My wife was suffering with palpitations,chest tightness, dilation of arteries and heart spasms. She has a very strong family history of cardiac death. After an EKG performed in the triage room we waited over an hour to get into an examination room with no monitoring. Thirty minutes later a nurse entered the room and was surprised to see it in use. She said she'd be right back and never returned. There was no concern, empathy and more importantly no mask protocol. Both nurses and staff had their masks under their noses and when asked to correct were unpleasant. My wife is immune compromised and we advised the staff of that. I spoke to a on call Doctor From Nuclear radiology at main Mission campus he recommended that I go back to the er to have another ct scan of the legs and pelvis with contrast since one has not been done at mission. I got checked in then waited two hours. The Er Dr. Chew had me come back to the consult room to ask me what was going on. I proceeded to tell him. Which he told me that I had the correct testing done and that if I have further more testing done it will just cause cancer in the future. Which It was very obvious that my left leg was very swollen. Dr. Chew, made me fell like I was being a hypochondriac. Which I told him and he responded with " well you have had all the right test and the test are negative". I told Dr. Chew that I was having alot of pain in my very swollen left leg. Which Dr. Chew said. " well are you chasing the pain or a blood clot?" At that point Dr.Chew made me feel like there is nothing truly wrong with me and that I was just seeking attention for something that didnt exsist. Granted I had been in Hoag Er. He spoke with the on call radiologist that did say there were further test that could be done. Which I told him I have already given up on looking for anything because he as the dr told me I'm just searching for something thats not there when I have already had testing that was negative. Which the surgeon was wanted me to have images on file sing he could not see images which he thinks my filters in my leg could be backed up. The images were never taken. This hospital has so much wrong with it, I'm not sure I have the space for everything. My father went in for a total knee replacement today. 1. He was asked to sign a consent for treatment without being shown the consent. I asked to see the document he was signing. We were told that we could only get the document AFTER we signed it. What? In what world is a person allowed to see a contract only AFTER he signs it. It was a basic consent, though, so I ignored the illegality of it. 2. Ensuring adequate and timely urine output is a basic part of postop care. Seven hours after the case - my dad has still not urinated. This might be because he doesn't need to, or it might be because he can't. However, he has received 2 liters of IV fluid and has a history of urinary retention, so I am concerned. I told day shift nurse Marie, night shift nurse Darlene, nurse assistant Cesar (who walked out of the room while I was still talking), and finally charge nurse Lyn of my concern. I told all of them his history. I told them that I palpated his lower abdomen and it looked and felt distended. Three hours later, still nothing. I called the on call Orthopod Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick to ask for his help. He was rude, condescending, and did not listen to me, instead choosing to lecture me on why catheterizations are not good. I explained that I did not want my dad unnecessarily catheterized, but if he couldn't urinate and no one was going to assist him to the restroom, then a bladder scan would be a reasonable thing to do. He should know that a severely distended bladder can worsen urinary retention and cause other problems. He should know that no urine output after surgery could be because of significant ongoing blood loss. But in asking for his help, I essentially got into a shouting match where I had to repeat several times that I was NOT asking for my dad to be catheterized, but to actually be cared for and evaluated as he should be. He reluctantly agreed to speak with the nursing staff at the hospital. I am not sure that he actually did. As it turns out, my father in fact had over one liter of urine in his bladder which likely caused temporary swelling of his kidneys and will delay return of normal bladder function. I hope Dr. Fitzpatrick one day gets to experience this. Fair warning to all - go to a larger, better hospital. These nurses seem kind, but actually do not know what they are doing, and what's more, do not seem to care. House supervisor "Chris" had no knowledge of basic Med Surg post op protocols. Avoid Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick - a man who has no manners and has forgotten basic medicine. He will take the side of the hospital and not advocate for you. read more

This hospital is the very worst of it's kind! On Feb 14th, 2020 I took my husband to the ER of this hospital for a dog bite on his lip that was bleeding. The way we were treated was totally outrageous and unprofessional! The staff were very rude and uncaring. They all were partying and eating at the desk while my husband was bleeding with no care for him! There were no other patients when we arrived. Yet we got no attention. After a long time like an hour or more a nurse came and did something but again left us for a long time. Finally the Dr came and did the stitching but in the middle of it he was rushed because another patient came in with overdose and was dying so he rushed and finished the job badly! To this day he has extra flesh hanging due to bad job he did. Yet he had the nerve to send us a $2200 bill only for his work and about $4500 for the ER hospital bill! A total of $6700! Please Do yourself a favor Never Ever take your loved ones to this terrible hospital! Update: Yesterday July 18 the Director of ER Dr Mahmoud contacted us to discuss our dissatisfaction with their services in an effort to prevent it from happening again. I had the worse experience with the hospital " Mission Hospital - Laguna Beach "'and doctor Michael J Mammone. I didn't receive proper help. And for that I got two bills $628 (1 - $165 for emergency room, 2 -$463 bill directly from the doctor to me on behalf of the hospital ) . 08/14/2019 I had an accident and fell down on the ground and injured my head . After the situation My friend and me rushed to the hospital "Mission Hospital - Laguna Beach" to the emergency room "Mission Viejo emergency Medical Assc" around 2:00 am . The emergency was empty, but we had to wait 30 min until we finally got admitted . And It took 4 nurses to wash my head by peroxide . Why did it take 4 nurses to wash my head, which wasn't so critical? I don't understand . They told us to wait for the doctor and nothing else . We had been waiting for a doctor for one hour . Once doctor Michael J Mammone show up, he asked me: "Does it hurt? Are you feeling dizzy ? Did you pass out?" I answered, that I don't feel dizzy, and I don't feel headache , and I didn't pass out. After the doctor glanced at my wound and said , that I need X-Ray. He didn't let me know how severe my injury was and what to expect. He spend just 3 min to ask questions and just left the room. Then me and my friend had been waiting for the 30 min with empty ER, and no one was able to say to us how much longer we have to wait for X-Ray. We didn't get any updates from nurses stuff and doctor Michael J Mammone more than hour and we decided to see someone more professional. We left the ER and decided to treat my wound with iodine. Then few hours later we went to another ER "Tri-city Medical Center", where I received professional help in a very short period of time. The doctor was able to tell right away , that only thing I needed is few stitches and no X-Ray required. Sometime after I received two bills from "Mission Hospital - Laguna Beach" for $165.55 and $463 for 3 min of time with no treatment provided. I paid the ER bill for $165.55, but tried to wave $463 for the doctor Michael J Mammone's work. I went in to have a total hip replacement on February 28th. I was told to go to the ER to sign in. When I went in there there was a homeless man snoring with dirty feet and holes in his socks. I was a little confused as other wise it was quiet. We were there about 46 min when the admin lady signaled to the security guard to get rid of him. When he tried the homeless man got argumentative and started yelling so my husband moved me to the other side of the room in case it got physical. Mind you before a surgery they make you use disinfectant soap for three days before. Anyway it took four guys total came out and couldn't get him out. Till finally none of them just took his belongings and put them outside. Homeless guy wanted to use the bathroom and they let him. That freaked me out because he could have had any number of bacteria or diseases on him. And as I said, I was going in for a surgery after he left I asked the security guard why he let them use the bathroom and he just couldn't give me an answer. That kind of scared me because I didn't know if he used to four because I had to use the bathroom when I first got there and had no idea they let a homeless guy in there to use one also when I went into the OR when the nurses went on lunch lady that replaced her wouldn't keep her mask on it was a fiasco. After that they drugged me My surgeon came and gave me a hip replacement and everything turned out OK but it wasn't a pleasant experience. Are they understaffed? Broken CT-SCAN, broken flat tire bed, no food, no water, no IV all day long. No discharge form was provided earlier, lists goes on. They don't seem care give immediate attention. I've been coming to this hospital rather than mission in mission Viejo cause it was always too crowded. Every single time I've been to this hospital I've had great experiences. This time it was Rudy the triage nurse. He went out of his way to make sure I had a procedure done which shows his compassion he has for his patients. He was very attentive and easy to talk with. He basically took care of me checking in on me for the entire five hours I was there and even grabbed a sandwich for me cause I was starving. Mother fell down while dancing at her 'memory care' facility, was admitted to Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach with broken femur. Im the only surviving child with POA for making all her decisions... 94 yrs old with dementia and the Nurse practitioner Joan on duty at ER was very arrogant, condescending, abrupt, and didn't respect a word I had to say.. self diagnosed my mother's fracture as needing a hip replacement...WRONG. I explained my have two trauma orthopedic surgeons in my family, I want to consult with them first and we'll go from there. She totally disregarded my wishes and by 6am my mother was given surgery to repair 'fix' the femur/hip WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I had the POA! not Mission Hospital! WRONG AGAIN. bottom line they had my 94 yr old mother, deep in dementia, at 6am the next morning high on pain medication, doesn't retain a word or know what she reads. SIGN HER OWN SURGERY CONSENT PAPERS! Really??? Very illegal. The only good news, surgery successful and her Dr. Guerrero did an awesome job! However they did not wait for me to talk with my bother in law, a trauma surgeon himself in Chicago to give a go ahead to fix her fracture! inwhich he gave me the go ahead and by thre time I got the hospital at 9am to give consent, she was already in recovery. WHAT? many answers are needed! going forward, I would not send my dog to Mission Hospital! came off as a big money grab to me and my mother is not recovering at all, now is skilled nursing thank God and praying she survives this at her age! About 3 weeks ago I did not have a good experience at both the ER and hospital. This included problems with their lab equipment used for blood analysis, software issues with their pill delivery system (Pixis), and most critically an egregious miss-diagnosis of my condition leading one of the ER doctors to suggest I be discharged from the ER after a nebulizer and a Z-antibiotic when a subsequent cat scan (insisted upon by my personal physician, who went ballistic upon hearing the ER physician's intention to discharge) revealed I had pneumonia! It took another day to determine it was viral, and not bacterial pneumonia, although they started treating me with strong antibiotics which they quickly ended upon the late lab results indicating a viral cause. Employees are noticeably not motivated and not patient focused, although there were exceptions such as Dr. Yim, and a couple of RNs and Nurse Assistants who were outstanding. But this was not proper healthcare-quite the contrary. I postulate the reason was partially explained by the many changes in ownership and management of this particular hospital in the last 5 years years. But there is a silver lining. Within 5 days of my submitting some thoughtful yet very critical comments (through an email submitted request for a review of my experience), I received a call from two of their top managers (one from ER and the other from hospital) to follow-up. I was informed that my on-line review was examined closely by even top management, and the two were directed by top management to discuss my review and comments. Furthermore, they indicted each one of my issues would be followed up and I would receive subsequent calls on these matters. As a retired member of top management of other service related companies, I found this top management responsiveness to be noteworthy and I will report back when I am contacted again after my concerns are reviewed. Excellent institutions are always are customer driven; mediocre and poor ones are not, and will flounder and possibly fail. I am hopeful, and somewhat confident, the management of Providence/St. Joseph's are aware of some inadequacies at their Laguna Beach hospital, and will address them in the coming weeks. Clearly, when any institution undergoes a change of management/ownership so frequently process, quality control, system integration and employee motivation will unfortunately suffer. If I did not receive this phone call in which my concerns were listened to quite professionally, my rating would have been 0-1 star. Because of this event and my perceived commitment for them to improve the delivery of healthcare, I elevated it to 3; I have every confidence given their excellent other healthcare facilities , this hospital will improve over the next few months and you will receive the care consistent with St. Joseph's standards. read more

I went here for mental health help after my sister and mother died the same day and then a few weeks later my best friend died...I just needed someone to talk to and they supposedly had an outpatient program with groups...I was hopeful until I got there. I don't want to be rude about the appearance of the people it felt very much like a clinic, not somewhere you go when you have insurance. I did the intake and explained that I was in enormous physical pain because I need ankle replacement and the last year all I did was take care of my mother and I had to put off my surgery after my sister got brain surgery...on and on I explained all the very real problems I had, why I was there. But the woman doing my intake, Mandy, she fixated on the fact that on my form I indicated I used Marijuana. She reacted as if she did not know that was legal and asked why do I take gummies and she got really off track on why I was there. I had been suffering for a long time and now everyone was dead and I'm sad and Mandy won't stop talking about gummies. So Mandy says to me that in order for me to get any help with my very real mental health issues, she would need me to admit that I was a drug addict and I would have to agree to a 12 step program. We brought our son here because he had a bad cough and was having trouble breathing. We were there for about two hours and they gave him a breathing treatment and steroid. They designated it as a level 4 visit and we were billed over $4k for the facility and doctor. This is far in excess of the "transparent" pricing on their website. When I called to dispute they said that pricing didn't apply because the patient was a child and thus the facility was "specialized" for children. I am appalled by the deceptive price gauging and will never go to Mission hospitals again. We will make the drive to Hoag instead. read more

Yes, I would like to leave a very nice review for Mission Hospital Laguna Beach. I had to go to the emergency today for a non-life-threatening issue with a reaction to a drug anyway they were so nice and I mean it just they were so informative and and it was very clean and there wasn't any waiting and you know Dr. Chow was very professional and knowledgeable and Andrea who was his the guy who takes the blood and everything he he was really off the charts great he said Dr. Cho is one of their best, andand and Darlene and Tori at the front desk. We're just great I just know I mean if you have to go to the emergency this was actually a good experience you know so there you know know that you've got a really nice facility in the neighborhood and and we should all be very grateful for it. There's some talk about it being closed but I hope that never happens all right everybody God bless take care. It is 2:47am the day after my total knee replacement - that is how important this review of Mission Hospital Laguna Beach is to me, the patient. From the moment I entered the lobby to present I have been met with the most wonderfully polite and professional caregivers I have EVER experienced. Margaret my nurse in Post-Op explained each procedure and medication before the treatment or medication was administered. AND she held my hand during the procedure. With a soft smile and encouraging words along with Dr. Gonick's (Anestheologist) expertise a rather scary procedure was experienced with little apprehension on my part. Nancy also my pre-op nurse, who is pretty enough to be a model, thankfully she chose a more worthwhile profession, helped me through pre-op assessment, smiling and lightening the experience by adding personal stories to what would have been a tedious and boring check-in experience. Off to surgery with operatory nurse Shannon, cute face - but those beautiful and comforting eyes peering over her mask was what stuck me along with a soft southern draw to her voice eased me through the spinal block - again Dr. Gonick's expertise was stellar. Woke up in Recovery with Jeanne and NO PAIN. Now that's what you people out there want to read - Total Knee Replacement and waking up to sweet Jeanne and her smile coaxing you awake with NO PAIN. Dr. Samuel Park, Orthopaedic Surgeon - said I would hate him, then as I progressed through the healing process, would like him and 6 months out would want to hug him. Sorry Doc, but you were wrong - skipping one and two - and going directly to three - I want to hug you now - NO PAIN! Now in my room, overlooking the ocean with its breezes fanning the trees of our coast, I am greeted by Lindsay my daycare nurse, who met me with a smile and ice cold apple juice. I'm left wondering which was the sweetest, the smile or the juice - hard call! Robin greeting me with a smile (frowning mustn't be anything these people even know how to do!) constantly monitoring my progress, which you would have expected would have gotten to the point of annoying, but no. I looked forward to her arrival and gracious treatment. Night time arrives and so does Freddie my nighttime nurse and we're up with encouraging words and a strong hand to guide me through 2 laps around the post-op floor. He came back later and he and Sara my medical technician escorted me around the floor 3 times - you folks out there reading this review are remembering that I had a TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT less than 8 hours prior and I'm skimming along with 3 tours of the third floor with NO PAIN! Sara smiled kiddingly said "OK you weird-o, now try to get some sleep!" so cute! To all of you at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach - a heartfelt thank you! I was visiting my family from California in February & ended up having a severe panic attack which lead to an ambulance ride to this pathetic excuse for an ER. Never in my life have I been treated more poorly (and as for someone who sees a lot of ER's/hospitals/doctors for her 16+ chronic illnesses that speaks volumes). I barely saw nurses or doctors. Got no real help other than hydration. I asked for my husband MANY times and they denied me my husband for a good while. To top it off they told him not to talk to me or touch me as I needed to "figure it out myself".... like excuse me?! Oh and lets not forget them treating my poor husband as if he was my pimp. My son was in the detox facility and probably received the worst care possible. The main nurse Tracy was really a cruel woman. I spoke with her and cannot believe the way she treated me on top of how she treated my son. Tonight I went to the ER in Laguna beach instead of Mission Hospital in mission viejo because the wait was hours long there. I was seen in Laguna within 15 minutes and everyone was very professional. I got pain medicine quickly and the doctors and nurses were very attentive to my needs. I was taken care of and out of the ER within a few hours. The hospital here was very clean and quiet, and the staff was excellent. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are local and don't want to wait hours at the other mission hospital in mission viejo. Me and my family will be coming here from now on. Best kept secret in south Orange County. Excellent care at this hospital's emergency room department. The staff was warm and welcoming and the physician there at the time, Dr. Rey, was smart and compassionate. I went for a mammogram today and the service from start to finish was excellent! I checked in at the front lobby for a name badge and wristband and had my temperature checked. That made me feel more at ease because I knew that not just anyone could walk in the hospital. I checked again in Radiology and received another wristband with my name and DOB on it. I felt completely safe the whole time. There were hand sanitizing stations set up throughout the hospital and clean pens for us to use for signing docs. The radiologist, her name was Laura or Linda (sorry I don't remember exactly!) was gentle and so kind and considerate! Having a mammogram is a necessity for most of us ladies and I have to get one once a year due to prior conditions. She made a normally tortuous experience very tolerable. She even offered a bottle of water after I was done! I would highly recommend any women needing a mammogram to visit Linda/Laura at Providence-Mission in Laguna Beach!
