I wanted to update my earlier 5 star review to highlight the fact that this is an independent, privately owned pharmacy. When you call the pharmacy, a real human being answers the phone! Sometimes it's a pharmacist, but if it isn't, you will be put through to one, not subjected to a recording that gives you the 3rd Degree so it can deny you access to a pharmacist. You will never be put on hold for extended periods of time while being forced to listen to traumatizing "on hold" music. ProHealth has an extensive inventory of the best vitamin and mineral supplements. They also have essential oils, interesting personal care brands that you won't find in other stores, and a constantly changing supply of delicious snack products. I've been a customer since the store opened, 25+ years. The owners and their team are wonderful people. read more

Independent pharmacies often have unusual items for sale apart from medications. Prohealth is no exception. As one goes to pay chocolates beguile. Temptations galore. This time however there was Dubai Chocolate. Yes, that charmed chocolate is still being made and sold. This time it was a set of two bars attached to each other. Viral Set is red and is angel hair (not the pasta) of a milk chocolate bar with Turkish cotton candy and pistachio filling. The other bar is green with a crispy kaddalfi and pistachio filling. These two bars are a version of the authentic Dubai bar created in Dubai, UAE. Price? High. As I always have a budget, I rarely get a bar unless it's tiny and inexpensive. Now I have yet to see a small affordable Dubai style bar at ProHealth. However, the joy I get in making Dr. Alex and Miguel laugh about it is all I need! read more

I love ProHealth Pharmacy; when I walk a Gramercy Park dog named Kula, I often stop in here. (It is known by many that pharmacists are just as knowledgeable about health and treatment of illness as many doctors!) They are incredibly well-stocked, and I get many of my supplements here now; I couldn't find L-tryptophan anywhere, so I looked and found it here. I recently reached out to ProHealth Pharmacy at the direction of my medical provider, who has worked with other clients who have successfully filed the same prescription there in the past. I made the call politely , explaining that I was reaching out at the behest of my practitioner and then provided the name of my medication. The male who answered the phone mumbled something that I believe was a "no" and then abruptly hung up. I was left feeling dismissed and disrespected. It's quite something to realize that this pharmacy has enough clients to disregard potential new patients in need of assistance. As a store that markets itself as family owned and neighborhood friendly, I would caution anyone seeking compassionate care or respectful service. This business clearly lacks both. Avoid ProHealth Pharmacy at all costs unless you don't mind experiencing poor customer service when reaching out for something as important as your monthly maintenance. read more

A new pharmacy in an old neighborhood . I asked Anton questions and the pharmacists were all nice and patient. Not a lot of stock but seems like nice people. Like many smaller mom pop places not sure they accept my insurance they seemed to want ppl online to pay for their prescriptions. All not unusual today but clean, and nice people. I've been meaning to write a review for this Mom & Pop Pharmacy for years, but I can be very slow at times... I've been a customer at this Pharmacy for at least 5 or 6 years now because I just couldn't stand using Duane Reade or CVS anymore as they were always rude and nasty and took a very long time to fill my prescriptions... And, when I'd go in to pick up a filled prescription, I ALWAYS had to wait for someone to saunter over to hand it to me... It was as though they were doing me a favor... I am so grateful that I've tried Pro Health Pharmacy years ago... I could NOT be happier with my choice... ALL the Pharmacists at this store AND those who work the front desk are pleasant and helpful... Unlike Duane Reade or CVS, you get personal attention from people who are very knowledgeable; NOT rude, and, they will deliver your medications if you request that service... They also answer their phone and you can speak with a Pharmacist if you have a question or a concern... Plus - they fill your prescriptions very quickly... I've only been here once and I'll not return. I came in to buy insulin syringes which I use for my medical condition and the guy at the counter I suppose assumed me to be a serious drug user (even though I was dressed like the office worker that I am -- but perhaps because I'm not white...) and was very rude to me and refused to sell them at first. Then I informed him of the Expanded Syringe Access law which he didn't seem to know about. Then he asked someone if they had the syringes finally and she threw them on the counter in front of me. DON'T come here if you have medicaid. I was prescribed a covered medication and, after calling ProHealth to confirm they take medicaid, had my prescription sent over. When I went to pick it up, they charged me 15$ for it- I said it should only be 1$ (which is written on my health insurance card). They said it cost more than the insurance would cover. That night, I called my insurance company to get reimbursed, and the rep called the pharmacy to find out what happend. Turns out, the medication cost 10$, he billed it as 23$, and the insurance company said they would pay 5$ for it. So the pharmacy simply charged me as if, not only I didn't have insurance, but MORE than the medication costs in the first place. The pharmacy owner implied that he had explained this to me, when he hadn't. The insurance rep had such a difficult conversation with him that she ended up hanging up on him. What is the point of insurance if pharmacies don't respect it? I get that he's a small business owner - I came here in the first place in order to support a local busines. However, this blatant disregard for how insurance works is not ok. I wonder how many people he's done this to, and for how expensive of a medication. ProHealth made 5 dollars but lost a customer with their deceipt and absolute tackiness. read more

Guy at the counter compared me not wanting to pay $80 for 12 pain pills to him not wanting to pay for a new BMW. The pain pills are for a stage 4 illness. When I asked for them to call my insurance to see why 12 pain pills for a major surgery cost $80 they said no. I said I wanted the pain meds bc of how major an operation it is - the insensitive (I'm being civil here) bro behind the counter said "I want a BMW but I have to pay for it, you know? It's the same thing." Unless you want to be epically shamed and treated like trash, avoid these garbage people at all costs. And no, wanting some flashy car (aka codpiece) for your ego isn't the same as pain meds for a stage 4 illness surgery. read more

Alex was extremely helpful and accommodating with my Covid testing. I had to return 3 times to get a Covid test 3 days in a row due to travel and flight issues and he helped me immensely. This place was recommended by my doctor so I called to get my meds. The person on the phone was SO RUDE as soon as the conversation started. I tried to keep calm and continue but it was just too much to handle. I cannot understand how this guy can be employed. The other Prohealth Pharmacy below Grand Central was my pharmacy for all my medication, but they just closed. The wonderful people there told me that they had another store on Second Ave. It was farther away, but all the pharmacists at the Lex Ave were so great that I thought these people would be great too. Wrong! I had my doctor send in two electronic prescriptions and I called and spoke to the pharmacist to see if he got it and when I could pick it up. He told me he could only fill one of the prescriptions. I thought he meant he had to order the other one, but he said that was not the issue. The problem was that he disagreed with how my doctor had written the prescription - I kid you not. I have never had a pharmacist decide to overrule a doctor, if they are not sure the prescription is written correctly, they call the doctor, but this man flat out refused to fill one of them. And he was nasty about it. I called my doctor and had them cancel it and send it to another pharmacy. It is even further away, but the pharmacist is very nice. If I wanted unpleasant, I would go to CVS!!! read more

I have used Pro Health's store on 2nd Ave since 2001. (another location on Lex south of 42nd). They always have what I need. The entire staff makes me feel at home and doesn't just treat you like another customer. They will mail medications for a price unless it is regular mail. The longest time I have waited is 20 minutes. If they don't have it in stock (a very rare occurance) they will have it in the following day. They have a vitamin specialist Jose, who is extremely knowledgeable. All of the pharmasists are wonderful. I don't live in the area but go out of my way because they go out of their's. In addition, they carry over the counter products and high quality hair brushes, fine candles, makeup, fine chocolates and Dr Hauschka products. The store on Lex had Lug purses/backpacks, and you want to spend extra $ because of their fine items. (Both stores). I just realized you can do refills online. Thanks to everyone! Liz D. read more

I LOVE this place. They have a huge selection of vitamins and holistic and natural products. The prices are great et cetera but.... What really makes this place so great is the staff. They are so knowledgeable and really helpful without being pushy or nosey. I had a minor skin irritation from a laser hair removal procedure and the employee at prohealth advised trying calendula oil. After trying everything else for a week, I woke up the next morning with smooth and healthy looking skin. This is one of about 5 circumstances where they really helped me out. I now get my Rx's filled here instead of the CVS on 3rd ave (the worst store known to man ugh). Prohealth is a great shopping experience! Everyone should come here! read more

With urgent cares around the country overwhelmed with the holiday rush and labs not turning around results quickly I booked an appointment here the night before a flight. Was not sure that I would get my rapid PCR results in time but they made sure I got them within the 15 minutes as promised. Quick and easy service. Very efficient and communicative. What an interesting little pharmacy! This is the place to find foreign, exotic and herbal remedies that you can't find in those chain pharmacies such as cvs or Duane reade. The staff are extremely helpful and dropped what they were doing to look for a certain product I needed. Unfortunately, they didn't have it, but they pointed me in the right direction: amazon! I recently switched to this location because the location nearest to my house on Lexington closed. Filling my prescription here is like pulling teeth. I've waited almost 2 months for one prescription. This would have never happened at the Lexington pharmacy. The pharmacist legit asked me to call the doctor back because he said they were hard to reach. When I called, the doctor asked why didn't the pharmacy call. Smh. I had to walk in ask what was going on with my prescription to get an update that's when the pharmacist was like ohh I'll call them. (I'm still waiting) My daughter's prescription was also filled and not a soul reached to tell me it was ready. I used to get calls, updates right away and/or even provided with different options if my copay was too high. I don't even get an explanation when I pick up our meds anymore. The Lexington pharmacy always provided detailed instructions extremely warm staff. Unfortunately it's time to look for a new pharmacy this place feels like the factory known as CVS. What a shame. I can no longer count on them like I did at the Lexington pharmacy concerning my health and daughter's. read more

I said I could provide the prescription verification number, I just didn't want to travel in snow just to find out they were out of stock. Conversation ended with man hanging up on me.
