It's really not any more expensive than getting a designer shirt off the rack, and you can get the details and fit customized so your shirt is one of a kind. Going to the showroom took a lot of the guesswork out of both fit and selecting a fabric, so I highly recommend doing that. Oof this was not OK. They do a reasonable job for made-to-measure shirts, though I did have to get a fashion designer friend to adjust the measurements they took. But shirts aren't that complicated. The problem: Proper Cloth is not a tailoring company, so do not come here for suits. I tried to get a suit from them, and it was a disaster. They took measurements and told me a date it'd likely be here. They missed it by about two weeks, which means the event I needed it for came and went. Then when it did arrive, it was unwearable--too big and just looked crumpled no matter how much I steamed it. They also screwed up the cuff buttons, which is sort of a big deal for suiting given that functional cuff buttons are one of the defining features of a proper suit. When I took it back, they told me they were out of the fabric and couldn't remake it, but don't worry because they can just have a tailor adjust it. That failed miserably. When I came to try it on, it still looked like a crumpled mess. I was essentially talking to myself in the mirror about the issues--the salesmen didn't even look up from his laptop! Just asked, eyes cast downward, "So what do you want to do, Michael?" I told him I'd like a refund. But that means this place had A LOT of my money locked up, interest free--for nearly three months! Needless to say, I won't be coming back. If you want a suit that's not a mess, go somewhere where actual tailors--not salespeople--fit you. read more

My experience with Proper Cloth has been outstanding. Now, I won't lie, it did take me quite a few attempts to get the sizing right -- and it did take some time but for me, it was well worth it. I don't live near their showroom in NYC but happened to be in NYC and scheduled an appointment. The tailor (Bruno) was outstanding and from that point on, it has been a perfect fit. The designs are great, the quality very, very good and the customer service has been so strong. I find they truly have your satisfaction top of mind. For those who have posted and are frustrated about the fitting, I totally feel for you and it can be frustrating, however if you try and give them a call, I have found that they will do their best to ensure they get it right. For me, the investment of time was worth it because when I factor in the time to get to a clothing store and then to a tailor (and pay for the tailoring) my investment to get it right paid off for me. I knew I was hooked on Proper Cloth this weekend when I had strolled into a few clothing stores just peaking around to see what caught my eye. While I found a few things, they just weren't the precisely the right fit (would need sleeves or hem done) and I thought, I can just hit the Proper Cloth site, click and wear. I'm hooked. read more

They do have a wide variety of shirts for a fairly reasonable price. The issue is more so with service. All the sales people are nice, but did not handle an issue well. I ordered several custom made shirts, which was close to $1k. When I received them, I immediately noticed they were way too small. While they were able to see me and have the shirts reordered the same day, that was about it. You would expect in such a situation that they would expedite the shirts. You would also expect a discount or additional product, given that I had to spend the morning traveling to them to sort out their mistake. They did neither. Maybe just a bad experience but probably won't be coming back here for custom shirts after this experience. read more

I have purchased two dress shirts from Proper Cloth, one from their NYC location and one online. Both shirts eventually came out very nicely. You need to have patience and prepare to do several (up to 3+) fit corrections before you get a shirt with very good fit. I have heard this is common with custom dress shirts. In my limited experience, it seems that the fit differs slightly depending on the fabric used. Proper Cloth's customer service is excellent. You don't even have to return the shirts until after you get an order that fits correctly. As to quality, the two shirts have different fabric and both seem to be high quality. Durability appears good so far. My first shirt has been washed maybe 5 to 10 times and has held up well so far. I plan to purchase additional shirts from Proper Cloth and will try to update this as I do. read more

I've been a customer for over 8 years, my first order was March of 2015 and purchased 23 shirts The most frustrating issue is the inconsistency of measurements among their outsourced tailors. I've received shirts with measurements that are spot on and others where my cuffs and collars were so loose and sleeves so long I looked like I was swimming in the shirt. I've also had shirts that are so tight I'm unable to button my cuffs. I order the same 8.3" cuff and its a surprise every time to see what I get. I had to take my last two shirts to the tailor and move the cuff buttons 3/8" tighter so they didn't slide down my hand Sure, they offer to remake the shirts free of charge - I've done this -- and the shirts came back with the same loose or tight measurements as before. Apparently each tailor has a different sized ruler (haha) and you never know what you might get. very frustrating - quality control is really lacking among their tailors Don't get me started on shrinkage calculations by fabric. Pique fabrics are the worst for shrinking. I've got shirts that look great at first, but a year later they look like they were made for someone 6" shorter and 50 lbs lighter read more

On the plus side, these masks are well made and comfortable. Customer service was pleasant but ultimately unable to solve my problem satisfactorily. The linen that this mask was made from came out extremely wrinkled and the mask was misshapen after laundering. Ironing was suggested by customer service as a way to correct this issue. If I owned an iron or considered this at all convenient, this might have solved the problem. However, given the number of times any mask should be washed after wearing, I do NOT think this is a practical solution. Masks cannot be returned and no refund or partial refund option for the 3 masks I purchased was offered. Ultimately, I am out $50 and that is that. Buyer beware of the characteristics of your chosen fabric if you plan to order these expensive masks. read more

Well, we both tried, but they couldn't deliver. I ordered a shirt from them about a year ago, using measurements meticulously taken from other shirts that fit well. They sent something too tight versus those measurements. I told them so and sent photos. They proposed changes, which I accepted. They sent another shirt, also too tight. I remeasured that shirt plus my others, again, taking into account where they were "off" and sent them new numbers for them to use. They said they couldn't fix it over email so I should use the online UI with a "Request a remake" button. Unfortunately, there was no such button in their UI. I emailed them about it and included a screenshot; they apologized, said they fixed the technical issue, and sent another link which I tried. Again, no "Request a remake" button. Seeing as it's been a year and I don't have a shirt that fits, I'd say it's a one star experience. So why two stars? Because Proper Cloth was the only company that made large sized anti-Covid masks that fit me well. read more

They sent me a standard size suit to try on (fish around on the website for this option), and then we did a Zoom call (set up your phone on a tripod for this--plan carefully). To my amazement, this was really effective, given that the initial size was a good but not great fit. They eyeballed some changes, and the finished product fit me like a glove. I tried PC and their service is top notch. First shirt I used their algorithm and the fit was a 8/10. Scheduled myself for a in-person measurement. They make it easy to determine your size (if youprefer, you can even mail them your best-fitting shirt), have lots of useful styling info on their website (like the best type of collar on a given shirt), have endless options, good fabrics, and have great customer service. You can get a great shirt that fits perfectly for a little over $100, occasionaly cheaper when on sale. That's opposed to buying a lower-quality shirt for $50 and spending$30 on tailoring. I don't think I truly understood the value of a well fitting shirt until recently - one small change and people will assume you worked out for months or lost a lot of weight. Of course, if you actually accomplish either of those things, those changes are accentuated. But bespoke clothing are hella expensive in general. Came in on a random whim after a visit with New York cheesecake after seeing the reviews. Was able to get a day of appointment with Josh for a fitting. It was incredibly accessible, didn't feel out of place as a dude in my 20s. As we gabbed we went over some of the reasons I might've had problems finding well fitting stuff in the past - first shirt ordered came with free adjustments if it didn't work, so we found something that worked and pulled the trigger. The overseas compartmentalization for their sewing in Asia sounds a bit weird, but when it arrived in my mailbox it didn't feel weird at all. I don't think I've ever felt that comfortable in dresswear to date! To get that custom look at a fraction of the typical cost was totally worth it. Nowadays walk ins seem a lot harder, with appointments out days in advance. Even just their showroom has plenty examples of their shirt options, outerwear, and custom suits. But if you're ever in the area and just want to have your own measurements, I'd highly recommend it - zero cost with a lot to gain. read more
