Today, my daughter was able to get her certificate of completion for speech and language. I would like to thank Kym Ashara for her tremendous amount of help. Kym demonstrates invaluable amount of effort and true kindness along with patience, when working with all the other kids, including mine. There was not one day, nor one minute where she took any shortcuts just to get these classes done, she truly cares, no doubt. My wife and I, as parents, appreciate this Help and everyone in my family notices my daughter speaking a lot more clearly and detailed. The staff was always kind and always gave me direction. This place is a waste of time and money. My 4 year old waited over 3 months for an assessment. I initially inquired on what I would be charged and how much my insurance would cost... they told me I'd have to wait until a couple weeks before her appt to get that information. I called to find out and they made me wait until 2 days before and told me it'd be $90 co-pay since I didn't meet my deductible for the year with my insurance. Ok no problem... but then I've since been billed $325 that my insurance hasn't covered. I should have been made aware of the full cost of the appt BEFORE her appt. The person who did her appt continuously used jargon and abbreviated terms when discussing my daughter's assessment. I found that to be highly unprofessional. At the end of it she let me know that this facility is really a short term solution only for 6 months and that she would need to go to her school district to get a separate assessment through the school system. Such an incredible waste of time waiting months to find out just send her to school where it would all be free. read more

I was so traumatized coming here. My sons pediatrician recommended it so I ignored the bad reviews and took my son. They sat him down and barked orders at him and when he stared into space or didn't want to participate they started discussing diagnosing him with autism and various disabilities. I don't disagree that he has a form of autism but this place did nothing to help the situation. My 2 year old hated this place and now we attend speech therapy elsewhere and he loves it and is improving at a rapid pace. read more

They lost their pediatric audiologist almost 6 months ago and rather then just assign her old patients to the new audiologist they waited 2 weeks before our appointment to tell us that our appointment is canceled and now they are fully booked for the next 3 months so we can't even reschedule. Horrible customer service. They obviously don't care about their patients. We are going somewhere else. read more

PROS: We enjoyed our last 5 months working with Zuye. My 3 year-old daughter is really shy and took a long time to warm up, but she has adapted well over these past few months and what used to be 20+ minutes of silence has become full blown conversations. I can say that there is a big difference doing it privately than through public school. My daughter went to therapy at her local public school for 9 months and barely spoke but with Zuye she opened up quickly. I think that speaks volumes (literally and figuratively!) One thing that really helped us see a change was switching over our appointments from mornings to afternoons. The energy level and transitioning were easier so I wish we had done it sooner. Also, the staff is always kind and welcoming. The restroom is clean and the facility looks well maintained. I get weekly reminder texts for her appointments which I appreciate. CONS: I HATE calling them because I have to go through this crazy maze of listening to an automated recording and always have to click all these numbers just to leave a message. I called last week to say that we couldn't make it because my daughter was sick and could only leave a voicemail message. I worried the whole week that no one received the message and I might get charged extra. Also, the rooms they do one-on-one therapy in are on the smaller end, so if you have a baby, there's not much room to put the car seat in, or any extra room to walk around to calm the baby down or distract them when their big sibling is in therapy. I would nurse on purpose just so the baby could be appeased. It was nice when therapy was in the gym because I could wander with the baby in my arms. Also, the co-pays add up quickly financially but that's to be expected. read more

I was so discouraged and traumatized after getting a speech evaluation for my son here. He is 2. 8 years old and was only saying around 50 words when we went in for the evaluation his OT started off by having buckets of toys open to see for him ( distracting enough ) and gave him a only a few toys and was trying to get him to share and follow direction when he wanted a toy she said it was " her toy" and he needed to share he does not know her and she was not friendly AT ALL she never once smiled or made us feel comfortable or had a warm environment after that he cried the entire time and wanted nothing to do with her she then put in his evaluation that he had behavioral issues and did not get him to say ONE word. I left this appointment crying in my car definitely do not recommend coming here. read more

So I never write reviews but I had to write one regarding my daughter's speech evaluation. We met with the therapist who spent most of the time talking with my husband and I. The last 10 to 15 minutes if that she tried to engage with our daughter. At the end the therapist told us she was borderline not needing immediate therapy at that moment that she seemed she would start picking up based on her age at the time of evaluation. In the course of a few months my daughter has improved in the amount of words she now can pronounce and distinguish. Here is the worse part in that few time we received a bill for $168.00 stating that she diagnosed my daughter with expressive language disorder after spending 10 minutes. Which my very expensive PPO could not cover because for a speech evaluation the therapist diagnosis does not fall in that category. Spoke will the billing department and Denise w/ providence attempt to speak with therapist to change diagnose so that evaluation can be cover and bottom line therapist would not change it so that she can bill for more. I think it's outrageous that even when you work hard and try your best to provide the best opportunity for your children that there are still people out there to take advantage. I should have taken her advise and went to see county regional instead versus this place. Definitely would have had better service!! Being in the healthcare myself I will definitely spread the word NOT to go to this place!! read more

I made an appointment to get my almost 3 year olds hearing checked and was told over the phone that the adult present needed to wear a mask. That's fine, no issue. My son is very cognitively delayed. Doesn't even follow simple directions yet. We go in and they ask him to wear a mask. He can't handle something touching his face (we struggle to even keep him in clothes!) We are two years into the pandemic, we have tried to get him to wear a mask and he rips it off immediately. We just won't go somewhere that can't accommodate delayed children. That's okay. I didn't think this would be an issue with a place that routinely works with autistic and delayed children. I was very shocked that they didn't make any type of exception. They did offer to schedule at a later time after we took our son home and "practiced wearing a mask" as if we haven't already done that. I told them we were only here for the hearing test and not even receiving other services at their facility and I tried to explain to them why he is unable to wear one. It didn't matter. In the end, a facility has the right to do whatever they feel is best for them. I didn't argue or try to fight it. I just told them that's fine we will cancel after they said he must wear a mask or shield. They were nice about it. This review is mostly for prospective parents with delayed children, if your child struggles with wearing a mask, this is not the place for you. Also, if on the phone the facility would have been transparent about the kids needing to wear a mask too, I would have not even have made the appointment. My son receives other services and they are much more understanding to his sensitivities. I'm glad to know this now though because when he finally get his official autism diagnosis, I already know this isn't the place for us. read more

Seriously amazing procedures!!!! I came for an appointment today and the care all the faculty is putting in made me feel so comfortable. All patients are asked questions about recent exposure at the entrance before they get to the receptionist which I think makes such a difference with distancing. There were also two bathrooms available for all patients to wash their hands before going into the socially distanced waiting room. My 22 month old had her fist group speech therapy today and I am extremely satisfied with this facility. The staff is friendly and helpful (in person) because when I called to confirm my appt the voice on the other end was not rude, but not friendly, either. It is clean and well structured. I don't know if it was the "distraction" of other children but my daughter did really well for her first day. She was really engaged while there and came home trying to say new words almost like following the routine with the therapist. They do a lot of interactive play that focuses on speech and verbalizing object names and sounds. Watching the staff today gave me a better understanding of what I could do at home to help my daughter. I think this is a great place for her and I think she is going to benefit greatly. I was also given a packet with daily homework of things to do with her to ensure a steady posituve progress. I thought that was great because I want to be involved in my daughter's progress. I don't know the first thing about speech therapy so having this homework packet guide me through what I can work on with her at home is very helpful. After all, knowledge is power. this review is for melinda chan, audiologist. interested in speech therapy services for my son, i got a referral to providence, and part of their intake process was a hearing exam. we expected this to be a matter of rote, just a formality, and so went in anticipating we'd be sent home in half an hour with a rubber stamp of an okay hearing test (especially after all hearing tests from childhood to the present - he's currently 22 - came back normal). the exam took more than an hour, and as i waited, i wondered what was taking so long, but figured perhaps the front desk had underestimated the time needed. turns out the reason the exam took so long is because dr. chan performed it twice, due to being surprised by perfect hearing in the right ear while the left showed a 70% loss. we were stunned, but as i'd suspected from age 3 that hearing wasn't normal (despite all those previously normal tests), i mostly felt vindicated, and we all agreed that the reason he hadn't noticed the hearing loss was probably because it had been very longterm and his right ear was already compensating. she said scary things like 'hearing aid' (very scary for a 22 year old man, who viewed hearing aids as things for old people) and 'tumor' (which we didn't think much of, because after all, how could someone have a tumor for so long without anyone ever noticing?), and recommended we follow up with an ENT to rule out the possibility of said tumor. we cheerfully called his pcp, explained the situation, and received a referral. we cheerfully went to said ENT appointment. when the ENT didn't seem to think his hearing was that bad, nor that the situation was particularly serious, we pressed a bit because we figured 'we're already here, we should look at this tumor business.' as a result, the ENT ordered an MRI, clearly not expecting much to come of it. turns out my son has a very large acoustic neuroma (a brain tumor), and requires surgery to remove it. if dr. chan had not been so diligent, nor so insistent in her suggestion that we see an ENT, i can't even imagine how long it would've taken, nor how large the tumor would've ultimately grown, before it was eventually discovered. (we have not proceeded with speech therapy, due to the more pressing matter of the tumor and the fact that surgery will leave him deaf in the affected ear making therapy potentially useless - we'll find out after, i suppose - so i cannot evaluate those services.) read more

My daughter goes here for speech therapy and the staff is great and so helpful. I was so apprehensive at first to get into this speech therapy thing, but the staff here, especially Ryan and Kym, were so welcoming and did so great with my daughter. My daughter fell in love with them, and even though she would throw the occasional tantrum, her speech and language have done a 180 and she is on the right track to being at her age level for speech. The staff is trained well in working with different personalities of kids and knows how to make the best use of the time you have even when your child is not having a good day. Even the receptionist, I am so sorry I think her name is Erica, is great and always says hi to my daughter when we arrive. She is always smiling and very attentive. I did not care too much for the hearing test process for a toddler, but I am sure this is how it is done everywhere and that age group will always be hard to evaluate. read more

So, I should probably do two reviews: one for the speech services and one for the billing department. I have two sons, one who had speech therapy there (age 2.5) and one who had his ears checked (13 months old). The speech evaluation for my son 2.5 year old son was good, and the hearing test for my 1 year old was good. The lady worked with us and we took breaks so he didn't get too antsy. That was in Feb-Mar 2017 time period. My older son did 7-8 sessions of speech therapy then I left because I didn't feel like it was doing much. Maybe if I had done more sessions it would have been more effective, but I had to bring my 1 year old to the sessions and was unable to help my older one as much as the center wants parents to be involved. One of the OTs asked me if I had any other option to send my 1 year old (who was mainly in a carseat, but not every time), so that I could be more involved. I told her I was a stay at home mom and didn't have any other options. She seemed disappointed. I get that she wanted me involved, and I was still involved in the sessions, but had to hold my younger son at the same time. During the speech evaluation for my older son, it was supposed to be 45-60 minutes and in 15 minutes she had already diagnosed my son as needing help. I was glad we were approved so I could get him some help with speaking, but it felt rushed. Also I'm not sure if it was just the demeanor of the OT or if she was having a bad day, but she didn't smile once. It was a bit eerie. I'm super smiley and full of energy though, so maybe we're just different cultures/backgrounds. During the speech therapy sessions, you basically just play inside on different toys and they give you pointers on what to say to your kid. They also do crafts, read and sing. It's overall helpful and I could see how 3 times a week for several weeks could make an impact, but with the pressure of feeling weird about bringing my younger son to the sessions and the $30 co-pay each session, it didn't work out for us. Personally, I think I could have done some research and did it on my own at home, but it was nice to have a dedicated time twice a week to work on his speech for 45 minutes. Overall, I would give the center a 3, but the billing dept screwed their company over by being unavailable and they completely lacked follow through. When I gave my notice to the center that I would be withdrawing my (older) son from speech therapy, I asked what my balance was. She called their billing dept and we settled everything. That was in March. In July, I got a bill for $62. I wasn't sure what it was for but I figured $62 wasn't that much, so I'd rather just pay it. I called THREE times (once a week for three weeks) AND LEFT MESSAGES saying to please call me back so I can pay my bill. After 3 weeks, I decided maybe they had made a mistake and called their regular phone number to see if it was really my bill or if they had made a mistake since no one had called me back yet. I left another message and then I gave up. One month later, I got a "FINAL NOTICE." I called right away and told them I needed an itemized statement of services since I had called and left multiple messages and now, all of a sudden, they were giving me a final notice. They got SUPER defensive and said, "Well, you moved and changed your address so that's not our fault!" I was like, "Lady, I'm not saying I'm not going to pay, I would just like to know what I'm paying for." She COULDN'T EVEN TELL ME WHICH KID IT WAS FOR!!!! Finally she figured it out; it was for my younger son for his hearing test in Feb. 2017. By the way, I got the bill in July, then a final notice in mid-late Sept. I requested the itemized statement in October (I had already corrected my address in the system back in July). Not only did they never send me an itemized statement, when I got home from vacation today, I got a statement in the mail from M. Leonard & Assoc. stating that Providence had sent my bill to this collection agency!!!!!!!!! WTF?!?!?! I'm usually a very diplomatic person, but now I'm just angry!! I can't stand the billing dept or any person involved with this royal screw up. Luckily I have excellent credit, but now I have a ding on my credit for something I ORIGINALLY TRIED TO PAY!!! 3 TIMES! The truly ironic thing is my pediatrician recommended their services but told me that a lot of his patients have issues with their billing dept and ability to charge their insurance. So, I guess the joke's on me! I was warned by my pediatrician NOT TO GO HERE, but I went anyway because it was convenient for me. Stupid! If anyone from Providence would like to call me and explain why the H*** THEY SENT MY ACCOUNT TO A COLLECTION AGENCY, I would really appreciate it. By the way, Providence has either been silent or defensive since this issue began in July. Not exactly what you want in a SPEECH THERAPY company! This review is for their billing policies. I want to warn anyone here with a special needs child or a sensory sensitive child that is considering getting hearing tested here. This is my experience. First appointment we had here was for a hearing test. There were supposed to be 3 tests they performed to evaluate her hearing. My daughter has autism and a sensory processing disorder. She did not do ANY of the tests and just freaked out. All they could do was glance in her ear for 5 second. Literally THAT'S IT. So I go to check out and find out I am being charged for the failed test. EXCUSE ME? You got zero results and were unable to complete the tests and you want to charge me for it? So messed up. I ended up paying and they told me to try again in 6 months. I tried to make another appointment today, but told them I would NOT be paying for any more failed attempts. The woman at the front desk went to speak to a manager and came back telling me "sorry but that's how our billing works. We charge for any ATTEMPTS at tests." MIND BLOWN. This place has kids with many different disabilities come in and charge the parents for doing NOTHING and getting ZERO results. We will be finishing our last 3 months of speech and looking for another center. This is unethical and downright disgusting. ****The speech therapist Abe is a freaking rockstar so this review doesn't apply to him. read more

My little one loves coming to providence speech especially when it comes to groups , he gets to play with other kids and learn new things every time he comes . He's most excited when it comes to gym time and plays with the balls . The staff here are really friendly and understanding when u talk to them . My sister suffered from a stroke which left her with a significant speech impairment. We have been working with a couple of the adult speech therapists here, mostly with Christine, for over a year now. The therapists here have been so sweet and patient with working with my sister to improve her speech, writing, and comprehension. Thanks to them she continues to improve in all areas! They are constantly challenging her and applying new techniques/methods to help her improve. I was called and told that my refund would be sent within two weeks on November 2nd - oh my what a surprise - it is now 11/27 and still no refund. DO NOT in any case ever give any more than the minimum required - because if you return your hearing aids because you do not like them they simply delay, delay, delay giving you a refund - no matter how often you call. This must be a corporate practice to keep your money as long as possible and not providing a refund as required - be careful - perhaps another company would be better read more

Have spent several days calling and spending lots of time on hold as well as leaving voicemails and a call back number. Finally got through today to scheduling and was then put on hold for 20 minutes while he located the referral in the system. After locating the referral I am then told I cannot schedule the appointment because they need a prescription with the doctors signature and diagnosis. This despite the fact they have a diagnosis on file as they have seen my daughter several times before (last time in 2019) and have the authorized referral with all the pertinent information. This seems a little ridiculous - I have never had this happen before when I have an authorized referral in hand. I am told to "try back next week to see if we've heard from the doctor" which no doubt will take me another 2-3 days to get through. Very frustrating. read more

my daughter came here for hearing aids at 6 months old. now she's 1 years old & she still only has 1 hearing molds. they told me babies will need many molds since they change and grow quickly. I had to call them many times to ask for a new mold to be done. & it's been 3 months and still no mold. I can't believe this place. it's so hard to get my calls thru an actual person..is anyone even working here??? read more

Really disappointed with this facility. I brought my son for an evaluation for speech and was shocked at how the OT was ill prepared and did not seem well trained working with children during the eval. My son did not feel comfortable with her because she was not warm and did not smile(he just turned 3) and she did not seem like she knew what she was doing. At one point she even seemed frustrated! What angered me (and I should have taken it as a sign to just leave ) is that she said she couldn't get him to do what she wanted and she thinks he's fine and was about to send us home - but I knew he needed services - so I intervened and got him to say some things by just asking him. She then noticed he was unable to say certain sounds and said he qualified for services. WHAT? So I did her job for her in 5 seconds when she had 45 minutes with him? I was disappointed. She then suggested we do group OT because "he has a hard time one on one". Which was upsetting because he is newly 3, in a new environment , she took away the toys she gave him to play with, and never smiled at him. ONE More thing: they took our insurance and I paid the co pay of $30. I asked if I owed more and the receptionist told me that with an evaluation that's all I owed. Needless to say we have not used their services so did not go back to the facility and months later received a bill for over $200 from them. I called , left messages, got another bill, called them again to discuss no answer, and now they put the bill into collections which is affecting my credit. VERY disappointed with this facility and wish I read the other reviews. My son has not been able to speak clearly when he was in preschool, the teacher and I can't really understand him sometimes, then the teacher recommended he should go to speech therapy at the providence speech and hearing center. Luckily we met Christine to help my son .She is very nice and patient !we go there once a week,.My son is always excited to go to meet with Miss Christine.They are always play different games ,so it will be fun for him to learn.After a few months my son improved on pronouncing the correct sounds.I highly recommend this place for anyone who has a speech or hearing problem. read more

Would not recommend! The doctor Gladys Diaz-Garcia is inexperienced and if I would have went along with her "plan" she would have destroyed my sons hearing... she diagnosed my baby boy with Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder, which was correct, however because she was not experienced with this condition she wanted to get him fitted right away with hearing aids... I told her I didn't think he needed them since he responds to all sounds, even seems sensitive to sounds, she did not consider what I said and just pressed on saying he should try the hearing aids, I knew she was wrong because I know my baby and she didn't seem confident in anything she was doing anyways. So I humored her and finished the appointment, never to return... I continued at John Tracy Clinic, which I recommend fully! They confirmed his diagnosis but after more testing they found his hearing was at normal levels and they said they would NOT recommend a hearing aid! That it would damage his hearing! I'm so happy for my baby, but very disappointed in my experience at Providence... perhaps she is a great doctor when dealing with typical hearing loss, but she also has to have the dignity to say "I'm not familiar with this condition, here's my referral to go elsewhere " instead of just trying to keep a customer to bring providence money at MY SONS EXPENSIVE!! SHAME ON YOU PROVIDENCE for making an environment where your doctors can't be HONEST! Also the appointment process and receptionists need improvement.... read more

Evaluating quite a bit of speech therapists, this place is by far the worst place. My son has been thrown around with different therapists for 1 1/5 months and it seems that they have to keep building rapport and that wastes time. To top it off, all the therapists spend more time talking to me about how things should be done without showing me how to do it....AND these therapists waste more time reading and writing notes during their sessions. What part of these sessions was therapeutic or helpful? I was concerned about collaboration services with our in home ABA services with speech and Kym Asahara raised her voice saying that it was my job. She also asked me if I have to bring my infant son all the time during sessions so that I could be involved. If I have to do my "job" then I should ask you what is your job? read more

Scheduling department is very unprofessional and finding a therapist that at least gives the impression that they are actually concerned about the welfare of the child is hit or miss. One of the therapists gives the impression that she does't like kids. Responsibility is given to the therapist aides to run a significant portion of each visit but they appear to be unclear of what they are supposed to be doing. There is also a lack of professionalism in regards to documentation and follow-up.
