This imaging facility charged $2.6k for an ultrasound service and I ended up being responsible for half of the remaining balance. Later I found out that Cedars-Sinai (Torrance Memorial is an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai) charges some of the highest rates for abdominal ultrasounds (CPT 76700) in Los Angeles County for standard PPO plans and the median negotiated prices in Los Angeles County are lower than four figures. I did send a message through their feedback portal ( http://torrancememorial.org/patientfeedback ) and honestly I was not surprised that they didn't respond even after I had left my contact information and asked to be contacted regarding this matter. I ended up calling the billing department and the staff simply said that's how it is billed & the only action they took was mailing the itemized charges. Main takeaway message - only come here if you have HMO insurance. If you have PPO insurance, get a price check on the Torrance Memorial website on price transparency ( https://www.torrancememorial.org/patients-visitors/billing-insurance/price-transparency/ ) by reviewing the machine-readable file that provides pricing information before committing to an imaging service at this facility.
