We called ahead to order some sandwiches for our clients who we were meeting at their new home in BUDA. Even though they were not yet open and the chef was not in, Amy, one of he owners, took our order and told us when they would be ready. She subsequently called us 5 min before that time to say everything was ready. I added another sandwich and they swiftly added it to the order. We totally enjoyed our lunch however my wife only ordered one sandwich for us to share. SO... I stopped by on our way back to the office and ordered an "Angry Bird" for my very own. Independent stores work with a severe disadvantage due to inability to purchase many items by the case, incurring a huge "bottle charge", so with that in mind, the prices are decent enough. An unfriendly middle age lady was behind the counter, didn't bother to say hello. I walked around for a bit and didn't see anything I had to have. In addition, they are anti-gun as they have a 30:06 sign. This is perhaps, the dumbest thing a store can do. Of course I had my sidearm on my hip, because ignoring the sign is less of a violation than talking on a cell phone while driving...but it tells your customers, the ones that have had background checks, that they are not welcome. Not only that, if something were to happen there and a CHL holder would be harmed, they would have HUGE personal liability. So if you want a place with high prices, unfriendly service and who hate gun owners, by all means...shop at Proof. As to me, I will go to the places that want my money. read more

I spent over a decade living in downtown Austin and it was only until I moved to Buda last year that I found a deli that reminded me of the good old italian delis where I grew up. The ingredients are top notch, noticeably fresh as heck, and made with apparent care and concern -- no hastily made messes here. Soups are really the hidden secret here and you'd be wise to get some with your sammich. I'm real big on the 'Du Pre' right now as it's kept me warm and happy and well-fed this past winter. Oh and free chips and a very good pickle with your sandwich. Hard to beat that. Now, this isn't Jimmy John's or Subway so, orders to take some time as they use actual food and don't just slap your order together. Take the time to peruse their rather fantastic and eclectic selection of sodas, drinks -- some real interesting, offbeat choices in those cases. And often some very amusing, wry notes from the owner on them :) Staff is consistently friendly and fun to talk to. I can't say how much I'm happy this place is part of my community and that I've finally found a deli that's really great. read more

Working as an essential, eating is a big part of our day to keep us going. We were blessed to have work out in Buda & stopped by this deli shop for a sandwich. We ordered a Dolly Llama, chicken salad sandwich, & Du Pre Sandwich- their spin on a philly. The sandwiches were amazing & tickled our tastebuds with joy & yumminess. We highly recommend this place. My husband was doing some construction work in the area and told me about this place and their great sandwiches, so we picked up an order along with a bottle of whiskey and some soda. Oh my gosh!! I got the Tuna Meltdown and it reminded me of a tuna sandwich I used to order in Virginia that I missed so much. My husband got the Hammy Sammy which I tried and was also amazing. Seriously some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The woman I spoke to on the phone was also so nice to speak to and so polite when she brought our order out. We will be back (often) and will be recommending this place to all our friends! read more

Really cool local business, which is what Buda needs. Very well thought out branding, a nice clean and interesting store, unique stuff. As far as vegan options in Buda go, there aren't many in this town dominated by chains. But, I work here so I need cool spots with vegan options, and Proof has been a great find thanks to a co-worker. I get the Dolly Llama, a nice veggie sandwich with avocado, tomato, sprouts, etc on multi grain bread, a pickle and chips for $5.50 at lunch. Sometimes I'll pick up homemade pickled Brussels sprouts which are amazing. I got a cantaloupe gazpacho once, which was great even though I don't love cantaloupe. The few times I've been the people have been laid back and friendly. It's locally owned and something unique. Can't wait to go by after work sometime and check out their beer selection! It is so nice to have a great liquor store in Buda. Not only does Proof have a great selection of beer/wine/liquor, the food is absolutely phenomenal. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was AMAZING. This honestly may have been the best sandwich I have had in years. I believe that friendly service, especially for a local business is extremely important to keep folks coming back...Proof definitely seems to get this. Super glad I found this place on Yelp. We live in way south Austin and this is about a 10 minute drive from our house. I would definitely recommend you check it out! Let me start off by saying that it's exactly what you're expecting. A little deli inside of a liquor store. It is however super clean and inviting. They have a good amount of inside seating for the size that it is but we decided to sit outside. Their sandwiches did not disappoint. I ordered the "angry byrd" (because I wanted something hot). They have them separated by hot and cold.. so don't worry. It had a good assortment of vegetables along with the turkey and Swiss. The bread was delicious and whatever seasonings that were on there complimented it super well. It was filling without leaving you stuffed. The boy had the "hammy Sammy" because he was attracted to the fried shallots in it. It was super good.. and the flavors just melded into the bread without it getting squishy. The reason why this deli is getting a four and not a five is because of the extra stuff we ordered. We got one of the "empanadas". It was warmed up in the microwave right in front of us.. and when brought out was super rubbery and the filling tasted kind of metallic. The dough was not a flaky empanada dough at all.. total bummer. I'm not sure if these are made in house or not but not a fan. The other thing was a soup. We got the broccoli and leek. I was just underwhelming and needed even salt. We will however be back because those sandwiches were delicious! read more

So excited that Proof has finally arrived! What a great addition to Buda. I stopped in to restock my whiskey supply and found a great bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oak. Then I was taken aback by their fabulous wine selection, with wines from many regions at lots of different price points. I ended up also picking up a great bottle of Argentinian malbec and a bottle of Japanese sparkling sake. Mmm... And since I wore myself out perusing their inventory of offbeat booze, I needed to replenish with a little lunch. I had the Athenian sandwich and a cup of the Chicken Florentine soup. Both were delicious! They make everything in house with fresh, local ingredients, and you can taste it. Mark my words, I will be back to try more of their menu and alcohol selection soon! read more

It is so nice to have a liquor store that also sells great food in it in Buda! I really enjoy the Dalai Lama sandwich and their various soups throughout the year and their empanadas are absolutely awesome. Never have I gone into the store and there isn't someone incredibly friendly and helpful behind the counter. There can be a bit of a wait for food at times because the staff is small and so is the kitchen, but it's worth the wait. The alcohol selection is also impressive and prices are pretty moderate to slightly expensive, but it is nice to grab things and browse while you're waiting for your food. I especially love that they have a lunch special on their sandwiches on a daily basis. The restaurant and retail space is always clean and well kept. They also play really fun music in this place! We will continue to give them our business as often as we can. Happy to support this local business in Buda. read more

I really like that there is a place where I can get liquor AND a good sandwich! The staff is friendly and helpful. I had an amazing sandwich from the deli - the Athena.That being said, I must be honest about the pricing of the sandwiches. I get the sandwiches are fancy/gourmet and the quality of ingredients and presentation is quite good. It's the price that gets me,though....eeks, 7, 8,9 dollars for such a small sandwich. BUT I won't let that stop me from being a repeat customer. Maybe give a sandwich discount for every bottle of wine or liquor :) read more

I only ever go to Proof's for the food because it's amazing!! I was skeptical at first because it's a liquor store as well, and I expected the food to be mediocre, but I was totally wrong! Their soups are made fresh everyday with different options daily. Their sandwiches are also made with high quality ingredients, and they even have vegan and gluten free options which is perfect for me because I'm very conscious of what I put in my body and opt for the healthier choices more often than not.
