We have a massive tree in our backyard that is the jewel of our backyard, in fact, our house was built around the tree. Last year we noticed it was growing a fungus from the trunk and dropping leaves and branches; we were/are terrified that the tree will die and will need to be removed. We called Cobb's/Providence Horticulture and Robert Dupree (a certified and licensed arborist) came over and talked with me for almost an hour, explaining the tree's illness and what he was doing to treat it. It ended up being such an interesting conversation about what kinds of trees do and don't survive in the San Joaquin Valley and what we as homeowners should look for and at when purchasing trees or a home with trees. We had them prune and strip the dead pine needles off our redwoods in our backyard. We also had a redwood in the corner of our backyard that had a weak trunk at about 25 feet due to a wound made from a falling branch last winter. Cobbs tree care came out one week and did an awesome job stripping and pruning the trees. There was no access to the tree in the corner for any heavy equipment so this week they returned with tires, and plywood. They protected the pool decking and tile and topped the tree. There was zero damage. Both times they completely cleaned up all debris and the pool was left sparkling clean. Everyone involved was professional and very nice. Steve gave me estimates of the work to be done and the cost. We will be asking them to come back next year for the other side of our yard. read more

I'm obsessed with my garden and Providence Horticulture/Cobbs helps me every step of the way. I have a beautiful old olive tree that I was worried about and called the arborist for a consultation. They evaluated its health and let me know it was ok. They also spray it yearly to prevent olives and helped to prune it into a natural shape. I also have my garden fertilized 4 times a year. Their fertilizer mixture is season specific and helps keep my garden fed-even during the excruciating summer heat. In addition, they spray my crepe Myrtle's and roses early in the season to prevent pests, like white fly, later in the season. Lastly, they've trimmed and shaped our large trees. I want to specifically mention Mike for the special care he gives my plants--also, he doesn't mind it when I micromanage his work! read more

Cobb's is definitely the people you want working on your trees. The crew is very professional and knowledgeable as well as efficient with their time. Our 40 year old trees--pear, maple, mulberry--were in need of major work. Lots of dead wood, lots of overlapping branches, years of growth. The crew arrived at the time they said they would, got right to work, and in three hours had all the trees pruned, the wood shredded, the yards raked, and they were gone. We've used Cobb's for years to prune our trees in the backyard. Last week, we had a tree damaged in the strong winds (as did many people across Fresno and Clovis). They came out quickly the next day, gave us an estimate and came back later in the day to remove the part of the tree that damaged our neighbor's garage (so he could get that patched before the impending rain). A couple of days later, the crew was back to take down the rest of the tree before it could do more damage. Very happy with their responsiveness at a time when they had lots of emergency calls and their work while here. They were all communicative and polite and did their jobs efficiently. read more

Needed to have a tree removed from my property. Received bids from a number of licensed and insured companies ranging from $2000 to $4500, all of which would complete the job in 1-2 days. My neighbor suggested that I also contact Cobb's for a quote. After inspection, they took 5 days to provide the quote, when everyone else provided an immediate price. When they finally emailed the quote a day later then promised, it was $18500.00 to remove a single tree. When I called them to make sure there was not some mistake, they informed me that this was not mistake, and that the job would take a week to complete. I have been using Cobb's over the years for tree removal & trimming services. Their service has always been excellent & Steve is very knowledgeable. I had to call them yesterday because my large Chinese pist. lost a major limb & basically split itself in half Sunday afternoon. The fallen piece went across my driveway in front of my 3 car garage. One of my vehicles was in front of 3rd space and fortunate as top part of tree went across my rear glass & truck & no damage to car & also fortunate none of the limb's hit my house. I called office 1st thing Mon. Received callback couple of hours later & Steve was at my house around noontime. Steve gave me a quote, I accepted, & Steve set up crew to come Tuesday. Crew showed up Tuesday and did a wonderful job cleaning up fallen limb & cutting down rest of tree. Crew was professional, punctual, & cleaned everything up. Boy, am I an unhappy customer! The quality of the work was great but they ruined any good will by using my house as their equipment yard. The job as done on a Tuesday - they came at 7 am and were done by 2 pm. They parked a huge elevated platform in front of my house the Friday before the job - it is still there as I write this on Thursday evening, which means that for the less than one day job, I got the privilege of storing their equipment at my property for a week. I should invoice them a storage fee. My only regret is that I paid them promptly - on line the day they did the work - over $3000. I should have refused to pay until their equipment was gone. They sure made a fool out of me. I will find a different tree company next time that actually cares about the customer. read more

Five stars for their work. The contractor arrived smack on time to give me an estimate. I explained what trimming I wanted done and how I wanted it done, and he understood completely. He also gave me great advice on planting a tree that I wanted to shade the south side of my house. He gave me a couple of species options, which were all within the size range I need for that part of my property. He even poked around in my bushes and found a problem with my sprinklers that I didn't even know I had. They arrived for the appointment right on time, too. They thinned out my wildly overgrown camphor tree and raised the pine tree without making it look like a mushroom (a long trunk with a tiny head of green at the top). The camphor now looks evenly balanced, has a natural shape, has no dead branches, but still gives the west side of my home plenty of afternoon shade. There wasn't a stray leaf or branch in my yard when they left, either. They also planted a crape myrtle for me the same afternoon. They put it where I wanted , and gave me advice on how to care for it for the next 4-6 months so it will get well established in my yard. They also picked up the crape myrtle from the nursery where I purchased it with absolutely no hassles for no extra charge. Three stars for their appointment-making system. They only book appointments on Friday afternoons. I agreed to their estimate on a Monday, and they didn't call me until the following Friday with a date and time. And even though I explained that I'm only available Friday afternoons (they don't work weekends), they originally booked me for a Wednesday morning. No can do. I had to wait until the *following* Friday for a new appointment. It's kind of an odd system, but they do do good work. read more

In my opinion, this is a terrible, irresponsible, non-communicative company. They cut down a large tree in our front yard without requesting our permission or advance notification. I calculated It's value at $1200. It had a minor (and curable) condition that I had treated and was on the mend. Needless to say, I have started a Small Claims Court. lawsuit... read more

What a team of professionals! The owner gave a written estimate, free of charge. When the day, of tree trimming arrived, they set up their tools early, but did not start with noisy machinery, until later in the morning. The group works as a well oiled machine. They trimmed 4 trees, and removed a smaller tree. They completed the job in about three hours. I hardly even noticed they were here! A majority of the work was done with a hand saw. The power saw was used minimally, but effectively. The most noise I heard was the chipper, then the blower, for clean up. They did such a great job of cleaning, even going so far, as to remove a branch from the pool. I will use their services, in the future. They know what they are doing! read more

My estimate was completed by Edgar and there he was on my job a week later. I had 5 twenty year old sequoias removed due to root damage so it was a pretty big job. Edgar and the crew arrived on time and got right to work. I cannot say enough about their professionalism from beginning to the cleanup. Our HOA recently hired this company to prune redwood trees up 5' from the ground and prune shrubs in-between each redwood. They only did about half and cut the shrubs to the ground basically killing them. They were also to remove volunteer trees that they found- they are all still there. They did next to zero clean up. The job was left incomplete. To make it worse the check was released by the property management and Cobb Tree refused to come complete the job or even clean up the mess. I have used Cobb Tree Care since buying my home in 1996. They trim my trees and do the occasional spraying if a tree has blight or mistletoe. Cobb's service people are very professional and really know how to trim - not just chop away like so many others do. They dispose of the trimmings and leave my yard as clean as they found it. Very disappointed! Cobb's came highly recommended by our landscaper. We were on vacation when they were able to do the work and, from the looks of things, they sent their "mow and blow" guys. Tree #1: OK, but a little thin. Tree #2, did not trim enough off the side that needed thinning; still unbalanced. Tree#3, several broken branches left on tree; wisteria entwined was not removed or even cut away from the tree; some cut branches left on other plants and in tree itself. Had some redwoods in which needles were turning brown. Called their Tree Doctor Service to come out and take a look at the trees and recommend treatment. Was promptly told that there would be a $50 charge for someone to come out regardless of what they assessed once on site. I said ok and scheduled an appointment. A guy came out and made his diagnosis by observing 20 feet away from the tree. His "opinion" was that the tree was a redwood and that redwoods don't do well in the Valley and he didn't know why people grew them here. I made him go to the tree and look at the branches. I also made him take a look at the ones in the back. He said that the ones in the back were getting too much sun. I explained to him that these trees have been here for over 25 years and are now 200 feet tall and had never had this problem until this year. He told me to water them more. I never changed watering habits so I asked him why this year. Had no answer and left. Since then I have increased watering with no positive result and have noticed some webs forming on the trees and a eight legged insects inside web. I and googled my observations. They appear to be spider mites and should be treated with a summer oil or soap pest solution (not with an insecticide since it would kill any natural predator and make the mites flourish more).
