She watches your body, and understands how it works. She makes hands on adjustments. Being in class with her - I truly feel like I'm with a professional-grade artist. Power Barre is a must, for any dancer, any fan of Pilates, or anyone who just wants a lean, toned dancer bod. And Pop Jam is so much fun. I've also taken Jazz Funk with Tashi, which is the BEST way to start a Monday. It's beginner friendly, but you learn technique. She's fun, lively, hilarious. Every single person is beaming when they leave her class. Drenched with Anna is also a pleasure. She's a delight to watch. A true athlete in her flow. It's a real workout! Belly Dance with Andrea was a surprise to me. I had no idea what Belly Dance was until I took this class. As it turns out, Belly Dance is like a mix of Pilates and Booty shaking. I didn't think I could move so precisely, but Andrea is such a good teacher, and so good at explaining the moves - I believe she can teach anyone how to Belly Dance. She has a thorough understanding of the history, the culture, and the artistry. Hip Hop with Mahi - the most energetic ball of fun there is. She's effortless. Drenched with Diamond - another great workout, and a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning. I love to take my girlfriends and get brunch in Union Square afterwards. Also, the Rae Studios Showcase was SO much fun. You get training in how to perform as a group. The adrenaline is intoxicating. There are people who do four per season, is how fun it is. You will need to ring the studios for them to buzz you into the building and take the elevator up to the 7th floor. Beware, the elevator can take a hot minute, so get there early! There is usually a receptionist that can help check you in, but you can also self check-in via their tablet in the bigger room. That room also has a dressing room for those that need to change clothing. There is a key for the bathroom. There is a waiting room and cubbies to place your stuff and high end water fountains. I'm glad that Rae studios has partnered with Wellhub/Gympass, This week I took a regular kpop class with Oche for the first time. I have done the performance workshop series with Fran last fall. Both Oche and Fran are great teachers, super energetic, thorough warmups and always checking in if we have questions on the choreography. Also both are super stylish!! Typically, you can see what song is being taught on Rae Studio's Instagram the day before the class. I've also taken several of the free kpop classes at Civic Center with Fran. For the free class, it is on the other side of the outdoor gym. It can get loud during events nearby, but Fran does her best to be loud and clear. As for the performance workshop, it was fun but the day of the performance was quite chaotic. The lights were different than how it was during the rehearsal runs and it was super disappointing when the music cut out. On the bright side, I felt like our group got to know each other well and even held a potluck together! I probably won't do another performance workshop series anytime soon, but will definitely keep coming to the regular and free classes.

I love her music choices, her energy etc. She is incredibly motivating! I take classes at night and on Saturday morning and hardly have had issues with finding parking in the neighborhood. The studio is very well maintained. I've also taken their pilates classes and definitely recommend it. BUT if you're looking for a cycling class, check out Griselda's classes. I love them and it's a life changing, freeing class. Plus, you get your dose of cardio in as well as some arm workouts. I will definitely return. I love this place!

The high ceilings, a loft-style layout, and Megaformer M3 machines. It seems pretty new since the springs still feel tight. There are mirrors in the front, and one side mirror to help check form. Check-in is super easy with a tablet at the front desk. In the back, there are bathrooms, a changing area, lockers, mirrors, and filtered water. They also have hair ties. No showers! Both classes were just okay for me. The vibe felt more like a slow yoga session than a Lagree class. Both instructors could've brought a bit more energy to the class. I did appreciate that one of them took time to correct my form and alignment and even demo a few moves on and off the machine. Street parking is available nearby. This class felt more like a series of random movements that didn't align much with that style. It leaned heavily into cardio, felt repetitive at times, and wasn't very engaging. It was also extremely hot, and there was a noticeable, somewhat unpleasant smell in the room.

I took Hot Pilates (60 minutes) with Sean and it was amazing! It's the best class I've taken through Classpass this year and it's mat pilates--no machine. Classes seem cheaper than some bougie studios nearby. Funky Door isn't pretentious, but it's a very good workout. I loved the heat--it really made the class stand out. The instructor Sean was hilarious, personable, fun, and funny. Attendees seem more diverse in terms of age, gender, background, ethnicity, and body than at other pilates studios I've tried recently which is extremely refreshing. I will be back! The lockers don't have locks, but many people use them anyways. The interior is funky, eccentric, and real--a nice change-of-pace from the overly-clean, modern, and sterile typical reformer pilates studios (although they should definitely be clean if we are going barefoot!) I wasn't even mad that it was unclear (from Classpass--always blame Classpass, that's why I only do their free trial) that I needed to bring my own mat and towel. I paid $5 for their mat (which doubled as a towel) and it was necessary because some people who brought their own mats were slipping on them from the sweat and having trouble doing different poses! The guy next to me had to switch to the floor which, even though it's no-shoes in the studio, is definitely not sanitary and I would never! Will be back!

He gave me a tour, explained how everything worked, shared helpful tips for my first class, and really helped calm any anxiety I had before stepping into the studio. In just two weeks, I've taken classes with Melanie, Yifan, Freddy, and McKena, and every instructor has been so patient, encouraging, and accommodating. Each class starts with warm-ups and conditioning to help you understand how to engage your muscles safely before learning tricks and poses. Every instructor has their own teaching style, but they all create such a positive and supportive environment. As someone who is naturally shy, I truly appreciate how inclusive and judgment-free this studio is. I always leave class feeling happier, stronger, and more confident than when I walked in. The studio is clean, has changing rooms, a bathroom, yoga mats, water fountains, yoga cubes and cubbies for convenience. To start off, I have been training here for several years (going on my 4th I think...well we all…read morelose track of time so I'm not even sure now...) regularly and with great enthusiasm (ha! always wanted to work that into a sentence). I will try to view it as objectively as possible because no one wants a biased review, am I right? The first thing you should know is that capoeira is not simple to get into: it is an art form and like all art form it requires time dedication and the mindset of self refinement in all aspects. Capoeira, as much as it is a martial art is a philosophy and a way of life. But that should not scare away those with a casual mindset. The beauty of capoeira is that it is not like all other martial arts: it is incredibly fun your first time and, 3 years later speaking from experience it is still just as fun. This establishment in question is very nice: compact in the sense of a martial arts academy allowing for a great deal of attention from the master himself Mestre Urubu Malandro (one of the more quirky and funnier guys you'll ever meet). If you've ever been to any sort of group training exercise, you'll know the importance of one on one. Mestre Urubu's great attention to detail yet noninvasive method of instruction allows his students, beginner to veteran, to explore the movements and find their own styles while keeping in mind the training itself. The workout itself is very core intensive with a balance of a total body workout: you'll be doing squats and rolling around on the ground. Of course not on your back, silly, but you will find that your arms and legs become a very important aspect in almost all of the movements learned: from balancing to weight transfer, you will use all of your limbs. Kicks utilize center of gravity and requires a fair amount of balance and grace that you will indeed learn. Where the culture comes in and where capoeira is separated from almost all forms of martial arts is the music. At the end of class we often form a roda (or circle) where we each in turn play a "game" if you will with each other: working with the sound of the berimbau (the principle music instrument) to create flow to the game and playing in time with the drum to keep our rhythm. All of this, though said with somewhat too many words, is still not enough to describe what this experience is like. It is something that really must be experienced first hand to even fathom a guess as to what it means but that's really the beauty of it: you are able to decide how best to interpret it! But I'm not going to get too philosophical about it. Capoeira welcomes all and excludes none: come and enjoy a bit of Brazilian culture and if you find that you enjoy it, definitely go with your gut feeling and stick around: you won't regret it for a second.

Mestre Urubu divides the class into levels so beginners will be taken care of either by him or other experienced players. People are super friendly, but that doesn't mean they will be laughing all the time, when they are sweating, be sure to be aware and perhaps get hit :) You'll learn a few Portuguese terms and come out of class in good spirits. Always recommended!!! Takes dedication though. Each day is different in the class, sometimes easy, sometimes hard. But unfortunately my first capoeira class was hard and had a hard time walking up and down the stairs, but believe me it was a good hurt--a great workout.
