Mr Mohan and his son Victor have great customer service and try their best to understand the client need and position them in the right price point. I have gotten 4 custom suits from them over the last several years. They offered me a good deal well below competitor and the fabrics I got from Italian fabric mill Reda were in the S130's and S150's thread count which are high quality. The custom suits fit properly and look quite sharp - I actually feel very confident and well dressed in them. Mohan's also does alterations and adjustments for no charge within one year of purchase. I highly recommend going to Mohan's for a visit to get measured and get a bespoke custom fitted suit. They will work with your budget and get you the best fabrics! Highly recommended. I had commissioned a custom tuxedo for my wedding in March 2023. I had originally went in for just a custom shirt, but after speaking with Michael, feeling their great customer service and attention to detail, and seeing the quality of work first hand, I decided to get a custom tuxedo also. And I could not be happier! Michael and his tailoring staff were very communicative, attentive, and helpful throughout each step of the process. During the designing/measurement stage, Michael was very open to hearing/implementing any styling and fit cues that I had and also provided guidance to make the garment structurally sound. I agree with the negative reviews. They dont tell you the price up front - you get a "special price" only after having sat thru their pitch. If there's anything wrong with the suit they just steam/press it in the back. And the promise of life time alterations is a lie. I was incredibly disappointed. I entrusted these guys to make a suit for my wedding and provided pictures of the exact style I wanted. Not only they delayed the delivery by nearly two weeks, when it was finally ready it was NOT AT ALL the style that I requested and what's even more hard to believe, despite being made to measure it did not fit at all. I feel completely let down and I would never recommend this place to anyone. They talk and promise and then try to deliver basically a ready-made (rather than tailored) off the rack suit. I strongly recommend Mohan's if you're in midtown and are looking for tailoring. I was in need of a suit tailoring and needed it in less than a week for an event. Without an appointment, Victor's team did the necessary measuring and promised to turn it around by week's end. Got it back in 2 DAYS and was extremely impressed with the work the in-house tailor did. In fact, it came out better than some of the custom-tailored suits I own! I first went here about 10 years ago and ordered four suits and four extra pairs of pants (they are the masters of the up-sell). I think I paid about $2,500 for everything. I went there again this year to order some new suits. I got a "deal" for two suits for about $2,060. I ordered an additional suit because they were having a promotion, for which I paid about $650. There are no listed prices. Every time they give you a quote, it is a "special price only for you". In addition to all that nonsense, I had to come back for at least three different fittings and the suit pants still do not look and feel right. Plus, I think they swapped out the fabric I chose with a cheaper one. I finally ended up taking my suit pants for alteration at a real tailor. I could not afford to waste any more time with these guys. The tailor said he noticed obvious flaws in the craftsmanship. Avoid this place. These guys totally remind me of used car salesmen. They never give you an honest answer about the price and they don't even bother to call you when your suits are ready. When you eventually call, they say "the suits just arrived" - even though it is weeks after they promised the suits would be ready. Plus, the suits are probably sent to China or some other place to be made in sweatshops. They have a reputation for basically being a suit factory. I went back because my initial visit in 2009 was pleasant, but this time has been awful from start to finish. They have lost a customer. read more

Their free lifetime alterations is not true. If you ask them to alter anything they'll charge you for it. And any alterations they do on your collar is just some guy steaming the collar/shoulders in the back room. Also they dont respond to emails. And no fixed/posted prices-plus you'll get blindsided by shipping fees. Also no point in talking to the Live Chat guy in their website. He's only there to have you waste your time telling him what the issue is only to ask you for your contact details. The service I think is TotalLiveChat or ReachLocalLiveChat.com. Just ordered new Suits and they Came out Amazing. From start to finish my experience was un parallel. I have used other custom tailors before but Mohans is the best! I got my topcoat tailored at Mohan's, and it was a great experience. The store is full of nice fabrics and large mirrors, and the tailor measured me properly. I was given a timeline of about 1 week, but received a call from a gentleman named Victor saying the coat was ready after a few days. The speed of service was impressive, as was the craftsmanship. No imperfections whatsoever, and the coat fits like a dream. I appreciated their advice and wisdom in fabrics & suiting. These guys advertise in the NYTimes with a picture of Mohan invariably standing next to some celebrity athlete, holding a tape measure to his oversize shoulders. Leads you to believe this is a class A operation. It is not. Bait and switch. Custom mass production. Hard sell. And in the end, not the tailoring quality you expect. Though I suppose Derek Jeter got decent treatment from them. Bottom line -- I had to take all three suits they did for me to ANOTHER custom tailor to get them to fit properly with the style I'd wanted. I had been planning a trip to NYC and wanted to get fitted for a new charcoal suit. Found Mohan's online and the reviews seemed pretty positive. Called to make an appointment and the fellow I spoke with was cordial and knowledgeable about what I was after. He said I should be able to get the suit for around $700 which sounded great for a wool suit. Considering this would be my first MTM suit all the better so I booked an appointment. Not what I expected when I got to my appointment however. I was greeted by someone other than who I spoke with on the phone, a fellow named Sam D. . We started discussing the suit and within 2 minutes the cost had shot up to $1,100 (I'm sure that # is prior to the exorbitant shipping charges others have discussed in this forum). The reason it was more, explained Sam D., was that I was quoted a wool blend. Well of course I wasn't expecting to have a custom fitted suit made in a wool/ polyester blend so I felt a little stuck at that point. While looking at samples Sam D. seemed distracted the entire time fidgeting with his phone checking his messages I suppose. I asked to see an example of their work and he took me over to a rack to see a few things and all the while he fidgeted with his phone. In all he was on his phone perhaps 1/4th of the time I was there. This made me feel like a third rate customer which I particularly dislike considering I had made the effort to make a specific appointment to be fitted. NO BUSINESS SHOULD TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS - not even in a fast food joint would I expect such behavior. Had the salesman paid attention to my questions I might well have purchased the $1,100 suit, instead I was disrespected and decided to walkout. read more

This wasn't my first custom suit so I knew exactly what to expect. I can honestly say that I was surprised with how well my suits fit me. I didn't know before that custom suits are supposed to feel this good. I actually look for reasons to where my suits now. It took about 2 weeks to get the final product but it was worth every second of waiting. Highly recommended. The staff is friendly and obviously well experienced. They are nice guys and they know how to sell. Be aware they will try to pressure you to accept delivery of your garments, even if you are dissatisfied. It's rather off putting. Be prepared to stand your ground as you try garments on for fit. Otherwise, they make quality clothes. read more

I feel that Mohan's deserves a fair review and the two star description of "Meh. I've experienced better." from Yelp sums it up well. I went to their traveling show in Boston. The guy who did my measurements was really nice and spent a fair bit of time looking at my sloped shoulders. I did get hit with their BS delivery charge, which is a shame, although they were mailing them to me in Boston so not 100% uncalled for. Now there are some positives. Of the three suits one is great. It is a perfect fit, comfortable and accommodates my shoulders well. It is the suit I will take to get copied, fit wise, when I buy my next group of suits bespoke. One of the sports jackets was really off and had to be taken back to NYC for tailoring. Overall they never did a really great job so it's never worn. The navy suit I got isn't bad. The shoulder isn't seamless, which is a but annoying, but it could be worse. I've worn it to a couple high profile conferences where I know everyone will get drinks after and a suit is at risk. Overall I wouldn't probably go back again as the suits where somewhat overpriced. The free shirts collar size didn't really fit and are poly/cotton blend, although ironically I get a lot of compliments on them when wearing open collar. They make nice going out shirts. As for the technical details the suits are not fully canvassed. The suit numbers they give are highly likely to be double counted as they are twisted yarn (i.e. S110 is listed as S220). I got three different house styles on my jackets from modern to 90s with huge shoulder pads. If none of the construction details matter to you, they do a nicely shaped suit once they have your details locked in, otherwise beware. read more

I came across their typical ad on the web for 3 suits and 6 shirts and called the number listed. Talked to Victor, the son of the owner and checked with him if this deal is still on, since the ad had no date on it. He confirmed and we set up an appointment for the next day. When I went there, within a matter of minutes, it went from saying it is an old ad that will still be honored to something that will not be honored and then back to trying to sign me up for the current advertised deal. Then I learned that I need to pay over a hundred dollars for shipping that was apparently non-negotiable. There was no attempt to make things right for a trip made specifically for this after confirming it over the phone. Left a bad taste right-away and I decided to leave. I wish I'd read the reviews here before I placed a deposit on a suit and shirt at Mohan's. I was promised "100% satisfaction", and got nothing but headaches and incompetence. I had an upcoming wedding to attend in Italy, and thought it might be nice to get a custom suit and maybe a shirt. My girlfriend has a good eye for these things, and she came along to advise me. I am NOT new to buying suits or shirts, and I have a clear idea of how things should fit, and am a normal-sized person. There is no reason things should have been this difficult. Needless to say, they were horrendous. The suit arrived from Hong Kong on time, and the first fitting revealed many many issues: folds where there should have been none, the lapels weren't flat, the suit needed some shaping in the back, and the pants were very slim, too slim, at the hem. The front of the jacket wasn't even, and the tailor simply kept pulling the fabric down to 'even it out' instead of looking for the source of trouble. The second fitting was as bad as the first. The problems were becoming worse. The button needed to be moved, and the tailor didn't even notice. The back didn't lie flat, still. The shirt was super baggy in all the wrong places, and the shape wasn't consistend front to back. A friend accompanied me as well as my girlfriend, and both were surprised at how bad the tailoring was, and both suggested I get my money back. The last and final fitting was the straw that broke the camel's back. The suit had gotten worse, and was exhibiting folds and shapes that had never appeared before. The shirt still was worse off than a typical shirt you'd get at Saks. I was out of time, and without a decent suit for a wedding in Italy. They offered to undo then reattach the sleeves in 30 minutes, taking in the body, something NO tailor can do well in the time given.That is a major surgery on a uit that takes a LOT of time and know-how. They also suggested some other manipulations that would be impossible It's at that point that I realized this would never get fixed. I showed them an OFF THE RACK suit that fit me better, with almost no alterations, and they were "surprised", and "amazed". Do not shop here, do not buy anything here. Not worth your time, ever. Their suits don't have a 'shape', or a 'style'. They are simply fabric made to your measurements, but they aren't based on a model of some sort, something that insures a proper shape of the garment. They sure are nice in their showroom, but they just don't deliver a good, quality product. I'm now trying to get my deposit back. read more

I bought 2 suits and 5 shirts in 2010. As of today I have a shirt I can not use as the collar ripped at the seam and one of my suit pants has a rip at the thigh area. I have gotten suits and shirts in 2006 that I still wear because the fit is great and quality has held up. I will never buy from this place. I have gone to a few custom tailors in New York City and haven't had much luck. A friend of mine recommended that I give Mohan's Custom Tailors a try. At first I was skeptical but when the suit arrived it was absolutely perfect. They were able to achieve the exact tapered fit I was looking for. The price range was extremely fair considering the quality of the material and fit received. I would rate the professionalism 5 stars as well. Shockingly bad merchandise and service - can't believe they're still in business. I feel for Michell C. and other fellow victims -- my experience was very similar. Bought the "Scabal" three-suit package with shirts - also from "Sam." I should have walked out when he said they were adding $400 to advertised price for "shipping." Suits came later than promised (I'm not in NYC), but worse, were very poorly tailored with cheap, ill-fitting linings (something akin to burlap) and sub-standard fabric -- and they didn't fit at all! It was like I got someone else's suits - and after all the measurements they'd taken! Then "Sam" didn't return my phone calls or emails. Was forced to return in person to demand re-tailoring and to fix botched linings and other mistakes. They screwed that up too, then they tried to charge me for shipping the "fixed" suits back to me. It was all about the money - they couldn't have cared less about the quality of their product or my satisfaction. Finally gave up on Mohans and took the suits to a professional tailor so I could at least wear them. Did I mention that the "custom tailored" shirts that came with the suits were too small? I started getting custom suits from Mohans a couple of years ago at the recommendation of one of my bosses. Honestly, the experience has been great - I started with four suits, bought another four and now I'm at 13 total. the pricing is very straight forward, and I think they work with you to get to the price point you want at the quality you want. Custom fitting is always a process, but I think they work very hard to get everything right. I'm always very comfortable there and continue to recommend Mohan's to anyone. The suits look terrific, too and quality has been great. Nice people, but otherwise a disaster. First, they surprise you with inexplicably high shipping/handling. But I still bought 3 suits anyway, because we had already done the fitting and I had heard good things. Then the real problems started. Two of the three suit pants ripped on multiple occasions in the first few months of wearing them. I'm talking about big rips creating big holes in the fabric. Not a one-off occurrence -- happened several times, early on. Each time I went back to Mohan's asking them to fix it, and each time they repaired it and gave it back to me. But after ~5 rips, I gave up on the suits entirely. Even before the rips, the suits didn't fit great. read more
