This is now the second job we have hired Anderson Landscaping for. This company is what real professionals look like. I did read the other yelp review but this has not been our experience at all. In fact we have other projects planned and will be hiring Anderson Landscaping every time! To start the owner Bill Anderson answers his phone and promptly returns phone calls. He is a good communicator and is very direct. I found him to be extremely clear in his estimates and throughout the process. He kept us in the loop, the crews showed up when they told us they would be there, and there were no surprises! They were also flexible, we changed a few things a long the way and making the changes were taken in stride. The crews working in our back yard were extremely responsible and respectful of our property. I have not seen any trash or dirt left behind between work days. They have cleaned up and left the patios clean every single day they have been working here. Our family or neighbors have not been disrupted because of this landscaping project. In our previous home we did a complete Landscaping project and from start to finish it was perfect. Our drought tolerant made it through the drought. Our sprinklers always worked perfectly. We will use Anderson Landscaping for future projects every time! read more

They replaced our front yard with synthetic turf, redid our backyard, and have removed and replaced a couple of smaller trees. Used Anderson landscaping to redo our sprinkler system while installing a pool. They installed drip lines to our redwood and palm trees. They charged outrages price for what was done (6500.00) but we wanted it done and trusted that it was best. Not happy at all with what they did. Do not recommend them at all. Anderson Landscaping redesigned our front yard, removing grass and creating a drought-tolerant landscape. Mark and crew were super considerate, keeping our backyard and neighborhood in mind with a feel and look we both love. We generally do not like the drought-tolerant look however this crew pulled off a beautiful mountain type of landscape including a dry riverbed. We also wanted a "road" leading to our RV gate which now serves as extra parking when guests are over. I would work with Mark again! He was professional, and efficient and talked through all of my concerns before we started, as well as being on-site to answer questions during the project. This is the second project I've hired Anderson Landscaping for. They landscaped my bare backyard 3.5 years ago and now they just completed a complete re-do of my front yard. I've been very happy with both jobs. Mark listened to what I wanted, was easy to communicate with (and always quick to respond), and often checked in during the process to make sure I was happy with how each project was progressing. I was made aware of the projected timeline (approx 6-7 months) before I put my deposit down. I appreciated the team who was working each day - they were respectful of my property, made sure I was happy with the placement of plants/boulders/etc., and always cleaned up each day before they left. Three years ago, we went with a small contractor that left us with a complete disaster. We did have to wait about 6 months, that was explained to me from when we got the quote. I hired Anderson Landscaping to redo my lawn, sort a grading issue, and resolve sprinkler issues. The team did the work fine, but they left trash in my yard at the end of the day, blocked my driveway almost every day, used my hose pipe/water as they wished, and wired the sprinklers back together wrong (which I fixed). As I explained to Mark, it's a shame when the work is good but the delivery is questionable. read more

They sent me to collections for 25$ for services that they never rendered. I cancelled my service the end of September and they billed me for two separate weeks in October. My lawn was ruined and they refused to remedy the situation. I'm disappointed with their irresponsible and dishonest practices. The business is short on integrity and professionalism. read more

Our landscaping looks great, but Mark, who was in charge of our project is not an honest person, and we had multiple issues throughout the project. He spent about 45 minutes walking through our backyard with my husband and I. He measured things, took notes, etc. Then we got a write up of costs and materials. It all looked good except he had crushed stone instead of River stone listed for the area under the trampoline. No problem, an honest mistake, and easily resolved. What struck us though was the amount he listed. We know about how much stone weighs because we used it in a large area of the yard in our last home, and Mark had us paying for more than 3 times the amount of stone he would need for our small spot. That was a red flag, but it got fixed too, and a few weeks later the workers showed up to begin the project. Once they were settled, I left for the day with my children. When I returned, the retention wall was being built, and with great progress, straight through the middle of our backyard. Not at all where we had discussed with Mark during our walk through, and not at all in a logical place that anyone would ever want or need a retention wall. The whole point of the wall was to separate the garden dirt area from the concrete and pool. They had built it through the middle of our yard, separating the grass from the pool area. It was ridiculous looking. I called my husband and he addressed it. Mark came over that evening and he actually argued with my husband about it. My husband, who never loses his temper, was angry that he didn't immediately agree to fix his obvious error. Mark finally said it would be fixed. The next day the workers were annoyed (as anyone would be) but very respectful, and they fixed it. Fast forward about a week. I'm trying to round up my 4 and 5 year old boys to leave the house while also dealing with my then screaming 2 year old boy, and I stop to respond to a knock on my back door. I'm told that the job is finished and I'm asked to sign off on the work being done. With a crying baby in one arm, I signed the document with the other. It was pretty obvious that I didn't have time or the ability to go walk through the backyard at that moment, and I trusted they had finished the work that looked very close to being done the evening before, so... I signed off, loaded the kids in the car and was off 5 minutes later as planned. That evening, my husband and I went outside to admire our new yard, and we were shocked to see that the last part of the retention wall had not been built. It just came to an odd stop and did not round the corner to the fence as we had discussed with Mark. Honestly, I think they just ran out of stone and instead of getting more to build the last 3 feet to the fence, they just tapered it down and tried to make it look as best they could with the materials they had left. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't done. We aren't complainers, and we had already had to deal with the first error, didn't want to stir the pot again, so we tried to convince ourselves it was fine. But the more we had people over, discussed it and looked at it with guests, the more it bothered us. Everyone agreed that it looked "ok, but incomplete." The biggest thing we couldn't get over is that it was not what we had agreed to pay for. So finally I called. The receptionist was lovely. She said she'd look into it and she did. I was called back and told that someone would come look at it. Someone did. We were told that because I had signed off on the completion of the job, it was considered done, and it would cost $300 for them to fix it. We were livid. We had already paid thousands of dollars for this work that wasn't completed and couldn't believe they would charge us extra for fixing their error. The nice receptionist then told me that Mark was claiming that he never visited our home and that all plans had been made over the phone, and that's why errors had been made. I told her that was ridiculous. I was there when we walked through the original plans. I was also there when he came to look at the first retention wall error. She arranged for an owner to come either do the fixing or observe the fixing, but the $300 charge was still in place. At this point, we resigned to "WHATEVER", we just wanted it done. The owner did come out and it did get fixed. We never did receive a bill, so I can only assume he agreed that it was their responsibility to finish the work. I appreciate that, and we really love our yard. However, I wouldn't use them again. And if you do, make sure to get an owner managing your project. Steer clear of Mark. read more

I used Anderson landscaping for months until I started finding damage to my property. At first it was just garden decorations here and there but then one of our sprinklers was broken and ended up with us cancelling their service due to this carelessness. Another issue was that we paid for a weekly service and one week they didn't show up we were advised that since they came out 5 times in a month (just by how the days lined up) they'd skip one week the following month. Which no one advised us of. Ultimately we were contacted by Bill, the owner, who was very defensive and rude. I didn't expect any compensation but an apology and some empathy would've been nice. But we didn't get that so we wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I hired Anderson Landscaping to do the plumbing work involved in converting my older manual sprinkler valves to newer electrically controlled automated valves. (I performed the low voltage electrical work and timer installation myself). THE GOOD: The work was generally well done and of fairly high quality. The person I talked to on the phone (the owner of the company) was friendly and accommodating. The work was completed in a timely fashion. They have an exceptional web site with lots of information and a way to contact them online. THE BAD: The workers left behind some trash in the yard (product packaging and teflon tape pieces, to be exact). When the owner called me to gather more information in response to my work request email, he neglected to mention the 3% surcharge for the use of a credit card as payment. He didn't mention this until the work was completed and he called to get the credit card information, even though my original work request specified that I'd be using a credit card as payment. Also, the overall cost was rather high considering the limited work that was done. CONCLUSION: I'd recommend Anderson Landscaping, but only if you are very specific from the beginning about what work you expect to be completed. Ask detailed questions about the price for both materials and labor. Get it in writing. In my opinion, the quality of work is moderately good, but the business practices could use improvement. read more

I contacted Bill for a quote today. We originally reviewed the monthly yard maintenance and what is included. He called back to say that he can stop by to give me a quote and I indicated that's perfect as I have another landscaper leaving at the approximate time. His tone changed immediately and he asked how many quotes I'll be receiving. He said he didn't need the competition and became frustrated and said he didn't want to waste his time. I responded with, "Don't waste your time and don't worry about stopping by!" He said, great and hung up on me. RUDE! He needs to understand that we all work hard for our money and don't shame me if I want an extra quote. Funny thing - I probably would pay more than your quote, but you don't gain business being a pompous and self absorbed jerk. Thank you for showing your true colors on our 2nd phone call. read more

That was an interesting response from the business. I'm not sure why the company mentioned 70 ft. for the sidewalk job in thier response. They didn't even want to come out to look at the site. I told them it was approximately 150 ft. It turned out to be 200 ft. when it was finished. Customer service & quality rate much higher than price on my scale. I wasn't looking for the cheapest contractor for this job. I believe that "quality costs" & "you get what you pay for". I'll add an extra star for the response to my initial review. Wow, where to start? Is really hard to have to hire another person to complete work and fix issues that Anderson did not resolve. I have since read other reviews and replies. It's par for the course. They'll debate that you know what you're talking about and argue with you, even they don't do what was originally asked. For example, they installed the wrong color DG all over my backyard while I was at work, and when I complained, they said they picked the color because it wasn't specified in the contract. Lesson learned. How could I believe that a detail that we spoke about repeatedly would actually get done as discussed. Even when it was time for payment and brought me bill with a due date 2 weeks out, they hassled me wanting payment immediately, that day. They said they would come to my house to get the check the next day until I paid. No thanks. I sent it certified mail. I was on vacation the week after and got a super long text message about how payment wasn't received and they would take other steps. The check has already cleared several days earlier. This page isn't long enough to go over all the issues we had. At one point, we were going to forgo our $1k deposit and eat the cost and move on. I wish we had. It would've been less money than the landscaper I have here fixing their mistakes. Im sure they'll reply to this message with their lengthy defense. But when you read it all, and something inside you questions what the truth is and whether you should call them, trust your gut and find someone else. read more

Never use this company!!! Mark and his crew were hired to level out our backyard and put in a concrete patio, walkway and install a fence. Everything they did was terrible. Nothing was level or even close to being straight. They cut every corner possible and all the while coming to us begging for more money because he was in a tight spot and couldn't pay his workers. His crew peed in our backyard for the entire summer they were "doing" the job. We had many many meetings with Mark telling him exactly what we wanted especially when it came to doing the drainage of the yard. His crew couldn't level a yard or put in proper drainage to save their lives. My husband came home one day from work and he took one look at the fence they were installing and saw that is was not even close to being straight.. the guy actually said... geez you have a good eye... as if he knew it was a shitty install and hoped we wouldn't have noticed. This happened at least a couple times a week where my husband would see something done wrong and they just didn't care enough to do a good job. Turns out that one of the main drains wasn't even hooked up, none of the pipes were glued and they set them in sand which when they were dug up... they were full of sand already. It took the entire summer for them to dig up (by hand... Mark wouldn't bring in machinery and our yard is all clay) and then put an insane amount of new material back down in its place. We told Mark from the start that we wanted the yard to be all one level... grass lining up with the concrete patio. As time went on the grass area got higher and higher... now, instead of having a nice flat backyard we have these two uneven sections that are a few feet different in some areas. Safe to say that we fired Mark after the summer and basically threw away an insane amount of money. We have now hired a different company and it is unbelievable how efficient and detail oriented this new crew is. They came in with a couple of machines and took out everything Mark's crew did in two days!!!! Two days!!! An entire summer wasted with Mark's company. It was an absolute nightmare and we learned a hard lesson in dealing with a terrible company. Do not ever use Mark and his crew!!! I could go on and on about all the things that went down with his crew and Mark himself... I'll just say that they were dishonest and unprofessional and leave it at that. read more

They did an excellent job installing a brand new sprinkler system and replacing the lawn in my back yard. They worked very quickly and were even able to accommodate my demanding schedule and have the work done sooner than originally promised so the yard would look nice for a party I was throwing. We had our whole backyard done by Anderson Landscape. We are very happy with it.It was all dirt before. They did a sprinkler system, sod and flowers. I told him what we wanted and the owner was very knowledgeable and told us what plants were low maintenance. He didn't seemed bothered by all our questions which I really liked. We also told him we had dogs so we wanted the sod that wouldn't die when they went to the bathroom on it. We had this done over a year ago and are still happy with the results. We called on the recommendation of our daughter who had work done by this business several years ago. We had a problem with our sprinklers and potential need for a new system and appreciated a sound referral. A leak had been identified by The City that needed attention. However after leaving a message and explaining our situation, I received no call back. So I placed a follow up phone call and had one of the most curt, unprofessional and rude conversations from a local business owner to date. He acknowledged receiving my message and said he was so busy and booked out until Oct that he had no plans to return my phone call for a problem like this. Taken aback by that statement, but based on his prior work on my daughters backyard, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. So valuing his occupational opinion, I asked if there was anyone he might recommend as he was so busy & maybe had a friend or fellow business owner in need of this job. He said, and I quote, "Do you get the paper?" I answered yes, to which he replied "then look up any of the ads for a landscaper." I value customer service and I respect professional opinions from business owners who provide quality service for their skills. I felt like my problem was inconsequential to him and not even worth a simple phone call back or respectful conversation. Customer service and decency could have been a quick call back to state he was very busy and would not be able to address this concern until Oct and if that was too long of a wait, he understood. Instead, this was a cringeworthy experience for myself and I promise I will never inconvenience Mr Anderson ever again. Nor will my Daughter who is now looking for a new company to do the expansion she and her Husband are planning for their new home. They have "maintained" our yard for nearly 2 years. First 6 months the work was done by landscape crew & supervised by Bill Anderson. This work was to our satisfaction. After this time period, we have had at least 2-3 other crews. The work has been below average, with us as homeowners asking ( sometimes begging) for shrubs to get pruned etc. referred to. "weed man" (an extra $125 every 6 weeks) to manage the weeds. 2 months later property is full of weeds & maintainence looks like "blow, mow & go"! We've let them go!!! read more

Absolutely terrible. Would never recommend EVER. Claimed to make my yard "drought friendly" but all it did was kill my lawn and ruin my sprinklers. They claimed to put in the "highest quality" materials, but all they did was use the cheapest stuff they could find. When saying they would maintain the yard, they hardly did anything when they were here and most of the time didn't bother to show up at all. The yard died within months of finishing the install. They came back and claimed to fix it. Within WEEKS it died and they wouldn't return my calls. The owner was rude and kept overcharging us. He was manipulative and inappropriate.
