This time I stayed away from the brisket sandwich that usually has huge chunks of fat, but this time my choice of sandwich was ruined by the stale, hard bun on which it was served. This restaurant is a marginal 4. I think my expectations coming into it were low, and it exceeded them but not by much. The food was good, my brisket was tender and flavorful. The fries were not that good. You got to choose two sides of barbecue sauce with your meal I went with the chipotle and hot. But I couldn't even really taste much of a significant difference in flavor between the two. If you come here for barbecue, you will get barbecue. The plates are a decent portion, although I think slightly overpriced for the overall quality. That being said, the service was good and the small town ambiance was nice. I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. The bar was full, with a few people eating at tables. The space is decent, they have a bunch of tvs (playing the Cubs while I was there), and they have an old NES set up in one corner! I had chicken fingers, which were decent. Crunchy, but not a lot of flavour. There was a range of sauce options; I went with a sweet mustard, which was also kind of meh. They had over a half dozen draft options, and I tried a new cider I'd never had before. The server brought me a small sample to try before bringing the pint without me asking, which is great service. All told, decent place. I might go back if I'm in the area and need lunch. Service was fantastic. read more

I l'm living in a hotel while caring for my senior dad who is in hospice, and I'm really sick of assisted living food, plus I wanted to see the beginning of the Illini game and grab a sandwich and a drink, but lesson learned: I should've gone to It'll Do. Since I'm an invisible 60 year old woman and I dared to come in alone and sit at the bar I couldn't get the time of day for better than 10 minutes (or at least the last 4:23min of the first half.) . But otherwise, expect her to tend to her fellas without so much as giving you any eye contact that she sees you. Stopped in for the first time last night and was really impressed. I tried the wings, pulled pork, slaw, cheese curds, and cornbread muffin. The wings, pork, and curds were excellent. The meet was moist, tender, and flavorful with a nice crispness to the wings. The curds where a great combo of crunchy breading and soft gooey cheese. The sauces I tried were good (hot bbq and peach). The muffin was just okay, though the honey on top was a nice touch. The beer selection was solid and included some nice local favorites. The ambiance reminded us of BBQ places we've been to in Nashville...perfect for a low-key BBQ joint. The overall meal was excellent and we look forward to going back. A great eatery in the countryside of central IL in the small town of Mahomet. I had the 2 meat bundle and chose the brisket and the chicken as my 2 meats. The plate also had a house made cole slaw a premium side of Mac & Cheese and a small peace of cornbread doused in some honey. They also brought me a selection of their sauces which were 6 in all that were, Original BBQ, Mango Habanero, Carolina Mustard, Kansas City Peach, Raspberry Chipotle Bourbon and the Sauce of the month. On the BBQ plate, the brisket was fantastic. The meat was very juicy, tender and succulent. The chicken was slightly dry but was juicy and very good. The Mac & cheese was good but not the best compared to other places. The cole slaw was great as well. Not mayonnaisey yet a little tangy and the cornbread delicious, soft and the right sweetness with the honey added on. Finally had the apple pie for desert and a house made Ice tea to drink. Really wanted to give four stars but unfortunately there have been too many inconsistencies in service. We have been here a number of times and have certainly through trial and error found the hidden gems on the menu. The smoked wings are by and large the best item. We've had brisket and ribs a handful of times and sometimes they are moist and other times they are dry. The chili is amazing. The flavor of the beer really comes out and I love getting it over the fries. Service is more often than not rough. There seems to be a rotation of fresh young faces. One of the more recent times we were there it had to have been our servers first or second day. And while I have grace for being new, I fault management for just throwing her to the sharks without partnering her up with a more seasoned server to teach and train. Overall we will keep going back, but be prepared for hiccups. read more

This is the best BBQ place in my opinion in all of Champaign county. Forget Black Dog and Hickory River. Their meats are always juicy and flavorful and I love their array of bbq sauces. (My favorite is the raspberry bbq sauce) unpopular opinion: their smoked chicken is very good with ranch. I always get the cold slaw and tator tots for sides. For Thanksgiving this year we ordered their smoked Turkey and we were SO impressed! Super flavorful and moist. Why would we go back to making our own Turkey? They no longer carry jalapeño slaw although it's still on the menu, so got regular instead, it was okay. The bbq chicken sandwich was 10/10 very good. The Mac and cheese was very very greasy. It was $47 (before tip) to get this to go and the service wasn't the friendliest. I'd give it another shot, but perhaps dine in instead! read more

We were in Mahomet on business and stopped here for a late dinner. They weren't very crowded so we didn't have to wait for a table. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich with tater tots and draft beer. DH ordered the Sloppy Jake burger with no cheese and hush puppies as a side. The menu isn't clear that a side comes with the sandwiches so we had planned to order hush puppies as an appetizer, so the server changed it around and he got them as a side. The sandwiches were good, but very large -- it's plenty of food. The hush puppies are probably frozen but they were OK. Wouldn't order them again. My beer was almost flat so I would probably order a bottle next time. It's very, very loud here and more like a bar than a restaurant. read more

Ever since we moved from NY to Urbana about 5 years ago my family members have been loyal fans of Black Dog. I am happy to say that (IMHO) brisket, fries, and polish sausage are much better at Project 47 than in Black Dog. Fries are crispy and brisket is juicy and flavorful here. It also does not help that due to COVD-19 Black Dog stopped serving fries and beef ribs. Beer selection at Project 47 is reasonable while a bit more narrow than at Black Dog: local Mahomet brewery + Revolution IPA from Chicago and some other regional microbreweries are on tap. read more

Was excited to find this place on a rainy day for a late lunch. It's atmosphere was somewhere between a nice restaurant and a mediocre lounge. The smells of bbq smoke made everything sound delicious. My husbands Mac n cheese was delicious and very large serving. I love smoked wings but the quality of chicken was just terrible. Look at the feathers on them after smoking and then deep frying them. We didn't try other meats but I hope the quality was better than the chicken wings. Really enjoyed the beers from JT Walkers brewery. read more

I had the pick two plate chicken and brisket with a side of potato salad and Cole slaw the brisket was very tasty and the chicken breast was seasoned well but underwhelming on the portions heartiness. The potato salad and Cole slaw were not sides I would have again especially the potato salad. Servers were unengaged and didn't have suggestions or mention specials or what they enjoyed, anything. Both of them seemed like they did not want to be there. Not very welcoming. I did like the decor especially the airplane hanging from the ceiling as I'm a veteran. This place is a gem. I was in town visiting a friend who suggested we get bbq. I live in Chicago and love all types of bbq, but only if done right. It's clean and everyone is very friendly! I started with an Old Fashioned. My friend stuck to sodas. They have a decent selection of whiskey and beer. Definitely a great watering hole. I wanted to try a little of everything so I ordered the 4 meat platter. Wings, ribs, pulled pork and brisket. I figured I'd take home what I couldn't finish. (Spoiler alert: there was nothing left to take home). The weakest meat on my platter was the brisket. It was really good but I like mine much more moist. It was still really good. I would put some sauce on it next time. Next were the ribs. Home run. Really great flavor and done perfectly. I'd pull off the highway for them ;). Great rub and beautiful color. Not over cooked and so tender. Next the wings. I'm a wing fanatic and I've only found one place that had bbq-smoked wings that were good but not a home run. This place rocked them! If the ribs were a home run then the wings were a grand slam. I'm sorry I didn't get an order to go. There only three on the platter which is perfect. Really meaty large wings with a sweeter flavor and just so damn perfect. Finally the pulled pork was the best of the night for me. Flavor, moist and did I say flavor!!! We've stopped by here twice in the past 6 months here on our drives from Ohio to Iowa. It is an amazing stop for BBQ. Their mac n cheese is to die for. There wings and ribs (when available) are very well spiced. They have so many great southern food options. If you're craving a little spicier sauce, I suggest taking the #1 original BBQ sauce and asking for Tabasco sauce to spice it up a little. But many of the meats need no sauce at all. The sauce with the hush puppies is addicting and the cornbread is served in a beautiful puddle of honey. I 100% reccomend if you're ever near Champaign, IL. read more

We ordered two appetizers. Unfortunately, the website stated each appetizer cost $9. Once we made our purchase the actual cost was $12 and $10 with an additional 5% for carryout. The fries were soggy and not done. We ordered just cheese fries but were still charged like they had chili on them. The portion size was SMALL. I could have purchased french fries and queso on my own. (Note to self). The queso fundido was really good. Just a big disappointment on serving size especially with those prices. read more

Their burgers were okay. Just okay. Then I ordered their "smoked" wings. It took me the rest of the day to try and remember not eating them. Zero flavor from "smoked" wings. I try not to be needlessly harsh on establishments, but there were feather needles in my non-seasoned garbage wings. I tried to eat other things to no longer remember eating 5 bites of this trash. Well....got cheese curds as an appetizer. Was offered the option of full or half-order. Nice to have that option. Asked for ranch and marinara. We were not told of any up charge...yet we were charged for the ranch (because we make it in-house). It is common courtesy and good customer service to inform your consumer, especially of an up-charge. Then we got chicken tenders for 2 children. They are apparently expected to eat the chicken with ketchup or the provided BBQ on the table. What no ranch? Just as an FYI the chicken tenders are in the appetizer section and there is no kids menu; so this is one of the options for a child. It was also offered as a half-order which equaled two decent size tenders. Or a full-order equaled 4 tenders. Next for the sandwiches...don't expect a side to come with them and with that price. You have to pay $2 or more for a side item. I got the pulled pork. It states that it is smoked for 12 hours...I beg to differ or maybe I just couldn't get the smoke from the sauce that the meat was saturated with. It does not state that there will be a sauce and besides when one comes to a BBQ joint one expects to be able to choose the BBQ sauce they would like to douse it with. The sauce that was on it was not appealing to me. My brother got the turkey club in which he stated was mediocre. He doused it with different BBQ sauce. His wife got the Brisket sandwich-she enjoyed it. There was not much for fat content, so it made for a drier sandwich. The waitress...besides the fact that she did not tell us about the up-charge she tried to charge us for drinks when we had water. She also took a long time to come back for our food order and then again the food took a while to get to us... All in all it was an edible meal, Just not fantastic. read more

We found this restaurants online while we were killing time in town. I was absolutely surprised at the brisket. It was very good portion, moist, melting in your mouth with a nice crust. The chicken wings were smoked and it had a really good snap when I bit into them. Smoky flavor was awesome. Wait staff was very friendly.
