A beautiful campground located on a hill overlooking Lake Salem…read more 80% of the sites are seasonal campers, meaning they leave there RV on site all summer long. This usually means quiet weekdays and crowded noisy weekends. This was the case the two times we camped here. They do have some tent sites for those who dare. Most sites have water and electric. Not so sure on cable/ satellite. The grounds are clean and well cared for. Big fields all mowed are perfect for hiking and walking. Much of the land is open for dog walking and general hiking. Inside the campground, is clean and the property is well maintained. There is a pool, playground, and a small camp store that has ice, wood, and staple groceries. We like this campground for the following reasons: 1. It is really beautiful here. The views are amazing. 2. It is close to town (Newport, and the Canadian border 7 minute drive) 3. Lakes are everywhere! (Salem, Willoughby, Memphremagog, Crystal, Seymour) 4. Close to I-91 5. Wonderful day hiking nearby. 6. The rules here at this campground are reasonable. They don't bust your ass for every little thing. It can get a bit wild on holiday weekends. Some negs: -The bathrooms are old and dirty. Yes its a campground but please update the bathrooms. They are just gross. -Golf carts EVERYWHERE. What happened to just walking? -Dogs must be leashed at all times. Cell phone service believe it or not ,is good here. AT&T.

It was $5 for internet that didn't work (they did give us our money back but we picked it based on the fact they had it) and they charge $15 to use the dump station, even though we had already paid $45 to stay there. With a $45 rate, it should be included.

An adorable little campground on beautiful Lake Willoughby. The campground is small, but has plenty…read moreof amenities. RV sites, tent sites and cabin rentals. Bike and kayak rentals, clean bathrooms and showers, and a general store with just about anything you could need. Including fresh breakfast and lunch items, and even a deli. Everyone here is helpful and personable. And the views can't be beat. Even on one particularly rainy day, it was gorgeous. A solid four stars. One note. Spaces are really tight and in some cases, impossibly close together. Some sites, I wonder how people even get their rigs in. But you're there for the lake and getting out into nature, so it's not horrible once you get parked.

Besides the obvious breathtaking view and proximity of Lake Willoughby, this property makes for a wonderful stay! My wife and I stayed in one of the cabins (which they didn't have 30 years ago). We found it to be clean and comfortable. It had a little fridge, electric outlets and lights. Bring your own linens. Outside the cabin, there was a picnic table and a fire ring. There is a porch with a couple of chairs. Clean, functional bathrooms with hot showers. Easy garbage disposing and recycling. The camp store had all the needs for your stay, just in case you forgot anything. Pleasant people to deal with. All in all, I give this a solid 4 stars. I think most folks would enjoy this place!

A gate code is needed to access the campground. We rented a cabin here. There are four. Two of them are 'deluxe' and have indoor cook tops. The others do not allow indoor cooking and have grills outside. The kitchen was very well kitted with everything you could need. The Deluxe cabin we rented was decorated in a cabin style with bear and moose motif items. A table for two in the kitchen, a couch for two or three and a nice rocker. A small desk is in the corner of the livingroom with a kitchen chair for seating. Hooks for coats and a place for shoes by the door. The gas fireplace is shut off in the summer because the pilot heats up the cabin. They are on from Septemer 1st. The bedroom has a queen bed, (linens and blankets provided) full dresser, bedside tables, another kitchen chair (a total of four in the cabin) and luggage rack. Two narrow closets included hangers, extra pillows and towels for the pool or hot tub. Three quarter bath was well maintained. Two bath towels and one hand towel. Hand soap on vanity. Hair dryer and extra TP under sink. Shelves for toiletries. Clothes hook on back of door. Two seats and a table are on the front porch. Our parking space was in front of the porch. A picnic table and firepit are to the right of the porch, at the end of the parking space. Our porch faced the gravel road into the campground. The campground is tiered from the road down to the river with camper spots on each tier. No spots are directly on the river. A field designated as a dog exercise area is next to the river, then a small, rocky beach to the river. The road noise is heard throughout the campground, even at the brook where the river babbles over the stones, which is very pleasant. The onsite store rents tubes for riding the river. A path to the left of the dog area ends where you can put the tube in the water, ride it to the end of the beach and repeat the process. Laundry, public bathrooms and shower bathrooms are in a newer, climate controlled building near the playground. A pass code is needed to enter. Two pools and a hot tub are near the office/store. Mini-golf is behind the store. Dump station on the way out near the dumpsters. Gravel roads are maintained. Some site have full hook-up, fire pit and picnic table. Very pet friendly.

The tents come with one queen size bed and two twins. The wood stove kept the inside nice and warm during the cool nights. Outside there were Adirondack chairs, a fire pit and charcoal grill. The porta-potty was spotless, and even though we never used the outdoor shower, it was clean and looked very fun. Our weekend package came with a UTV rental. Jamie with Bear Rock took the time to go over everything with the rental, explain the vehicle and what the rules are. He also had trips loaded into the navigation so we could pick from trips that were easy to intermediate. We chose a 4-6 hour loop that took us from Colebrook, into VT, next to Canada and through Pittsburg. We stopped at their main store in Pittsburg, everyone was super nice. It did rain for the second half of the trip, and we were very wet by the time we made it back to the tent, but overall we had a great time. I highly recommend the stay and play package, well worth the money for the experiences you get.
