Prohibition is one of my favorite places in north county. The food, beer and staff are all really great so what more can you ask for?! The only food item I've been meh on was the turkey burger but everything else has been mmmmm good. (beer cheese with the pretzel.. drooooool) The avocado enchiladas are probably still my favorite but I've tried to expand my horizons as of late. I highly suggest drinking their beers but they also have a selection of other breweries beers. I tend to drink wheat beers and they have really great and stronger wheat beers (Hef-U-Up is my fav). Some solid food nowadays. We go with the anticipation of getting what we are desiring of their menu. Good burgers, sandwiches, fries and killer (very consistent over the last few years) onion rings. They have expanded into the back area and into the building next door for brewing capacity. Service seems to have always been great most recently; a huge change from the days of first opening. Pretty disappointing, I was a fan of this place up to the last time we went. It is definitely the last time I will go there. I ordered the patty melt, was excellent the first time I had it, medium it came out rare. No biggie, I just asked them to bring up the temp. Far off the Hops Highway but still in the land of beer (aka Vista), you'll find the Prohibition Brewing Company. Like the red-headed stepsister, it's sits alone, far from the other breweries. But it's worth the drive. However, not for the beer, but the food. Yep, you read me right. Don't come for the beer. Come for the food. The beer is just average, neither good nor bad. Hence the 4 star vs 5 star review. Because if "Brewing Company" is part of your name, brewing should be part of your game. But the food is where Prohibition Brewing Company shines. The food is well thought out flavorful, creative food that's reasonably priced with generous portions. Came with Bonnie G and Karen N and we ordered Wings (Lemon Pepper and Sweet Chili) and a Pretzel with Cheese Sauce to share. Sweet Chili wings were a good combination of hot and sweet and mild enough to not sear your lips. We each ordered our own entrees (check out their reviews). I couldn't decide between the Proco. Mac & Cheese (choice of bacon, chicken, spicy andouille, or broccoli and ProCo. Cheese sauce) or the Loaded Potato Volcano (Potato stuffed with bacon, broccoli, and cheese sauce wrapped in bacon). So I got both and a pint of Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. :) OMG!!!!!!! Cheese and bacon overload. You gotta love it! And when they say loaded, they mean loaded! Most places only give you a tiny bit of bacon, but Prohibition piled it on! A Pro-Zookie (chocolate chip cooked baked in cast iron skillet topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce) rounded off the meal. Appetizer, entree, dessert, and a beer all for only $34.69 + tip. Well done, Prohibition, well done. Can't wait to come back and try the Pear Pizza. Tip: Reservations not accepted on Friday and Saturday after 5:30pm. If you're looking for a quiet romantic restaurant, this isn't the place. Prohibition has been on my radar for a while and I was finally able to try it a few days ago. I arrived early on a Saturday night before my Yelp girls and there wasn't a wait at all. They gave us a corner table and our server, Olivia quickly approached me and realized I was waiting for a few more people. Then she said those magic words..."What can I get started for you while you wait?". A flight of beers were ordered and quickly brought. Once my Yelp girls arrived, we ordered a ton of food. There were two orders of mac and cheese- one had bacon, one had sausage. One loaded volcano potato...pictures speak for themselves. Once pretzel with beer cheese dipping sauce. Hot wings. Once chips and salsa (free from and email offer). Once frisco burger with truffle fries. Oh, and then yes...their cookie dessert even though no one finished any of their meals. The food here is outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu and how varied it is, plus they also have specials. I couldn't finish my burger and had to bring it home. Shame on me. I may lose my burger eating champ tiara or something. I enjoyed my flight but the blotto blonde and oatmeal stout were my favorite. Olivia was a delightful server. I was able to bring my parents here for lunch and give them a taste of where I like to enjoy some good beer, great food and excellent service. Once again, they made me a happy customer. It was so nice that my parents could experience the same quality of service. It is quite awkward when you rave about a place, bring your guests so they can experience the same and you are embarrassed because that was not the case at all. Well, it was two thumbs up here, whew! We ordered the flight, and my dad enjoyed the Hef U Up, and ordered a pint in addition for him. Our appetizer was the Sampler platter and my parents were full just from that dish. Their faves from the platter, the Loaded Potato Bites and the Onion Rings. Of course, I had to get the Pretzel (one of my faves). My mom enjoyed that very much, especially with the ProCo. Cheese Sauce, mmmmm good! My order was one of the specials, Tomato Basil Bisque with grilled cheese sandwich. The thick soup is full of flavors, and when you dip that grilled sandwich in... it's like food heaven... My father ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and chose the onion rings for the side since it was delicious from the Sampler Platter. Although being full from picking at the Sampler Platter, that did not stop my father from devouring all of his Philly sandwich. My mom had the Carne Asada Fries. She was quite happy with the dish, but was unable to finish. We were pleased with the great food. There were some leftovers to take home. My dad enjoyed the place so much, he wanted to go home with a shirt. My dad is a proud, retired Marine, if he is wanting to wear a shirt with a business logo he is proud to say he ate there and let the town know! Judge for yourself and give the place a try. My friend chose Prohibition for his birthday dinner so my boyfriend and I made the trek up from Del Mar to check it out. And boy is it a trek! It seems that driving to Vista is a journey in itself but Prohibition is still another ten or so minutes north of the 78. As we were driving, we kept wondering if we were headed in the right direction as the surrounding area doesn't look like the place for a brewery. When we eventually arrived, I must admit that Prohibition wasn't what I was expecting and doesn't have the same brewery feel that others, like Karl Strauss and Ballast Point, have. However, in terms of restaurant, it was pretty good. They have quite an expansive menu and our table of four ended up with a burger, a sandwich, a teriyaki plate and enchiladas. I chose the prime rib dip and upgraded my side to the truffle fries. The sandwich was gigantic and had great flavor. I was pleased that the prime rib was trimmed well as I hate fatty chunks on my meat. The fries were a slight letdown, though, and it seemed like the truffle was a bit skimpy. In hindsight, I think I would have preferred the seasoned fries instead. My meal ended up being plenty for two meals and I enjoyed my leftover sandwich for lunch the following day. I'm not a beer drinker but my boyfriend tried a couple of the beers. We jokingly asked the waitress if there's anything special for a birthday and she ended up bringing the birthday boy a complimentary beer, which was a nice touch. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this little brewery off E Vista Way! I started off my meal with their Proco IPA - delicious, traditional, hoppy and piney (as any good IPA should be). It was yummy enough that I opted for another! Also, I want to note that their beers are wonderfully priced! An average pint will only run you about $5.75, a far cry from the $7-8 pints found elsewhere in Vista - and during happy hour (4-6pm) their house pints are only $5. As for food, I got their chicken tortilla soup (without the cheese on top). This was the perfect choice for a slightly chilly night outside on their patio watching one of the bands they have playing on Friday nights. The band was a wonderful group playing the blues and I hope to go back to hear them again! Back to the soup, it had lovely chunked of pulled chicken, various veggies, was topped with fresh avocados, and was even served with a side of extra tortilla chips! I recommend asking for a side of their green/tomatillo salsa to go with the extra chips - it was delish! Although their menu online doesn't have any prices, most burgers range from $12-15 and sandwiches run you $10-14. They also have some larger entrees with a variety of prices ranging from $12-21 (upper end including some good looking cuts of meat). Prohibition is a great spot to meet with friends for a casual pint for a good price, and if you're hungry, the food is better than at most breweries and is also a reasonable price for the portions. Wow! Too bad y'all are hiding out in the depths of Vista almost Gopher Canyon because what a treat you are. My daughter and I stopped in for lunch and we sat ourselves in the bar area. Our server was very sweet and commended our food choices! It was tough to not order more. The beer selection is awesome! They have all the right food to pair up with beer. For a last minute surprise bday party, we couldn't be happier. From the beginning the staff was helpful, nice, and accommodating. My sis in law reserved some tables in the back room. When I arrived to to decorate they had a table set up on a small stage (for cake,presents) Staff offered to help with the decorations, they were welcoming, kept great record of evryones tab, and always came by to check things were to our satisfaction. We did try some food, mac n cheese was great (and a hit with kids) teriyaki burger awesome; wings good. Overall the experience tonight was perfect! For those of you familiar with NC, it's right across the street from Ciao Italian restaurant. Spacious atmosphere with a bar and restaurant. Disappointed with the limited amount of TVs (we were watching basketball) however. We ordered a couple beers (ale and hef) and then a (Swiss) cheeseburger ($9) and spicy polish dog ($7). I ordered the ale and I didn't care for it, so I switched it out for the hef. Entrees come with a side of fries. The service was great. Our server answered all our questions and was attentive. Even those this place is really close to us, this was the first time we frequented the place. It's an interesting location, next to a church and soon to have some new houses across the street. There's a lot of construction on Vista Way at the moment, so it makes this location even more of a challenge. The actual space has a lot of prohibition era photographs, copy, etc. We ordered an oatmeal chocolate beer and some sodas. The guys had fish and chips - my son had a side of onion rings and I ordered the pulled pork carnitas and fries. The service was okay, while the waitress noticed that my son was out of soda (twice), not once did she refill my soda. I sat with an empty glass for half of my meal - (and this was my birthday lunch)! The fish and the onion rings had obviously been in the same deep fryer. You could taste a little of the fish on the onion rings. The same batter was used on both - while it's not like a tempura batter, it's definitely more dense. The pulled pork carnitas was excellent! Very moist and delicious. We ordered dessert since it was my birthday and asked for the caramel brown sundae. What was delivered was a brownie with a little caramel and whipped cream - no ice cream!!! When she delivered it I asked if it was the brownie sundae and she said yes, so we split it three ways. The brownie was delicious, but just not the same without the ice cream. When the waitress dropped off the check and picked up the plate, she asked how we liked the sundae - we did mention it had no ice cream. We finally made it to the Prohibition Brewing Co. Took us ONLY 2 years, talk about procrastination! We choose the Coulotte steak special. Garlic mash potatoes, a trio of steamed veggies - carrots, broccoli and zucchini. If you fancy a tender, thick and lean (still juicy tho) steak, you have to order this cut of beef. What is a Coulotte??? Yes, the French have taken credit for this cut but some of the common names are; Sirloin Strip Sirloin Top Butt Cap Top Sirloin Cap Steak The marinade or rub that was used prior to grilling was phenomenal! Nevermind the great value of this $pecial, the beefy flavor is what matters. If you love the flavor of beef jerky, this is the dish for you. We came just before the dinner rush so plan accordingly. Came here a couple weeks ago. I love this place. They were doing orders to go and you could enjoy your food and drinks on the patio. Which was perfect for watching football. They even have TVs on their patio! I got the street tacos and a salad. Street tacos are delicious and perfect if your not that hungry. The salads are fresh and they make their own dressing (super good). The table also got coconut shrimp (bomb), and a couple burgers which were on point per usual. We split the skillet cookie and ice cream dessert thing which was soooo good! The beer is good and they even have mimosas if your not feeling a beer which half the table got.
