I'd give this hospital 1 star had it not been for the wonderful ER Doctor to performed the surgery of stitching up my step-son's wound and for the nursing staff and X-ray tech. They were all wonderful. The poor rating is for the billing department. My insurance card states that 100% is covered if admitted or seen in the ER within 24 hours of the accident. Otherwise for non-emergency it is $100. My stepson sliced his right arm open on a tree branch that required 10 stitches. If that does not constitute for an emergency, then I don't know what does. The wound was 2 inches long and .5 inches wide with none exposed. The billing department ignored what was on my card that was issued 12/19/15 and stated that they go by what the website states. The website was printed for me and even there, clear in black and white was the same information as stated on my card. Who deemed it not an emergency is beyond me but they will be hearing about this and I will be sure to have my insurance company reimburse me. The manager suggested that I get a new card, however i will be unable to until the next open enrollment. An insurance company does not simply change co pay amounts in the middle of one's covered period let alone do it without informing the insured. Shame on you billing department In the future, my advice is to be sure to not hand over your payment until all insurance matters are cleared. read more

Dear patients, I have had to come here lots of times because of the fact I have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Every time I come I get greeted by the greatest nurse I've ever met from 13 years of being sick his name is Frank a.k.a. Frankie. He treats me like a little sister and I've known him about 1 and a half years. He's great at drawing blood, doesn't even hurt. When I'm going for tests he always makes sure I get my medicine first so I'm not in so much pain... he's so caring and thoughtful not to mention LOVES HIS FAMILY I greatly appreciate the work he does and I had the pleasure of meeting Trisha a charge nurse. I dislocated my wrist playing soccer in Laguna beach high school, first time to rush into emergency for myself, after filling the forms at the ER front desk window, waited for a while about 10-15 mins until the nurse called my name. She was very nice, asked all the questions, I was worried for how much time is passing & the haven't looked at it, I was like "aren't you supposed to put my hand back in its place ASAP!! She calmed me down as my fingers didn't change color and said x-ray is needed then doc will fix it, the x-ray lady was also very nice, took two X-rays, showed that I both dislocated & fractured my wrist and had to wait more to get another opinion whether to operate or just to put it back in place and wrap it in cast, doctor decided to give it a chance to heal without operation thy accept cigna for insurance read more

What an awesome little hospital! While on vacation I started having chest pains and ended up at this little hospital hidden in the hills in Laguna Beach. The staff here is amazingly friendly, the food was good, and I had a million dollar ocean view from the nicest little private hospital room ever. I would highly recommend this hospital and if I lived here- this would be my first choice. I cannot get over how polite and professional everyone is at this place. This review is regarding the Behavioral Unit Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Ca. This hospital is absolutely horrid! My daughter went into the hospital voluntarily and when she asked the next morning when she could go home she was put on a 72 hour hold. Family could not communicate with her the staff was extremely patronizing and rude. The doctor refused to communicate with family and nobody knew when he was going to show up. Our daughter shared many things she observed and it sounds to me like this hospital should be investigated. The patients are not cared for with any kind of compassion! Our daughter was also asked several times what kind of insurance she had. Our insurance is good and it made us wondered if that was why they kept her so long? My doctor sent me to the ER at Mission in LB last week due to complications with a severe Covid infection. From the moment I stepped in the door I felt I was in good hands. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive. Jennifer was kind enough to take care of me for most of the day and answered all my questions. I wish I remembered the names of all the other nurses, x-ray tech and doctors I saw that day. Thank you Mission Hospital ER team for everything you did for me. I had a friend that was recently hospitalized. I amazed by how secure this place is. Visitors have to check in with an ID. That's awesome! It really means alot of to my friend because she had safety issues in the pass. The entire staff here were very friendly and caring. There are also a handful of volunteers that dedicate their time to be here. I met one that has been volunteering for over 14yrs! That is amazing. This place is almost 5 stars. Parking is not free. I was recently admitted for a stay following my surgery. I have been a patient of MHLB for many years, however have never needed to stay overnight. My experience was amazing from the check-in, to the prep, to the surgery to the care received post surgery. All of of the team is wonderful! However I do want to recognize the following individuals; Carmen, Michelle, Margarita, Debbie, Susy, these ladies really made me feel good! Overall my experience was AMAZING! I specifically created a Yelp account because of the TERRIBLE service I received at this hospital. GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR MEDICAL HELP. I had very sharp stomach pain when I got to the ER. I was there for hours, but what I need to get out online is this....... I had given a urine sample as soon as I was admitted into my room. I had put the cup on the sink in the attached bathroom (private room/attached private bathroom.) I had multiple scans/tests done over hours of being there that day. When the DR came in at the end he said "Everything looks OK." You are free to go. My stomach pain hadn't went away. BUT HERE IS THE WORST PART...... The Dr said "Your urinalysis came back negative" - I went into change back into my clothes and saw that my urine sample was still sitting on the counter (NEVER EVER EVEN PROCESSED) - NO RESULTS - So I asked for the DR to come back in the room and I said....."There is no way you have results from my lab tests because here is my urine." He quickly left the room and came back and said...."Oh, I'm sorry I thought yours was one of the 5 I ran earlier, Let me run that for you now." I said - NO WAY - and left I also had a very inexperienced nurse that put my IV in my arm and had blood drip al the way down to my wrist. No one the entire time time I was there offered to clean it off for me. Disgusting. BUT THE WORST THING is that .......I have called the hospital 3 times to let them know about this because I AM BEING CHARGED for a urinalysis that I didn't ever go - and today they told me....."There is nothing else we can do for you. If you don't pay we are sending this to collections." OMG read more

Wow! I just had the best care for my two year old in the Laguna Beach ER location. It was a rough day for sure (daughter fell and bit through her lip and needed to be knocked out for stitches), but I couldn't go to bed tonight without thanking the team for their exemplary care. Nurse Vladimir, Nurse Frank, Nurse Ruth, Nurse Kim, Dr. Abdi, Dr. Jeff and, the masterful, Dr. Lee. Blown away by your skill compassion, and team work. You are all credits to your profession and I am one grateful mama to have been under your care for my daughter today. I'm sorry if I missed anyone else...I had nothing but friendly faces and kindness from every person we passed in the hallway. Just can't say enough good things about my experience. I was considering driving up to Hoag because I am familiar with it, but I knew Mission was just so much closer that I didn't want to chance the drive up to Hoag. The ER is never a fun place, however the other night I had to take my 16 year old daughter in for extreme pain on her lower side. The front desk was pleasant and sensitive. She ended up having a golf ball size cyst and It was Painful. Joshua, our nurse and our ER physician were more than kind, attentive and helpful with her care. I am a nurse who became extremely ill with Covid Pneumonia and was hospitalized for a week. A nurses aid who was a male was inappropriate not only in how he talked to me but how he took care of me. I have reached out and have heard nothing. After discharge my pneumonia became worse and my doctor sent me back to the Er with a diagnosis of Covid pneumonia. The bill was coded as a medical problem and not Covid so for a three hour visit I am charged $4000 . The insurance states they cannot fix improper codes and I called Providence and they said there is nothing they can do. I always pay my bills and have worked in the frontlines. This is what goes on beyond the close doors and why I left this facility as an employee. This is the company I worked 23 years for. Nurses are leaving for this very reason. We put our life on the line and this is the truth of hero treatment. Never ceases to amaze me that caregivers are not cared for. read more

I was sent here by my therapist for severe depression/ anxiety and I'm definitely grateful for the experience. I was taken to the ER where I was asked some questions by the head nurse. He was super nice and made me feel really comfortable. The assessment team arrived probably like 2 hours later (in the past it's taken 24 hours), even though it was late at night. I was taken to my room which was clean and had a nice view of the ocean. They had groups almost every hour of the day which were useful. Every day I would meet with the doctor, nurse, and social worker who would closely monitor my mood and any med changes. The staff was super kind. They would check up on patients who were struggling and encourage them to try to eat or join groups. The food was okay, just your average hospital food, but they had a huge menu that you could choose from every day. It actually feels like the staff cares. I still get phone calls from them checking up on me and it's almost been a year since I've been there. I would definitely recommend for adults struggling with mental health. read more

I know sometimes they can be overwhelmed but instead of treating patient, the accuse patient when a patient ask to be helped or report them to Medical Board. They even go as far as manipulate your health results just to get away from a liability of wrong care. Some people here should not be working here since they have no desire to help people. Jesus this hospital is shit. Made me really miss Hoag. It's always busy at Hoag but they are used to a fast pace and the staff is younger which apparently makes them friendlier. This hospital wants patients to fail. They take short cuts, they don't do proper assessments, they are not doing what's in the best interest of the patient. I brought a schizophrenic loved one here and the MD didn't even have him evaluated by a psych team. They forced me to leave and now I can't get any information so he could be wandering the streets right now or dead in a ditch. They can't ask patients if they want to give consent for a loved one to know their medical information? Since when is a hospital not allowed to ask that? The patient is incapacitated but you aren't willing to help him? None of these things were an issue last time we went to Hoag to address the same illness. I'm shocked at the difference between the hospitals but this one is a complete waste of time for your loved one to go to. read more

There has to be a better way to schedule appointments with radiology. Waited two days for a call back to arrange a CT. They called this morning and first question was when was your blood work completed, I said about 3 weeks ago, great was her response,I can schedule your appointment.About 4 hours later I get a message on my house phone stating they are canceling my appointment because I need current blood work completed. I was not home to receive this call. She stated I needed blood work done within 90 days, hmmm last time I checked there isn't 90 days from 09/23/21-10/18/21. Called once I received the message and left phone number Tried calling back about a hour after my first call since receiving the cancellation and was placed on hold over a hour and a half, then went to voice mail, leave a message. There has to be another number patients can call back on to give you the answers you asked for. What a waste of time ,labor hours and patient time. In between those two phone calls the computer phoned me to confirm my appointment. So hopefully I have an appointment, we will find out Wednesday. Remember you are not the only ones who do scans , so maybe you should think about reworking your scheduling practice and add a number patients can quickly call you back on. read more

My care was excellent except the Intake nurse wrote in my records the wrong side so everyone kept wanting to X-ray or see or touch my right knee / leg but it was the left . The nurse that took my vitals was not warm at all , could care less about me . Needless to say the rest of the staff were great . I hope I don't get slammed with a huge bill as they knew what insurance I had when I come in . Now that I'm reading the reviews I'm scared and hope they don't do what they did to others to me . I came here for a mammogram during Covid crisis. My experience was good. Everything was harder because of all of the restrictions and precautions due to Covid, so there was that aspect of it. Nothing is an easy task anymore...things that used to be routine now involve wearing a mask, having temperatures taken, and multiple bracelets and badges just to enter the hospital to get a screening done. The Mammogram technologist I saw was very good at her job and seemed to show respect to patients while doing her job. It was not busy when I went, maybe because of Covid, and one thing I noticed was a lack of close parking even for disabled persons. I have no idea of where the parking is...I just found a spot on the side of the hospital but I am sure there is a parking structure somewhere.. but I did not see an entrance. I would probably return to this location again..based on the care I received while having my mammogram done. read more

Laguna mission psychiatric unit ..it was chaotic, traumatic the staff was rude... just plain out mean! The main psychiatric doctor was a heartless man or had black heart if he even has one... I was suicidal & I went in on a Friday, they did make an adjustments to my medications ..I was on instant release Adderall and they switched it to extended release Adderall and I felt like I was doing better and I could concentrate better and I was calmer but I was still suicidal and when the doctor wanted to meet with me on Monday he wouldn't even let me finish he didn't even ask me how I was feeling and he used the words "you're being kicked out ".. he accuse me of wanting to stay there for a roof over my head , food , & a bed and I come from a Family with money it was just a horrible situation ..I had just arrived to California with no one to pick me up from the airport and I was desperate for help... Furthermore I started crying and I asked for a grievance form to fill out and the charge nurse named Jennifer, Who after I explained to her that I was still suicidal instructed the staff and the patients to no longer interact with me or even make eye contact with me and I was immediately asked to pack my bags and I was threatened to have security escort me in handcuffs out of the facility all for being scared that I was still suicidal and they were kicking me out... It left me with more trauma, pain, suicidal thoughts and hopelessness.. I said if I'm not welcomed here .. I'll just go down to the waiting room & I would leave the unit & I would just wait down in the emergency room for my ride and she explained to me I cannot be on the premises which meant I couldn't even be in the parking lot and she was going to have security escort me to a bus and get me on a bus just so I could leave the premises and I had nowhere to go! One of the worst parts was I filed a complaint immediately before leaving with one of the supervisors of the hospital and she called Jennifer down to talk it out and Jennifer acted like she had no idea what was going on and denied that she had done any of those things so she flat out lied and the doctor at least noticed that the instant release Adderall was not Benefiting me and he doesn't believe in prescribing it because he thinks it's dangerous and when I got to the pharmacy to fill my medications he had wrote a prescription for the instant release which is one of the reasons I was put in there and he didn't even acknowledge that I was somewhat "doing better" because of the change he made my medication... I tried many times to follow up and get anyone I could to listen to me on the phone and I just kept getting hung up on , they treated me less than human... I beg anyone who needs help to not go to this hospital.. there was a sweet girl there who is detoxing from alcohol and I saw her and I literally thought she was going to die right in front of my eyes and the staff was totally unaware .. although they were aware that a man was masturbating in the cafeteria and a lot of the women in there had some sexual trauma in their past or currently and that's why they were in there and the staff thought it was funny and the staff would make a morbidly obese woman take a shower at five in the morning where I could hear her every morning kicking and screaming and they would leave the door wide open to humiliate her as they all shoved her head under the water and to what it looked like physically abused her in the shower and then one of the technicians who works there (an actual staff member) told me he "literally could not get the disgusting sight of that fat woman's body out of his mind" in fact it was impossible to ever find your nurse there was no nursing station and they would just disappear and one of my nurses Sarah I believe her name is Sarah (I had a lot of rude nurses) shut the door in my face and locked it because she didn't wanna listen to me asking for my medication that was due in the first place! another patient slit his wrists with a pen that they handed out to us and I heard him say he was waiting to see the doctor and I know for a fact he never saw the doctor and I saw two of the staff guiding him with security and he was handcuffed and once they got them out the door ..they gave each other a high five then laughed!! and that was the staff who worked in the hospital not giving a shit whether or not that He was going to be OK and they said they thought it was "manipulative that he would slit his wrists because that's just for attention and ensuring that he could stay there longer" read more

This review is in regards to the ER. The care was great, however, be very careful. Even though this hospital is in network the ER doctors are part of Mission Viejo Emergency Medical Assc Inc and they may not be. NO ONE, including the doctor, addresses this. When you are there for an emergency you will most likely think, like I did, you are covered. YOU WILL RECEIVE BALANCE BILLING FOR THE DOCTOR SERVICES! HMO will not. I am a PPO and I was balanced billed for over 1,200.00 for 15 minutes of Dr. Mahmoud Guisou's time. They will not negotiate. read more

Misinformation and sloppy care - Behavioral Health inpatient. A dear friend and roommate ended up here for a voluntary 72-hour hold. At the end of the 72-hours, she started getting the run-around on when she could be released. First, they told her that if she left, her insurance would not cover her stay - this is a blatant lie. Next, they told her they needed to do bloodwork but kept putting it off. I have worked in psych services for 10 years - I run a clinical facility. I understand when on lithium you need to take blood 5 days after start and after any dosage change. However, this is something that can be done as outpatient. She was told by her psychiatrist that if she left, they would not give her any medication and would not give her a prescription for any medication. Psychiatrist told her to stop asking questions. This is complete bullying of the patient and not acceptable. One day they completely forgot to give her medication - and when she complained they said yeah it happens a lot. The stress created by the extremely poor care of the behavioral healthcare staff has started to exacerbate her anxiety rather than help it. When I tried to advocate for her I was given more run-around and actually hung up on by the behavioral healthcare staff. Still waiting for a call back from the nurse supervisor. We will be picking her up today regardless and filing an official complaint that her patient rights were violated. If you have to use behavioral healthcare in this hospital - just be aware and be prepared to have to stand up for your rights as a patient. read more

Was seen in the ER late in the evening and the care could not have been better. I have never posted a review before but felt the staff at Mission Laguna's ER deserved a shout out. From check-in to discharge, the triage nurse, Darla, my nurse, Michelle B., and Dr. Rey provided comprehensive, gold-standard care and treated my condition aggressively. As an RN myself, I am well aware of how good and bad medical care can be these days. However, I am over-the-top pleased with the personal attention I received last night. The staff in the ER are professional, caring, friendly and efficient. Rudy in triage was my hero, quickly assessing my injuries and eliminating a potentially long wait time. Last night I brought my three year old in with a horrible cough and difficulty breathing. I was mentally prepared for a long night and knew I wouldn't see anyone for a couple of hours due to past experiences at other hospitals (same situation). Upon arrival I was greeted by a nurse and was immediately taken back. She took my daughter's vitals and within ten minutes I was speaking to a lovely Doctor (Dr. Mammone). He was very sweet and gentle with my daughter, who is very shy. He made sure she was receiving treatment as soon as he examined her and wanted to keep her for a few hours to continue the treatments and monitor her response. The nurses and staff were on it! I can't stress enough how impressed and shocked I was. Dr. Mammone and the nurses came and checked up on both of us multiple times and were very gracious when I asked questions. One of the staff members even offered me coffee, tea, etc and brought my daughter a story book and a coloring-in book w/ crayons. After a few treatments and close monitoring, Dr. Mammone felt it was safe to take her home. He gave me some helpful information regarding her condition and the nurses also explained in full detail, her treatment plan for the next few days. All the staff encouraged me to take her back and/or call if there were any issues or if I had any questions. No one asked me to write a review. In fact, I'm not big on reviews at all, but I felt compelled to write this. You can't please everyone and we all know the ER can get crazy. Maybe I came at the right time or maybe I was lucky, but I am very grateful to the staff at Mission (Laguna Beach). :-) *This morning I also received a follow up phone call from the hospital checking up on my daughter, which I really appreciate. read more

I never knew a hospital like this existed. I went in this past Sunday after an accident. Marc in the ER put up with me really well. Thank you Marc, you rock!! I spent 4 days there and the compassion I received was beyond amazing!! The staff was so attentive and cared for every detail of my needs. They made me feel as if I was the only patient there with the level of care I received. I've already recommended this hospital to others. My mother (a senior/handicap) and I came here in the evening cause she had a really serve ear infection/terrible pain in her head. She signed in and waited and then was briefly seen to access what she was there for. After that, we waited an hour and nothing happened. She found out that it could be a 6 hour wait for the emergency room and while there was no one else in the waiting room, the lady at the front desk said there's people coming in from the ambulance. Sadly to say the customer service sucked big time, they could've at least told her that estimated wait time. We left and will be sure to avoid this location in the future. read more

My stay here had been so great considering I had a nasty infection on my face when I came in. From the ER personal to my night nurse (Tyler on floor 3) I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to care for me. Tyler treated me more as a friend and explained everything that was going on and that was upcoming to me in detail. If I am ever in need of care again I truly will be coming back to this hospital.
