people, and they can be changed by people. But Progressive chooses not to, because Utah's loose regulations let them get away with it. In other states, they are required to be decent. In Utah, Progressive exploits the gaps. Progressive is not in the business of protecting their customers! They are in the business of manipulating policyholders and maximizing profit at any ethical cost. Progressive's practices are deceptive, manipulative, and predatory. They gaslight customers, misrepresent laws, and refuse to take accountability. If this is how they treat a "Platinum+ Level" customer, I shudder to think how they treat everyone else. They are the Comcast of auto insurance companies. They need a whole new system and makeover. Whoever is in charge should clean house and start anew. Let's start with my story. I was talked into checking them out since my dad has 4 vehicles insured through Progressive at his address. I started living there temporarily and left Geico for the lower premium. That was such a mistake. Progressive has found ways to annoy me, upcharge me for the dumbest of things and ultimately cause me to cancel the policy within 2 short months. They have this odd part of their policy where they want to know who's living in your home and want to decide to charge whether they're on your policy or not. The lady basically told me I need to sign a driver exclusion form and pay $11 more a month because other people love in your home. She told me the forms will be mailed to me and I would have to mail them back or I could email them to her following her specific instructions via an email she would send to me. I never received the email. I did receive the forms in the mail however. They came on the 1st. I mailed them on the 3rd of December which they said had to be delivered to them by the 12th. All seemed well until I saw my next upcoming payment was increased to $548 for what seemed like no reason at all since the app doesn't seem to have any way to tell you why. I call them yesterday. Wait 16 minutes on hold, hear the dial tone which means I'm being connected to a representative, and I get hung up on. I call today and finally speak to a representative. She tells me she needs to review notes and places me on hold. Several minutes later, she hangs up on me. I call a 3rd time, real pissed this time. I stay calm even though letting the guy have a piece of my mind. No remorse, no apology or even acknowledging that I have been wronged. He places me on hold and says the increase is due to them receiving the driver exclusion forms on the 20th which is too late. I tell him there's no way snail mail took 17 days to reach you. He tells me I should've just emailed or faxed it to them. I told him that was the option I wanted to go for but it seems incompetence is a pattern among Progressive representatives. The man who arrived was from Pop-A-Lock, Austin. He had no tools and when we told him that we didn't either, he was rude and condescending to her. He said "You clearly don't know anything about your own vehicle." which was extremely rich, because he couldn't even figure out how to detach the spare tire from under the truck. He didn't help at all and left and we had to go buy tools to do it ourselves. I got my insurance from Progressive online. I was able to sign auto pay authorization and other forms online. I have arecent at fault accident and Progressive was $400 lower than the next closest company. I made a change to my policy and had to sign a form to keep the uninsured motorist coverage at the level I originally chose. When I got the letter from Progressive I only had a couple days to get it in and it was a weekend. I called customer service and was quickly helped by a knowledgeable friendly rep. So unfortunately , it is the date that you chose to have it started . It sounds like you didn't mean to do that , but that is the date that was chosen to have the account start so I just don't have the ability of backdating that for you I apologize I know that frustrating with the state of Nevada giving you a hard time . I just don't have the ability of overwriting it when that was the date chosen before . And after underwriting, but at the same time, as when you were making the payment to start the policy, if you hope you enjoy the rest of your day if you have any other questions, feel free to give us a call back right now..." He was nice.. then I noticed I was still being charged the $283 so I called and the lady I got connected to was completely rude so I asked for a manager.. long story short the lady I spoke to in the very beginning completely screwed me and no matter what I'm now owing them more money even though I never asked to change my current policy since I already paid it in full 5 months ago! I want to quit, but I can't find anyone else that fits my budget If you haven't already been sucked in... DONT USE THIS COMPANY.
