Having had experienced physical therapy several times over the past 40 years, I have never had a more positive experience than I did at Progressive Physical Therapy. I found the staff, attentive, knowledgeable and engaged in my particular process. My past experience with PT was always to be more sore and uncomfortable when I left than when I arrived. This was not the case in my current situation. I have continually felt stronger, looser and more pain free, after each session. It's very important to do all the exercises prescribed at home, and I am doing them every day. I had a sudden attack of frozen shoulder encapsulitis. It was overwhelmingly debilliating. My diagnosis was from the best doctor at Cedar Sinai, but living in the valley, I needed PT closer to be able to go the 3 times a week needed. I was in severe pain and extremely limited in motion.I had high hopes for Progressive initially. Everybody was so nice and very willing to help me make an appointment. during my first couple of visits it seemed like we were just trying to find our way through what I had and what I needed..the female pt was very nice, but seemed reluctant to lay hands on me..and I was given just the traditional electro-stim, heat and ice..I had no idea what I should expect and since I had so much pain, it was hard to think of pushing hard through range of motion...having said that, I went to a chiropractor who was much more confident of what he was dealing with. He explained what I might be able to expect and how to push myself. He did passive range of motion while 'actually' holding my arm and shoulder, (which progressive might argue that they did), but after experiencing it with a professional, I now knew what I needed help with...A LOT more than this place offered. I felt that I should give them more of a chance, but as I went I was so turned off by the open room where the therapists are juggling several patients, yelling out their next therapies, all the while chatting with the other employees about concerts, vacations, lunch and what was on TV..that might be fine if they could still concentrate on the patient in front of them! I went 6 times before I just couldn't bear it anymore. I have been a nurse for maaaany years and could never think to treat my patients with so little regard for progress and lack of privacy. I was so upset that I called the corporate office, but it seems that this massive chain has no actual head to it and everyone appeared concerned, but no one had any authority to address my issues. I had several conversations with Brian, who first said that I would not be responsible for paying any balance beyond what my insurance and copay was. I felt that I did not receive full treatment, so why should I pay full price? it was agreed. I then get a bill and am referred to Stevin, who said that she is the final word financially and that it is illegal to remove those charges (I believe that to be untrue). Stevin made some adjustment to amount and I was still upset with any balance since I was promised that there would not be and called Brian again. He said he would call Stevin. I never heard back from her and the next bill had a big red stamp on it, SENT TO COLLECTION!!!! I was furious and when I spoke to Stevin, she said she had no idea and that should never have happened, she never got my message as she never checks her voicemail at Progressive number and that she was NOT in charge of the billing!! (was she lying before?) Also, she said that I NEVER should've gotten that notice only ONE month later and not to worry about it!! It affected me greatly to think that I was being sent to collection! I am a responsible person and always take care of my bills! Not the kind of stress anyone needs, especially when you don't feel well! This has been one of the worst experiences..from top to bottom!..All the while, I am trying to recover from one of the most painful, debilitating injuries of my life! I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone, ESPECIALLY someone that is in pain and needs real help!! read more

I'm not kidding, it is a really nice, clean, relaxed atmosphere and everyone is there to help you. These people are REAL (no "LA" attitudes here) and the owner Ruth is such a kind soul. No one focuses on you. One therapist will see you for 5 minutes (if you're lucky) then send you to an assistant who has no idea how to treat you properly. They juggle patients around so the focus is not on you and your recovery but how they can occupy you / distract you with a general "exercise" (like lying on a foam noodle) while they juggle the rest of the patients. The last therapist I went there seemed like he might know what he was doing but he was juggling so many patients, it was clear we were never going to accomplish anything. The assistants were nice but did not seem knowledgeable or interested in physical therapy. read more

Ron Sarchian runs a great stretch class Wednesday evenings. It is relaxing and challenging at the same time. Ron tailors each class according to the participants' abilities, never leaving anyone feeling they are unable to participate and at the same time testing the limits of each person's capability. In my experience I have found Brian Hohl to be one of the finest physical therapist in the Los Angeles area. As a life long dancer he has helped me through hip, back, knee and shoulder injuries. His positive approach and professional knowlege is exceptional. I cannot begin to express how thrilled I am to have regained my strength and normal range of movement through his on going help. I had knee surgery in July 2013 to repair a torn ACL and meniscus. I started my physical therapy with Progressive PT. It's been absolutely amazing from the start. Brian is extremely knowledgeable in every regard. His ability to assess your issue, come up with a plan of action and ensure you complete it is without words. Coleen, Ruth, Andrea, Lauren, Julie and Cindi are all incredible. I've had physical therapy before at other places for a torn Achilles. The attention to detail at Progressive make other facilities seem almost amateurish. Their ability to push you to do what you obviously would prefer not to do is outstanding. The team effort between the staff is great and each one of them plays their position perfectly. If I could give six stars to this place I would. My knee feels great. I'm a very active person. I'm a PT, who Ruth took under her wing back in 1989 as a fairly recent grad, and gave me my start in working registry for her old company Therapists Plus. Her valuable insight and direction as to where management of outpatient PT practices were going were of tremendous value to me through the years. I took everything she taught me working in registry when I moved to Arizona in 1992, worked in private practice for 10 years, then in 1998 decided to "go it alone." thus becoming an independent contractor serving outpatient PT clinics around the Phoenix area (almost 19 years now). I took Ruth's advice to heart that "patient care comes first and foremost" and have based my entire career on her words and encouragement. It's evident that this rings true today with her patients. If one of my patients credit me with their compliments, I do not take it...I owe whatever I do to the outstanding PT's I have worked with over the years, and Ruth was at the beginning of what I look back as my successful career as a PT.
