We are back for our third summer swimming at PPA! This past year, my children have stepped up…read moretheir game and have become competitive swimmers. They qualified for Junior Olympics and Far Western, which if you are from the west coast puts them into the top 8 and 6% of swimmers nationwide with double A and triple A times. In preparation for these Championship meets, they really wanted to come back to Colorado Springs and work with Coach Anna and swim with the PPA team. Coach Anna is amazing! She is warm and caring and she is such a great coach that it is such a privilege for them to work with her and to be part of the team. This year, they competed with them at the Falfins meet at the Air Force Academy and my boys had a great time. I love how their team mates cheered each other on and how Anna spent the time to provide quality feedback to all the children. At the end of the meet, my sons placed in all 6-8 of their events and even had some personal bests which allowed them to qualify for additional JO and Far Western events. This week, my eldest is taking part in their five day competitive camp. He really wanted to sign up for it, but was nervous since he didn't know anyone. After the first day he was all smiles. Some of the same children who he competed with at the Falfins meet were there and so he had a ready made crew of like minded swimmers. He also told me that he got to meet an Olympic swimmer and he got to touch her gold medal. He said they filmed their dives/starts and viewing the underwater videos to help him to see areas where he could improve. So far, it has been really valuable and he was up early the next day eager to head back to camp. We enrolled my younger son in their four day FUN-damentals Camp at the end of the month. He is excited because he sees how much fun his brother is having. All in all, we are thrilled to be part of PPA. Coach Anna has created such a wonderful swim environment and we feel privileged to be part of it. Thank you Coach Anna for being so welcoming to us! And thank you Joselyn for helping us to enroll in the camps and the swim team practices. It has become such an important part of our children's swim training and we are really grateful!

I found Pikes Peak Athletics by googling "swim summer camps" and I found they had a pre-competitive swim program for children ages 7 and up - perfect for my boys. I called them and Courtney at the front desk was so kind, patient and helpful. She scheduled and performed an evaluation the next day and then immediately enrolled them into classes. The facilities were beautiful and obviously geared towards serious swimmers. My boys were placed into the pre-competitive swim class called base camp. It is at the same time as the swim team practices, you could sense the camaraderie between the coaches and swimmers and you could see what fantastic swimmers the PPAs produces. My boys were initially intimidated by such a large facility. However, the instructors specifically Quintin McCarty, Chance and Brian were so kind and welcoming that they immediately felt at ease. The sessions are 45 mins long and the instructors are really focused on technique and form. What impressed me most was how much personal coaching they gave my sons- especially Quintin. After one week, I can already see huge improvements in my boys' freestyle, butterfly and diving - and of course endurance. I feel so fortunate to have found such a great facility and my boys love going there! Thanks for being so welcoming to us and for having such a dedicated group of instructors. And thank you again Courtney for organizing the schedule to maximize the time with the instructors while we are here in Colorado. You are awesome!

For proof that they don't care about neighbors, today they are cleaning the pool before opening for the season and I was woken up by heavy equipment noises at 6:30 am. The city noise ordinance says you can't start until 7am. I just wish they were held to the same rules that residents are, since they operate within a residential neighborhood & not in a business district. Last year, for the first time ever, they had a live band at the end of the season. They claimed to have a noise permit, though I never saw proof. Still, I asked them to turn it down. The music was rattling my house and they really don't have the space for amphitheater volume level acoustics anyways. I spoke with the president of the pool & requested notice for events like this, because it can really mess with plans if I want to exist on my own property at the same time & he stated it will still probably happen twice a year. I doubt I'll get prior notice since I'm not paying the insanely expensive fees to be a member. In all my conversations with the pool, all I've asked for was common courtesy. And each time, even if it wasn't a mean response, which they have been at times, I've felt bulldozed and ignored because they seem to feel more important than courtesies and being a good neighbor. It's like they think- Gotta make that money. We don't care if you need earplugs inside your own house.
