If you're ever curious about checking this makers space out, they have tours every Saturday at 1pm. It's an amazing facility. The building opened in 2022 and it was made just for them so it's a huge upgrade from their previous location, where they were for 11 years. They now have an open floor plan with high ceilings and lots of natural light along with 20+ machines available. From laser cutters/engravers to water jets and 3D printers, the resources they offer are mind blowing. Fab Lab Tulsa is one of 1500+ MIT-chartered Fab Labs in 90+ countries and the first in the southeastern region of the U.S. (that's right, not even Dallas has one). Aside from the studio on the first floor, they have a metal lab and a wood lab, each with 10+ machines available. Both labs have a minimum age and require PPE to be worn at all times. The second floor has classrooms and a conference room. They have a membership model with lots of options depending on how many hours per month you'd like to have as well as what room. The pricing starts at $39 a month, which sounds like an incredible deal since you get to use machines that are $30-60k. Classes are also available for signup on their website along with education programming for kids. They have a couple of workforce initiatives as well. This is a huge asset in our community!

Cody's picture on the glass caught my eye. They offer film and TV acting classes for adults, teens, and even kids. What I was interested in were his coaching services for public speaking and communication. One of my goals this year is to improve in my skills and become a better and effective public speaker since I seem to find myself in front of a group pretty often in my personal and professional life. I have also recently become aware of how much I depend on "filler words". My most common ones are "um", "like", and "you know". While not a huge deal in regular conversations, professionally, it makes me sound unsure and I would hate for that to impact my credibility. I reached out via the contact form on the website and was able to schedule an initial 1:1 coaching session with the help of Chelsea, the Studio Admin & Assistant. I confess, I was initially uncertain about the whole thing going in, not knowing what to expect. I am happy to report that Cody is worth every penny! He has an impressive and extensive experience in film, television, theatre, and coaching. Tulsa is so lucky to have him. I take copious notes each session to make sure I won't forget his advice and tips. He has a way of making everything so practical. Each session, I'm progressing on my goal. It's a beautiful space with two dance studios available. The floor is perfect for dancing. Their larger studio has a sky light that makes it brighter. I love the art on the walls as well. They have a myriad of dance classes available for kids, including hip hop, Afro beats, jazz, ballet, west African, and modern. There's also a summer camp program from June to August. They also offer painting and drawing classes, including classes and events for adults. You can drop into their weekly classes or purchase pack class passes. You can check out the calendar on their website to see what's coming up. You can also register online. This is one of the few Black and female owned studios I know of in Tulsa. The owner, Jacelyne Jackson moved here from Florida. She has extensive training in dance from the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre Summer intensive program, and was a former dancer of Dallas Black Dance Theatre II, and one of the top 25 finalists on "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 7.
