Long overdue review of Chatterbox. It's been about a year since we left Chatterbox, but I'm very thankful for the services that they provided to my son. When my son was 3 years old, I brought him to Chatterbox since he was no longer developing verbally. In fact, he had regressed badly in preschool, and was largely not verbal there during the day. We later had him diagnosed with autism (ASD), and were able to pursue other services, but at the time, all we had was Chatterbox. After the initial intake with Courtney, he was accepted as a patient, and we got on the schedule pretty quickly. I don't believe it is this available or open normally, so I guess we got lucky. We set goals and we were coming to Chatterbox for 30 minute sessions (really 25 minutes) twice a week. We worked on some basic things, but given the later ASD diagnosis, we did what we could here. The end result was that after almost a year, he was verbal again and we met some of our goals. I didn't mind continuing with Chatterbox, but by that point, my son's needs were greater in other areas, so most of his time afterschool was allocated to behavior therapy instead. All in all, we are very thankful for the services that Chatterbox provided. Eternally grateful for the services delivered by Marina, Denny, Amanda, and Jenn. Also thankful to Priscilla for being great to work with from a scheduling and administrative perspective. Anyone who comes here will know right away that the parking lot is comical. The entrance on Cherry actually features bi-directional traffic, even though it's only wide enough for a single vehicle. If I do manage to get in this way, I'll do a quick pass through the lot, and if no spots, I'll make a right in the alleyway and another right on Reagan St., then another right back onto Katella, where there is usually street parking in front of the dentist. read more

My son was a former client of Chatterbox Speech for 1.5 years receiving speech therapy 1x/week. We've had multiple therapists but the ones that he connected with were Emilia F. and Kirsten S. Highly recommend them! He saw Melissa M. once and she was amazing too. When Regional Center stopped paying for his speech therapy due to aging out, my husband and I paid out of pocket. I would pay via Venmo. When it got too expensive, I decided to stop services as he was already going to preschool and getting speech therapy there. I received a phone call from billing assistant Jennifer that I owed for three service dates, which was fine. So I paid via credit card. She claimed I didn't pay for some of the dates and that they never received payment from Venmo, but I was happy to provide proof. She asked me to text it to their phone number which was their main line. Okay, I texted all the screenshots. FOUR months has gone by and I receive a phone call from her that they never received the proof. She applied the credit card payment to a date that I had already paid through Venmo. I'm trying to call and email her to get this resolved- no answer. I called the Los Alamitos office multiple times and even asked to speak to the billing manager. The front desk told me the number that Jennifer wanted me to text the info. to was the landline and they can't get texts.... uhm okay.... so I asked for an alternative number so they can forward the information to the billing manager Sarah. I even screenshot my bank account activity, Venmo activity, and a typed Word document of services dates + payment dates. Finally I received a phone call from Sarah that it was entered incorrectly and the balance is $0. It's crazy how I had to take initiative and multiple attempts to get this resolved. If they didn't forward the info to Sarah, it may still go on and on! Please fire or move Jennifer to a different role as she is obviously incapable of this job. read more

Poor quality of service received. My son was referred by his insurance, and we regret coming. The instructors here suggest that they are teaching skills, but spend the time playing and commenting on how "cute" the children are every 5 minutes without actually assisting in their development. When we asked the instructor about this, she insisted that he was too young to learn and they were unsure why the insurance sent them due to their young age, yet they continued to insist the next appointment would be different (I guess it was a money grab) My son showed no growth during his time here, but incredible growth after deciding to no longer use this company. Also, please make sure you keep your insurance documents handy, as their billing team will change terms in payments without notifying you and then blame someone else (blaming insurance, due to their errors and requesting additional payment. Poor practice being run here. read more

My 4 1/2 year old son just started speech therapy here a month ago and he absolutely enjoys Coming here. The whole staff makes us feel Welcome and safe, but most importantly my son is eager to learn and that is huge! He will be on a 6 month program for his speech and we can see a progress already. read more

I have two beautiful kiddos on the autism spectrum. After our previous speech was no longer contracted with our insurance, we had to sadly leave and find a new location. Chatterbox Speech Pathology was available and we started sessions early 2024. The clinicians we started with left after a few sessions and my kids had had to readjust to their new clinicians. The change of clinicians was unexpected, but beyond our control. Hopefully, more time slots become available and additional Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) to accomodate the request of parents/caregivers. Parking is limited. Three spaces to be exact. Otherwise, you have to drive around and walk to the building. On our first session, we literally parked two lights down near the Starbucks. Then some older woman in her SUV almost hit us as we walked across the street because she failed to yield to pedestrians as her light turned green and our light signaled OK for us to walk. After that incident, I no longer park across the street or walk with my children for speech. If you arrive early enough or wait, you may be fortunate to park in their designated parking spaces. Chatterbox Speech Pathology has three locations: Los Alamitos, Santa Ana, and Long Beach. Kaiser insurance is accepted. Payments accepted include: cash, credit card, Venmo, and Zelle. We receive speech services at Los Alamitos. Tiffany at the front desk is awesome. She's friendly and communicates well. They focus on child-led play for their speech services. Depending on your child's needs this could be a hit or miss. However, each speech session is individualized on your child's needs and any concerns you may have should be addressed in their goals. Chatterbox recently opened Occupational Therapy (OT) services at their Long Beach location. Both my children are in the process of receiving services there and I will provide my experience, if we continue with their OT services. As a parent who has children with special needs, I know the struggles of taking a child to speech and occupational therapy. We want to make sure they receive services with clinicians that we feel comfortable and our children can meet their full potential. Within time, hopefully both my children will show improvement at Chatterbox Speech Pathology and find permanent clinicians for ongoing services. read more

We've had some decent moments with Chatterbox, but the recent negative encounters has put us off Chatterbox entirely. This is for the Los Alamitos Office. Just to preface, we've attended for about 3 years. The SLP that was assigned to our son the first year or so called off so many times we demanded that they switch us to someone who was consistent and actually wanted to do their job. We understand that life happens, but when they're calling off because of a "dental emergency" or a "stomachache" and it happens a little too predictably (especially after a long holiday weekend), you have to wonder about their work ethic and whether they should be around your child. (I record everything on my google calendar so it's easy to look back and see why certain appointments didn't happen). After taking some time off, the 2nd more permanent SLP they assigned us was wonderful. I have no complaints about her at all. However, our complaint lies with their billing practices which is seriously questionable if not fraudulent. There was one instance where the SLP was out sick because they lost their voice (we showed up early, signed in and no one at the front desk bothered to let us know that our SLP was out sick. We didn't even get a phone call to let us know ahead of time which shows an absolute lack of respect towards other people's time. So in their attempt to re-coop the cost of that appointment that never happened, they contacted the SLP and within the hour, she sends us "homework" which is supposed to somehow replace the session that day. They tell us, "Oh don't worry, we won't charge you the $10 copay today," but they charged our insurance $125 (instead of the full $150 for actual in-person session). Make it make sense: you're charging my insurance for me to do "homework" with my child. The last straw was when I had called them weeks in advance to let them know we will be cancelling two sessions because we were going to be out of town. Apparently cancelling doesn't have the same meaning for them as it does for the rest of us; when you cancel an appointment whether it's to see your doctor or your hair person, you don't get charged for the visit because it never happened. Charging for a service that never happened is fraud, right? When I checked my insurance billing for those dates, they had proceeded to charge my insurance the $125 and didn't even bother to send us "homework." By this time, I was understandably upset and called the office multiple times and left two messages hoping to get a call back at least acknowledging that they got my message. I don't. The next morning, I called the office multiple times (still no answer) and left another message. Still no call back. I email the office manager asking for an explanation but they don't even bother getting back to me until a couple days later. The lack of professionalism in the office staff is perplexing. I hope they know that patients with bad experiences will be much more vocal than patients with good experiences. read more

Covid-19 times consultation call. My pediatrician recently recommend for me to take my daughter in for a speech evaluation. The initial place was for me to go to miller's children hospital for it. However, due to covid 19 exposure, I opted to look for a private place myself. I called and spoke to Amy about the situation. Since I was not overly concerned about my 2 yo having delayed speech, she took a good amount of time to recommend me self help books if I wanted to save some money. Many of the books would help me encourage more language development with my daughter. She thoroughly explained the telehealth services and in person visits they offer. They take the highest safety precautions, designed appointment slots and ample cleaning time of toys and items between clients. I could tell just by the phone conversation that she truly loves and cares about her profession and clients. It's not all about the money like some other places. I connected with her the next day to inform her my husband had a hospital connect that would come to our house so that is what I ultimately opted for. I let her know if my daughter needs further follow ups, I would definitely come here. Thank you again for the time and wonderful books tips :) read more

My 8yo had been doing speech therapy through school for two years and was close to being at 100% with his goals. When COVID closed schools in March, his therapy stopped too and I noticed a regression even before summer. After all his years of hard work, I knew we couldn't wait for school to come back. Chatterbox has been a lifesaver. Within a week of making contact we had a consultation/assessment, a speech therapist assigned, and a schedule. We had the option of doing speech via zoom or in-person. We chose in-person and it was clear that chatterbox took extra precautions protecting their therapists and clients during the pandemic. Our speech therapist, Jasmine, got my son back on track quickly. She made therapy fun and was the perfect balance for my son's high energy. He gained his confidence back right away and after just six months we were done. My son has maintained his progress, his speech is perfect, and we're forever grateful to Jasmine and Chatterbox. My 4 year old son has been seeing Ms. Jasmine for the past month and we love her! My son cannot wait to go to "speech class". She is organized, patient, and professional. Jasmine is also great at keeping him engaged and excited to practice his sounds. I have already seen so much improvement. Concerned that our daughter would potentially regress without specialized speech therapy during the summer when schools are closed, we turned to Chatterbox. There were a couple of things that stood out to us about their services: 1. The schedule flexibility. Our sessions were in the early evening, which accommodated both my husband's and my work schedules, as well as our daughter's schedule. 2. The thoroughness of their testing and testing review. An assessment was done upfront and then after a year of services to determine areas of opportunity and progress. We really appreciated the time that Amy took to review the results with us and to ensure that we were aligned on our daughter's continued areas of focus. 3. Our daughter's progress. In part because the services are 1:1, and in part because of the great team at Chatterbox, our has thrilled. She essentially went from being more than a year behind in her language skills to right where she needed to be. We are forever grateful to the Chatterbox team for giving our daughter the support and helping her gain the skills she needs to be successful. My daughter "Z" started working with Amy shortly after her 3rd birthday. Amy is so accommodating to the family and skilled at what she does- she's great with toddlers! Z started improving immediately thanks to the 2 quick sessions weekly, and best of all she looked forward to the sessions! Amy helped hold my husband and I accountable to our part in the process, which we needed, because she could tell if we hadn't been practicing her suggestions with Z in-between sessions. Since Amy went on maternity leave we've had the pleasure of working with Sarah which has been an exceptional experience. Z adores her and looks forward to their sessions. Best of all, Sarah is so creative in how she approaches the work because my daughter is extremely stubborn and strong willed and Sarah has been successful at keeping her dialed in. After being on their waitlist for about a year we were called by the local university and offered a spot for Z to attend speech twice a week. We decided to turn it down because the program at the university isn't year round and has lots of schedule gaps, the time they offered her wasn't convenient for our family, it's not much different in price, and most of all we felt Chatterbox has been successful for us. You can't beat the convenience of someone coming to your home, at a time you choose! This is also why we originally opted not to go the school district or medical insurance route which would've essentially been free for us. We are moving away and plan to find a way to continue working with Chatterbox remotely rather than finding new therapists. They are top-notch! Both Amy & Sarah have turned our world around for the better by helping us with our daughter's speech and behavior needs. read more

I highly recommend Chatterbox. My daughter is on the spectrum, has speech delays and has been doing therapy with Sarah and Jasmine for the last year or so. Her progress has been tremendous and she really enjoys going to her sessions. Amy has been wonderful with accommodating my family's specific needs. Communication is prompt and friendly. Billing and insurance is a breeze. I would give them an A+ in their handling of the pandemic. The office is clean, organized and they have all the proper protocols in place. My daughter has been receiving speech therapy with chatterbox for a year and a half. When starting, she performed very poorly on standardized tests that measure her development. She's now 5, and tests right on track for her age. We have been thrilled with the progress she's made thanks to chatterbox. Our daughter has worked with both Amy and Sarah, and loves them both. At times it can be difficult to focus her attention, but Amy and Sarah are wonderful at keeping her engaged and making it fun. It has also been incredibly convenient having in house therapy sessions. We highly recommend chatterbox to anyone looking for speech therapy for their little ones. We feel fortunate to have found Amy and Sarah. read more

I love working with Chatterbox! My 4-year old son has improved a lot after a couple months of therapy! I've really enjoy working with Amy and Sarah. Amy has answered all of my questions regarding the assessment and billing. Sarah has been doing video sessions with my son, and she is absolutely amazing! I can't say enough how much I love hearing her work with my son and also talking with her directly. She's kind, professional, sweet, and engaging. Sarah is absolutely delightful to talk with! I'm so thankful for her and this office! My son loves Ms. Sarah as well!!! Despite the pandemic and social distancing, Sarah has made virtual speech therapy wonderful! Amy is AWESOME! I can't thank her enough for all of her knowledge, patience, and kindness while providing speech therapy for my 2.5 year old twins with special needs. Amy was very up front with realistic goals for each child after an evaluation and I clearly saw marked improvements in both children in her time with us (twice a week) and in the time after we concluded therapy. It isn't easy helping one child learn to communicate with special needs, but twins?! LOL! Needless to say I highly recommend Amy to anyone who needs a speech therapist. Since completing therapy my kids have continued to learn new signs and words/phrases and I truly believe Amy was pivotal in unlocking their abilities. I've worked for several months with two speech therapists from Chatterbox, Ms Amy and Ms Sarah, for my son. They both kept speech therapy fun, playful, and effective for my toddler with cleft-related speech issues. They also provided me with great information about how to work with my son throughout the week, and educated me about how certain sounds work and fun games to play to make certain sounds. I called Amy when my daughter, at that time aged 11, wasn't losing her baby talk and had long since been graduated out of in-school therapy through the district. Amy introduced us to Sarah who worked with my daughter for a little over a year. Where do we begin about Chatterbox and Sarah? Sarah is truly the warmest, most caring, professional, fun, accommodating, kind...I could go on and on. My daughter was completely comfortable with Sarah. Sessions felt more like a game to her than training exercises. Sarah helped my daughter become aware of bad habits, gave her in between work to do that involved creativity and allowed me to hear her progress while we reviewed the work together. And Sarah happily worked around my daughter's insanely busy schedule. My daughter is now ready to fly solo and transition out of speech therapy and, believe it or not, it's bitter sweet for me because Sarah was a delightful part of my daugther's routine and always there to cheer her on.
