Today, he celebrated his first birthday at doggie daycare with treats, party hats, and so much love. He has grown into the sweetest, happiest, and most loving dog. The posting said this was done but on further review now, it wasn't. this is a huge deal and I think reflects a pretty unethical practice. tried to follow up with our contact with them and never heard back. Absolutely horrible. MICHELLE COLE is rude, unhelpful and dishonest. Avoid this rescue at all costs. This woman stated she "wanted nothing to do with this adoption in the first place" after she rushed and pressured me into signing an application that "legally binds me to taking responsibility for this dog" so that they could pull him from the shelter's euthanasia list. I did that, booked a flight to LA to get him, only to find out that shelter adopted him to someone else who just walked in, (never being told this was ever a possibility) THEN this nasty woman texts me that she's upset at myself and the volunteer who ACTUALLY tried to help me. No apology or words of condolence, just mean. She should not be allowed to call her business an animal rescue. They advertise online for dogs they don't actually have, so have no right to request applications for. Promises are made, but not kept. We adopted a wonderful puppy born while her mom was at the Promise 4 Paws foster home. Our little girl turned 1 year old yesterday. She is the sweetest and most loving dog. We are grateful to Promise 4 Paws for all they do to help puppies/dogs find a home, and grateful to them for supporting us in the adoption process. ADAPTION PROCESS: After looking for a dog for months and experiencing many disappointments with other unresponsive adoption agencies and foster homes, we found a puppy at Promise 4 Paws. Our experience with Promise 4 Paws was amazing. They responded quickly to my application, were easy to work with, and cared about their dogs. The foster mom's home and paperwork processes were very organized, and she seemed like a dog whisperer. The foster mom also followed when it was time to have our puppy fixed and chipped, and they paid for it. Their vet was fantastic and it was a really easy process for us. I agree with the other bad reviews. Having lost my puggle a year ago, I was finally ready to get a new dog. I was looking at adopting a dog yesterday from them. I told them I really wanted the dog. Their policy is to go home and think about it for 24 hours. I did and still wanted the dog. I called to let them know that I still wanted the dog. They didn't even have the nerve to call me. I just got a text saying that the foster parent wanted to keep him. I will never work with a rescue again. You think you getting a dog and they pull the rug out from under you. Very bad experience. Promise for paws did nothing but lie to us about dogs they received from us and ones that were to be returned. Robin is one of the key people there made promises she didn't keep and told lies about us and the condition of the dogs she has told so many different lies it's terrible she had to resort to this. Another key person there Michelle hurt my girlfriend with her lies about the return of certain dogs my girlfriend even gave up her two dogs that meant the world to her because her and her son lived them so much this was very hard to do and now Michelle won't talk to her and they have refused to return five dogs one of these dogs was never part of adoption with the others but have still refused to give them back. Another dog is my personnel service dog they won't give back. I called these people for help with the dogs and there was five dogs from the very beginning that was to be returned they promised this from the start and have lies to us about everything and have now resorted to slanderash complaints and even made a false report on myself because I threatened to file both civil and criminal charges against them. I don't recommend these people in any way shape or form and everything I've stated here I can prove with both witnesses and also with their texts to me so I'm not saying anything about them I cannot prove. what a terrible rescue. yelling at me, abusive SUE. nasty to potential adopters SUE. appalling behavior. and nobody ever reached out to me to resolve it. as i really wanted the pup. but you cant work with these people. they are just looking for a reason to yell at you or find fault against you for no reason. as i read the other reviews it breaks my heart that good people trying to save a pup get treated like this by these inept people. im sure the higher management is the same. the only nice person there was the volunteer lady who had the pup. she really tried to help me but that mean nasty SUE had to get into it and scream at me over the phone for not calling her back instead. someone needs to file charges against these people and shut them down. im so sick of these rescues coming down on and abusing people. good people that want a pup and deserve a pup. who do they think they are? they are out of control and need to be stopped. look at all of the bad reviews. it makes me sick. im glad michelle never called me back im sure it would have been the same thing nasty abuse. who needs that when we are trying to help. incompetent rescue with bad people. read more

I applied for a dog and filled out a very long comprehensive application that took me awhile to fill out, which would be fine. EXCEPT no one read my application and told me I would be a good fit for the dog and then I drive one hour each way to meet the dog. And was asked almost ALL the questions on my application, clearly it was not read or looked at. And then the following day I was told I was not fit to adopt the dog because of my work schedule (which was on the application). Clearly, they never read the application and wasted several hours of my time with an application, driving, and meeting. Very disappointed with how they communicate with potential adopters. My experience throughout has been nothing but wonderful. I have felt such support from the team at Promise 4 Paws, they truly matched me with exactly what my heart needed. I hate to write this review because I just want the pet's up for adoption to be able to find a home like promise 4 paws claims they want also. Unfortunately that is not the case for this establishment. It seems as though they are only interested in selling to Caucasian homes and not people of color (Hispanic and African American). I contacted them two weeks ago filling a application for a pet I was interested in. I never heard back but they were very active on their Instagram. I've seen they posted the dog I was interested in they said the dog was available to adopt, so I politely direct messaged them asking what the next steps were and that I filled an application out and was very interested, to which I received no reply. I contacted my friend (who is half Caucasian) to direct message them as well to ask about donating to the cause to which they responded within three hours. To this day the dog is still up for adoption and has not found his home. If you are looking to adopt a pet and are a African American or Hispanic based homes this is NOT the place for you. I will be calling whoever I need to to report this establishment because everyone should have equal opportunity to adopt a pet. read more

Promise 4 Paws gets zero stars. I needed to return a dog that I adopted 8 months ago due to unforeseen severe aggression from a Rescue called Underdog in San Clemente. It turned out the Rescue was only in possession of the dog for a couple of days, and they had not had her long enough to observe her behavior or handle her before putting her up for adoption. They did not know about her aggression. Instead of meeting with the rescuer, Suzie Graf, to return the dog, it was arranged that I meet with a man named Kevin Walshe of Promise 4 Paws. From the moment we first met he was already on the defense to me and my friend who came along. His actions were profoundly unprofessional and he was extremely rude and belligerent to me and my friend. It was a one-sided conversation as he rudely cut me off and would not let me finish a sentence every time I began to speak. He'd ask me questions and then would immediately interrupt me, which turned into arguing because he would not let me speak. He never had any intentions of hearing anything I wanted to tell him regarding the dog's aggressive behavior or anything wonderful about her. He insulted us by calling me "stupid" and my friend "a piece of crap". He finally, and angrily, gave me a piece of paper that I was forced to sign to pay $150 cash as a return fee. He said if I didn't sign the paper, he would not take her. He kept insisting I pay him $150 cash. I told him I did not have that much cash with me and I would have to give him a check. He accused me of lying and said "everybody has that much cash with them". At this point my trust had completely disappeared, so in order for him not to hurt or abandon the dog, I signed the paper and wrote a check, NOT payable to Underdog Rescue, but to his business, Promise 4 Paws, for $150. I would never knowingly adopt an aggressive dog. There is no excuse for how we were treated and insulted. I will never do business with Kevin Walshe of Promise 4 Paws ever again, and I recommend avoiding doing business with this man at all costs. read more

We recently adopted two 10 week old Chihuahua/Terrier puppies from Promises 4 Paws. Our experience with dealing with Michelle and Linda was nothing short of outstanding. Linda allowed us to bring our entire family to her home to meet our perspective, future family members. The care that she gave to Lily, the puppies' mother, and her pups was fantastic. The application process was simple and straightforward. Linda's daughter, Michelle, came to our home the following day to perform a home inspection and deliver Harvey and Kailey. All of the puppies' veterinary records and information was supplied, Linda brought food that she had been feeding the puppies that they liked and she also brought two dog beds that the puppies' mom had slept in so that they would have a familiar scent. Harvey and Kailey have integrated beautifully into our family. Based on our experience, I would recommend Promises 4 Paws to anyone looking to adopt a rescue. read more

I am an experienced chihuahua owner. I'm stable, affluent, and loving. My husband just retired and would love the dogs all day every day. I wanted to adopt a bonded pair of senior chihuahuas, which I know would not be an easy adoption. I was told I was not fit to be an owner because my house is on a beautiful half acre in Oro Grande and there are coyotes in Oro Grande. I am absolutely convinced that the foster parent would rather keep the dogs than let them be adopted. That's wonderful if they found a loving home, but don't tell me it's because I'm not fit to be an owner because of coyotes in my area. I've lived in this house three years and a coyote has never come in my yard. I'd never leave my pet in a situation where a coyote could get them. After the very lengthy application process and getting very excited about having found our new family members, this was a heartbreaking disappointment. And also, be aware that the adoption fee is an outrageous $450 for a senior dog. read more

Adopting from Promise 4 Paws was a seamless and delightful process. After fostering Brandy for several days, I realized this dog was meant to spend her life with me. The wonderful people that run the organization were extremely understanding and I was approved for the adoption. Through the fostering and adoption process it was clear how professional and kind everyone was at Promise 4 Paws, along with the vet that they work along side with. Brandy had her spay while in my care as well. The appointment was booked by Sue from Promise 4 Paws and was an easy drop off and pickup at an excellent vet office. I recently volunteered to foster a sweet dog that was an owner relinquish and was badly neglected and they took the dog to the vet to be fully checked and also treated the dog for a massive ear infection, then they took the dog for a "spa day" where the groomer transformed the dog from filthy dirty and badly matted to a beautiful clean white dog.
